Tableware: stylish expression

THE ART OF TABLESCAPING

“Tablescaping” has become a new buzzword in the world of interior design. In layman’s terms, this means the artistic form of arranging tableware and decorative items on a table. Whether you want to set a formal mood or one that is more casual, your tableware is an expression of your style and plays an important role in how you present your culinary delights. Plain white plates and bowls are always elegant but lately darker colours have been appearing more than ever. This enhances the colours of the food, making it look more enticing and, of course, more photographable for social media likes. Bold patterns add creativity to the final dish’s presentation, and can be combined with plains if you want to break up the busyness of the table’s overall set-up. For a more understated look, crockery made from stone or ceramic with uneven edges and earthy colours is a great way to present food in a timelessly casual way. Here are some ideas to inspire you…

British-Israeli chef Yotam Ottolenghi created this vibrant tableware collection for Serax. “We have tried to tell the Ottolenghi story in objects,” he explains. “It is a story of the tension between the earthy and the sophisticated, between passion and refinement, tradition and novelty. Ostensible opposites, existing together in dynamic harmony.” The collection is in stock available from Alison Bethell-Collins Interior Design in Avenida del Mediterráneo, San Pedro de Alcántara (www.alisonbethellcollins.com).

Sybartum’s white ceramic Claudia bowls are simple and contemporary in design and are available in three different sizes. Sybartum is situated on the Mijas Road, or you can buy the collection online at www.sybartum.com.

The Arabesque tableware collection from Swedish company Sthål is made from durable white stoneware clay and is safe to be placed in a dishwasher, oven or microwave. Available from Avoi in La Mairena or buy online at www.avoi.eu.

The Taranto stoneware collection is fired at a high temperature, making it very strong and giving each piece a unique character, both in colour and finish. Available from Avoi in La Mairena or buy online at www.avoi.eu.

The new Twist collection from Bernardaud features a delicate design that offers a subtle geometric pattern on radiant pure white porcelain (www.bernardaud.com).

GORGEOUS GLASSWARE

The Eva Solo Bourgogne mouth-blown wine glass has a thin, elegant rim that is slanted. It is shaped to enable drinking from all sides, and is dishwasher-safe on a glass setting. Eva Solo is available from Your Home Styling (www.yourhomestyling.com) and Escandi Design (www.escandidesign.com). Both showrooms are situated on the Mijas Road.

Zara Home’s Raised Honeycomb glass set comprises a wine glass and tumbler in an attractive olive green (www.zarahome.com).

Hay’s glass borosilicate jug is lightweight but highly durable, and is thermally more shock-resistant than standard glass. It is shown here with Hay’s Tint glass collection, also made in coloured borosilicate glass in a wide choice of colours (www.hay.dk).
