Living Rooms: welcoming ambience
LOUNGING CHIC
Due to the pandemic, we have been spending a greater amount of time than usual in our living rooms of late, making us realise even more how important this room is in the home. It is a place to rest and read a book, to switch off and immerse ourselves in a good film, and to relax and chat with other household members and friends. Whether your style is sophisticated-chic, boho or outrageously bold, a good sofa is always a great investment and sets the look of the room. Keep the layout uncomplicated with a clear walkway space around the furniture for an organised and restful look. Don’t just settle for a coffee table to rest your cups, books, phones, etc. Consider smaller tables beside your chairs’ armrests for handy extra surface area, and they can sometimes also offer useful storage to help keep the room less cluttered. A rug underfoot adds cosiness and a welcoming feel and can really make a statement – and don’t forget your windows! There are a number of window solutions to finish-off the overall look of the room such as dramatic ceiling-hung curtains and louvre blinds that allow you to control the filter of sunlight entering into the room, and thus set the mood. Lighting is another important way to set the ambience, so small lamps dotted around the room for intimate pockets of soft illumination will give the living room a warm and welcoming feel.
The soft curves and low seating of the Pacha lounge chair provide the utmost comfort – in an attractive contemporary style. The chair was designed by the iconic Pierre Paulin, who wanted to offer the feeling of sitting on a cloud. His dedication to ergonomic precision and craftmanship is never so evident than with Pacha. A swivel version is also available, as well as further seating versions in the collection, with a wide variety of customisable upholstery options. Gubi can be ordered through Nomad Studio One in Edif. Don Amaro II in Sabinillas (www.nomadstudioone.com).

Simplicity, clean lines and a monochrome colour palette create a peaceful and timeless aesthetic. The black contrasting against the white makes the room particularly relaxing as the eye does not have to take in a melange of different colours. This living room has been created by Sandon, who specialise in bespoke furniture made to the highest quality (www.sandon.es).

Eduardo Chillida’s artwork has been hailed as among the most significant of the late 20th century. To pay homage to the artist, the Chillida collection was created by Nanimarquina based on a chronological selection of his work. Shown here is the Chillada Collage 1966 version. The artist’s creative nuances have been directly translated to their rugs, all handmade using various techniques and fibres, such as wool, silk and hand-spun mohair, to create different textures and showcase the essence of his work (www.nanimarquina.com).
