Charm struck on the third time for these would-be clients of remarkable interior designer, Carrie Brigham of Carrie Brigham Design. “They had already been referred to me by the builder, and the architect, and in that same day, the client got another referral — there was no question we had to work together,” delights Brigham. This home is setting trends with its high-contrast, transitional, Old Florida style, inside and out. Brigham layers custom features over the neutral palette to elevate the look to a “casually elegant sensibility,” she relishes. u Great Room: The black and white rug speaks to the graphic artwork, while the rich wood of the tables anchor the space and foil against the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring’s European Elegance white oak flooring from Naples Flooring Company. Slim-profile accent pieces in glossy white and dusty gold adorn the sleek built-ins in Gauntlet Grey by Sherwin-Williams. Carrie Brigham Design provides fresh florals from a florist in downtown Naples that rival the tropical view out this focal glass wall. Vignette: “We knew we wanted a bold piece that would make a statement and liked the idea of working with a local artist,” remembers Brigham. She fell in love with the graphic atypical stylings of this custom art by Daniel Geschardt. This textural, black and white piece ignites the high-contrast experience in this home. An alabaster lamp and root slice sculpture engage both fluid and geometric forms, while the wood-capped arm chairs offer a casual touch.

57

“The creativity comes out in this home — a testament to the entire team,” shares Matt Knauf of Knauf-Koenig Group. “We build beautiful houses, but it is this home’s intricate details that make it one of a kind.” Brigham’s exquisite design details set the stunning kitchen apart. “It’s all about the island!” exclaims Brigham, sharing her desire to create something never seen before. “I literally sketched this end-cap frame on a scrap of paper and Ruffino Cabinetry brought it to life.” Brigham gives the kitchen island a new look with black wooden frames that support the spectacular taupe countertop, and she stretches thin, horizontal, black metal rods across. Behind it sits a bright white tongue-and-groove panel — showing off high-contrast in one powerful and dramatic statement. u Dining Room: The widespread window flows seamlessly with Knauf-Koenig Group’s banquet design. Brigham adorns the bench with durable, ready-made pillows that show off geometric and fluid patterns in black, white, and taupe. Armless chairs in a crisp gray encircle the beautiful, smooth-top table with a rattan edge and brass stretcher that has a West Indies flavor, which is echoed in the airy tendrils of the chandelier sourced through Carrie Brigham Design. Kitchen: Brigham tackles the scale of this massive island with an equally substantial galley sink. The island’s Perla Venata countertop complements the perimeter — a taupe stone-top that runs into the butler’s pantry. A stunning zinc hood, which will patina graciously over time, nestles between the bright white Ruffino Cabinetry. “In the spirit of high-contrast with our white kitchen, it was only natural to go with these oversized, black pendants,” shares Brigham.

58

homeanddesign.net

60

homeanddesign.net

Brigham artfully harmonizes serenity and high contrast with a gentler color palette in this master bedroom. The wool and silk rug inspires the entire atmosphere of the room. “With no specific pattern, but with all our shades of taupe and gray, this rug creates a restful background,” she elaborates. Soft finishes — such as the velvet appliqué bedding — elevate the soothing retreat.

homeanddesign.net

61

62

homeanddesign.net

“Our goal for this home was to stay true to a neutral palette,” Brigham reveals. Using shades of beige, gunmetal, white, and taupe with varying rich and honied wood tones, Brigham interjects soft camel tones as an accent. “The focal point of this great room is the view out to the pool. We want the inside to flow outside,” says John Cooney of Stofft Cooney Architects. It is this unique on-the-water, ranch-style design amid massive two-story houses that connects this home to the soul of Old Florida architecture. Although, at nearly 4,700 square feet and full of modern amenities, it holds its own against its taller neighbors. u

Master Bathroom: “By flanking large windows on either side of the tub with transoms above, we are able to get wonderful privacy and natural light,” shares Cooney. Plantation shutters from Shutter Concepts ensure privacy, and the freeform ash and white artwork from Sweet Art Gallery hang in prominence above Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery’s asymmetrical Stargazer tub. A light fixture becomes an art piece inspired by Brigham, who hangs this vision over the tub. With the ability to restyle the tubular glass forms, it will never lose its stunning, visual impact.

homeanddesign.net

63

Guest bathroom: “As a designer, I take cues from my favorite furniture pieces and re-imagine them into custom cabinetry.” Brigham explains that the Ruffino Cabinetry’s styling is a bright white finish with routed vertical lines and simple black edge pulls. Adorning the custom cabinets is a taupe countertop to soften the high-contrast elements. A simple black framed mirror hangs centered between the black, glass, and chrome sconces from Wilson Lighting.

64

Powder Room: The transitional, oversized basket-weave pattern tile in white, gray, and taupe spans the powder room. This furniture-style vanity from Ruffino Cabinetry pairs best with the lighter Dolomite marble countertop and grounds the remarkable petrified wood framed mirror that exhibits all the tones seen in the bathroom, from taupe and gray to polished chrome. Glass globe sconces from Carrie Brigham Design flank this exceptional mirror. Guest Bedroom, Below: A convergence of well-thought-out design and style comes together in this guest room. High-contrast graphic patterns set against an Old World caned bed blends tropical inspiration with edgy sophistication for a unique and clever feel. Organic shapes on the creamy white lamp juxtapose the rectilinear, warm taupe shade that sits atop a crisp white nightstand with transitional black pulls — all chosen by Carrie Brigham Design. Laundry Room: Brigham goes bold yet stays true to the home’s neutral color palette. “We didn’t want to do the typical white laundry room,” Brigham asserts, bringing in a pop of high contrast with the black, white, and copper artwork from Sweet Art Gallery. A pure white quartz countertop throughout the space offers subtle contrast against the cabinets by Ruffino Cabinetry that have a brilliant flat moulding profile, making even this functional space brim with designer touches.

“These special clients were very in touch with the universe that day they received three referrals,” Brigham reminisces. Family Room: Prodigious black and white hues with surges of camel and gold overlook this restful family space. A duo of stunning gallery-wrapped pieces from Sweet Art Gallery merge the design concept and colorway. To soften the rectilinear lines of the architecture, Brigham incorporates “sinuous lines” in the furniture and grounds the space with a plush rug. Atop this transitional credenza with an interlocking moulding design sits artful accessories and more fresh greenery that blurs the line between indoors and out. Rear Exterior: “With a spectacular waterfront view providing an idyllic backdrop, it was about taking the confluence of the owner’s preferences, the home’s architectural presence, and the relationship to its surroundings to create an attractive and harmonious setting for this home,” shares landscape designer Kevin Schafer. The natural shellstone flooring creates a brilliant backdrop to the landscape, pool, and home. The pool’s neutral, iridescent, gray glass tiles carry the interior colorway to the outdoors.

Soothing colors flow through the home, spilling into another custom-Brigham feature in the master bedroom. “I knew the space needed to have some traditional elements but incorporated in a modern way,” Brigham describes in reference to the trim she designed that creates subtle intrigue with a shadow effect on the headboard wall. Local artwork makes bold statements, striking the bathroom light fixtures, graphic pillow prints, and eye-catching vanities in a way that pushes a transitional edginess in the design. “She’s [Brigham] very respectful of the architecture. The interior details are exactly in line with our architectural theme,” explains Cooney, after describing the white stucco exterior and the punchy black-frame windows. “These special clients were very in touch with the universe that day they received three referrals,” Brigham reminisces. With three brilliant stars in alignment, Carrie Brigham Design, Stofft Cooney Architects, and Knauf-Koenig Group set the trend of what sensational architecture, building, and design look like in the Moorings. n

Front Exterior: Carrie Brigham Design, Stofft Cooney Architects, and Knauf-Koenig Group set a high-contrast, tropical-transitional trend in the Moorings. Foreshadowing the palette of the interior, the home’s façade features black 400 series windows from Andersen Window & Doors — provided by Florida Wood Window & Door — against the creamy white stucco. Hints of Old Florida style are found in the brass backplate lanterns found on the front exterior of the home, with the arrangement of sylvester and foxtail palms in front that “create a casual symmetry that frames and softens the home,” shares Schafer. Lanai: Rivaling the exterior and interior design, this lanai showcases a linear fireplace clad in a multi-tonal, textural stone. It is set between hidden motorized screens to create a grand focal point. This room is a conversation space with white sculpturally organic pieces that contrast modern, clean line furniture in neutral colors, with remarkable architectural details that ground this home in its tropical inspiration. Stofft Cooney Architects designs fixed shutters for a decorative element, while Castle Services of SWFL roll down screens offer function and protection from Florida’s elements for this covered outdoor space.

MAKE THE MOST OF HOME

2021

T

“The 2021 Signature Home™ is situated in the prominent community of Quail West Golf & Country Club and stretches the limits of design,” says Jennifer Evans, president and publisher of Home & Design Magazine. A convergence of talent and inspiration, the home bestows a sensory experience and imparts a lasting impression on all who tour it. Seagate Development Group and their in-house design firm, Theory Design, as well as R.G. Designs and Outside Productions International, partnered with Home & Design Magazine and International Design Source to showcase the impressive Ray Booth® collection for Hickory Chair that “is intended to inspire new thoughts on design that push our ever-evolving desire for creativity and inventiveness,” as stated in the Hickory Chair catalog. The front exterior of the home — also known as Seagate’s Oak Hill model — alludes to the excitement that awaits inside. Akin to a couture reception hall, the home’s parlor takes your breath away. Beyond the modern exterior and stylish iron and glass doors, unexpected pieces — like the striking black and white triptych of the Palace of Versailles — overlook the greeting space. “We want to create intimate spaces for entertaining and memory points throughout. It’s like walking into a high-end hotel, and then you walk past the bar, wine room, dining, and into the open kitchen and great room for one wow-experience after another!” says James Nulf, partner at Seagate Development Group. u

Front Exterior: Situated in the prominent community of Quail West Golf & Country Club, this home stretches the limits of design. The roof’s flat tiles are a welcome contrast against the creamy, smooth cladding of the exterior. Elongated brackets offer subtle detail without disrupting the home’s modern flair. Seagate Development Group and Outside Productions International analyze each key window and decide what the vista will be to create a cohesive design between the interior and exterior. Taking a simpler, more temperate approach to the landscape, Patrick Trefz, owner and landscape architect at Outside Productions International, opts for repetition of plants that support the architectural design — selecting a silver agave because of its modern form. Front Entry: The stunning, custom front door “is an introduction to the elements of the interior design inside,” shares Theory Design’s Vice President of Design, Ruta Menaghlazi. The vaulted foyer with a dramatically-lit ceiling detail immediately sparks interest. Soft gray draperies with a differing pattern at the bottom cascade from the reverse soffit to bring in a comfortable social element to this extravagant entry. homeanddesign.net

Ruta Menaghlazi, interior designer and vice president of Theory Design, envisions a soft-modern expression with organic forms, Asian influences, and an industrial edginess that push the envelope of both the design and concept of the 2021 Signature Home™. When Menaghlazi and the Theory Design team were introduced to the clean lines, subtle curves, and cutting-edge furniture designs from the Ray Booth® collection for Hickory Chair, the pieces began falling into place. “We realized in that moment that this collection would be in line with our design concept,” adds Theory Design’s Adriene Ged, interior designer on the project. “What a thrill it is to see how designers have used our Hickory Chair products in their design work!” exclaims Ray Booth, renowned interior designer and Hickory Chair design partner. “They worked with our showroom team to select pieces, not only from my collection, but also from Hickory Chair’s other design partners David Phoenix’s and Susan Hable’s lines, combining them beautifully,” he continues. Emilio Sadez — president of International Design Source who operates Hickory Chair in Naples and Sarasota — is proud to work with both the Theory Design team and national design professionals like Booth through his to-the-trade showrooms. “We are honored to partner with the team at Hickory Chair and provide designers in Southwest Florida with their product,” says Sadez, who was instrumental in coordinating the collaboration and arrangement of Booth’s visit to the 2021 Signature Home™ upon its completion. u

DESIGNER RAY BOOTH

“What a thrill it is to see how designers have used our Hickory Chair products in their design work!” exclaims Ray Booth, renowned interior designer and Hickory Chair design partner. Parlor: Symmetry drives the design and guides the eye straight through the parlor’s wide glass windows by Andersen Windows & Doors where the outdoor living’s raised spa becomes a delightful focal point. The chandelier’s sleek, rectilinear form shines above and illuminates the Palace of Versailles triptych from International Design Source. Intent on creating a one-of-a-kind reception, Ged selects the tête-à-tête chaise in a tight woven fabric by Ray Booth® for Hickory Chair, accompanying them with the triad table, which can be raised or lowered for use as either a cocktail or side table.

“We have full flexibility to push the envelope on design,” Nulf shares when describing the forward-thinking nature of his firm. This sentiment is visible from the landscape to the architecture, and throughout the thoughtful interior. Clean lines, large pane windows, and smooth cladding in soothing, modern colors create this “modern transitional, yet coastal architecture,” shares Rich Guzman, residential designer, and owner of R.G. Designs. Upon approach, you feel a sense of motion from the sweeping mass of native plants that follow a serpentine arc. Playing with textures and hues of green and dusty silver, Patrick Trefz, landscape architect and owner of Outside Productions International, designs a modern landscape, and a striking clean-line pool and spa. u

Bar: “We designed the hanging shelves to intentionally line up with the exterior window mullions,” shares Ged. Adjacent, a threesided glass atrium perfectly frames a silver agave to complete the modern visual. Clad in the exotic Toblerone quartzite, the substantial bar carries the neutral, earthy colorway seen throughout the home, and the cabinetry in a pebble finish complements the stone’s fluid veining. Dining Room: This exhilarating dining room shows off a pair of substantial artichoke-esque pendants from Lighting First. An iconic lamp shape, its black metal and brass finish lends a mid-century pulse of excitement with an industrial twist. Ray Booth® for Hickory Chair’s Block dining table in truffle from International Design Source has an unexpected, honed marble base, while the low-profile dining chairs with a Greek-key nailhead design preserve the view to the lush outdoors. Visible from both the dining room and the parlor, the spectacular wine room is a conversation piece. Dramatic spotlights illuminate the black satin racks and highlight the stone floor in Urban Bluestone.

Previous Spread/Kitchen: “We drew inspiration from one of Ray Booth’s designs for the oversized island,” says Menaghlazi when elaborating on the industrial table-like island that seats twelve. She and Ged break up the boxy look of a typical double-island kitchen with this modern, black metal frame and wood base stationary design. Overhead, the streamlined light fixture strikes a modern note and is finished in the same matte black seen on the Kohler tap from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Ged shares that the organic sea-fan artwork seen on the kitchen’s back wall is a Theory Design signature.

With a penchant for drama, Menaghlazi and Ged design the ceiling with a special reverse soffit that emanates a soft glow from hidden lighting, giving the ceiling a floating effect — a memorable modern marvel. Large windows fill the home with natural light and offer a lush, expansive view of the community’s golf course. The white walls throughout this main living space are a delightful backdrop for the rich colors brought in by the furnishings, which blend harmoniously with the La Famiglia Collection’s washed-oak Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in Giginella installed in a diagonal pattern by Naples Flooring Company. Industrial influence flows through the home, and is shown in the strong, black window frames, the glass and iron bar shelves, and the custom, built-in dining table. u

Grand Room: Ged shares that the grand room was designed around a focal point — the entertainment wall. “Some people go up and touch it, believing it is three-dimensional, but it is just the stunning coffer design,” delights Ged. The Weir Console and Plaited Chest by Ray Booth® for Hickory Chair from International Design Source grounds the space, while the table lamps by Ray Booth® from Arteriors harmonize the open-concept floor plan. Rich, saturated colors and warm wood tones create a cozy ambiance, while the light, neutral fabric on the Cradle Sofa with browned steel and bronze accents ties in the invigorating design philosophy, providing interest to this space from all angles.

87

Master Bedroom: The low-profile bed by Ray Booth® for Hickory Chair from International Design Source is finished in a rich ebony that complements the framed floor-to-ceiling windows. “Instead of using table lamps, we used wall-mounted lights over the nightstands for flexibility and livability,” says Menaghlazi. The brass sconces from Booth’s Arteriors collection hang over the Stasis Santos Rosewood tables from International Design Source. Earth tones envelop the space, while a large silk rug brings in cool contrast by exhibiting a rich softness that is both comforting and exhilarating. The Asian countryside scene on the triptych is a delight against the crisp wall color, which Theory Design balances with warm pops of burnt orange and pumpkin on the bedding and toss pillow fabrics.

Mid-century wonder and playful drama meld with rich colors and Asian accents amid a cool-gray and white canvas in this master suite. “I have a tendency to scatter some Asian decor in every home,” says Menaghlazi, who even delightfully surprises the esteemed Booth with her choice of a black finish on the furniture. “When he came to visit the home, he had never seen his Shelter Bed or Stasis Santos nightstands in a black finish, and he was pleasantly surprised. Our whole premise for this house was to push the envelope, and to get a response like that,” shares Ged. The guest spaces are located in a separate wing from the master suite, and they all feature king-size beds — each uniquely designed, yet overflowing with the same swanky-modern mood that is carried through the rest of the home. u

88

Master Bathroom: Tranquil yet dramatic, this glitzy, monochromatic master bathroom demands attention. A cool-gray honed natural stone runs the length of the floor, interrupted only by a small hexagon mosaic under the heated Kohler tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Disappearing above the floating ceiling, gray draperies flank the tub for a symmetrical focal point. A soft glow emanates from the reverse soffit, and a show-stopping globe pendant hangs in the center of the ceiling. Ged states the 10-inchthick countertop, in a contrasting creamy white, was chosen to create an unforgettable look. Complete with both a steam shower and a spa shower — both offering views to a private Zen garden — this master bath is anything but ordinary.

homeanddesign.net

89

Study: In planning the study’s design, Ged asks, “Should we paint all the walls black?” This remarkable choice — Black Magic by Sherwin-Williams — elevated a formal space to a haute conversation piece. Floor-to-ceiling draperies soften the design’s edginess and frame the view to the pool and golf course beyond. The rectilinear brass Kuzco chandelier from Lighting First hangs above the stunning Barstock desk by Ray Booth® for Hickory Chair from International Design Source.

Drama, intrigue, and a collaborative spirit take the lead on this chic, modern-transitional model home that pushes the limits of thoughtful design for an unparalleled wow factor. Delighted, Nulf recalls Booth’s reaction to the final design when he visited the project for the photoshoot. “We anticipated Ray Booth wanting to move things around for the photoshoot, but he was really complimentary of the completed project and didn’t move a thing — truly our greatest accomplishment!” Indeed, Booth confirms, “It was a joy to walk into the beautiful home that they created this year for the Home & Design 2021 Signature Home™.” n

Guest Bedroom: Incorporating the linear black lines of the home’s architecture into the furniture, Ged selects this black metal four-poster bed. Classy black, white, and gray adorn the bed with a pop of earthy copper in the velvety throw blanket. Spunky black and white art fits seamlessly into this swanky guest room. The oversized swing-arm wall sconce leaves space for wonderful amber glass accessories on the nightstand.

homeanddesign.net

Rear Exterior: Drawing inspiration from classic 1920s-style rectilinear pools, Trefz designs a pool and spa that coordinates with this modern home’s architecture. “The spa is a focal feature that stands out like a diamond on a solitaire ring,” Trefz boasts. Symmetry in the hardscape matches the symmetry of the architecture. “It’s the relationship of the pool and planting design to the architecture that gives this backyard a cohesive feel,” he continues. Trying not to overthink the lighting, Trefz highlights a few key areas in the yard to maintain a simple and graceful ambiance. Outdoor Living: The cool aqua of the pool peeks through the double-sided fireplace, while the flames of the fire pit flicker nearby. Together this show of fire and water raises the dramatic atmosphere of the covered lanai, which can be enclosed by automated screens from Castle Services of SWFL with the touch of a button. With plush white cushions, the comfortable wicker lounge chairs face both the television and the green. An oversized, low-profile coffee table introduces the home’s signature black palette into the outdoor living space. Earth tones on the throw pillows complement the colors in the livable outdoor rug by Surya from International Design Source.

Archetypal Old Florida style on a dream double lot connects family and friends

LAKESIDE CONNECTIONS 104

homeanddesign.net

T

Transcending creativity to develop a home where architecture connects family, Matt Kragh of MHK Architecture turns a former sports player’s beachy-casual, entertainment vision into a winsome reality. “The client purchased multiple properties over time to get almost an acre of land,” shares builder Mike Assaad, owner of Waterside Builders. “The purchase gave MHK Architecture ample room to design whatever the homeowner wanted facing whichever direction he liked.” Assaad crafts this exemplary Old Florida design that Kragh describes as having the MHK Twist. Great consideration for how the family would interact with each other spurs this house-within-a-house concept. Two impressive wings flank the home’s single-story entry. Each sibling wing comfortably houses a master bedroom, living space, and children’s bedrooms. With amazing main-floor living for these homeowners, Kragh answers the question of how to strengthen the bond between family while maintaining privacy. “We’re very proud of this element,” Kragh exclaims. “We created a covered, exterior breezeway that connects the two wings together. So, in the evenings, grandkids can connect and play without having to run through the main house, but each family can close their separate wing.” u

Rear Exterior: The second-story gazing deck emanates Old Florida style and highlights the character features of the porthole windows. Architectural Land Design creates an entertaining deck and vanishing edge pool that cascades down to the playful yard, blending seamlessly with that of the lakeside. Casual gathering spaces adorn this double lot, including a wood burning fire pit, spa, and a meandering path. “The bright blue pool tiles complement our tropical palette and provide a rich and colorful atmosphere,” shares Phil McHenry, lead landscape designer for Architectural Land Design.

The outdoor living lifestyle fuels the design of this home’s vast lakeside amenities, that not only connect to the tropical setting, but will create lasting memories for this family-oriented homeowner. “FEMA changed the regulations mid-stream, and the client agreed to raise the whole house. It was the right move,” explains Assaad, when recalling this pivotal moment during the build. Christian Andrea, principal and owner of Architectural Land Design, and lead landscape designer Phil McHenry, capitalize on the double lot’s existing mature heritage oak trees to create this lush, private entertaining space. The tropical palette is a vibrant mixture of varying shades of green — airy and dense foliage forge a unique textural experience for this landscape. Complementing the symmetry of the architecture, a procession of royal palms surrounds the magnificent circular fountain. u

“The bright blue pool tiles complement our tropical palette and provide a rich and colorful atmosphere,” shares Phil McHenry, lead landscape designer for Architectural Land Design.

107

“After listening to the lifestyle the client wants to live, we designed the entire house around this outdoor living space, shares Kragh. 108

homeanddesign.net

“The massing of the design was equally important on this project to the detailing of the design,” shares Kragh, who delights in the intricacies of this exterior. “Steven Jallad [of MHK Architecture] did an amazing job detailing this house — it’s part of the culture we created at the firm and is our signature style,” Kragh continues. The home features horizontal lap siding, a mixture of roof lines, proportionate windows, brackets, gas lanterns, and a thoughtfully lit landscape. A roof deck crests the home, providing incredible views of the Gulf and daily sunsets. The mezzanine level boasts an airy breezeway that adds a welcoming layer of stylistic complexity. Unique MHKstyle continues through to the back side of the home where casual, outdoor living exceeds expectations. u

Outdoor Living: With the touch of a button, roll-down screens convert this outdoor living oasis into an air-conditioned interior space for maximum versatility. An aged bronze, Bahamian-style ceiling fan hangs from the dark stained ceiling, and the white porthole and louver designs carry this home’s theme. The casual setting is styled with durable, woven outdoor seating that faces the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace.

Kitchen: The dark walnut colors found on the sides of the island cabinets — by Ruffino Cabinetry — and the ceiling beams add rustic warmth to this stunning kitchen that showcases the same Sydney White quartzite as the bar. Gaddis incorporates an elegant, formal hood to blend with the cabinetry around it seamlessly. The elongated, beveled, hexagonal shape Calacatta tile backsplash adds a subtle complexity against the crisp white Ruffino Cabinetry. Polished nickel and white glass pendants with a nautical flair blend with the architectural theme.

Every sliding glass door pockets into a wall, opening the home to connect interior with exterior. A shallow pool meets the outdoor living space for both formal and family entertainment, along with a set of bifold windows connecting the alfresco lounge and the kitchen, that when open, serves as a casual bar. Interior designer Renée Gaddis artfully weaves the client’s existing vibrant rugs into this picturesque, casual-coastal design. Creamy, chamois white harmonizes with a dusted blue hue for an airy impression, while the wood tones — from saturated walnut to a breezy, washed oak — evoke the tropical inspiration of this home. Bountiful in its artistic form, the home embodies the lifestyle of these entertaining, beachycasual homeowners, who achieved their desired connection to Naples, Old Florida, and family. “Even if the Old Florida style became overdone,” shares Kragh, “this house is a fantastic example of it done right.” n

Living Room: Gaddis uses an inviting Noce Black Walnut Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring from Naples Flooring Company to balance the creamy white palette. The homeowner’s vibrant rug inspires organic and natural forms that repeats on neutral throw pillows in subtle floral patterns. East Indies flavor shows in the dark wood, turned-leg, rattan cocktail among other warm woods. The wooden element between the white columns raises to reveal a double-sided television.

Master Bedroom: This private retreat exhibits a splendid vault ceiling that provides plenty of natural light. “I want the homeowner to be delighted by the architecture of their home,” shares Kragh, who designs a one-story roof element that pops out from under the gable, creating a cozy backdoor alcove in this master bedroom. Gaddis pulls a coastal blue color from the homeowner’s existing rug as inspiration. The stunning white quatrefoil and diamond headboard with a natural raffia complements the design seen in the blue and ivory bedding accents.

112

Master Bathroom: To harmonize the space with the tropical design, “we used a Composite OVC type material for all exterior ceilings and trim details — both painted and stained,” shares Assaad, who uses a durable treatment in this bathroom ceiling. The Kallista tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery is a restful centerpiece, while the bathroom’s vaulted ceiling, lined with wood matching the rich walnut flooring, adds much-needed rustic charm to the space. Each side of the his-and-her shower has a stunning tile feature — a combination of polished Calacatta Gold and Thassos by Artistic Tile from Ceramic Matrix.

Front Exterior: With superlative architectural talent, MHK Architecture deftly uses varying roof lines with horizontal and vertical elements and a quaint, rounded-top mahogany door to create this MHK Old Florida style. Classic white adorns the exterior, while the metal roof is done in a silver Kynar finish that holds up to this design style and the salty sea air. Gas lanterns silently flicker while the circular fountain rhythmically dances — engaging the senses for an inviting feeling to this landmark property.

Luminous open spaces exhibit artwork within a warm, contemporary lakefront home

125

Front Exterior: The entry includes a custom-built solid maple door with dramatic stainless inlays, and a portico ceiling of nickel gap tongue and groove design. The deep blue agate tile with pearl finish draws attention to the fountain which includes a Mexican beach pebble bottom. The driveway is lined with custom gray concrete pavers enhanced with scattered white oyster shell and black tile inlays. The LED backlit house numbers add drama to a standalone “Oolite” stone feature. Great Room: “To balance the clean lines and contemporary nature, I used a layering of textures so the space would not feel ‘cold’,” explains Coslet. The Adriana Hoyos chairs from Collins DuPont Design Group provide a 360-degree swivel, and feature a sapphire blue fabric with silver glints that flow from the back of the chair down the arm with a metallic gray leather seat. The flooring by Ruben Sorhegui Tile is thin-set, large format marble-look porcelain. Foyer: The home’s foyer features a gallery for custom art displayed on a slat system so the homeowner can switch out and rotate the artwork when desired. All of the artwork — with the exception of the dining room’s — was painted by the homeowner’s brother, who was a gallery artist in Minnesota and Chicago before he passed away approximately 10 years ago. Off the foyer, the main hallway features six custom lighted wall sculptures, giving guests a preview of the many geometric details found throughout this contemporary home’s design.

Inspired by the homeowner’s love of architecture, this contemporary custom home with expansive lake views is detailed in design. The home’s spectacular views come into play as it sits on the large body of water that is known as Lake Como. “The inspiration for this house was to create a bright, open-light, entertainment-style home that capitalized on the views,” explains John Cooney, partner at Stofft Cooney Architects. It was specifically designed so that almost every room can look out to the pool and beyond to the lake. Kim Collins and her team at Collins DuPont Design Group continued this strategy with their design plans. “Our approach was to create a luminous, bright open space to exhibit the art collection, featuring the stunning artwork of the owner’s brother,” says Collins, vice president and principal owner of Collins DuPont Design Group. “It’s very colorful, vibrant, and moving. So, we approached it with the art as the star of the show.” “We had a good team,” adds Matthew Shull, vice president of Gulfshore Homes. “The team listened to the homeowners and worked cohesively to assure the home included all of their personal touches. It wasn’t just a set of ‘here’s how you build it’ plans.” u

homeanddesign.net

127

Evolutionary in scope, the art in the main hallway can be rotated and switched as if in a true art gallery so everything else is more subdued, because the pieces in the collection are the key. The decorative recessed lighting plays an important role highlighting the art throughout the home by using cool tones that support — but do not compete — with the artwork, and fixtures that are simple yet unexpected. Accents of cobalt and midnight blue adorn the walls and furnishings to introduce texture and contrast. The home’s floating staircase is clad in glass and wraps around the elevator — which was not part of the initial design concept. “The challenge was to not make it look like an afterthought,” states Cooney. “The sculptural nature of the stairs kind of begged for a glass sculptural elevator. We turned the request into a real jewel. The stairs complement the elevator and the elevator complements the stairs. It really turned out well.” With a passion for architecture, the wife was very hands-on in the design of the home. Her love of simple, geometrical detail is seen in the ceiling designs and throughout the residence. The kitchen and breakfast area feature two different patterns that are dropped and cantilevered and then mixed with a dark stain and a painted dry wall. “It’s how they are juxtaposed with the walls and come down in different increments that creates balance and interest without being so fussy,” explains Amy Coslet, senior interior designer at Collins DuPont Design Group and project leader on the home. u

128

homeanddesign.net

Kitchen: The cabinets are a simple slab-door profile design with a high-gloss painted gray lacquer finish. Floating glass shelves set against the elongated glass hexagon tile from Ruben Sorhegui Tile complement the seemingly floating ceiling design — which feature dropped cantilevered slabs of both stained wood and drywall, both backlit to create a harmonious look. Collins DuPont Design Group designed the bar’s metal support that suspends the lighted Antolini stone white crystal top. All the kitchen appliances were sourced locally through Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Wine Closet: “The original design called for a walk-in wine cellar room, but after an on-site visit with the homeowner, I decided to cut back the area to feature a wine closet instead, which opens up the space,” Coslet shares. “I designed a built-in that spans beneath the television area into the wine cellar.” This allows the entire expanse of the wall to read as a single unit rather than broken up into different dedicated spaces.

homeanddesign.net

129

An open floor plan flows from room to room — from the dining room and the great room, then continuing into the kitchen — resulting in naturally lit spaces. At a total of 10,620 square feet with 7,496 square feet under air, the fivebedroom, eight-bathroom, two-story home is perfect for clients who spend a lot of time outdoors and whose large family often visits from the Midwest. “That was basically the brainstorming behind designing the outside space,” describes Coslet. “Even though the home is contemporary and modern, we still have the warmth. We used different elements and multiple fabric textures to marry the outside with the inside.” Along with the lanai’s fireplace, there are various individual outside gems featured in the home’s design. “There’s an outdoor terrace off the master bedroom with billowing curtains and a private reading area,” describes Collins, adding that all guests and family members have their own similar outdoor spaces. “When you begin a project such as this one, you have to listen,” says Shull. While the clients were very involved in the project, it was important to hear their needs for the home’s construction. “Everybody communicated well, and we were able to a deliver a beautiful, contemporary home.” u

130

homeanddesign.net

Dining Room: The LED rectangular light fixture by Hubbardton Forge is finished in burnished steel with clear bubble glass that resemble raindrops cascading down a trellis in the springtime as floating orbs are displayed against the well-placed art piece. The handcrafted wallcovering is layered on reflective mylar in white, blue, and gray. The artwork, titled “Rock and Roll” by Teng Fei, is the perfect backdrop to finish this space.

Elevator and Stairs: “At inception of design we did not think about a glass elevator; however, after walls were up, the client thought adding one would align with our goal of creating a luminous open space to enjoy the art,” states Collins. The staircase has floating stair treads connected by a painted wood stringer with glass railings and a custom profile stainless steel handrail. The all-glass elevator allows the light to filter fully through the front windows, by Andersen Windows & Doors sourced locally through Florida Wood Window & Door.

Den: “The ceilings in this house are quite special. If you take a close look, there are a lot of different architectural ceilings that we designed that are very contemporary in nature,” Cooney states. The flooring, purchased locally through Floorcrafters, was fabricated in Italy. It consists of planks of wood cut in diamond patterns to create a unique design when laid. To complement the floor, Coslet designed a dropped open-grid wood ceiling that mimics the pattern below.

homeanddesign.net

131

His Master Bath, Right: The shower wall accent tile from Ceramic Matrix is a modern twist on a classic subway pattern. Each tile is digitally printed in Italy to simulate 11 different textures, blended to create a single panel with amazing variety. The artwork is a black and white charcoal work by the homeowner’s brother, which complements the hues of this master bath.

Her Master Bath, Below: The light fixture in the master bath is light, feminine, and airy, which evokes the feeling of the space. “It is by Moooi, style Heracleum and imparts a very dreamy organic snowflake concept,” Collins shares. The flooring and vanity cabinet face is an exotic marble sourced through Ruben Sorhegui Tile that features translucent crystals set into the marble and accented by a charcoal linear vein. Equally luxurious, the master en suite is also outfitted with custom his & her closets by California Closets.

132

homeanddesign.net

Master Bedroom: Coslet designed the custom headboard and side panels to fit as a built-in that spans the entire wall. The metallic silver wood frame is set against a quilted horizontal wave patterned vinyl, which gives a sense of movement. “Instead of art over the bed, I selected a light fixture that would function as an art piece,” explains Coslet. The fixture by Studio Endo Lighting consists of five suspended LED V-shaped lights that are hung at graduated heights. The bedding was the final design element. The bed cover and shams have a silver tone background with tiny plumes of black peeking through by Osbourne & Little.

“It was fabulous working with Gulfshore Homes,” says Collins. “I think we achieved a true sense of modernity without losing the sense of the home,” she reflects. Coslet is a firm believer that form follows function. “You can have a really beautiful home and if it’s not practical, if it doesn’t function for your lifestyle, and if it’s not comfortable to live in, then it doesn’t work,” she closes. However, through the use of different elements, fabrics, and a variety of textures, Collins and Coslet created a true sense of warmth in a modern setting. n

133

Lanai: The outdoor living space was designed to be an extension of the indoor space. “Located just off the kitchen area, I designed the dropped cantilevered ceilings set against stained wood to complement the ceiling detail of the kitchen,” Coslet describes. The fireplace is clad in travertine stone, which is repeated on the exterior cladding on the front of the home. Multiple dining areas and a large sitting area that are easily enclosed by automated screens from Castle Services of SWFL create the perfect multiuse space for entertaining. Rear Elevation: The home’s lakeside living area consists of a private master garden, master lanai, upstairs balcony lounge, a reading lounge, spa bar, pool, fire pit, and an expansive covered lanai. The reflecting pool, covered in a mosaic elongated hexagon glass tile from Ceramic Matrix, extends from the home off the foyer’s art gallery onto a sun deck, revealing the large spa and the main swimming area, only to continue as if it spills into the lake beyond.

HOME

A model home that blends expressive wood details, a neutral palette, and contemporary finishes that impart a calm yet dramatic refuge.

T

Tucked away in the quaint cityscape of Naples sits Quail West, an amenity-rich community adjacent to golf courses, striking panoramas, and lavish homes. Featuring an expansive outdoor living area, complete with kitchen, fireplace, pool, and spa, the Calista model by STOCK Custom Homes, in collaboration with Cardamon Design, Stofft Cooney Architects, and Architectural Land Design, epitomizes the community’s deluxe living standards. A wine room, open kitchen, vaulted beamed ceilings, and open sightlines to the outside living area were designed with dozens of memory points strategically integrated throughout. It is a most exceptional address and winner of five Sand Dollar awards. u

Front Elevation: A circular driveway and towering palm trees provide a tropical flair and welcoming entrance to the Calista model, a stunning Quail West estate home with 5,506 square feet under air and 8,570 total square feet. From the front entrance, the homeowner is invited to step into an expansive foyer with sightlines into the great room and views from all angles. Great room: The great room boasts a 19-foot cerused wood vaulted ceiling and a stunning white and gray Carrara quartz fireplace beside built-in recessed backlit shelving leading to the soft window coverings that convey refinement and sophistication. The space is rounded off with the classic simplicity of Vanguard seating, modern side tables, a brushed bronze center table, and is illuminated by classic chandeliers suspended above — all sourced through International Design Source.

Interior designer Laurie Walter and her team at Cardamon Design employed casual sophistication with an inviting neutral palette. Esthetic White, Agreeable Grey, and Taupe Tone by SherwinWilliams create a calming atmosphere utilizing organic fibers and matte metal details in the furniture and design accents. It’s a timeless style. In Walter’s work, the hand of an artisan is everywhere, just as the eye of a thoughtful and meticulous architect is also evident in the Calista. Dedicated to working closely with the rest of the team to create genuine human connections within the space, architect Randall Stofft and his partner John Cooney at Stofft Cooney Architects emphasize a contemporary aesthetic to create a marketable, livable home that appeals to homebuyers. Clean gable ends, ceilings that vault to 19 feet in the great room, expansive glass, an open floor plan, and rustic elements are just a few of the architectural details seen throughout the model. “It’s the edgy contemporary yet classical details that showcase the Calista’s design. We didn’t reinvent the wheel, but instead incorporated authentic details into a unique build,” Cooney points out. “Even the smallest details have a very significant emotional impact, making the space feel warm and modern.” A dedication to quality by the STOCK team is echoed by the Calista’s bright interior and sprawling outdoor spaces. Matt Sellick, president of STOCK Custom Homes, sets the stage. “The Calista is artful, contemporary, and rustic. The home blends a palette of expressive cerused wood details, unique finishes, and a wash of daylight from a back wall of windows, providing a calm, yet dramatic refuge.”

u

Kitchen: The tray ceiling detail with three wooden vertical beams complements the underlit floating shelves fabricated in dark metal tones, and the large Calacatta Classique white quartz countertop on the center island makes this kitchen the ideal gathering place. Cabinets in Beach House White by Ruffino Cabinetry flank a custom fabricated metal range hood and the herringbone tile backsplash and modern fixtures — from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery — give the space a timeless feel.

145

“We have great relationships with the best of the best designers and architects,” adds Claudine Leger-Wetzel, vice president of sales & marketing at STOCK Development. “So, when you collaborate with the best, the final product is the best you can get.” While the home’s interior offers a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, the Calista’s outdoor spaces are just as welcoming. Christian Andrea, landscape architect and owner of Architectural Land Design, approaches each project by “taking inspiration from the architect and using that as a guide.” This project was no different. As a result, “our team brought in a variety of specific landscaping, water features, and lighting to complement the overall style of the home.” u

Wine Room: Reflecting the home’s all-encompassing aesthetic, the design of the wine room was given as much attention as the rest of the house. Matt Sellick, president of STOCK Custom Homes reveals that most homeowners want a wine room. “Homeowners can gather in the dining room, kitchen, and living areas — all rooms of the Calista from which the wine room is visible, much like a piece of art.” Fabricated in oil rubbed bronze metal, the wine room is temperature-controlled to adequately store more than 550 bottles of wine retained in horizontal storage areas. Dining Room: The formal dining room takes the overall home’s architectural details while adapting a more modern flair. Sleek upholstered Vanguard chairs and a sprawling dining table from International Design Source are flanked by floating shelves on either side — perfect for additional serving surfaces when needed. Floor to ceiling window dressings offer varied views, while contemporary artwork and French white oak wide-plank flooring installed in a herringbone pattern sets a gentle mood for entertaining and large family get-togethers.

Christian and his team are responsible for everything outside of the home — all site work, grading, hardscape aspects, water features, lighting design, and landscape planting. “In our design, we created sun angles and view corridors — the whole experience while walking through the property. It’s like an onion. You peel off the layers for an overall experience.” It’s impossible to describe the grandeur in only a few short paragraphs as the Calista has so much to offer. The team’s ideas were completely in sync, creating an intuitive space that beckons everyone who visits to stay a while. When asked what part of this project she was most proud of, Walter laughs. “When I walk into the Calista home, it feels amazing. I want to live here!” n

Master Bedroom: The design features in the master suite combine lush materials, calming colors, and 13-foot ornate ceiling patterns. Mixing and matching various textures and materials, such as the custom upholstered headboard that rises to ceiling height, a stunning ceiling-mounted light fixture, and an upholstered platform bed frame, creates an enticing and tranquil effect. Locally sourced through Florida Wood Window & Door, the seating area’s expansive windows by Andersen Windows & Doors provide lush views of the outdoor living and backyard, making the master suite a couples’ hideaway. Master Bathroom: A dream-inspired master bath boasts under cabinet lighting, and calacatta marble flooring that spans floor to ceiling behind the oversized glass-enclosed shower. Beautifully crafted built-in wall storage for towels or skincare, and a large double vanity with a mosaic tile mirror gives the master bath a spa-like appeal.

Club Room: Barn doors in warm gray tones flank the entry to the Calista’s library or club room, which features a handsomely detailed floating console and a spacious desk with walnut-colored bookshelves for added storage. Above, crisscross backlit ceiling beams and a modern Sputnik-style chandelier anchor the room. Stately silver leaf orbs coordinate with the simple selection of accessories and serve as contemporary artwork. An additional seating area set back by the floor-to-ceiling windows make this space ideal for both a home office or quiet getaway. Guest Bedroom: This guest room extends an inviting atmosphere to ensure everyone is comfortable during their stay. The room offers a wood-framed platform bed with tufted headboard, white bedside tables, and a shiplap accent wall. Walk-in closets and direct access to a covered terrace by way of French doors invite freshness, light, and charm into the room. Rugs and room decor by International Design Source and Hadinger Flooring round out the cozy and intimate atmosphere that beckons guests to stay awhile.

Rear Elevation: Andrea designed the outdoor oasis to flow seamlessly from the Calista’s interior living. Walls of glass sliding doors in the great room retract in two directions, providing direct access to the pool and outdoor living area. “Because of the symmetrically placed spa, the user becomes a part of the outdoor space,” Andrea adds. Incorporating design elements such as a neutral color palette with matte metal finishes and decorative stained beams unifies the three outdoor areas — creating a warm, welcoming space for entertaining and enjoying a day beside the pool.

The kitchen is minimal and functional with two freestanding islands that offer plenty of space for preparation and entertaining while quartzite waterfall edge countertops create a showstopping focal point. The Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring sets the stage for the design palette and runs throughout the entire condo. Appliances from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery are fully integrated and hidden from sight so that nothing interrupts the view.

Family Room: The family room combines organic materials and neutral layers for a clean, modern look. The sectional and chairs were custom made for J. Lynn Design Group by Burton James, and the custom velour velvet rug features neutral tones. The coffee table is a custom piece in Bronze Amani from Antolini, which brings in the same warm tones as wood. “I originally wanted wood but the clients wanted something durable that was easy to maintain, so this was my way of getting the same warmth and contrast a wood top would have provided while using marble, says Jenna Getchell, founder of J. Lynn Design Group.

An important part of the design process for interior designer Jenna Getchell is getting to know her clients and their needs in order to bring their visions to life. “I’m different from most designers, who tend to specialize in a particular style,” says Getchell, founder of J. Lynn Design Group, an award-winning design firm. “I strive to design for my client’s personal aesthetic. Listening to their desires and needs from the very start allows me to hone in on their personal style. This customized approach allows us to have projects that are one of a kind.” Getchell completely redesigned this 3,300-square-foot condo in Bay Colony — one of the most sought-after high-rises in Naples, Florida — while working closely with contractor Manuel Monteiro, who had done a previous remodel with the homeowners. Located on the 14th floor, the unit offers unobstructed views of the Gulf of Mexico that can be enjoyed from nearly every vantage point in the home. u

homeanddesign.net

163

“Prior to the remodel, the rooms were segregated which minimized the views and limited the flow of the space,” explains Getchell. “The kitchen was completely closed off to the living room and you could only see a section of the view. At no point did you see the entire 180-degree span of the home’s views. We opened up the entire floor plan creating the perfect flow for today’s family life, while maximizing every viewpoint.”

Dining Room: The kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining room, which features custom-built detailed cabinets in dark walnut with a custom stain finish. Designed for long and narrow spaces, the oval-shaped glass dining table cultivates a soft and elegant aesthetic, in addition to expanded seating capacity. A floating LED trough suspended from the ceiling adds the perfect ambiance and maintains a sleek appearance.

To add more space and depth, Monteiro used a high-pressure system he developed years ago to raise the ceilings an entire foot. To create a seamless transition into the master bedroom from the family room, he added a Harmon Hinge system that allows the doors to disappear into the walls while adding extra detail to the entryway. The homeowners, a couple from Chicago, wanted a sleek, modern look with monochromatic lines and a neutral color scheme. To prevent the interior from appearing stark, warmth was created by adding layers of texture and patterns throughout. “The unit is the palette while the furniture and personal belongings are the artwork,” says Monteiro. u

164

homeanddesign.net

Lounge: Getchell designed the wood table in the lounge from Old Biscayne Designs at a height lower than the dining room table but higher than the coffee table — perfect for enjoying appetizers and playing games with friends. To accentuate the black granite sculpture that belonged to her clients prior to the remodel, Getchell designed a wood wrap feature that raises the piece by 18 inches and gives it more purpose. The commissioned painting “Sitting Detail” by Kristen Giorgi was created after Getchell sent swatches of various fabrics and details used in the home to the artist. “The lounge is the only place in the home where color is introduced,” says Getchell. “In theory, the neutral palette allows the Gulf to be the art.”

Master Bedroom: In the master bedroom, the owners wanted the view to be the star of the show and the use of minimal window treatments and hidden sun shades accomplished this. From certain angles, the Gulf can be seen in the Coquille mirror that has a textural scalloping design. “Depending on where you’re standing, it reflects the Gulf and provides a nice pop of color to the neutral palette,” says Getchell. The wallcovering she chose behind the bed is composed of textured grasscloth, while the tall headboard features a contrast of darker wood and horizontal channels of ivory faux leather. Custom bed pillows from Kravet pair nicely with a custom chenille duvet coverlet that has a contrasting strip down the center, giving off a velour-like feel. A comfortable ottoman from Hickory Chair sets a serene scene flanked by an acrylic end table from Bernhardt.

Master Bathroom: “This is one of the most sophisticated bathrooms we’ve done, and Jenna is really good at not letting one thing overwhelm another,” says Monteiro of the master bathroom, which includes faux marble porcelain countertops accented with polished nickel fixtures from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. It offers plenty of space with separate vanities and a sit-down area, along with his-and-her closets. Custom cabinets provide a three-dimensional effect with applied moulding details and panels within the doors specifically to accommodate the hardware. The ceiling has a floating detail ledge with LED lights that add ambiance and a modern feel. A marble chevron pattern floor in Skyline adds texture and visual excitement to the crisp white bathroom. “I was looking for something to anchor the space as well as add texture. This tile was the perfect complement to the design,” says Getchell.

homeanddesign.net

167

Guest Bedroom: Getchell designed the guest room around the espresso wood headboard that belongs to the owners. Pendant lighting frees up space on the small-scale oval nightstands to utilize the surface area between the wall and bed. Fabric walls with a linear texture add subtle dimension to the room while a custom duvet and pillowcases in taupe and dark brown bring in a sharp layer of distinction.

Guest Bathroom: Frameless shower glass enclosures and mirrors installed by Builders Glass of Bonita make the guest bathroom more spacious and showcase Getchell’s stunning tile design. Playing off the existing small square window, she creates a cross-shaped design out of cadet blue and gray herringbone marble mosaic that contrasts the porcelain faux marble walls and converges with the floor. Polished nickel fixtures from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery add a touch of luster.

168

homeanddesign.net

Getchell and Monteiro have collaborated on multiple projects over the past eight years and share a mutual respect for one another, which makes it easier to overcome any challenges they face. “Jenna is very hands-on, and she has really good taste,” shares Monteiro. “She also understands condos really well, which is nice because with every job you’re going to run into something different. I know that whenever I’m on a job with her, the project will get done to our expectations.” Getchell wholeheartedly agrees. “We work together pretty seamlessly,” she says. “He welcomes my input and is really great at respecting the designer and the vision, which helps the process go more smoothly.” n

Office: A space for work and relaxation, the office includes reclining chairs and an ottoman — the perfect spot for watching television and enjoying a drink at the end of the day. To bring in the Gulf and reflect one of the owner’s favorite hobbies, Getchell hung sailboatthemed art on the neutral textured wall to add visual interest. Both the credenza and the custom desk, with a bronze metal end panel mixed with rift white oak, are from J. Lynn Design Group. A floating shelf houses a LED light that enlivens the alabaster shades, and a light fixture with alabaster discs and a bronze finish ties in with the subtle color scheme.

169

Lanai: With the sliding doors open, the lanai expands this condo’s living space by about 1,500 square feet. An oversized, curving glassrailed balcony enhances the sweeping views of the Gulf from the lanai. To maintain the indoor-outdoor flow, Getchell selected porcelain tile for the lanai floors that perfectly matches the European wood flooring inside the home from Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring. Club chairs make relaxation a priority with custom throw pillows depicting an abstract water print from Kravet. A cast concrete table mimics the look of a natural tree trunk for an organic, earthy feel.

COASTAL FARMHOUSE A Bonita Beach home highlights an abundance of light and views of the Gulf 178

T

“The idea was to create a design that would be something new and fresh on the beach but also appeal to a wide audience,” says Alex Thies of the spec home on Bonita Beach that she worked on alongside Potter Homes, which brought her on the project. The owner and lead designer of Adelyn Charles Interiors calls the concept “modern coastal farmhouse,” a perfect term for a home that comes to life at the water’s edge. The approximately 14-month-long project sold before it was completed and since closed this past December. “There’s a lot of flexibility built into the designs of these floor plans, as well as the elevations — the kind that appeal to the masses,” explains Rich Guzman, owner and residential designer of R.G. Designs, who worked closely with everyone on the project. An abundance of these windows allow for natural light offering inviting views. The back of the home features 30-foot-plus sliding glass doors. “When you walk in that front door you’re just looking straight out to the Gulf of Mexico,” notes Guzman. u

Great Room: “The ceilings here are kind of fun because I wanted to create modern and clean lines,” Thies describes. “It’s still a modern design but with the comforts of a more transitional coastal design.” The ceiling fans by Lighting First allow comfortable indoor-outdoor living when the sliders are open to the Gulf beyond. Real Wood Floors’ European white oak floors, installed by Floorcrafters, are the perfect foundation for the warm, earthy feel of the living room space. Wine Room & Bar: A matte black ceiling-mounted wine rack suspends the wine display in front of a painted nickel gap wall mimicking the ceilings in the living room. “It’s a newer idea of the old wine cellar, but it’s in a beachy, bright contemporary home, so, we dressed it up accordingly,” Thies explains.

180

182

That fits perfectly with Allen Johnson’s vision as superindendent of Potter Homes. “First and foremost, we consider the Gulf view and front and rear elevation design,” he says. “Plus this house has a great interior design. We receive a lot of comments about how nice the front elevation is. With a total of 9,458 square feet and 5,224 square feet under air, the home has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Thies approached it with her signature organic, earthy design. “I’m always trying to challenge myself to come up with ways to make it feel new and special,” she explains. u

Kitchen: The custom kitchen features crisp white cabinets broken up by warm wood accents. “The floating shelves on either side of the custom hood bring visual interest and balance out the X pattern flanking each side of the extra-large kitchen island,” describes Thies. Stainless steel Thermador appliances from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery bring a touch of industrial charm to the modern farmhouse-style kitchen, while handwoven jute rope counter stools ground it in a warm, coastal feel. Dining Room: The high windows by Anderson Windows & Doors — sourced locally through Naples Lumber — bring an abundance of natural light into the dining area, and seamlessly transition into the kitchen framed out by the cabinetry and custom hood. A beaded chandelier anchors the stained wood dining table with patterned upholstered chairs featuring matte black metal bases. homeanddesign.net

Working with Johnson was a delight for Thies. “I love everything about working with Al,” she proclaims, adding that they have worked together for five years. Johnson approaches his work in a positive manner and works as a true partner. “As a designer, you can’t ask for more than that.” For Johnson, the feeling is mutual. “She makes quick decisions for us, keeps us flowing, gives us what we need to get through all the different processes,” he states. That is important for Johnson who works with everyone on the project from breaking ground until it’s turned over to the owner. “I actually work with the owner for the first year to make sure everything operates,” Johnson says. Thies enjoys finding that one route of inspiration on a project. In this home, she found that in the ‘modern farmhouse meets coastal kitchen’ where everything else evolved and flowed naturally from there. Instead of the typical white Florida kitchen, Thies brought in wood tones “to bring it up a notch and give it that earthiness and natural warmth.” A very neutral palette adds dimension with a lot of natural textures from raw wood and woven materials, as well as jute rugs and concrete. “There are all of these things that kind of juxtapose each other and work together to create interest without necessarily having to have big, loud pops of color,” describes Thies. The lanai is designed with the elements in mind since everything takes a beating on the Gulf. Here, the colors from the inside of the house were brought outside for an added sense of comfort. “The beams obviously tie into the ceilings on the inside and continue to direct your line of sight out toward the Gulf,” explains Thies. The porcelain tile on the patio is made to appear like a shell stone for that beachy vibe and extends to the edge of the pool. u

184

Master Bedroom: A viscose and bamboo silk area rug brings texture and charm to the Real Wood Floors white oak that is installed in a diagonal pattern. Woven wood pendants delicately hover over the nightstands on either side of the upholstered headboard while neutral textured drapery panels soften the windows, sourced locally through Naples Lumber, that look out over an inviting view of the Gulf. Master Bathroom: A Signature Hardware bathtub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery is accented by a marble mosaic waterfall from ceiling to floor directly behind it. “This is polished where everything else around it is not,” says Thies. “So, it really takes the light and the glow and it makes it look like a waterfall.” The oversized chandelier features hand-bent, wide-split rattan details that adds a touch of Zen to the spa-like space.

While there were challenges in the design process because the home is in a Department of Environmental Protection zone, “it also creates a lot of opportunities as we were able to develop the pool on the second floor, which gives it great views,” exclaims Andrea Douglas, landscape architect at Outside Productions International. When designing the landscaping around the home “there’s a certain type of planting that works well,” says Douglas. “On either side of the property we have palms and small trees. They will grow a little bit vertical and just let the architecture shine.” Featuring a center entry with garage entries flanking both sides, the front of the home features lots of different windows. “That’s kind of the trait that I have,” says Guzman. “I like symmetry, but I prefer asymmetry.” Construction began shortly before the pandemic hit, so there were delays, making it difficult to complete because of a looming deadline. “It was a challenge but we had to improvise with last-minute selections that had to be made,” notes Thies, whose design team includes Emily Schlimm and Rachel Spadavecchia. “In the end, I’m really thrilled with how everything came together and that we made our deadline.” n

Office: “More and more people are needing a secondary living space in their home, and not just a small study,” Thies explains. “So, this room kind of doubles as a secondary living space.” Comfortable swivels and a settee form a seating area, creating the perfect spot for an early morning coffee or afternoon cocktail. Second Floor Hallway: A series of three floating wood Arteriors pendants hang from a stained white oak beam. Custom oak headers at each end of the landing lead to additional rooms beyond, while the warm oak floors and a cozy upholstered bench invite you to continue down the hall, or stay a while. “We kept the same flooring throughout the house from front to back as it makes the rooms feel larger,” states Guzman.

Lanai: A sleek, linear fireplace sets the tone for this outdoor living space with plenty of cozy seating that truly defines indoor-outdoor living on the beach. Non-slip porcelain tile mimics the sand of the beach below and flows seamlessly to the edge of the pool. “The spa is at the same level as the pool,” adds Douglas. “That gives it a crisp, clean look, and the infinity edge takes the eye from the pool water beyond to the Gulf.” Front Exterior: The driveway pavers were chosen in a creamy blend to complement the neutral colors of the home. Two ceramic pots flank the front entry, and stained cypress brackets and a trellis over the front entry bring a touch of warmth to the exterior, reminiscent of the stained oak accents on the interior.

Style from

FLOOR TO CEILING Gulf-view condo becomes a fantastic blend of modern and British West Indies

I

Infusing modern living with British West Indies style, Wendy Berry, owner and principal designer of W Design Interiors, uses her strong, creative prowess to design this new condominium, floor-to-ceiling. Berry works closely with Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring to create a memorable flooring design. Tiffany Guido, vice president of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, shares, “Working with Wendy Berry, and the W Design Interiors team, is an aweinspiring experience. Wendy knows how to capture the true beauty of the floors with her impeccable design talent.” Pulling from tropical, whimsical, and modern inspiration, Berry delivers a one-of-a-kind design for this high-rise condominium in Naples. Berry lays out the space to capitalize on the stunning view of the Gulf Coast. The charismatic stone-and-wood flooring foyer design is truly a dramatic, high-end statement. Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring uses certified European French Oak, and Berry selects this smoked and lightly brushed Taormina floor — using it wall-to-wall. Intricate, wood-clad ceiling designs delineate each space, yet their shared qualities garner a cohesive feel throughout. “With the warm, dark wood floor, and the dark wood ceiling, we wanted to keep the fabrics light and bright,” shares Berry. The strong ceiling elements elevate the luxurious warmth of this space. u

198

homeanddesign.net

Foyer: “The foyer was designed to give these homeowners a unique show-stopping entryway,” says Berry, who delivers that experience by using Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring’s Taormina Herringbone product, from the Dolce Vita Collection, with an exotic limestone inlay on the floor, sourced and professionally installed by Naples Flooring Company. The unique floor-to-ceiling glass, framed by the dark-walnut wooden trim, amplifies this jaw-dropping entryway. The same dark-stained colors repeat on the modern-style door and the ceiling detail. Found while W Design attended High Point Market, the abstract artwork — with pops of cerulean and crimson set above an entryway bench with mirrored colors — adds a freeform visual to this linear design. “The most amazing part of this unit, other than the unique design, is the view,” shares Berry, who uses the view as a piece of art and the finishing touch to each space.

Berry carries the same wood flooring from the foyer throughout the rest of the space. Guido describes how the Dolce Vita Collection product, “features widths of over 10 inches with very long lengths, and creates an overall look with less seams and more panache.

Dining Room: Richly dark-stained ceiling beams, hailing from their British West Indies’ roots, rest between the white, modern moulded trim details on this striking ceiling. “The modern West Indies aesthetic was carried through the artwork,” shares Berry, who selects these two wonderful pieces, Alicia Armstrong, Clear View, and Liz Barber-Leventhal, Waterfall 2, from Gardner Colby Gallery. “We chose the dining room artwork for the pops of blue and green that complement the colors in the custom rug.” Berry instills a serene ambiance with delicate forms seen on the table-length Urban Electric chandelier, and by way of her muted color choices. The soft driftwood finish of the dining chairs with sleek, gunmetal-gray leather and tape-and-nailhead trim by W Design pair beautifully with the Century Furniture dining table in a blonde, cerused oak finish. Office: Full-height glass walls encase this functional office while preserving the alluring Gulf view. Large glass barn doors with rectilinear chrome handles — alongside the punchy, abstract art — offer modern details. The built-in shelves are perfect for adding character-rich pieces and share the custom stain with the waterfall-edge desk. A three-candle iron lantern hangs above the sleek W Home Collection Kalea Chaise that is adorned with a plush black, white, and gray pillow. This breathtaking lounge area is the essence of this design concept.

Clear glass walls encase the corner office to preserve the spectacular coastal view, connecting this study to the main living space. Berry melds clean lines, dark wood tones, character pieces, and a soothing colorway to encapsulate this blend of modern design and the tropics. “There is a balance and play of color in the artwork and fabrics between neutral textures and bright pops, delights Berry. Rich, walnut brown, and a crisp white fill this space, and Berry layers in softer wood tones, blues, greens, and even candy red for impact. Large, sculptural vases throughout offer an organic presence that softens the clean lines of the architecture. u

“The client was very specific about the unique artwork they wanted, and we sourced each piece thoughtfully,” recalls Berry. The stunning abstract artwork of the entry echoes the swanky, upscale feel of the foyer, while the abstract artwork in the dining room mirrors the softer expression of this soothing dining space. Whimsical guest rooms with spectacular views each have their own unique flavor and style, yet harmonize with the overall design concept. Owner of W Home retail showroom in Ohio, Berry shares, “We custom design most of the upholstery, but we also have a variety of unique, one-of-a-kind accessories, candle lines, and artisan’s contributions from all over the world.” She incorporates W Home pieces in this remarkable Naples’ condo. Berry describes the unit as having been a blank canvas, to which she eloquently delivers this fresh, floor-to-ceiling, modern-infused, British West Indies design to beautifully capture the ambiance of the Caribbean for modern living. n

Master Bedroom: A custom Vanguard bed from W Design rests under the stunning and dramatic custom ceiling. Stained in the same warm walnut, this up-lit step-ceiling is given the illusion of height by the soft glow of the hidden tape lighting. A pearly wallcovering wraps the room complementing the plush, subtle white-and-gray, wall-to-wall rug. Atop the Noir Furniture nightstands are a pair of powder-blue ceramic lamps from Visual Comfort, and the transitional, gold-frame mirrors on either side of the gray, tufted headboard complete the look and reflect the stunning tropical view.

Guest Bedroom, Above: Crisp, white bedding with textural pillow shams on this modern canopy bed topped with soft gray accents fill this guest space nicely. “This is a room with natural materials, full of neutrals and texture rather than pops of color,” describes Berry. Natural twig elements on the soft area rug are mirrored in the bronze lamps, while the front of the hexagon Bernhardt nightstands in creamy white mirror the bed pillows. By the gorgeous floor-to-ceiling window sits a woven banana-fiber seat rocker in a teak veneer frame that splendidly contrasts the rest of this space. Guest Bathroom: “We love to do a fun wallpaper in the bathrooms. In this unit, the bathrooms are built with the cabinetry and countertop already, so this was a fun way to give life to this space,” shares Berry. She does so with the coral and sand color scheme found in the diamond-pattern wallcovering, meant to resemble embroidery and hand block linen. Polished nickel and white glass Basil Linear sconces from Visual Comfort bring in a modern feel and complement the existing space handsomely. Guest Bedroom, Right: Berry draws inspiration for this fanciful guest bedroom from her stays at the Whitby Hotel in New York City. “I love the whimsical design at the Whitby. The fabrics are the most amazing quality, with a combination of patterns, textures, and colors that are not only fun, but so well done,” says Berry. Custom made by W Home Collection for W Design, the headboards are anything but traditional. Berry infuses this guest room with a touch of the Whitby’s whimsy in an artistic, playful, and colorful avian motif. She uses a combination of patterns like the Ambella Collection bench in a Manuel Canovas fabric to build this eclectic guest room.

Lanai: “The view — it’s what this building is all about,” delights Berry, who creates a comfortable outdoor gathering space for family and entertaining. Berry selected woven Palecek chairs and a casual white dining table for two along with colorful lemon tree motif throw pillows to adorn the outdoor sofa in white. The stunning Phillip’s Collection sculptural wood table warms up this outdoor living space.

MAKING A STATEMENT A luxury home on a unique lot is designed to maximize views

The transitional coastal residence’s façade includes a concrete tile roof in a charcoal hue and a smooth stucco finish. The curved driveway leads to the home’s double-door entry, which is centrally located between two two-car garages — one on the left and the other on the right, creating a motor court effect. Landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design utilized coconut palms to accentuate the lush, tropical landscape — an element that can also be seen in the home’s impressive outdoor living and pool area. homeanddesign.net

Quail West is known for its magnificent estate homes on oversized lots that offer breathtaking views. What truly sets the community apart from others is that no two homes are alike — each house is completely customized to offer the highest quality of living. Through their Custom Homes division, STOCK Development has completed luxury single-family and custom estate homes in the private golf community throughout the years. Their latest home in Quail West, the Newport Model, is the ultimate statement piece: a stunning 5,837-squarefoot property located on a unique lot that offers panoramic views. Inspired by the relaxed sophistication of the Naples lifestyle, the four-bedroom home includes high ceilings and oversized crown moulding that provide a sense of grandeur. “When we first started in Quail West, it was the beginning of the STOCK brand evolving even more into the luxury market,” says Claudine Wetzel, vice president of sales & marketing at STOCK Development. “We realized that buyers in a community such as this one wanted customization and personalization. It was around that time that we discovered we had an opportunity to take things to the next level, and that was the beginning of our custom division. We have a really good understanding of how people live — our homes are not only beautiful, but their livability is really well thought out.” To bring their vision to life, STOCK Development enlisted residential designer Rich Guzman of R.G. Designs, who has worked with them on various projects for nearly 18 years. He designed the home by angling it to fit the pie-shaped lot, which expands the further back you are from the street. The property interacts with its outdoor environment while maximizing views that can be enjoyed from every room via floor-to-ceiling windows. u

Living Room: “One of the nice things about this house is that every room has a view,” says Guzman recalling the home’s floor-to-ceiling views of the pool and golf course. To lend a sense of intimacy to the large room, interior designer Troy Beasley of Beasley & Henley dropped the perimeter of the ceiling to create an oval shape, and he designed a rug to mimic the ceiling detail above. “Because the room is so big, there’s a little bit of dead space in the area behind the sofa on the way to the bar that you can’t furnish,” Beasley explains. “In this particular instance, I created a zone that you had to focus on, which makes it more livable.” homeanddesign.net

219

Dining Room: The formal dining room continues with the ongoing color scheme of charcoal, gray, and gold, and looks out to the front of the home through tall glass walls — windows by Andersen Windows & Doors sourced through Florida Wood Window & Door — that effortlessly bring the outside indoors. “You don’t even have to turn a light on because the home is so light, bright, and airy,” STOCK Development Sales Associate Pamela Ferrara points out. Similar to what he did in the grand reception room, Beasley added detail to the ceiling with a square shape, panel moulding on the walls. Kitchen: “Double islands can work in two ways,” shares Beasley. “They fill a space to make it cozy, plus they create an optional eating space in the kitchen.” He worked with Ruffino Cabinetry to design the custom silver-gray cabinets surrounded by wood details and gold accents, which can be seen on the exhaust hood and in the light fixtures. Beasley chose hanging pendants from Visual Comfort to keep things soft and simple. 220

“When STOCK Development came to me, they wanted to encompass more of a panoramic view instead of the typical straight-out-the-back view because we wanted to see the lake off to the back right,” says Guzman. “I’m used to working with challenges and this house is designed and shaped to fit the unique lot, which is atypical from what we’re seeing on today’s market. This house is very narrow in the front, has angles on the back and sides and flares out, but when you look at it, it has a more unique open-rectangular concept on the inside.” STOCK Development also collaborated with landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design, who masterminded the outdoor living spaces. One of the things that Andrea enjoyed most about working on the model was the opportunity to experiment and try new design elements. “Homeowners tend to have specific goals and objectives, so they may not always have the same experimental nature in mind,” he says. “STOCK Development has been great about letting us push the envelope.” u homeanddesign.net

Master Bedroom: “The way the master bedroom is situated is just amazing,” says STOCK Development Sales Associate Pamela Ferrara. “It’s like walking into a glorious vacation spot with a private patio and water views so you almost feel like it’s not part of the house.” The custom drapes feature a color-block effect, while the pillows on the bed and the couch complement the colors and details seen throughout the room — from the black pillows that match the duvet to the lead pillow that mirrors the rug. To add an organic layer to the room, Beasley selected and installed a wood wallcovering with geometric shapes above and behind the bed. “I used that same organic feeling in the area rug. I wanted to recall that — it makes the design more interesting — to create balance,” he explains. Master Bathroom: The stunning soaking tub is the master bathroom’s focal point. Beasley placed the upright marble fragment directly behind it to highlight and contrast the bright white finish. “The detail in the master bathroom shower is stunning — a work of art,” says Wetzel. Symmetry is created with the spherical chandelier from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery placed just above the rounded ottoman, and the oversized shower that can be accessed on either side of the room harmonizes the space.

The home office features a more masculine color scheme, which includes a curvilinear metal desk in charcoal pewter that accentuates the color from the cabinetry. The Parsons chair complements the scheme of the room, and has hidden casters to make an office space feel more causal after hours. Custom drapes in a geometric print and a cowhide rug add texture and dimension. Beasley adds the Artwise world map from Leftbank Art as a way of saying, “If I could do anything for a living, I’d be a world traveler.”

224

Guest Bedroom: Located on the opposite end of the home from the master suite, the three guest bedrooms each have their own walk-in closet and full bath. Beasley added three-dimensional quality to the walls in one of the guest rooms, by applying peel-andstick wood slats that easily adhere to most surfaces. The rug is placed at an angle to enhance the space in the room, while also directing focus to the textured wall behind the bed.

A firm believer that design has the ability to enrich and change people’s lives, interior designer Troy Beasley of Beasley & Henley used his extensive knowledge of architectural detail and art to create a uniquely custom interior with organic textures and finishes, along with a balanced mix of modern lighting, ceiling designs, and wall details. “You have to be careful of how you coordinate things so shapes complement each other versus fighting over air space,” he says. “Ultimately we’re very passionate about what we do and there’s a lot of thought that goes into everything from day one,” says Matt Sellick, president of STOCK Custom Homes. “We surround ourselves with the best in the industry, from the architect and interior designer to the landscape architect. It’s all a team effort.” STOCK Development Sales Associate Pamela Ferrara adds, “As soon as you walk through the door into the grand reception room, there’s that element of surprise. Every room has a view and some type of unique feature that calls out to each person who comes in. We’ve had a lot of homeowners come through and say that they want to sell their house and buy this one. Some Quail West residents that have watched it go up over the past year are in awe of the final product. It has everything you could possibly want in a home.” n

Pool: French doors lead out to the pool and outdoor living area, which features neutral shellstone pavers — a popular choice for exterior pool decks due to their aesthetic appeal and ability to stay cool regardless of temperature. Floating stepping stones are a hybrid between landscape and hardscape, which according to Andrea, “changes your experience as you walk across, whether it’s water or the yard.” During the day, fire bowls resemble potted plants, and at night create an exotic lighting effect. Contoured in-pool chaise loungers submerged six inches below the surface of the water offer the perfect solution for staying cool in the summertime. “Our goal at the end of the day is to make all the spaces as comfortable and specific to our clients’ needs as possible,” says Andrea. “We want them to be very satisfied with the end product and excited about the home they’re living in.” Outdoor Living: This area offers abundant lounging space with faux teak furniture around an alluring linear fireplace. To add more warmth to the neutral space, Beasley installed walnut-colored wood beams in the ceiling. For a more interactive experience, Andrea situated the spa in line with the kitchen and firepit, creating a social atmosphere while optimizing views. “When people are in the spa, they can see the bar area, pool, and lake,” says Andrea. “From all directions, the spa is wonderfully positioned to access views from all angles.” Zero-corner sliding glass doors open to the lanai and pocket out of sight, providing unobstructed outside views and access for seamless indoor-outdoor living. “My favorite part of the home is the relationship between the kitchen, family room, and lanai,” Guzman shares. “You don’t know if you’re inside or outside.”

TEXTURE in the SKY 234

W

With The Colony high-rise condominium overlooking Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, the developer realized there was much more than decoration necessary to complete each unit, especially this project. A design professional was essential to ensure changes to the floor plan as well as to proposed ceilings. When Jenny Provost of K2 Design Group and her team came on board, they began assessing the standard building plan to understand the client’s desired alterations, as well as her team’s proposed ideas. “Our approach is so comprehensive that our clients can live the lives they planned without interruption,” says Provost, president and design principal of the firm she founded 26 years ago, providing full design services to include conceptual design, photo real 3D rendering, and plans for construction and execution of designs. u

Foyer: The foyer’s contemporary style is shaken up with the incorporation of time-honored patterning and features marble flooring. Dimensioned wall panels in a damask pattern are the backdrop to a stainless-steel ledge. More texture is provided by the commissioned porcelain art installations in softly lit recesses by the elevator door. Living Room: The neutral tones provide earthly grounding in this “box in the sky.” Teal, softened by silver, complements the natural colors. “From nature, we found the beautiful colors of the precious stone agates in the Concetto stone bar backsplash and counters,” explains Jenny Provost, owner and designer of K2 Design Group. A typical condominium cabinet, counter, and wine cooler bar is transformed with meticulous planning to add a beverage cooler and ice maker, and to complete the bar setting is a service bar with seating.

A concrete box becomes an enlivening experiment with texture and lighting to create an impressive condo home overlooking two bodies of water homeanddesign.net

235

Provost’s approach to projects starts by determining her clients’ wants and needs. “Then I attack it by looking at what the immovables are in the condominium, such as rain leaders, waste pipes, and structural columns,” she explains. “Once those are established, it’s a whole new canvas! By steering clear of thinking about changing objects one by one, I am able to design plans that, frankly, take the client’s breath away because the changes are so transformative.” u

Kitchen: “The design aesthetic combined with the knowledge of who my clients are (well-traveled sophisticates) led me to think about Louis Vuitton and the line’s magnificent steamer trunks,” says Provost. The island’s design and choice of materials — from K2 Design’s in-house cabinetry line — stemmed from the interest in the luxury brand’s iconic product. Provost and team suspend the gas cooktop and cabinets to visually widen the floor space, adding dramatic lighting on the textured wall. The cerulean seats from Cattelan Italia sport quilted backs. Dining Room: A myriad of triangular mirrors on the feature wall provide a shimmering effect from the reflected light above the viewthrough fireplace. Dining for eight takes place at a smoked glass table with a black nickel-finished base from Minotti, surrounded by impressively modern, slightly contoured, upholstered chairs.

Master Closet: Twin designed walk-in closets are fitted with gloss lacquered components from K2 Design. LED lights have been strategically added to the shelves and valances to provide ideal lighting. Matching floor-to-ceiling sliding panels conceal or reveal each of the closet spaces. Clever hardware selection provides that both doors on each closet open when one door is manipulated.

Master Bath: The client wanted a more open space and large shower instead of the unit’s original bathtub. A glass partition invisibly separates the shower, featuring refined white and chrome combination fixtures. “A windowless bathroom like this one needs a light color palette, and very good artificial lighting, concludes Provost. A playful pattern was added via the installation of the Coral Chandelier, which seemingly floats over the center of the room.

238

homeanddesign.net

Continuing into the master suite are dusted umber neutrals with soft teals in the bedspread and tête-à-tête seating, along with the dimensioned walls in a soft floral pattern that expresses curvilinear design, important for the flow from room to room. The ceiling boasts five overlapping panes, painted in subtly different neutral shades for dramatic emphasis. Dimmable LED accent lighting is tucked into the ceiling ledges. The use of teal as an accent color “harmonizes perfectly with the monochromatic nature of our brown-based neutrals,” explains Provost.

The homeowners were open to “what could be” rather than “what I’ve got in mind” and wanted a premium quality level with modern design. This home also has a sense of masculinity as the client’s husband was largely involved throughout the process of the 3,573 square-foot space, featuring three bedrooms, a den, and three and a half bathrooms. Ample terraces make up an additional 529 square feet, overlooking spectacular views that offer opportunities for large expanses of windows and sliding glass doors, and consequently an abundance of natural light. The condo’s Gulf-facing views are extraordinary during the day, but at night they offer another viewpoint. The building is set back from the beach, making it easy to see the sparkle from nearby buildings and bridges to barrier islands. “From this condominium’s doors, windows, and balconies, elements frame the view of twinkling lights,” describes Provost. u

homeanddesign.net

239

“To create a sophisticated home in the sky for our client, we focused a great deal on texture,” explains Provost. “Dimensional products, such as some of the panels we installed in the master bedroom, kitchen, and entry lobby elevate this design from just another concrete and drywall box to a fully developed interior design.” A dramatic entry hall commands attention through various textures combined to create its striking appearance. “Ironically, in my latest ‘battle’ — my own personal war on drywall — I decided to employ a seriously dimensioned screen made mostly from gypsum, the product that is used to make the aforementioned drywall,” says Provost. “On the original wall surface, we installed light panels produced specifically for this project. Next, a layer of art glass the client loved when presented was adhered. Finally, the gypsum screen was put in place. In our studio, we all loved the way the screen shapes look like olives, fitting since this hall leads directly to the bar.” As Provost says, colors are trendy but neutrals have “legs,” which helps her when selecting a room’s furniture and accessories. The monochromatic choices in the condo’s living room are anything but mundane. Proper blending of similar colors, along with use of varied textures, assure the look of sophisticated ambience. The sectional sofa can live on as a staple in the room. Color was added with teal accent pillows, rich, similarly colored drapes, and other accents that can evolve seamlessly over the years. u

240

homeanddesign.net

Entry Hall: Condominiums often feature a long internal hall because building designers take advantage of views around the perimeter, according to Provost. The expansive hall features gypsum screens in a curvilinear pattern with glass tile-clad LED light panels that illuminate the path as one traverses the hall. The textured theme continues in the overall design of the home with mid-century patterned wallcoverings in the ceiling recesses. Guest Bedroom: Traditional and modern design elevate each other in this guest bedroom that applies a Greek-key drapery fabric design. The traditional design in this room gives the modern side more ornamentation, while the modern side protects the traditional patterns from appearing dated. Neutral matte finishes are enhanced by the bronze and teal colors and luster in the decorative sham treatment.

The den is atypical of similar rooms and offers a serene, modern look. While great rooms are great, Provost delivered a welcoming room she refers to as a “snugglein” den. “As a nation, we’ve moved away from smaller rooms in our homes to the expanses of great rooms,” she says. “Sometimes, however, a cozy room is what is needed to feel cocooned, even hugged.” The

biggest

challenge

in

redesigning

the condo was community and building access because work hours were limited. However, design is relatively unaffected. “It’s the actual execution, the getting it done, that is frustrating in working on a condominium rather than a single family home,” concludes Provost, adding that the result was worth the effort. “These projects are long, with lots of ups and downs, but at the end of the project, I have a good relationship with my clients.” n

Guest Bedroom: Romo Fabrics’ Villa Nova line offers the perfect foil to the ubiquitous double guest room. “Queen beds back onto draperies reminiscent of giant swirly lollipops in tutti-frutti flavors setting up visitors for a fun-filled visit,” says Provost. The drapery design conceals an awkwardly placed small window while filling the room with genuinely cheery colors, all against the brown-based neutrals, again used for continuity in the overall design. Guest Bathroom: “Teal flows into turquoise waters with dancing koi fish in this mosaic tile art installation,” describes Provost. What previously was a closet in the adjacent study is transformed into a shower to make this a complete bathroom for overflow guests. A nod to curvilinear context is in the shape of the custom Corian mirror frame and Lacava toilet.

“As a nation, we’ve moved away from smaller rooms in our homes to the expanses of great rooms,” Provost says. “Sometimes, however, a cozy room is what is needed to feel cocooned, even hugged.”

Den: The woven fabric on the sofa has a great “hand”, which Provost confesses is “designer speak for the way a fabric feels to the touch.” An ethanol burner-style fireplace was added, in addition to a silk and wool rug sourced through K2 Design and a heavy drapery in teal. “The column pleats provide a more modern silhouette than yesterday’s pinched pleats.”

PERFECTLY BALANCED CONTRASTING STYLES ARE COMBINED TO CREATE AN INSPIRED AND COHESIVE HOME homeanddesign.net

Blending the styles of two different people isn’t always easy, but the team at Design West is always up for the challenge. The awardwinning interior design firm prides itself on a team approach for all projects when working with clients to bring their individual visions to life. For this custom 6,800-square-foot home in the Grey Oaks community of Naples, Design West Interior Designers Caroline Ficquette, Raquel Bloam, and Morgan Jent worked alongside founder Glenn Midnet, combining the homeowners’ personal styles of traditional and contemporary to create a warm and vibrant transitional estate that would stand the test of time. The clients had previously owned another home in the community and wanted to build their first custom house from the ground up. u

252

homeanddesign.net

Great Room, Left: The driving force of the great room is an entertainment wall flanked by pocketing slider doors that completely open up to the outdoor living space. “It was important for the clients to bring the outside in to create a seamless transition for their family when entertaining,” says Ficquette. The interior and exterior side of the wall both feature an identical floating white quartz mantle, which marries the two spaces and creates a cohesive design. The white oak wood floors from Modern Tile & Carpet were incorporated into the ceiling detail, creating a relaxed and casual touch of sophistication. Wine Room: Design West worked with the clients to custom design the temperaturecontrolled wine room with glass tile walls and centered custom display boxes. The barrel ceiling features a marble mosaic design highlighted with LED lighting and a small-scale light fixture with cascading decorative chains that layer on top of each other. “The roundness of the fixture ties in with the barrel ceiling, which contrasts beautifully with the squares and hard corners, balancing those shapes,” says Ficquette.

Previous Spread: Everything in the formal living room is designed to highlight the interesting light fixture made from coconut, where light peeks through the spaces of opaque “feathers.” Custom dark wood shelving with an off-white wallpaper background on both sides of the fireplace serves as a nice contrast against the large-scale porcelain tile wall. Design West chose a darker coffee table to keep with the tones but avoided an exact match. “Things feel more curated and put together when they aren’t matchy-matchy,” says Jent. homeanddesign.net

253

Kitchen: The clients wanted a clean and classic look in the kitchen, which features bright white cabinetry around the perimeter, while white quartz countertops offer a simple yet high impact effect. The bold blue upholstered vegan leather barstools pop against the light blue-gray backsplash from Builders Glass of Bonita. Although large in size, the light fixture — made up of five cylinders of clear glass and a polished nickel finish — doesn’t obstruct views. “It visually fills the space and satisfies your eye with composition, but it’s so light that it doesn’t weigh down the room,” shares Bloam. Dining Room: The dining room makes a statement with a bold blue niche and console that has an interweaving undulating pattern featuring inlaid nickel in the wood. The dining chairs are ostrich-patterned vegan leather with wood arms that run seamlessly into the back legs. The light fixture is made up of individually placed twisted glass arms that together create an elongated sunburst. “The clients didn’t want a traditional chandelier,” says Ficquette. “It was important for them to have something that would capture interest, and this was a nice solution to provide high impact in a new form.”

254

homeanddesign.net

255

“The clients are a wonderful couple of juxtaposed personalities and style preferences, and it was a fun challenge to pull ideas from both to make a cohesive design that would appeal to both of their lively spirits,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. “They also love to entertain and have three sons who often come to visit, so they wanted to create a home that really incorporated a lot of fun family elements into the design.” Design West partnered with Divco Custom Homes, who did the residential design and build on the project. Divco Custom Homes has been building houses in Grey Oaks for more than 30 years and was recently announced as the preferred builder in the community. The company’s design-build approach to home building provides clients with a singular focus, a single point of contact, comforting sense of teamwork, and faster delivery time. u

256

homeanddesign.net

Master Entry: The entry to the master bedroom features a porcelain marble inlay from Modern Tile & Carpet that matches the master bathroom floors. “It marries that space and gives you a taste of what’s to come,” says Jent. Design West also incorporated the wood flooring into the ceiling and added subtle wood moulding details onto the wall to create a statement. The wood bead chandelier and sea-inspired handblown glass sculpture pair perfectly with a colorful abstract piece on display from West Bank Art. “The forms of the abstract play beautifully with the marble in the floor and the vibrant colors balance the neutral tones,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. Master Bedroom: Design West added simple moulding to the walls that wrap around the master suite and introduced white oak flooring into the ceiling tray to join the two elements. All the colors in the room were pulled from the oversized lumbar pillow on the bed — from the bold red throw to the neutral sham. “The headboard is really the star of the show here,” says Ficquette. “We added a metal chrome strip into the channel tufted vertical headboard. It really jumps at you and is a little unexpected.” Master Bathroom: A zero-entry shower achieves a clean, contemporary look, along with light porcelain tiles mimicking natural marble from Modern Tile & Carpet. “The tile installers took extreme care to match up the veining in the material,” says Ficquette. The gray Carrera marble shower bench and bathroom countertops blend seamlessly with the floors. A sleek linear drain and contemporary plumbing fixtures from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery complete the shower’s stunningly simple design. To create a continuous effect, steel blue glass accent tiles from Modern Tile & Carpet were added in a thick vertical band behind the floating tub and in the shower niche.

257

Study: Comfortable and casual, the study serves as a working office and a place where the homeowners can display various treasures collected from their travels. Design West custom-designed the built-in cabinetry. The wallcovering in the center of the built-in is made from real wood cut into thin veneer material and dyed a rich navy tone. A neutral-toned leather sofa from Hancock and Moore and bunching ottomans from Bernhardt Furniture allow for reading and relaxing. “Overall, the space feels warm and inviting, and allowed the clients to display and enjoy their personal pieces that mean so much to them and bring back fond memories from past travels,” says Ficquette.

Guest Bedroom, Left: Sophisticated gray tones lend a relaxed and subdued vibe to this guest bedroom, which features applied moulding on the wall detail that repeats the vertical channel detail seen on the headboard and footboard. The bedding and pillow fabrics offer reflective properties that lend an additional element of sheen to the space. “This room feels nice and contemporary without being too over-thetop,” says Jent. Guest Bedroom, Right: To give each guest bedroom its own personality, Design West applied unique moulding wall and headboard wall details, in addition to different color schemes. This guest bedroom has an elegant and curated feel with lavender and dark purple tones that are reiterated in different ways through the drapes, bedding, and accent wall. The upholstered headboard is made from textural woven fabric with vertical channel tufting. “Whenever possible, we try to select performance fabrics that are going to wear well and offer longevity,” says Jent. 258

“The nature of construction requires a high level of expertise and understanding of both the challenges and benefits that come with building and living in this coastal environment,” says Stephen Kauffman, CEO and owner of Divco Custom Homes. “Divco Custom Homes has spent more than three decades creating magnificent homes, understanding complexities, and perfecting the workmanship and skills to embrace this special climate.” The homeowners love to travel, so it was important to have a space where they could showcase some of their finds from their travels, along with their personal collection of artwork. “They wanted to incorporate many cherished, collected art pieces which fostered such honesty in the design,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. “Splashes of their personalities are sprinkled about the residence, really making it their own.” u

Neutral and classic background materials were selected by Design West for flooring, cabinetry finishes, and bath tiles, while fun pops of color were incorporated through accent paint, fabric choices, patterned wallcovering, and carefully curated artwork and accessories. Each space has its own personality yet blends seamlessly with the rest of the home. “It is one thing to create beautiful spaces as designers; that is the easy part,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. “It is another to integrate the personalities of the inhabitants. It is beautiful seeing people living in a space that truly reflects them. It’s like you get an idea of who lives there and what they are like just by standing in the foyer. Before they appear around the corner to greet you, you feel like you know their hearts.” n

Family Room: The wall art in the family room was inspired by artwork the client had seen in a gallery, so Design West worked with an artist to create custom pieces based off the original. “The client loved the idea of the original artwork but wanted something a little different, so we made something that was perfectly custom-made for her,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. The accent pillows reflect a variety colors from the artwork, creating a marriage of pattern, color, and interest.

Guest Bedroom: The clients wanted twin beds in this guest room, but to keep it from feeling juvenile, Design West incorporated simple flat-stock mouldings on two-thirds of the wall to add texture and interest, while the bottom onethird of the wall features a custom upholstered headboard made of the same fabric as the foot and side rails. “We picked the paint color to pull the pops of blue from the bedding, as well as the custom side panels on each side of the French doors,” says Ficquette. Dark espresso wood tones on the Loring nightstand from Bernhardt Furniture and Noir Furniture Morten dresser balance the room and add a touch of subtle sophistication. Powder Bathroom: A chunky countertop in gray Carrera marble and a contemporary vessel sink elevate the powder room, which includes an accent wall in a basketweave stone pattern for a multidimensional effect. The mirror, which is made from handmade inlaid pieces that have been lacquered in blue tones, is flanked by intricate sconces with glass tubes. “The light reflects up and down from the center metal piece and you can see straight through the glass tubes, which allows you to appreciate every aspect of the tile,” say Bloam, Ficquette, and Jent. “The under-cabinet LED lighting showcases the cabinetry and creates a fun glow, which is reiterated by the sconces.”

Lanai: The outdoor living area has a dining table that comfortably seats up to 10 people, along with a large sectional accompanied by a sleek fire pit that doubles as a cocktail table. “The sectional is interesting because it feels like classic rattan furniture, but the large-scale weave adds a contemporary tone so it has an airy quality that doesn’t feel bulky,” says Bloam.

Pool: The backyard is the ultimate resortlike space with golf course views and outdoor entertainment features including an elevated infinity-edge spa, swimming pool, and shuffle board court. A basketball hoop suspended by a glass backboard at one end of the pool creates an unobstructed view, maintaining a sense of connection between the pool and outdoor living area. Fire and water bowl features create soothing and tranquil visual and sound effects.

Instead of a traditional rounded driveway, the clients opted for a clean and contemporary look with pavers in a combination of warm and cool tones that are subtle and seamless. The clients also liked the high-contrast elements of the exterior, which included darker shutters and pendant lighting in a unique propeller shape above the front door. “The really fun element of the exterior is the lighting,” says Jent. “It’s a nice, airy contrast against the blocky and linear look of the exterior.”

Front Exterior: The home’s exterior offers plenty of visual interest. “We wanted the entryway to pop with a darker front door and gables, which we mirrored on the garage doors,” says residential designer Rich Guzman, owner of R.G. Designs. “It gives the house a classic look that will only get better with time.” For the driveway, landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design created a circular design out of concrete pavers and placed little planting pockets throughout to create balance among the plethora of linear design elements. “I created a stone border around the edge of the planters to keep the mulch from washing out,” Andrea elaborates. “I opted for gray and brown shades to complement the earthy color and to conceal the shrubs.” The house also has two gumbo limbo trees on each side of the driveway that are native to the area, which the Potter Homes team worked around and protected during construction. “The gumbo limbo trees give the house a more settled look and feel,” adds Potter. 270

COASTAL CONNECTION A custom beachfront home incorporates elements of the Gulf throughout

S

Situated on the white sands of Vanderbilt Beach, this rare Gulf-front property in North Naples offers stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. Interior designer Faith Fix, founder and principal of Freestyle Interiors, worked with the owners, a retired couple from Kentucky, to turn the custom 5,500-square-foot home into their dream abode that celebrates their love for the water. Fix was introduced to the clients through residential designer Rich Guzman, owner of R.G. Designs, whom she has worked with on numerous projects in the past. According to Guzman, the property’s lot size was double that of typical beach properties, which enabled him to design a home with more rooms that have Gulf views. He also used an extensive amount of glass, particularly in the home’s two-story grand reception, in order to maximize the visibility of the Gulf. Well-known beachfront builder Bill Potter and his team at Potter Homes built the stunning residence. “I love the exterior of this home. It’s one of the best we’ve done,” exclaims Potter, the company’s founder. “Probably the most impressive feature of this home, other than the Gulf-side setting, is the expansive glass window that dominates the great room. There are no window mulls between glass panels. They are specially engineered to withstand hurricane forces.” u

271

Living Room: Spacious yet cozy, the living room’s main focal piece is a custom pecky cypress entertainment center from Ruffino Cabinetry that frames the television, family photos, and decor with rustic charm. The nickel gap ceiling features stained pecky cypress beams to match, while white oak wood floors from Real Wood Floors, installed by Floorcrafters, are seen throughout the home. “The beige recliners swivel so that you can look out at the view or turn and be a part of what is happening in the kitchen,” says Faith Fix of Freestyle Interiors.

272

Grand Reception View: Views of the Gulf and swimming pool from the grand reception are seen through expansive, oversized butted glass windows — by Andersen Windows & Doors sourced locally through Naples Lumber. “Rich did an amazing job with capturing the view, which really is the wow factor here,” says Faith Fix, owner of Freestyle Interiors.

homeanddesign.net

273

“One of the unique things about this particular home is the way we used the glass and designed the windows to actualize light,” Guzman shares. “When people walk into the grand reception, the windows are manufactured to have a seamless corner so the views are uninterrupted. Because the glass panels are limited to a certain sizing, I had to segment them, but it looks like one big piece of glass and makes you feel like you’re outside. I’ve always loved designing homes that have traditional elements but bring very contemporary ideas. This house blends those two concepts together very well.” “The clients are family oriented and enjoy having guests over, so they wanted an open flow and a fresh, comfortable interior for entertaining,” Fix says. “We incorporated various calming shades of blue throughout the interior inspired by the Gulf views. Stained cypress and oak were incorporated in different areas bringing in an organic flow of textures and warm tones. We focus on giving our clients peace of mind in that we are here to help their vision come to life.” u Kitchen: The island brings in the blue tones seen in other areas of the home, while stools with upholstered backs add an additional level of comfort so that people can sit for longer periods of time at the kitchen counter. “We designed the kitchen island more like a breakfast nook to enjoy family dining around the island and to provide seating to enjoy the various views of the open floorplan,” Fix shares. The earth-tone granite countertops and matching backsplash create a unique contrast with the white custom cabinets from Ruffino Cabinetry. Fix chose the chandelier from Arteriors Home for its organic, plant-like effect because it reminded her of “something you’d find under the sea.” Grand Reception: The grand reception boasts an impressive fireplace that spans the entire height of the wall and features a combination of two different stones: mixed white carrera and silver travertine light stone. “Because it’s a two-story space we wanted to break up the mass of the fireplace by using a linear stack stone for the body of the fireplace with a porcelain tile inset that brings in warm tones,” explains Fix. 274

homeanddesign.net

homeanddesign.net

275

Dining & Wine Room: To add warmth to the dining room, Fix brought in a wood dining table from Hickory White with comfortable fabric dining chairs by Century Furniture. A barn door glass enclosure showcases the wine cellar while adding beauty and function to the space. “The wine cellar serves as a backdrop for the dining room,” Fix points out. “They didn’t need an excessive amount of wine storage, so instead of chilling the entire room, we built in a wine fridge under the lower cabinet so they could use that space as a de-corking station.”

276

homeanddesign.net

277

Master Bedroom: “The interior is designed to focus on the water views and the architectural details,” notes Fix. Sand-toned fabrics, textured cabinetry fronts, and pops of blue add charming touches to the beachfront master suite. The lily-pad-themed art piece above the bed pulls in the greens and blues, which “really captured the whole happiness factor.”

278

homeanddesign.net

Master Bathroom: The custom his-and-her vanities by Ruffino Cabinetry have an almost floating effect due to the stone tile design gridwork that disappears underneath them. The shower’s sliding glass barn door highlights the chevron pattern marble walls and snow-white honed marble and flooring from Design Works. The freestanding slipper tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery features an elevated seat in wooden tones for lounging and comfort.

279

To further enhance the views, landscape architect Christian Andrea, owner of Architectural Land Design, brought in additional coconut palms and strategically placed them in the rear yard to complement pre-existing trees. Pocketing glass doors open directly to the pool area, where stainless steel cable railing lends a nautical touch to the exterior space, with stairs leading down to the beach. “With tree placement we’re trying to manage the view,” he says. “We landscape the sky and flank the corners of the building to soften it a bit. From the grand reception, the trees are in perfectly silhouetted vertical alignment with the curtains to offer the perfect balance so you’re not seeing too much sky or water.” As a firm that specializes in beachfront properties, Potter and his team take special care to address details that aren’t typically a concern for landlocked properties. “One of the things that we really focus on is making sure that all of the details are done right. Most of these details people don’t necessarily see, but they can appreciate that something is different, a step above,” Potter concludes. n

VIP Suite: The second-floor suite has a oversized patio and serves as a private retreat for guests. The upholstered bed, bench, and nightstands from Freestyle Interiors speak to the VIP nature of this guest room, while the stately wingback chair adds dramatic sophistication. The drapery from Casamance features a playful pattern that livens up the room and leads to the expansive patio, where Potter Homes used an aluminum frame with a cable railing system to prevent obstruction of the breathtaking second-story views.

It has developed from an isolated spot on the Gulf coast — accessible only by boat — to a sophisticated tropical resort noted for its boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, and street fairs on Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South. Old Naples is at the northern part of a peninsula that includes Aqualane Shores and Port Royal. To the west is the award-winning beach, and the City Dock on Naples Bay is to the east. PAULA BRODY ARTIST INSPIRATIONS ARTIST & DESIGN GALLERY As a mixed media artist, Paula Brody is best known for her unique paper sculptures, created with her hand-painted papers applied onto canvas in a wave-like pattern. Most popular in a myriad of blues, these original collages were inspired by the various colorations of ocean waters. Paula enjoys creating commissioned wave pattern sculptures in metallic tones of silver or gold into white. She also creates original art in soft textured neutrals that offer visual interest in a room but do not compete with other elements in decor. Paula offers workshops at Inspirations, her gallery in the Naples Art District, inspiring others to discover their own inner artist. Paula Brody is also the current president of the Naples Art District, a vibrant alliance of 70+ working artists. n Courtesy of Paula Brody Artist, Inspirations Artist & Design Gallery paulabrodyartist.com | inspirationartists.com

NAPLES KITCHEN & BATH Naples Kitchen & Bath ensures a seamless design-build process with their in-house team of designers and remodeling experts. For this project, the Naples Kitchen & Bath team worked with the homeowners to achieve an open floor plan featuring all the modern conveniences they desired. They reconfigured the main living areas to make best use of the spaces while keeping the importance of entertaining in mind. Walls were removed to install a larger kitchen island that seats six in order to accommodate the client’s big family. The living room’s exterior wall was pushed out 10 feet to increase space in the new great room. In addition to the new, larger kitchen, the dining room is now located where the old family room was, completing the open-concept feel. This timeless blend of modern, transitional design is one that will be enjoyed for many years to come. n Courtesy of Naples Kitchen & Bath napleskb.com
