Types of Residential Roofs

It doesn't matter if you are building a home from scratch or you are just remodeling, the types of residential roofing materials, varies widely. There are a lot of different choices to choose from, but some of the most popular options include asphalt, wood, slate, and clay tiles. While style is an obvious factor, so are other things like how long the roof will last for, price, weight and installation requirements. Here are a few things you need to be aware of when it comes to roofing materials for houses.

Asphalt Shingles This is a very commonly used material for residential homes and probably one of the biggest reasons behind that is the cost. Out of all the options you will be seeing her, this is the cheapest of all of them and its very easy to install which means labor costs shouldn't be as high. This is made from a sort of fiberglass material which is then impregnated with asphalt - which is what gives it that sort of sand like look. Costs for this item will be about $50 per square foot. Wood Roofing For hundreds of years, wood was always the go-to material when it came to roofing materials, and while its still a good option these days, its also very expensive and its a fire hazard. If you absolutely want this, make sure its fire resistant by looking for fire resistance coating, Wood also has a pretty good lifespan at about 20-25 years, but it costs twice as much as something like asphalt, definitely something to consider.
