Creating a home reflective of the warm and inviting personalities of its owners led to a design and build experience that the team of seasoned professionals behind this residence characterizes as a favorite. Avid golfers Lisa and Geoff Covert fell in love with the home site overlooking the 12th fairway at Mediterra. They sought out Kurtz Homes, based on a stellar reputation over the company’s 35-year history, only to learn that they had purchased the lot right next door to the personal residence of company co-founder Randy Kurtz. “It adds a bit of extra pressure living right next door to your client,” laughs Kurtz. “The good news is that we became terrific friends through the process.”

A custom designed bench in the gallery hall leads the eye to a blue stone sculpture from West Indies Home that is illuminated outside. Artwork is highlighted by delicate Swarovski crystal sconces. Wide plank white oak flooring and stacked stone in the main living area add warmth. Kellam used Barbara Barry fabrics on the sofa and the two facing armless chairs in shades of taupe and beige. Custom benches sit in front of the fireplace by Grate Fireplace & Outdoor Living. The table from Swaim ties in with the dark marble fireplace. Organic accessories maintain the coastal feel in this elegant space, while the one-of-a-kind rug and pillows add texture in subtle tones. Ceiling lights, a chandelier by Johnathan Adler, and table lamps add layers of light which, as Kellam notes, are important to the overall mood â&#x20AC;&#x201D; especially when doing a lot of entertaining.

Opposite: The adjoining master bath is an unlikely counterpart to the nubby textures and weathered wood of the master bedroom. Cool, sleek, honed limestone covers the floor and encases the tub. The walls and ceiling inset shimmer with mother-of-pearl mosaic tiles. Central to the glamour of this bath is a sparkling beaded crystal chandelier.

John Cooney, partner at Stofft Cooney Architects, came onboard simultaneously with Kurtz Homes, followed by interior designer Teri Kellam of Kellam Group Interiors. The trio aimed to create a home as hospitable as the clients who brought them together. “This floor plan is one of the most entertainment-based plans I’ve designed. From the exterior to the interior, every design decision was made with guests in mind, entertaining friends and family, and their level of comfort,” says Cooney. “Lisa had a vision for this home.”

Throughout the very open concept plan, the architectural elements act as room dividers. Stacked stone columns, ceiling detail, and various flooring treatments are used strategically to delineate the space. The wine room, for instance, is visible from the dining room, club room and living room notes Cooney. “The use of black walnut was very important to Geoff,” says Kurtz, adding, “We incorporated it into the wine room, the bourbon bar, and clubroom. The wood ceiling cantilevers out over the seating area, helping to define it.” “There is a soothing flow to this home, in the floor plan, the lighting, and the furnishings,” says Kellam. “Lisa wanted comfortable, upscale elegance. A neutral color palette of blues and grays with splashes of color achieved this look.”

Right: The long double island kitchen is designed with a working kitchen hidden from view. Wolf, Subzero and Miele appliances were all sourced from Monark Premium Appliances. At the center of the room, in contrast to the dark wood, is a delicate chandelier by Viz Glass. The dark glazed cabinetry with metal door details by Ruffino Cabinetry, follows the detail of the main living area and ceiling beams. The custom kitchen backsplash in back-painted glass from Builders Glass of Bonita, adds a zen feel to balance the dark wood. Double islands of Taj Mahal quartzite create usable work area and a core space for entertaining.

The floor plan includes a unique departure; moving the owner’s suite closest to the kitchen and main living areas while situating the guest wing at the far end of the home. “I like to get up in the morning, make the coffee, and start breakfast without disturbing my guests,” explains Lisa. Recessed lighting and architectural ceiling design define the main space. The dresser and upholstered headboard are by Swaim. Over the bed in lieu of art are mirrors by Barbara Barry. The bench at the foot of the bed is by Barbara Barry, as is the bracelet chair positioned near the window, near the chaise by Jessica Charles. The bed is situated on a soft-gray, silk area rug by Kravet.

With ample glass in the front and back of the home, the spaces are naturally lit. Each hallway, window, and room was carefully planned to capture interesting vistas from every direction. “As you experience the home, there are natural vistas and strategically created views of fire bowls, sculptures, courtyards, landscape architecture, and the golf course,” remarks Cooney. Kurtz says there was a sense of camaraderie throughout the construction of this home that ultimately yielded an award-winning residence, and a good neighbor. “It starts with the client; this was a fun client,” he adds. “They were very into the architecture and details of what they wanted out of this house. Nestled in the heart of Port Royal on a deep water lot on Morgan’s Cove, is a home in which the builder’s level of craftsmanship equals the timeless elements, making it enduring for decades to come. It is the meticulous effort of a masterful team led by design/developers John and Karen Melk of JMKM Design. “Being from Atlanta, Georgia, I envisioned a home with the same lasting appeal as the great southern homes,” says Karen Melk, who also designed the home’s interior. “We wanted a residence of enduring Anglo Caribbean architecture that was inviting, inspiring, graceful, tranquil, and most importantly comfortable for the future owners of the home.” John Cooney, partner at Stofft Cooney Architects, says the uniquely shaped waterfront lot dictated design. “This was a sleeper lot and the existing house blocked the view. As soon as we walked around back, we saw this incredible long vista down the waterway. The goal then in designing this home was to create a classical, tropical home that had an open floor plan and capitalized on all of the water views,” says Cooney.

Legno Bastone Dolce Vita Collection hardwood flooring, known for its nearly 10-inch width and long planks, begins in the grand hall and spans the entire first floor, bringing an inherent warmth and character to the home. The seagrass rug is flanked by a white lacquer cabinet to one side and a breakfront and pair of winged back chairs from the Mr. and Mrs. Howard for Sherrill Furniture. A colorful ensemble of four works of art completes the entry statement.

The Williams Group was both builder and consultant, ensuring that the level of fit and finish in the nearly eight-thousand square foot home equaled the design elements. “We were tasked to incorporate modern methods and technology with old school quality craftsmanship,” says company President Joe Beauchamp. “The end result is spectacular.” Selected were only top-quality materials with timeless appeal, including classic wide plank hardwood floors, rich marble countertops, custom built-ins, and interior architectural details. The team made those backgrounds inspiring yet neutral, with great attention paid to utilizing natural light. “From the moment you enter the grand hall, the light filters down from the second-story, setting the tone for the entire home,” says architect Cooney. With that stage set, much thought and time were given to the selection of paint colors. For the home’s five bedrooms, eight baths, study and various other living areas, Melk says she likely considered more than 500 different colors to be certain that every room is harmonious with every other. The result is a gorgeous home — even before the furniture, window treatments, accessories, and art. “The home has a feeling of calmness and lasting quality. When you walk into any of the rooms of this home it is inviting; you feel good,” says Melk.

Such was the case with the renovation of a Bay Colony condominium, reborn thanks to the efforts of the talented trio of builder Greg Brisson of BCB Homes, architect Rob Herscoe, partner at Herscoe Hajjar Architects and interior designer Julie Coleman of District Design. The three were engaged by the clients, an oil executive and his wife, who wanted a vacation home to fit themselves, as well as friends, grown children, and grandchildren.

A halo of light from the round tray ceiling and the quartz and blown-glass chandelier adds a warm glow to the room. Espresso-finished, rift-cut, white oak and iron doors by Ruffino Cabinetry lead to the elevators. Art deco-inspired metal sconces from Fine Art Lamps adorn the walls. The flooring is a wide 9-inch custom finished, artisan crafted, European white oak by Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring. Just beyond the foyer, dark wood doors inset with leather lead to the clubroom.. Previous Page: To make the most of the living room’s view of the Gulf of Mexico, Coleman chose a soothing color palette suggested by the sea and sand below. Two 120-inch Hickory Chair sofas were clad in Kravet Lux Platinum cotton, and accented with Romo and Kravet pillows in shades of taupe, grey, and blue. A Christopher Guy ottoman with Java Café wood base features Barbara Barry fabric in slate blue. The café table and matching slipper chairs, also by Christopher Guy, are covered in Robert Allen Mulhouse Rain fabric. Underfoot is a Kravet silk and wool rug in mushroom with blue tones. Metal and glass column lamps light the Java Café finished end tables with glass shelves. The natural light from the windows is filtered by custom linen panels by Marcus Williams for Stout.

The backsplash by Ceramic Matrix is a blend of polished Carrara, Thassos and Moonstone. The space is drawn together by new flooring by Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring. Bar stools from Hickory Chair are covered in cotton silk Romo fabric. The breakfast room features a Currey and Company Chanteuse chandelier of frosted crystal beads.

“Initially they only wanted to change the paint and hardware,” recalls Coleman. “But then they started talking about the best way to frame the gulf view and suddenly the project became a complete remodel.” After many on-site meetings and exchanges of ideas, the scope of the project became clear. “We were taking on Pygmalion, transforming a shabby flower girl into a fair lady,” says Herscoe. “What made the collaboration so successful,” explains Brisson, “was that each of us made a personal commitment to stretch our imaginations, act out the adage ‘leap and the net will appear,’ using all of our creativity to solve every challenge. The results are amazing and I am very proud of the work we did.”

Right: The clients were interested in capturing all light reflecting from the Gulf of Mexico just outside the master bedroom’s windows. To help accomplish this, a large two-sided mirror separates the bedroom from the master bath just behind it. Custom silver-leaf and quartz lamps hang in front. Coleman custom designed draperies in Black Edition Loma Romo fabric with sheers in Mark Alexander Nuance Moonshine by Romo. A custom king headboard is covered in Ansel Charlotte Romo Fabric. The reversible duvet and custom pillows in Kravet, Romo and Candice Olson ecru fabrics were all designed by Coleman. A Vanguard custom bench is upholstered in Kravet Ottoman Empire Crystal cotton with a satin ebony frame. The Christopher Guy Laverna lounge chair is covered in Romo Ion Pebble fabric. The adjoining table boasts an Italian silver finish with a Madagascar ebony top.

“We were dealing with a unit that was very outdated and looked trapped in the 1980s. Our clients wanted their home to be very light, less cluttered, and more open,” says Coleman. “They completely trusted our vision, which allowed us to do what we have been trained for and what we do best. We wouldn’t even let the owners see the finished product until the big reveal at the end. When we did, they were speechless and delighted.”

Left: The master bath was redesigned from a his and hers configuration to a combined space. “The owners wanted to be able to talk with each other while getting ready for their day,” Herscoe explains. The stunning redesign included some challenges for the builder. “We had to move sprinklers, duct work, and electrical,” says Brisson, “We couldn’t interfere with the plumbing stacks of the unit above or below. In order to place the mother-of-pearl banded Kohler tub from Ferguson on a marble pedestal in the center of the room, we had to create a way for the tub to fill from the ceiling. Our out-of–the-box solution works perfectly.” Double rain shower-heads are installed in the curved marble shower and Bagno Sasso sinks are of polished marble. The Oasis marble floor has gradations of gray and silver. Floating twin cabinets by Nathan Morrow for Generations Metier are topped with Canberra White marble.

The busy professionals who own this stunning Contemporary Italianate estate love the outdoors and wanted an airy home in which to entertain. They selected a lake-view site with the 16th fairway of the exclusive Grey Oaks golf course just beyond. Fully capturing the long views of the lake would require an architect’s personal attention. “We organically designed this house to this property,” says Residential Building Designer, Gabriel Orengo of Visionary Residential Designs. Orengo’s elegant solution includes a symmetrical facade and an L-shaped interior facing the lake’s long water vista. “What’s amazing to me is that this lot sat for as long as it did and nobody could see the view,” says builder Mark Smith of Harwick Homes. The foyer of the home opens into a main gallery with an owner’s wing to the right and a guest wing along the longer left side. The large entertaining room opens to an outdoor living room and ends at a semi-detached VIP guest suite which commands the most outstanding views closest to the lake. With 12-foot-tall pocketing sliding doors at the back of the home, operable windows throughout, and numerous ceiling fans, the seasonal breeze brings a phenomenal flow of air. The lack of arches or arched windows in the home emphasizes a modern, streamlined look.

Right: The parlor welcomes guests, an ideal introduction to a house whose owners say, “The view is perfect and the sight lines from all spots are ideal.” The linear gas fireplace lines up beautifully with the fire and water bowls from Grate Fireplace & Outdoor Living which frame the pool beyond the breezeway, casting gorgeous shadows in the room. Custom wide plank French white oak floors from Abby Carpet & Floor are used throughout the parlor. A Delano drum coffee table in an antique brass finish anchors the seating area of four wood-framed chairs by Century Furniture. “We created something clean, simple, stylish, comfortable, and tropical which includes all of the fine detailing from the luxury hotels where the owners stay when they travel,” says interior designer Sherri DuPont of Collins and DuPont Design Group, “a Four Seasons feel.” DuPont worked closely with Orengo and Smith from the start of the project to set ceiling height, windows and coffers, and ensure that the textures and materials would serve the clients’ needs, as well as their sophisticated, refined aesthetic. The palette of rich, dark woods, denim blues, and off whites with a variety of textures ensures a calm, coastal effect. “The house looks simple and clean, but to get the details that perfect, with no raw edges, took a variety of subcontractors all working together,” says DuPont. “Getting the team together early eliminates problems later.” The owners of the home say they had expectations for a beautiful home, but the end result so far exceeds them that they “have to hold back their enthusiasm” when talking about their new home and the entire team that created it. “It was a dream design in that we all worked together,” says Smith, “… and it shows in the final product. Seamless.”

Nestled in the Naples golf community of Quail West is a coastal transitional style model home of the highest order. The four-bedroom house embraces the green with confidence, executed by the teamwork of project manager David Childers of McGarvey Custom Homes, residential designer Rich Guzman of R.G. Designs, and interior designer Arlynn McDaniel of Freestyle Interiors. “The house is in a vernacular coastal transitional style, with its cypress-wood brackets, flat shake roof, and accented Bahamian shutters,” says Guzman, adding, “but with a twist. We used stacked stone versus traditionally smoother finishes, and darker wood stains, warming it up and giving it an earthy feel.” Inside, though the house has an airy, open floor plan, there is definitely warmth in the stained millwork, such as the custom-designed architectural screen that separates the entry foyer from the dining area. “What’s striking to me,” adds Childers, “is that you can walk through the front door and the entire house is transparent. It’s not only the floor plan, which is wide open, but you can actually see all the way through to the backyard and golf course.” Even the formal living room and casual great room are open to one another via a built-in U-shaped bar and glassed-in wine cellar. “That is quite unusual,” adds Guzman. “What would traditionally be a closed-in parlor and open great room are separated by a sense of room shapes alone.” Natural light fills the home via floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass pocket doors. Mitered windows add more ninety-degree see-through drama.

The fireplace concept was the starting point for the interior design. A beige chenille fabric by Kravet covers a pair of comfortable, cleanlined Vanguard sofas, with ivory painted feet and nail-head trim detail. They sandwich a Sherrill cocktail table, which has a travertine stone top and a bronze geometric base. The double sofa tables are from Old Biscayne and also have rectilinear taupe-hued bases, picking up on the home’s wood trim. The furniture sits upon a low pile neutral carpet with a barely-there striped pattern. To complement the coastal influences of the home, Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design utilized a variety of tropical plantings throughout the design. “With the floor plan being so open, we used ceiling details to define the different areas or ‘rooms’,” says McDaniel of the unique floating ceilings with their ambient cove lighting. “Of course, furniture layout also achieves that.”

The home’s palette is deliberately neutral — creams, beiges, and taupes — to keep the eye on ceiling details and exterior elements. “There’s a wonderful indoor-outdoor connection,” says Childers, referring to the sliding glass doors off the great room that completely open onto a spacious lanai with an outdoor kitchen and seating area. Furnishings throughout the home are elegant and clean-lined, complementing the striking architectural details. “I wanted the larger pieces to be soft and light, but with trim or accent details that popped and blended with the woodwork,” adds McDaniel.

The glamorous, mirrored Hooker night chests feature arabesque wood overlay and provide plenty of storage. Two swivel armchairs can be easily turned to enjoy the outside view. The bench with contrasting floral tapestry and solid upholstery is by Taylor King.

Left: The outdoor oasis designed by Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design, floating walkways lead to varied seating levels which provide intimate social spaces. “We incorporated an oversized water feature in the pool which is centered on the front door to provide a strong visual that extends your view to the golf course,” says Andrea. Water cascades on all four sides of the edgeless spa, conveniently located near a chaise shelf. The artistic pavers in the outdoor areas are 16-by-16-inch Shellock Ivory. A sunken seating area with fire pit from Grate Fireplace & Outdoor Living was intentionally set lower so as not to obstruct the long vistas during the day. “The details are not the details. They make the design.” The words of the late world renowned designer Charles Eames are the essence of this Hickory Beach revival. What began as a renovation to create a modern beach bungalow took on a life of its own — leaving no surface untouched and creating a visual feast. Owners Deb and Greg Petersons’ search from Sarasota to the southern Keys for a home with a view nearly led them to a beachfront condo. But, after considering the inconvenience of high-rise elevator living, they toured this four-story 30-foot wide home with spectacular multi-tiered views of the Gulf. “We looked at this house as it was before and instantly loved the views to the outside,” says owner Deb Peterson.

Left: Reviving a once mundane exterior to one with superb curb appeal meant balancing the existing structure with new architectural elements. It was important to the homeowners to keep the Florida vibe in the forefront. The fresh green color with the Bahama shutters, architectural accents, and stacked stone create a welcoming entry. The Petersons wanted to capture the views, open the floor plan, and bring in the natural light. They turned to Kevin Claes of Bucklebury Home and West Berkshire Design for the fine architectural details and interior design they desired, and that is when the real transformation began.

Right: The great room was transformed from floor to ceiling, becoming as inviting as the sunset view. Custom wide plank, white oak Madrid hardwood flooring by Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring expands the space. Neutral area rugs add texture without distraction. Inset beams added to the tongue-andgroove ceiling give the illusion of height. Two stunning, natural agate stone lamps with a contemporary polished nickel twist coordinate with stone cocktail tables from Clive Daniel Home. “Using a light color palette and lots of texture made the space interesting and fun. It was important to maintain a beachy feel, making it casual and relaxing,” says Kevin. The dining room chandelier was selected to play off the driftwood glass top dining table and contemporary white leather chairs. “We loved this fixture because the clear glass rings reminded us of the bottom of a Coke bottle. It’s a lovely piece but feels a bit understated with the deep glass and metalwork details,” he notes.

“With this home being more than twenty-five years old it had its challenges. In remodels of older homes, ceiling height is an issue as we try to create volume. I wanted to push the envelope toward a transitional look while using some traditional elements fitting for the age of the structure. I incorporated this take on modern classic in the octagonal wainscot up the staircase, and in the ceiling detail in the great room,” says Kevin. Focusing both on the interiors and outdoor living areas, the project from start to finish added a garage and pool, exercise room, cabana room, all new baths, ample comforts for family and guests, and also designed a penthouse owner’s retreat. The attention to detail in each room highlights the customization and full-service design detail of the Bucklebury brand.

Left: Light and artistic, the kitchen is now full of flavorful details. At the heart of the space, a 5-inch Quartzite countertop bridges across the custom precision-crafted stainless steel island base from West Berkshire Design. This artistic piece complements the patterned backsplash of pearlized glass tile which glistens with every sunset. White custom cabinets are embellished with warm, carved wood hardware and a vent hood over the natural gas cooktop. Decorative art glass pendants cast a soft, warm glow through their rich gold ombre finish. Stainless steel Miele appliances from Mullet’s Appliances coordinate with the stainless steel surface of the two-tiered island. Hidden from view is a Sub-Zero refrigerator from Monark Premium Appliance Co.

“This home has its luxury design in the interior architectural flair, in the bones of the home,” says Kevin, adding, “When so much attention is paid to the lasting finishes, the actual furnishings don’t make the design but instead complement it. They neatly tie it all together.” “We had a vision of what this house could be when we bought it, but this far exceeds what we imagined was possible,” beams Deb Peterson of her newly renovated home, adding, “Now the views on the inside rival the natural beauty on the outside.”

Brass accents marry the space from bedroom to bath. The vanity countertop is also full-slab porcelain thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s relatively new to the market, providing greater durability and little maintenance.Â Additionally, the vanity backsplash and shower floor have Venetian glass mini-subway tiles for a touch of glam and sparkle. The soaker tub was something the homeowner was passionate about, so Kevin designed a dramatic nook with full length drapery panels in fabric by Chivasso.

With a style perfectly suited to its location, this stunning coastalinfluenced downtown Naples home offers an open, flowing livable space. The home’s architect, Matthew Kragh of MHK Architecture & Planning in Naples, says the entire design is centered around bringing touches of the outdoors into the living spaces. When you’re walking through the house, he explains, “sometimes you can’t tell if you are inside or outside.” A roomy 4,189 square feet, the home offers two levels of open space, light, and comfort. In addition to the four generous bedrooms and bathrooms, the house features a second upstairs family room. This gave Kragh the opportunity to extend the windows in the back of house upward, creating two floors of glass for spectacular views and plenty of natural light. A high vaulted ceiling, which helps give that upstairs family room an airy feel, is a favorite feature of Claudine Leger-Wetzel, of Stock Signature Homes.

Right: The wide-open living room space mimics the floor plan of the entire home. “In this room you can see how light and airy the whole place must be,” Kragh says. Errett-Pikosky points out the linen wallpaper treatments, along with pops of color and texture that reflect the coastal landscape. Bronze Global View end tables, curvy alabaster tables, and glass Vanguard tables with metal frames, arranged around a pair of neutral Vanguard sofas, add visual interest. The Wesley Hall chairs are upholstered in a Greek key pattern. Custom art pieces adorn built-in shelves, while the Napoleon Vector 50-inch direct vent linear fireplace from Grate Fireplace & Outdoor Living offers cozy ambiance. Previous Page: Classic old Florida style white stucco gives this home a timeless quality. Architect Matt Kragh took a more playful approach to the front of the home by creating different rooflines for visual interest. The gable over the garage helps draw the eye away from the garage doors. The landscape along the front of the property guides views to the front door, while still providing privacy from the street. The planting design by Christian Andrea of Architectural Landscape Design utilized tropical plantings to maintain the coastal styling of the home. Eye-catching balcony detailing extends over the front door.

And, since a private beach is just a short walk away, each and every detail of the design focuses on paying tribute to the seaside setting. The interior design team of Rebekah Errett-Pikosky and Charlie Hansen of Clive Daniel Home, selected paint colors in blue-green hues and rich textures of the sea. Sherwin-Williams Shojii White, along with pops of Sherwin-Williams Sea Salt, feature prominently throughout the house. Textured linen walls, bed linens, curtains, rugs, and custom art pieces also reflect the soothing seascape color-palette.

The space features painted wood cabinets, glossy Pure White quartz counters, a 48-inch Dual WOLF Range, and Miele, Bosch and Sub-Zero appliances from Monark Premium Appliance Co. A large kitchen island with Rock Salt quartz countertop provides plenty of space, and is set off by plush Wesley Hall counter stools.

“We’ve also used seashells throughout the home in lighting fixtures, mirrors, and so on,” says Errett-Pikosky, referring to accents like the chandeliers, which are finely detailed with glimmering crystals and textured seashells. “The home,” explains interior designer Rebekah Errett-Pikosky, “exudes elegance and has a chic, upscale quality. But it’s also user-friendly to today’s active lifestyles.”

Above: The master bathroom not only offers a top-of-the-line Kohler shower system with four different automatic shower sprays, but imparts the feeling of visiting a luxurious spa. “Mosaic tiles detail the wall behind the mirrors, and the backdrop ceiling mimics what’s on the wall,” says Errett-Pikosky. An accent wall of that serene Sherwin Williams Sea Salt color ties it all together. An oversized window in a bathroom is unusual, she adds, but integrated shutters allow for privacy. Right: “We consider the lighting to be the jewelry in the house. We allow the designer to pick the pieces, so these are unique to the house,” explains Leger-Wetzel. The lighting is designed by Fredrick Raymond through Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Intricate fixtures, like those shown here in the master bedroom, feature shells and crystals, which add a earthy elegance and reflect the coastal location. The Sea Salt wall color by Sherwin Williams infuses the master bedroom with a tranquil touch. The soothing light blue hue also appears in the bedding and pillows. “People say they feel very relaxed in this room,” Errett-Pikosky says of the color scheme. The marine-inspired abstract piece which hangs above the Ambella Home console, further complements the room’s palette.

Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design used oversized stairs into the pool to provide a grand entry as well as seating opportunities. A storm water management system designed by J.R. Evans Engineering is incorporated into the landscape design to provide flood protection. This decorator’s dream brought to reality is one of the latest additions to the Barefoot Beach community of paradise homes. Reminiscent of a modern-day castle, the home is fortified by its four levels, spiral staircase and stepped architecture, for a truly elevated lifestyle experience. “This unique pie-shaped lot with landscaping provides a secluded oasis surrounded by mangroves on the bayside, and palms and barrier flora on the street sides,” notes Ryan Potter of Potter Homes. Jonathan Kukk of Kukk Architecture & Design adds, “It inspired us to create a transitional style tropical home, utilizing recessed stucco panels and axial aligned spaces.” Featuring four bedrooms, four full- and two half-baths, and a unique pool and spa imaginatively positioned far above the ground, the homeowner’s desire to locate the main living spaces on one level heavily influenced the design concept from the outset. Kukk crafted a floor plan that is a departure for Barefoot Beach, where most homes have the master and main spaces spread across several floors. With that mandate in mind, the second floor is comprised of the owner’s suite with a luxuriously appointed spa bathroom, gourmet chef’s kitchen, great room, dining area, half bath, lanai, and pool deck.

The spacious recreation deck is uniquely outfitted with an elevated infinity-edge pool and spa, covered lanai with fireplace, and outdoor entertainment area. The lanai is complete with retractable screens and electric shutters in case of inclement weather. The third floor offers a retreat for family or guests with three bedrooms ensuite.

The neutral color-wash on the walls and mouldings provides a perfect backdrop for dramatic accessories. A discreet staircase of red oak stained to match the flooring, complemented with parallel mouldings along the wall, leads to the main living area. The ambience is that of eclectic, modern simplicity Ââ&#x20AC;&#x201D; dramatic and unique. Shown are a layered chandelier by Mr. Brown, multi-colored metal-dipped wood sculptures from Philipps Collection, a Vanguard console anchoring coastal horizon art by Left Bank, and bronze iron sconces with textured linen half shades by Arteriors. Right: The second-floor great room has an African tribal vibe. Reclaimed woods, metals, glass, and stone combine with neutral upholstery and rugs that pop with emerald and copper. These hues repeat in the decorations and abstract paintings. The main wall is clad in a stamped porcelain wood plank tile framing a large horizontal art piece on a lift that rises to enable viewing and lowers to mask the TV. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the 12-foot angled walls bring in the outdoors. Glass sliders look south toward the pool, while windows on the right look west toward the Gulf. Lineal ceiling troughs and high-hat bulbs provide ambient lighting.

Lead project designer Alina Dolan of Collins and DuPont Design Group explains the overall interior aesthetic, “This is an organic, coastal home with a soft, contemporary, global appeal.” The architectural design crafts the movement of light within the spaces. Light and air illuminate the home via fiftysix windows and floor-to-ceiling sliders. A cloud or flex room spans the entire fourth level. The generously

The adjoining terrace gives access to the sundeck above, with its incomparable 360-degree views of the back bay water to the north, south, and east, and the Gulf to the west. State-of-the-art cosmetic and functional features of the home include impact doors and windows, intricate hardwood and tile flooring, bespoke cabinetry, and elevator access to all levels.

Right: The fourth-floor cloud room is multipurpose and completely open to the 360-degree views. The ceiling grid design — a suspended stained wood detail — immediately draws the eye upward. A chrome-based reclaimed wood Artesia cocktail table anchors the Loloi folklore rug, surrounded by an eclectic seating collection – a Bernhardt sofa and faux tusk chair, coconut shell ottomans by Jo-Liza International, and two Vanguard chairs. Mark Wilson compares the luxury model homes his company creates to living art. As sculptors, London Bay Homes’ architecture and construction teams transform a vision on paper – the floor plan – into three dimensions, always mindful of the tiniest details that define the art, and ultimately, the way people will live within the art. Interior designers then infuse the masterpiece with color and character. “Like art, a model home should be liberated from any modicum of restraint,” explains Wilson, president and CEO of the award-winning Naples homebuilder. “It should embrace all the possibilities, even push boundaries while ultimately appealing to the connoisseur – the homebuyer who recognizes this art captures exactly how they want to express their personal lifestyle.” In conceiving the Benita, a single-family villa in the boat-in-yourbackyard Portofino neighborhood at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club, the London Bay Homes team created a model that elicits wow moments as visitors explore its 3,100 square feet. It features an open great room floor plan and the infinite possibilities of an indooroutdoor lifestyle with expansive alfresco spaces, a custom pool, spa, and a stunning sculptural water feature.

The Benita’s white on ivory finishes, white shell limestone flooring, kitchen cabinetry, and walls painted Sherwin Williams Alabaster White, and white furnishings provide the backdrop for dramatic bursts of color. Romanza Interior Design’s Michael Scott selected in fabrics, artwork, and accessories in coral, cobalt, crimson, lime green, tangerine, and turquoise hues, which translate into a relaxed transitional design with a nod to the tropics, and a bolder interpretation of coastal design. “Mark is such a visionary,” says Scott. “He sees beyond color concepts, storyboards, and ideas; he sees the final design in living color. For this model, I saw the opportunity to introduce the brighter colors of Florida and the tropics. Our clients are gravitating to more color. They see it as a reflection of their lifestyle here.”

Left: Scott selected white furnishings from Tommy Bahama’s Ivory Key collection. “It captures the brand’s island-style essence,” he explains. “These pieces have a nice sculptural quality without being ornate.” Pindler solid and patterned fabrics add pops of chartreuse and raspberry to upholstery and accent pillows in the great room, with a dash of turquoise introduced in two Cyan Design ceramic lamps with matching silk shades on either side of the natural linen Taylor King sofa. A light brushed and chiseled shell stone floor from Flooring Design Group throughout the great room sets a tropical mood. “Phillip Jefferies wallcovering keeps the tropical influence going in a natural color-weave applied over a turquoise background,” Scott says of the wall treatment in the TV niche. “I offset the grass cloth with hand-colored, framed sea urchins that match the room’s main colors.” HOME & DESIGN 2017 V1

Above: With an open view of the outdoor living area, the dining room emphasizes the way this house “brings the outdoors in and the indoors outside,” says Cleger-Wetzel. The Ambella dining table provides a strong focal point to the room. Its rich, deep-toned top contrasts against a chalk-white finish applied to the table’s apron and legs. “We’ve mixed that with our dining chairs from Clive Daniel Home, which were upholstered in a velvet, deep sea glass green color, with a contrasting tape applied to the chair backs,” says Errett-Pikosky. Opposite: Birchwood floors, with a heavy-brushed texture and wood patina used throughout the home give an authentic coastal feel, even in this shiny, pristine kitchen. The space features painted wood cabinets, glossy Pure White Quartz counters, a 48-inch Dual WOLF Range, and Miele, Bosch and Subzero appliances from Monark Premium Appliance Co. A large kitchen island with Rock Salt Quartz countertop provides plenty of space, and is set off by plush Wesley Hall counter stools.

A bamboo-inspired tea cart doubles as a mobile margarita bar.

In the maintenance-free Benita, the lifestyle is enhanced by the opportunity for a private boat dock to access Miromar’s 700 acres of freshwater lake. Scott purposely limited interior architectural elements to impart a more modern aesthetic that complements the clean lines of Tommy Bahama furniture, boldly colored oversized artwork by Bob Stedman and Matthew William, accessories, and jaunty Pindler fabrics. The Benita’s ceilings boast simple trays, crown moulding and white beams that keep the eye entranced by a kaleidoscope of tropical colors.

Right: Wilson applauds Scott’s vision for the den with its Bailey writing desk by Hickory White in custom antique red and the bold modern design of a Kaleen woven area rug. “It’s so unexpected,” he explains of the colors and composition. “Most dens tend to focus on heavy use of wood and leather and project a masculine vibe,” he says. “This room is so inviting.” There is a hint of leather — the desk’s sand-toned leather wing-back chair — however the eye is more prone to take in the reds and the multicolor stripes of the lounge chair informed by the large oil-on-canvas painting. A woven blind and beige decorative chests, also from Hickory White, lend warmth to the room.

Moorings neighborhood. The five-bedroom, sixbath home has 4,345 square feet under air, but the home is not just spacious. Its clever design ensures it will suit just about everyone. “This home design is incredibly flexible. The detached third-car garage can be used as office space, art studio, mother-in-law apartment, place for boomerang college kids, nanny, or on-site health care provider,” says architect Falconer Jones, of Falconer Design Consultants. Jones worked closely with builder Matt Knauf of Knauf-Koenig Group to create the home and with C. Chad Elkins and lead designer Michael Hayes to conceptualize the interior design. Originally, Matt and his wife Gisela, co-owner of Knauf-Koenig Group, designed and built the home for themselves, but the paint had barely dried when they received an offer to buy the home — and sold it. This has happened several times with homes Knauf has built. “The homes we build are very popular. Everyone involved on this project had a vested interest in delivering a truly superior product.

All of us are consummate professionals and when you combine a builder like me, who gives his personal attention, a visionary architect, and brilliant designer, and use only the best materials in constructing and furnishing the residence, it’s no wonder lots of people love our homes as much as we do,” says Knauf. This home was designed with a coastal transitional style, using natural rather than synthetic building materials. It incorporates stained natural cypress, coral stone, and smooth stucco throughout, along with stunning custom mill and trim work to create a one-of-a-kind residence. Every project undertaken by Knauf-Koenig Group is unique to the lot on which it stands, and is customized to the buyer’s needs, explains Knauf. “This lot was very deep, more than 200 feet, and we wanted to make creative use of that space in the back.”

Rectangular Anderson 400-Series windows range from 10- to 14-feet tall throughout the residence, and are reminiscent of those found in the homes of New England whaling captains. Transom windows above many of the doors welcome plenty of natural light, which reflects off the pristine white walls. Used here and throughout the residence is custom finished Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in handcrafted artisan European white oak featuring planks 12 inches wide, and up to 12 feet in length. Interior designer Hayes aimed for a look that was practical, beautiful, and simple, adding texture through carefully chosen furnishings, in large part from Clive Daniel Home. The twin Vanguard chairs in turquoise linen with nail-head accents are tufted, making them a visually interesting vantage point. Separating those chairs is a vintage wrought iron stone-topped table. A trio of woven cane cubes suits the same purpose, and their metal frames allow them to serve as seats or hold a tray of drinks or canapés at a cocktail party. Fairfield sofas in oatmeal linen face each other, separated by a glass and metal coffee table by Noir. The fluted ceramic lamps are gold-leafed with parchment shades. The area rug is a man-made silk with a modern graphic square-within-square trellis pattern, and is set upon the hardwood floor installed by Naples Flooring Company. HOME & DESIGN 2017 V1

With cottage-style coastal charm, this Naples home is a tribute to well-designed, comfortable, yet elegant space. “Another home will never be created like this one. It’s that unique,” says Dante DiSabato of Encore Development, Naples, who hand-selected a dream team of professionals to create this gem of a home. The architect, Matt Kragh of MHK Architecture & Planning, agrees. Kragh explains that the house is a narrow 32-by-105-feet, which was challenging from a design standpoint. Even more difficult was the placement of the master bedroom on the main floor facing the quaint street out front, rather than positioned traditionally toward the back of the home. “The house has excellent curb appeal with historical integrity,” Kragh notes. “It looks like a small cottage, but it doesn’t feel like it inside.” Builder Terry Jerulle agrees the home had its challenges. “The narrow lot size required us to first build the pool and then build the concrete and block home around the pool on a very tight site. It took a lot of coordination in material delivery and storage. We were also tasked with blending the meticulous detail work in this home to add an authentic character, while providing the most modern conveniences and standards of construction. It was well worth it when you see the end result,” says Jerulle. The shotgun-style home features four bedrooms and four bathrooms, with one ensuite guest room atop the garage. Kragh placed a focus on the back of the house, the great room and upstairs loft, all of which are open and airy. The great room is the heart of the house, agree interior designers Susan Trivison and Vrinda Albrecht, with Clive Daniel Home. “It’s such an inviting, yet elegant space,” adds Trivison.

Jerulle Construction added to the unique, historical authenticity of the house by using stucco rather than traditional siding. “Each one of the planks was made on the jobsite, especially for this house,” says Terry Jerulle. A meandering architectural walkway leading to the home is focused on a large feature window. “The front yard is landscaped in a way that offers visual interest from the street while still providing privacy,” says Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design. It just works,” explains Albrecht. She adds that the location is as inspiring as the house. Considering the residence sits four blocks from the beach and steps from the heartbeat of Naples’ Fifth Avenue, the charm and livability quotient skyrockets.

High ceilings and the addition of the loft add plenty of light to the space. “We like to point out the niche part of the loft that bumps out,” adds Albrecht, of the unique feature.

Painted nickel gap walls, a unique recessed wood ceiling, whitewashed flooring, and a custom built-in china cabinet add to the rustic charm. A modern chandelier illuminates the dining vignette.

Harbourside Custom Homes’ Casa Arianna model in Talis Park takes luxury livability to new heights. Soaring ceilings are defined by layered trays, glossy crown moulding, subtle lighting, and embellished with artistic treatments like faux-finishing, and wallpaper inserts. They are Harbourside President Frank Jenkins’ favorite element of the Italian Renaissance design. “The tall ceilings in the entry and great room, that start at 14 feet and pop up to 16 feet in the trays, really open up the space. We use the height to add a row of glass-front kitchen cabinets and to take the shelving unit on the entertainment wall all the way up. They really give the space a grand feel,” says Jenkins. Harbourside has completed several homes of this design, and Jenkins attributes the popularity of the four-bedroom, five-bath home to the “extras” crafted into the 3,935 square feet of space. “Visitors love the extra den in the front of the home for the many uses it can provide, such as an additional study, hobby room, or TV room. The separate third car garage with the private entry to the home also catches their attention. The wet bar, located between the dining room and the kitchen, offers extra seating,” adds Jenkins. Owner Greg Weber of South Florida Architecture agrees that the flexibility of the design is a key feature, saying, “In our experience, most families and even empty-nest couples buying a home of this size prefer four bedrooms over three. The reasons, of course, vary. In addition to using this space for their children or guests, homeowners also use it for exercise rooms, office space, or as a retreat to care for aging parents.” Interior designers Leslie Gebert and Sheila Corasaniti of Vogue Interiors filled the open spaces with traditional elements that lend a casual elegance to the ambiance. They used a neutral color scheme throughout the home, building on a base of ivory and taupe, accenting the design with soft, warm lavender. Different layers of texture create interest.

“We have worked with Harbourside for over 20 years, and know them to be extremely careful about wanting all of the furnishings to be comfortable and livable, so homeowners could move right in,” explains Gebert.
