Dining In: timeless aesthetics

DINING DESIGN

The dining table brings the household and visiting guests together to enjoy good food and conversation. A table that is at the right height with wellspaced seating around it is key to offering comfortable dining. Dining chairs should not be too heavy and cumbersome, so they can be manoeuvred easily, and the ideal distance from the top of the chair to the tabletop is between 25 and 30 centimetres. Investing in a high quality table that will stand the test of time is especially worthwhile if, for example, you want it to be able to cope with a battering from hot dishes and heavy cookware.

Fritz Hansen’s Circular table series was designed by Arne Jacobsen and pairs perfectly with their Grand Prix chair, which was introduced during the Designers’ Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in 1957. Later that year, the chair was displayed at the Triennale in Milan, where it received the Grand Prix – the exhibition’s finest distinction. The chair has a base in either steel or wood and can be customised in a range of colours, wood types and upholstery. Also shown here is Fritz Hansen’s Planner shelving unit. Available from BoConcept Plus Store on the Mijas Road and in C. de Negocios Oasis in Marbella (www.plusstore.es).

Above Left Jonathan Adler’s Electrum dining table features a swirling constellation of polished brass and nickel rods, seating six diners in a range of couture tabletops. It is shown here with their Rider dining chair, which pays homage to an Empire-style dining chair, and a glamorous Globo cabinet in white lacquer, with blue acrylic globes and brass legs. Jonathan Adler can be ordered through Siesta Interior Design in C. Plaza in Nueva Andalucía (www.siestainteriordesign.com). Above Arflex’s Botolo chair was designed by Cini Boeri in 1973. Inside the legs are wheels for easy manoeuvrability, and the chair comes in four different fur colours. Available from Heidi Gubbins in Urb. Marbella Real on the Golden Mile (www.heidigubbins.com). Left This beautiful circular teak wood dining table features a natural finish and is resistant to humidity, making it highly durable. The black rattan chairs, with their decorative backs and iron legs, make a great complement to the minimalist table, while decorative plates on the wall finish off the boho look. All available from New Life Home in Avda. de Velázquez in Málaga (www.newlifehome.es). Opposite Page The Paralel collection, designed by Gabriel Teixidó, is a beautiful and timeless range from Point. This collection comprises 14 pieces made from teak wood and sometimes featuring synthetic rope. Point is available from Outdoor Concepts at the top of the Boulevard in San Pedro de Alcántara (www.outdoorconcepts.es).

Contemporary design, durability and elegance come together in Ferm Living’s Mingle series. This table top is crafted from natural wood veneer, and is superbly attractive for a sculptural dinner table in combination with either the metal or the matching wooden table legs – which are sold separately. Shown here with Ferm Living’s Herman dining chair and Verso jug and Dou lampshade. Ferm Living is available through Design Strand in Playas del Duque in Puerto Banús (www.designstrand.com) and through Nomad Studio One in Edif. Don Amaro II in Sabinillas (www. nomadstudioone.com).

Gallotti & Radice is renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship and timeless style. The Jackie armchair has a wooden frame, upholstered in either leather or fabric in a range of colours, and padded with a non-deformable polyurethane foam. It is shown here with their Platium table and Horizontal Bubbles suspension lamp, with a dimmable LED light hovering above like a sculptural work of art. Also featured here is their Kumi sideboard and Riki glass trolley. Gallotti & Radice is available through Heidi Gubbins in Urb. Marbella Real on the Golden Mile (www. heidigubbins.com).

A DINING TABLE THAT IS ALSO A BED!

The Tablebed is a new and innovative space-saving concept combining a dining table with a double bed. The table has a waterproof seal, so if liquid is spilt on it the bed inside is completely protected. The bed has a comfortable mattress which the brand claims is much better than a standard sofa bed, and all bed linen can be stored inside the table – meaning no extra storage is necessary. Available from Design Strand in Playas del Duque in Puerto Banús (www.designstrand.com).
