MESSAGE FROM SISTER FRANCESCA In 1954, when Holy Family University was founded, the only means for students to stay connected with friends, family, and teachers was the telephone, U. S. Postal Service, the classroom, and face-to-face visits. For today's students, being connected has taken on a vastly different look. When Martin Cooper made the first cell phone in 1973; he probably had no idea that he was laying the foundation for a cultural transformation. Now, thanks to cell phones, e-mail, texting, twittering, Skype, Facebook, MySpace, Bebo and Webcams, one need never be without companionship.

While technology has provided a means for social networking, its use has also improved student learning. Powerpoint presentations enhance traditional lectures, and videoconferencing broadens the classroom horizon, allowing for students from other schools to participate in classroom discussions. The Blackboard course management system provides course materials to students, and enables their instructors to send announcements and e-mails, and offer on-line discussion groups. Our library has expanded its electronic resources, whereby reference books, newspapers, and journals are available online for

students'se.

Thanks to technology, information on all subjects is available with the click of a computer key. There are links that connect us to national and international news, politics, entertainment, medical information, religion, weather, and sports. The main Holy Family University web site always presents up-to-the- minute news and events so that students can know about and participate in what is happening on campus, Digital signage, located throughout the Northeast campus, and at Woodhaven and Newtown locations, offers additional news and events to reach all students. In the newly-developed myCampus portal, students can access e-mall and Blackboard, as well as Webadvlsor, the web interface to the student information system, to get grades and course information. The portal, available to all students, offers profile pages, and, when fully developed, will offer blogs, message boards, wikis, and virtual communities. An on-line community is also available to Holy Family University graduates via the alumni page on the main web site.

Technology touches the lives of people in all walks of life. Telemedlcine, whereby a computer measures blood sugar, heart rhythms and blood pressure and reports the results to a nurse, can eliminate expensive and difficult trips to Patients with pacemakers can have them checked via a computer. Robotlc surgery has been performed successfully in a number of hospitals. Here at Holy Family, our nursing program has been enhanced with the introduction of the "Medi Family" which allows student nurses to practice on life-like figures which respond electronically to their careglvers'uccesses or failures. doctors'ffices.

Technology in 2010 has given people the power to make the world more open and connected. Here at Holy Family we recognize the importance of information technology, and each year money Is invested in improving it. We will continue to do so, because our goal is to prepare our students for a world which is destined to rely more and more on this medium. So, dear graduates, as you leave the halls of Holy Family to pursue your future goals, we hope that you will take advantage of the many technological means

available, and always stay connected to this community, of which you were such an important part for the past four years. More importantly, my prayer for you is that, in the years ahead, you will always stay connected with God - no IT knowledge required!

...Red fish, blue fish. Students participated

in this

fun event hosted by the Student Government Association on Tuesday, September 15th. Many students stopped by to test their skills as they tried to throw a ping pong ball into a fish bowl. Those with enough skill (or luck) won their very own goldfish! SGA also sold neon green Fish Pong t-shirts at the event.

On September 17, students celebrated Constitution Day! Dr. Arthur Grugan gave a presentation about the free speech clause and then students went over to the cafeteria to enjoy free hot dogs and chips. The main event, however, was the Money Pit! Students had to answer trivia questions for a chance to grab some money!

During this weekend, students an their families joined together with faculty to pursue many fun-filled events. Some events included game show night, casino rught, and an early morning flea market. There was also a picnic as no family event is complete without oneI This early September event promoted student as well Pamily. as parent involvement here at

The goal of Alcohol Awareness Week is to reduce alcohol abuse by educating

the campus community while promoting responsible decision-making and healthy lifestyles. Students experienced Keith Karkut's Hypnotic Intoxication show which illustrated the power addiction plays in our lives. They also climbed their way to the top of the Wall Challenge and drove "Big Wheels" while wearing intoxication goggles in order to demonstrate the severity of driving under the influence. We finished the week by enjoying the cafe to celebrate the Phil!les clinching the 2009 National League Championship! 'Mocktails'n

During the weeks leading up to Halloween, Holy Family had several ways to "spook" out the spirit. In mid-October, a haunted hayride trip was what everyone was talking about. Students also set up a haunted house in the basement of Holy Family Hall and the Math Club sponsored a math murder mystery. On mischief night, SGA sponsored the annual Halloween Dance located in the Lower Lobby of the Campus Center. There was music, dancing, and great food. This year, by far, had the best turn out!

The newest Holy Family team kicked off its first season in 2009. The athletes on the Lacrosse team ranged from seniors to freshmen, but everyone came together to form a team worth cheering. Even though the Tigers faced some tough competition in 2009, the team has promise to be even better in the 2010 season.

The best thing about being on the team is having friends that share the same passion for lacrosse as E do. My teammates avd ihave become afamity that are constantly supporting one another on and off the field.

The Women's Soccer team took to the field in full force this year and had an incredible season! Captains Carly O'Errico, Ashley Antczak, and Meghan McCusker along with the other seniors Michelle Giambrone, Melissa Moratti, and Ashley Smith led the team to many victories including their seventh CACC championship. The team also qualified for the NCAA Championship Tournament for the second time and earned the prestigious National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. Many of the team's key players will be graduating this year, but the line up of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen have the talent and skill to carry the team to victory once again.

The 2009-2010 Women's Basketball team was made up of super athletes including seniors Alana Arthurs, Sheala Belte, Nya'Daley:, Jenna Johnson, and Christine McCollurn. Every member of the team pulled her weight, scoring points, getting rebounds, and making assists, ln her recognition. of her skill, junior Catherine Carr t was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week. Even though nearly half the. team. will be graduating this year, the underclassmen have proven this season that they are more than capable of winning games next year. „-

The 2008-2009 season went well for Holy Family's Golf team. Jonathan Radick and Chris Webster led the team to finish sixth place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships. Jonathan Radick even earned All-CACC honors by finishing in 10th. This team seems to get better and better every year and this season was no different.

p~+ For the Holy Family University Womens'olleyball team, their season was full of ups and downs. This year the team was lead by Jillian Keeve and Aimee Drabyn. The team also recruited three freshmen: Mackenzie Bickes, Cara Przybylowicz and Christina Mastroeni. The team's quote for the year was "Yesterday was the easiest day." They really stuck out that quote by pushing themselves that much harder everyday.

Tim Dugan, '10 The best part about playing on the soccer team was how close we all were. We aluays had a great time together, but when it came down to it, we put in our hard work and had a~other successful season.

The 2009-2010 season for the Holy Family Men's Soccer team went well as they won 11 out of 18 games and earned their fourth consecutive CACC Championship Tournament appearance. Team captains Tim Dugan and Tom O'eil (pictured below) led the team to many victories in their last season as Tigers. Newcomers such as Anthony Crouchelli, Dodji Freitas, and Jeffrey Wimsey brought their own skills to field, and along with the other talented junior and sophomore athletes, next season looks just as promising.

The Women's Cross Country team was refueled by freshmen athletes this year including Stephanie Unger, Chelsea Pierson, Jessica Morrison, Molly Finnegan, and Princess Chase. Among Holy Family's top finishers were Molly Finnegan, Jennifer Schrank, Jen Andrews, and Latifah Porter. Undoubtedly; seniors Christina Cantatore and Hanna Debela will both be missed in the following season.
