Embodying both the colorway and design theme, the foyer’s handmade wallcovering shines in a silver and deep blue brush stroke finish. White oak planks run cohesively through this space. The owner’s existing art, newly reframed, hangs on the focal wall. “You don’t have to leave the space you love — just recreate it and make it better,” says Lisa Guild, owner and lead designer of LMG Design Consulting. To bring this Naples waterfront condo fashion-forward, the highly experienced team knew all the walls had to go! Brightening the colorway and using clever construction techniques led them to realize this ocean-inspired design. Guild, along with LMG Design Consulting interior designer Amanda Bugar, start with what they call the “genesis fabric.” Found in the pillows on the curved sectional, this fabric features sea-spray colors inspiring the spectrum of blues that bounce throughout the bright space. Corkscrews, arcs, and round shapes — representing the circuitous chambered nautilus shell — inspire the meaningfully chosen furnishings for a cohesive interior. u
Above: A crisp cream and white backdrop allows the eye to bounce and rest comfortably on the varying shades of ocean-inspired blues. The curved console table by Vanguard Furniture nestles perfectly behind the custom curved sectional, both from International Design Source. Continuing the shell theme, two hourglass matte white end tables serve the sectional. Like an ocean-worn shell, these textured bases anchor the slick and cool top. Left: Amid the seashell-inspired furnishings, beams in the coffered ceiling — painted in a glossy Super White by Benjamin Moore — lead the eye through wide pane windows toward the water view. Swivel chairs with ascending curved backs from International Design Source showcase one blue from the spectrum found in the home’s design palette. The light fixture swirls like a corkscrew and complements the organic glass wall art pieces by Tim Miller.

Above: Clever construction solutions hide immovable structures, and the design team uses light and airy elements to open this space. Acrylic-leg bar stools from Interlude sit at the custom island by M.D.B General Contractors showcasing a 27-step driftwood and blue striation finish. A quartz countertop in Swanbridge complements the vein-cut marble backsplash that has the “feel of the ocean with layers of sand and wavy waters,� says Bugar. This kitchen also showcases high-end appliances by Sub-Zero and GE Monogram from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery.

Sconces from International Design Source radiate white light off the shower’s iridescent vintage mirror-like wall tiles from Design Works. M.D.B General Contractors reimagines the popular Shaker-style cabinet by adding contemporary features and polished nickel pulls.

Below: Upholstering the wall and headboard with an iridescent pewter leatherette absorbs external sounds, creating a peaceful master bedroom. Soft gray, sea-spray blues, and azure velvet fabrics adorn the bed. The plush, hand-knotted silk rug from International Design Source, “mimics the shoreline coming in with deep blues, silvers, and grays,” says the design team. Rock crystal pendants hang above the custom oversized chests finished in platinum and midnight blue.

Heading up the build team, Michael Bevacqua, president of M.D.B. General Contractors, applies a “no compromise” approach to the construction and design. Removing all non-structural walls updates the layout; but adding height with fixed concrete floors and ceilings requires the expertise of this well-rounded team. Bevacqua conceals the mechanicals in the foyer ceiling, maximizing volume for the main living spaces. “All the lines in the floor and coffered ceiling run toward the new wider impact glass windows, and really expand the feeling of the space,” a compliment from Camden Ashmore, vice president of Ashmore Design. Guild recalls her initial reaction to the completely enclosed kitchen was, “We have to blow this all out — open it up and make it feel part of the larger space!” By dropping the walls, replacing the cabinets, and weaving in details like wave-patterned glass, the kitchen now connects with the larger space. Bevacqua describes how the structural components are masterfully integrated, “We concealed a concrete support beam and did not use up floor space behind the pantry, creating additional storage.” u

Right: The spectrum of blues and luminescence that radiate throughout the space culminate in the crinkled wallpaper from International Design Source. Organic sea-life shapes — in a gray-blue fabric on the bedding — playfully bounce the color theme. Crushed-glass acrylic base lamps by John-Richard echo the light and airy feel of the flowing ombré cream to blue draperies.

Below: Previously a dark and dated wet bar, new custom doors — upholstered in a silver leatherette with nailheads applied to mimic waves — conceal the new design and double as a wall feature. Bright cabinets echo the kitchen with frosted glass and are backlit with ultra white light. The full-height backsplash is a crushed glass mosaic from Design Works with white grout that sets against the individual teardrop pebbles, giving the feeling of being suspended in water.

“As you move through the space, differing amounts of the blue color spectrum reveal itself,� Guild shares, noting how this design philosophy interconnects even the private spaces. No optical illusions in the master bedroom after the team adds 10 inches of floor space by moving a wall to expand it for a grander feel. This dramatic transformation owes itself to the talented team who embraces the oceanic inspiration that bounces and swirls between spaces. And best of all, the homeowners were able to stay in a location they loved. n

Below: Utilizing design sketches along the way, the team successfully creates this wraparound built-in bookcase with a shiplap backdrop that mirrors the ceiling. The television hangs on an angling arm to face the blue-gray recliner that stands out against the neutral rug, both from International Design Source. The coffee table, with natural stone and a hammered metal base, exudes an organic quality and was chosen to create synergy between the spaces.
