The weekly newsletter for the Holyport College family
Holyport College supporting the NHS We received an email from Judy Humphries, Blood Sciences Training Manager in Pathology at Wexham Park Hospital: “I just wanted to thank you again from the whole Biomedical Science Team in Pathology at Wexham Park Hospital for your very kind donation of numerous pairs of safety glasses for our Laboratory staff dealing with the Corona Virus samples. It was very kind of you and I have attached a photo to show you Lab. staff wearing them during the analysis of samples to protect them.” It’s a small thing but every little helps! If any students have suggestions of other things that the Holyport College community could do to help support our wonderful NHS workers, please do let us know!

Lower Sixth UCAS launch Mr Hardee and Mr Alford (looking very macho it must be said!) have held a virtual launch for the Lower Sixth UCAS process. Students and parents can watch the presentation on the Home Learning Portal on the College website.
Eton X is a series of online courses which Eton have developed for free. We are making them available to all Upper Sixth students who have now finished their A Level courses. If you'd like to sign up for a course, please complete this form by 09:00 on Monday 27th April. Amazing Shout out to Thiago, Luken, Stella, Flynn, Will G, Ben MacDonald, Zane K and Ed Sadler from Mr Hardee’s U6 Politics students. Even though they have finished the course they came along to a very interesting online Politics discussion. Today’s topic was: ‘Is the NHS Clap a political act?’ Absolutely superb discussion and points were made with Achievement Points given to all. Monday 9am for next instalment of U6 Political discussions - with the theme of ‘The Global Politics of Oil’. Year 10-13 Weekly Lockdown Quiz Night Monday night sees Year 10-13s and their families invited to Mr Hardee’s weekly online lockdown quiz nights. 7:45pm for an 8pm start and normally lasts an hour. Students need to logon to Google Meets via their Holyport email account, which they have all been invited to join. https://meet.google.com/ Each week Round 2 is a special round which requires some preparation – Monday’s Special Round is on the late Labour Politician Mo Mowlam. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo_Mowlam Hope to see many of you there—Mr Hardee @HPCSixth

FROM THE OUTDOORS
DIXIT 24th April 2020
Outdoor Learning Thanks to the Friends of Holyport College, we’ve had a big investment in outdoor learning this year with the regeneration of the pond area, the building of the outdoor classroom and the introduction of Outdoor Learning lessons for all Year 7 students. We had hoped that this would be reaching its climax in the Spring and Summer months however circumstances have conspired against this! That said, the beds and planters the Year 7 students have planted look absolutely glorious and the pond area is being enjoyed by the resident staff ready for the students when they’re able to return!
Wild Ducklings On the Way? With the College so quiet, wild ducks have made a nest at a top secret location within the College grounds! Mummy duck was inadvertently disturbed when the nest was first discovered however we’re delighted to report that she has subsequently returned to her brood! We’ll keep you posted on progress but we’re hoping for the patter of tiny (webbed) feet in the near future (and there’s nothing Mrs Dawson can do to stop these ones taking up residence on the pond!).
The Great Geography Bake Off Student entries close today 24th April! There’ve been lots of very impressive Geography inspired bakes this Easter. Winners will be announced next week! To see the entries see the following link or search for #GeographyBakeOff on Twitter.

GCSE/A Level Predictions
Students and parents/carers are reminded that College staff have been directed not to reply to any communication from a parent, carer or student which they believe to be an attempt to influence GCSE/A Level predicted grades. Students are respectfully asked to only submit work which teachers have requested from them anything which is submitted which has not been solicited will not be responded to or taken into account. If we need anything from you, we will ask for it. We completely appreciate how difficult this must be for both students and parents/carers however these are the circumstances in which we find ourselves and our main priority now must be the fairness and integrity of the process (in so far as this is possible given the current circumstances). This process is already underway and must be protected from any undue influence but rest assured we want the best for every one of our students just as much as the students themselves! Any student or parent/carer with concerns about this process should complete the Ofqual consultation here: Ofqual Consultation
