COASTAL I CONTEMPORARY I TRANSITIONAL I TRADITIONAL “Contemporary” Interior Design is, literally, what is being created and produced right now. It is not cold as some may perceive. It is dynamic, clean yet classic and it’s constantly changing. It can be quite eclectic for this reason. Contemporary style isn’t tied down to one specific style it’s of the moment and borrows bits and pieces from a variety of styles and eras.

President’s letter

Much of the work that goes into creating our annual Resource Guide happens around Thanksgiving. With that in mind, I’d like to give thanks for what you hold in your hands. First to our loyal readers. Because you turn to Home & Design as your primary resource for building, buying, and improving beautiful homes, it allows us to feature the finest homes and introduce you to the absolute best companies that provide the quality products and services you need. Next, thank you to our advertisers. Your beautiful work and generous support make the magazine possible. And I’d be remiss not thanking the team of talented people that work long hours during the holidays to produce our magazine, our website, and our events. Your talents and dedication often go unnoticed and unrecognized, but they are indeed much appreciated. This year you will find Home & Design involved in some very exciting events, such as the single-site Parade of Homes® being held at Stock Development’s Quail West January 29-31 and February 5-7, 2016. We are again the magazine sponsor of the 60th annual House & Garden Tour presented by the Naples Garden Club February 6, 2016. Celebrity designer, HGTV star, and author of American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat, Thom Filicia will be collaborating with local partners Cinnabar Design, Waterside Builders, MHK Architecture & Planning, and International Design Source, to bring you the 2016 Home & Design Signature Home. It will be featured in our Design Issue and working with Thom will help make this the most noteworthy Signature Home to date. In that same issue, we will be featuring the Ronald McDonald House that is being rejuvenated by a team of 20 local designers, each funding the redesign of a room. Headed by New York designer Suzanne Costa, who has roots in Naples, and supported by Kravet, Inc., this will provide a much-needed remodel for a very special cause. And at last, the long-awaited return of the Luxury Home Show, which will be held at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort’s Grand Pavillion January 8 & 9, 2016. Over 100 of the finest luxury home builders, architects, designers, home improvement and home furnishing companies will be everything imaginable for your home. Our sponsors include The Ronto Group, Naples Reserve, John R. Wood Realtors®, MHK Architecture & Planning, Bucklebury Home, International Design Source, Naples White House Luxury Real Estate, KW Properties, Florida Weekly, and the Collier Buidling Industry Association. Thank you one and all for helping to make 2016 Home & Design’s greatest year ever!

What goes into making a great magazine? A great team! Home & Design magazine is staffed by a talented team dedicated to making the best magazine possible. After 16 years in the Southwest Florida market, Home & Design magazine would like to thank the wonderful full-time staff who have made this all possible. Those who produce this beautiful magazine deserve some special recognition and this year we would like you to meet them! Jennifer Estrada – Jennifer brings more than 15 years of Real Estate Sales and Marketing along with vitality, professionalism, and warmth, and a mindset of service and advocacy to her work with our clients. Jennifer’s primary focus is to build awareness about our brand, and develop and maintain relationships with current and past clients. Jennifer grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and has lived in Naples since 1999. She enjoys spending time with her two children on the beach and winter skiing in Colorado. Beleena Pullam – Beleena is the Operations Manager at Home & Design magazine, facilitating all communications between our clientele and the magazine. Beleena brings an extensive background in business development — by the time she was 35, she had already coordinated the opening of 9 casual restaurants. When she’s not working at Home & Design, she likes to spend time with her family and watch the Naples High School Band perform on Friday nights, and is a devoted wife and mother. Daniela Ronchetti – Daniela is a full charged bookkeeper and licensed tax preparer. She has been taking care of all the accounting activities of Home & Design magazine for a decade, since she moved to Naples from Milan, Italy. When she is not working on balancing the books and reconciling the accounts, she enjoys all outdoor activities, traveling, and cooking; but what she loves most is spending time with her family and her nieces Michelle and Valentina. Channing Spano – From a stint in the accounting department, to Office Manager, to becoming the Production Coordinator for the Home & Design Show and Community Profile videos, Channing has been working in and around Home & Design magazine for 16 years, and is now the Acting Editor. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, horseback riding, or hanging out with Tanner, her Corgi/Staffordshire Terrier mix. Jennifer Betterman – Jennifer has handled the graphic design and production of Home & Design magazine since 2008, and she also works closely with many of the advertisers to create their ads through her company, Creative Design & Print. She moved from West Virginia to Florida in 1990 after graduating from West Virginia University. She now lives peacefully in Bonita Springs with her husband Dave and their crazy beagle.

In an area as sophisticated and rich in history as Olde Naples, it is a monumental feat for a house to stand out as unique while still remaining perfectly suited to its surroundings; this house accomplishes such a feat. Sitting a few short blocks from the beach this beautiful creation from Matthew Kragh of MHK Architecture & Planning, Jay and Mike Bowerman of Big Island Builders, and designer Kira Krümm of Kira Krümm International Design is an idyllic blend of the fun and flare of a modern beach house with the comfort and subtlety of a coastal cottage. “Every aspect of this distinctive home was created exclusively for our clients. The collaboration called for the area’s best talent and a very dedicated team,” explains Krümm. Speaking to the active involvement of the homeowners Krümm adds, “Incorporating unique materials was an important part of making this property special as our clients were on a quest for the extraordinary.” The front of the house is iconic of old Florida, yet still unique and fresh. The landscaping is simple, employing, as Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design Inc, explains, “a natural approach utilizing meandering beds and plantings that complement the architecture.” The architecture to which Andrea makes reference is that of Kragh’s, and the house is emblematic of his style. He explains the house is “a striking example of work within our wheelhouse and a respect of the past. This home defines Olde Naples with its massing, material palette and texture.” The prominently featured brackets, illustrative of Kragh’s designs, along with the faux gable beams of the entryway, are lit by two inch LED’s creating an impressively dramatic effect. Brothers Jay and Mike Bowerman of Big Island Builders take great pride in their work on these elements, with Jay explaining, “Craftsmanship is very important to us; the fit and finish of each material and texture is our signature. The architecture of this home really put our unique skill set on display.” This would not be achievable without a high level of Photograph by Randall Perry Photography

collaboration and customization, but as Mike states, “We thrive off of that! What is the point of a custom builder, if you can’t customize?” The living room is where Kira Krümm’s design style is most pronounced, utilizing a mix of natural materials, glass, and metal. The expert use of a neutral color palettte is iconic of her designs, with a splash of a more pronounced accent color—here a cerulean blue. The blue accents used

throughout the living room were inspired by the materials incorporated in the outdoor living area and the stunning water wall feature visible through the sliding doors. The tile for this waterfall was carefully sought out and selected by the homeowner for its color and basket weave-like texture that produces a pleasant sound and rippling flow. The sofa and armchairs are custom-made with a special stain and wear resistant suede, and the sofa is designed with a unique inlaid wood detail that coordinates with the driftwood finished wood frame of the armchairs. The kitchen is designed to be both highly functional and conducive to social gatherings. The island countertop is cast concrete and inlaid with hand-selected nautical and abalone shells. The stunning backsplash brings together multiple design elements present in the room through its use of glass and metal tiles. The kitchen features a mix of premium integrated appliances ranging from Sub-Zero and Jenn-Air inside the house, and Lynx Professional series in the outdoor kitchen, all of which were sourced from Ferguson Kitchen, Bath & Lighting Gallery. “The appliances were all specified to be flush with the custom cabinetry. The Jenn-Air gas cooktop features one of the few that has six burners which come in handy for entertaining,” states Gregory Bennett, Builder Sales, Ferguson. The dining room is perfect for entertaining with an extension dining table that seats ten, made of reclaimed oak (using recycled materials is a passion of Krümm’s). stain alludes to cottage chic. Above the dining table hang three Hubbardton Forge light orbs, two of a larger size and one smaller, cleverly combined to create an elongated fixture. In these two rooms, one can

see the state-of-the-art LED lighting system that is present throughout the house and the exterior. The integrated whole home lighting system is comprised of two inch LEDs, each with a square trim, and runs through a dimming control system, allowing for preset lifestyle-based lighting schemes. “This home represents the future of lighting. LEDs have many benefits including long life, less wattage, less heat, smaller aperture, and they are dimmable. My goal is to facilitate and support the designer’s vision throughout the selection process,” states Lynne Stambouly of the Specialty Lighting Division of Lighting First, who was selected as the expert Lighting Consultant. The master bedroom is a superbly balanced room. The Phillip Jeffries wall coverings incorporated in the patina cork wall behind the bed grounds the room, while the copper metallic textured ceiling recesses, adding depth and richness. The bed illustrates the homeowner’s personal style. “We traveled to find special, unique things and during our trips we came upon this bedroom set that our client fell in love with, and the room evolved from there,” explained Keri Linden, Project Manager, Kira Krümm International Design. The master bathroom further illustrates Krümm’s expert use of materials. The glass tile mosaic stripe that runs the center of the room and up the wall behind the bathtub, as well as behind the wall sconces, adds visual diversity and the perception of texture to the room. The second master bedroom, or “flex suite,” provides the lady and gentleman of the house the luxury of equal personal spaces when desired. The furnishings show a great balance between the earthy elements of the wood and the accents of polished nickel. These features, when taken with the smoked glass flute pendant lights, render a contemporary casual retreat. The detached cabana is connected to the main house by a breezeway making it perfect for guest accommodations and entertaining. Just off the pool, and with access to the fire pit, it is the ideal private retreat for visitors. With warm neutral hues and a blend of textures, this space complements the home’s relaxed, beach cottage décor, yet stands out with a mix of bold, coastal, and industrial inspired accents. The room also contains a wet bar with refrigeration and a full bathroom for the comfort of guests.

which create the space and feeling for a particular area. The site was quite gracious, and allowed us to create some wonderful social spaces, and some great focal features like a wet wall waterfall, and still allowed us to have a comfortable yard,” explains Landscape Architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design. The rear yard design included an edgeless spa floating in the pool, accessible by floating step stones, a chaise sun shelf, and expanded stairs that provide great seating opportunities. “The exterior living space provides a unique blend of courtyard style home and conventional rear yard design. The outdoor living room is focused on the pool, while the remaining yard opens up to large patios and a fire table environment for an open view of the sky,” concludes Andrea.

Clean lines blend with warm oak finishes and polished nickel accents to create a modern, inviting second master bedroom. The metallic woven recessed ceiling accent adds depth. Linen-colored washable bedding in various textures, and smoked glass flute pendants create a contemporary, casual retreat. Â

Photograph by Giovanni Photography “It takes a village to build a house of this caliber and have it turn out as beautifully as it did,” as Stambouly so aptly states. This house was designed to be the owner’s dream home, a serene beach house escape that is both comfortable and elegant. “This home was a labor of love for the homeowners and the dream team assembled. We all worked together to manifest this vision. It remains an unforgettable experience,” concludes Krümm. A sentiment that could not be better stated, as this is a home that could not be more beautifully crafted.

PRATO IN TALIS PARK

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

Situated on the 14th fairway of one of just two Greg Norman/Pete Dye designed courses in the world, the Prato neighborhood in Kitson & Partners’ Talis Park offered an ideal setting for the 2015 Golf Dream House. This collaborative project celebrates the game and those who play it by creating a grand estate residence designed to meet golfers’ every want and whim within a premier golfing community. “We were delighted to partner with Golf Magazine to create the 2015 Golf Dream House,” says John Hillman, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, Kitson & Partners. “The design/build team of Design West, Weber Design Group, and BCBE Construction took full advantage of the spectacular view corridors and built a home any golfer would certainly enjoy. At the same time, they honored the elegant yet casual New Fashioned aesthetic that is one of Talis Park’s most prominent hallmarks,” adds Hillman. Design West President and CEO Glenn Midnet brings the “live-large, trend-setting” attitude associated with California to Southwest Florida. “The coastal California look was our inspiration,” says Midnet, “then we took that curbside appeal from the exterior all the way through the interior, so it’s upscale, roomy, and easy to enjoy.” The exterior of the home, capitalizing on a generous 125’ x 175’ lot, showcases thin corbel brackets that support a sleek, simple façade. The steep pitched roof design with flat tile adds texture to the exterior without overwhelming the eye. Carrie Horner of BCBE Construction offers details about the exterior. “The exterior windows are by Anderson with clear energy efficient, insulated impact glass, and [the front door] is customized metal, which will protect the home against hurricane winds and the rogue golf ball.” “The layout of this home lends itself to entertaining guests with the open floor plan, inviting wet bar, large kitchen, game room, cabana bar, and spacious outdoor living area,” describes Horner. Bill Weber, President of Weber Design Group, with offices in both Naples and North Palm Beach, had the emerging markets in mind when planning this project. “The design intent of this home was to capture a fresh and unique product of clean lines and coastal charm within a golf course environment that would be a winner with the projected home buyers in mind. Careful attention was given to site placement, setting the home as far back as possible in order to maximize the golf course visibility and maintain the stately façade,” describes Weber.

Limb offers additional insight into the plan for the kitchen, “We created a high contrast look with a black walnut finish against a crisp white finish on the cabinetry.” Three pendant chains in a champagne finish suspend elegant, glass, cylinder light fixtures over a white, Thassos, infinity-edge, backlit island counter top. Contributing to the kitchen’s aesthetics and function, the appliances from Design Studio by Raymond create a cook’s haven. According to Bob Bibbee, “The key feature of the kitchen is the Miele Pro Range, housing a large Master Chef convection oven with steam assistance and a smaller Master Chef oven with microwave.” The Miele refrigerator previews new, “remote-vision” monitoring technology that directly alerts the service outfitters of any problems. Finally, a built-in and plumbed coffee system keeps the kitchen streamlined and modern. The luxurious master bedroom suite offers the perfect retreat from the open entertaining areas. Juxtaposing the raw wood look with refined, white, lacquered furniture from Ralph Lauren Home, the bedroom marries nature and elegance. Matching chandeliers drop down from decorated ceilings and Legacy Linen bedding complement the white leather inset on the headboard, which is trimmed with nickel nail head detailing.

Stately and minimalistic, the bathroom features Carrara marble. The inset fireplace by Grate Fireplace and the Kohler VibrAcoustic tub are centerpieces to this palatial space. “We chose the Ortal fireplace for the master bathroom because the frameless design, simplicity, and wide variety of interior media make it the perfect focal point for any décor,” explains Diane Key of Grate Fireplace in Ft. Myers. The Design West team layers texture in the bathroom through the woven glass cloth in between the ceiling beams and the fine-art light fixture in a glass and nickel finish. Double access to the shower creates a fluid path through this lavish master suite. Upstairs, in what may be the X-factor for this home, the men’s clubroom is revealed. Conceived as the ultimate “man cave” game room, this level is complete with a pub-style bar, a pool table, three televisions, and access to a gorgeous sun deck. Furnishings remain true to its masculine theme with fully tufted Thom Filicia crocodile leather couches, a chunky cocktail table of reclaimed timbers, and an oversized ribbed rug in slate blue silk. Finally, as Midnet asserts, “The thought process on the lanai was to create something like a 19th hole with the outdoor cabana bar in the backyard.” The cabana offers multiple seating areas, including poolside chairs, a wet

family affair and everyone had a say on this contemporary transitional home,” states Kurt Otto of Environetics & EKO Development. At the epicenter of this creative family is the matriarch, Danielle Otto of Danielle Designs, who meticulously selected every background, color, product, and furnishing after traveling the country in search of the perfect combination of products. Every one on this project mentions Danielle first as the driving force behind the creative process. “I wanted an open, airy floor plan, so even with no lights on, you feel like the home is flooded with light. I also wanted this home to feel welcoming, yet elegant and contemporary. We have a big family, and we love to entertain, but we want functionality,” describes Danielle. The partnership was complete when builder Jim Sorbara “joined the family,” according to Danielle. “Jim really has gone beyond the call of duty, spending whatever time it takes to get this right and to partner with our family on realizing our vision,” adds Danielle. The chosing of the wide plank wood floors throughout the home was the foundation for the entire design aesthetic of the home. Danielle states that she searched for the ‘perfect’ floor for over two years until she met Arturo Guido. Using a finish called St. Moritz, the wide widths and long lengths create a floor with less seams and more panache. The floor is a part of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring’s recently launched European Elegance line. “The way we work with our clients is like working with a tailor. We ask how they live, what the vision is, and then we custom tailor accordingly for fit, tone and texture,” states Arturo Guido, president of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring. “Our goal was to create the true embodiment of a luxurious, carefree, and casual lifestyle with an array of stylish and contemporary touches to coordinate and accentuate all of the furnishings and accessories of the home,” adds Guido. Many of the furnishings were sourced right here in Southwest Florida, like the Casa Italia chairs and barstools

in the family’s double island kitchen. “The small scale armchair on the chrome base with genuine saddle leather back embossed with crocodile effect was selected in a special silver color,” says Ozzie Pancaro, owner, Casa Italia. “Spectacular design showing off the back, side, and front of chair with a unique view from each perspective,” states Pancaro. The kitchen island top and counters are the craftsmanship of Juan Kisic of Real Rock Company. “With this material, a very intricate process is used to mitre the two adjoining edges at 45 degree angles. It is a beautiful result, yet the process must be handled with tremendous precision,” describes Kisic. A translucent natural quartz ‘Cristallo Extra’ from Brazil used for the island countertop is backlit and resembles ice. “It has a lot of depth because of the crackled look,” describes Jimmy Watts of United Materials Inc. (UMI) “It actually resembles that beautiful grain look of an ice skating rink surface,” adds Watts. According to kitchen designer, Richard Kahaly, President, Gulf Atlantic Design Group, “The use of one inch thick white painted doors, together with tall “cabinet walls” to the ceiling, help anchor the large kitchen while retaining a clean modern look.” The contrasting black island adds a dramatic touch of color and accentuates the beautiful quartz countertop. “To maintain a clean look, most of the cabinetry has touch latch hardware, eliminating the need for visible handles. The walk-in pantry integrates beautifully into the cabinetry by utilizing a matching tall cabinet door and concealed hinges,” describes Kahaly. Even the kitchen appliances are superlative. “In this business, we always talk about the “wow” factor. When Danielle first came into the Monark showroom, I knew we were going to put the “sizzle” in this kitchen. I never realized how much though,” comments Steve Schneider, a sales selection consultant at Monark Premium Appliance Company. “I knew the cooking was important to Danielle because we decided on all the best product lines, including the Wolf cooking products, and the new Thermador columns that allow custom panels to be fully integrated. Also, all of the dishwashers have custom panel fronts, so it really is a kitchen with a classic look,” adds Schneider. In the dining room, Kisic incorporated the Island Stone cladding series in Rice White marble provided by Gina Gilberto of Ceramic Matrix for the

Many members of the Otto family were involved in the 15K-square-foot home which took almost two years to design and build. “My brother is a fantastic architect, and he knew exactly what our family wanted,” describes Keith Otto. “I knew he was the one to draw this house.”

The creative process of Danielle selecting every accessory extended to the rugs as well. Chris Smith of Designers’ Rug Center assisted in the selection of two key rugs in the master bedroom and the family sitting room. “Both are from Jaipur, India and are hand-knotted. The pink rug in the sitting room is an antique Heriz design using contemporary colors. And the gray rug in the master is woven by one of India’s finest weavers featuring various levels of silk in the pile,” describes Smith. Danielle’s mother and father will be living in the adjoining guest home to be completed next month. Her mother Cecelia Colombo delighted in being involved throughout the design of this spectacular family compound. “My mom actually designed some of the custom furniture in the home. She has incredible taste,” raves Danielle. Well, it appears the apple has not fallen far from the tree.

CONDOMINIUM IN GULF SHORE H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

161

The moment you enter the LeBlanc home, a feeling of peace washes over you. Soft colors, elegant fabrics, and an abundance of natural light create a tranquil setting matched by the serenity of the Gulf of Mexico visible through the large windows. A fully remodeled unit, the home is a testament to what good design and quality materials can do to transform a space. When Mark Fanta, Principal Designer at MP Interiors, was approached by the homeowners with the plan to remodel their Gulf Shore condominium, he began by choosing elements that spoke to their love of French style. In the great room the bleached hardwood floors, shades of whites, and pale blue fabrics give a light and airy feel and set the tone for the interior. Though the colors and styles in the home are soft, Fanta was able to use them in a bold way. “By making sure there were subtle variations in shades and textures, the sea of whites and pale blues comes across as rich and tranquil, allowing each room to have depth, he explains.

Framed mirrors reflect light throughout the space in the dining room. A table and chairs with a French Country flair fit the room perfectly. The chairs, from Bulent Bolgan of European Traditions, mimic the soft colors of the drapes and chandelier above the table. Instead of removing the wall between the great room and kitchen, a built in hutch with glass doors was created to give the homeowners more storage.

French bergere chairs from a Paris flea market were whitewashed and upholstered in a creamy white fabric. Other elegant pieces with a French Country flair, including the globe floor light, were sourced from Bulent Bolgan of European Traditions.

Because of the remodel, Fanta and Kemp were able to rework the kitchen so it now accommodates the most active chef. A five-burner stove, pot filler, apron sink, and large refrigerator were chosen for their functionality and their style. Unique sconces and teardrop chandeliers add a glamorous touch. A local craftsman was commissioned to make the custom cabinets. “To be pulled off correctly, the inserts have to be

would be a fresh start in this residence, there were things we wanted to prioritize. Ceiling heights, natural light, and space were the main areas we focused on,” explains Richard Kemp, owner of Naples Build. “One thing people won’t notice when

important in condominiums. The quartzite counters in Azul Cielo were sourced from Juan Kisic of the Real Rock Company. The elegant stone was picked by Kisic and the homeowner and has a soft, Ogee edge. Fabric used on the custom banquette is a ticking inspired by menswear fabric-tweed by Ralph Lauren Home at MP Interiors. The curved moldings were difficult to execute and are another example of the craftsmanship in this home. The curved bench was chosen because it keeps the room open. Another space-creating feature is the built-in hutch with glass doors for displaying important crystal and china. Fanta and the homeowners made smart storage decisions in the kitchen. “Many people are so focused on an open concept they sacrifice usable space. We could have taken down this wall to open the kitchen to the great room but we opted to keep it in and transform it into useful, and beautiful, cabinets.” Framed mirrors in the dining room reflect light throughout the space, and table and chairs with a French Country flair fit the room perfectly. The dining room chairs, from Bulent Bolgan of European Traditions, mimic the soft colors of the drapes and chandelier above the table. The master retreat is a tranquil space that uses the fabrics and colors from the main rooms of the home. Fanta chose the pieces in the room for their design appeal. “For example, the custom-tufted headboard in the master bedroom was designed to add dimension and sophistication.” The Kerry swing arm lamps in polished silver on either side of the headboard are by Ralph Lauren Home. The bed is flanked by a set of carved chest of drawers from European Traditions and tall, leaded glass mirrors. “The client wanted the bathrooms to feel like she was in the five star French hotel where she and her husband often stay,” explains Fanta. Calacatta marble covers the floor, counters, and shower walls in the master bath. The marble, again sourced by Juan Kisic of the Real Rock Company, features a decorative inlay. The custom cabinets provided a challenge as they are placed directly against the shower glass. “Doing this meant there would be no room for fillers. All our measurements needed to be precise and the manufacturer had to be capable of handling the task,” explains Kemp.

From the materials to the design execution, everything in the master bath is reminiscent of the five star hotel the homeowners enjoy staying in when they visit France.

In the shower itself, there are important details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Fanta and Kemp were insistent that the small things not be overlooked. First, the shower is now in the old tub area. By taking the tub out and reworking the space, a large shower with enough room for double rain shower heads was created. The tile layout was designed to ensure valves and shower heads would be placed in the middle of a marble tile. “While it’s not something most people will notice, and it took a lot of planning on our end, laying the marble in this way gives the bathroom an unmistakable high end feel,” explains Fanta. With elements of Scandinavian Gustavian design and the richness of a French château, this Naples home has become an extension of the homeowners’ happy memories and a love of all things French.

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

This impressive six-bedroom, nine-bath home flanking Alligator Lake in Old Naples is the product of boutique developer Salem Homes. Tropical and modern design elements inspired this design from the architecture to the furnishings. However, this expansive home still maintains a cozy atmosphere. “It’s an easy home to live in, not too overwhelming in its scope and size,” states G.O. Thornhill of Salem Homes. Developers are always on the lookout for large plots of land when deciding on a neighborhood for a speculative home. This particular property was very rare, at 100’ x 255’ of waterfront land and was a legacy passed down many generations from a Florida family. “I always want my projects to anticipate the most discriminating custom home buyer, so I use only the finest features and products. From the Lutron lighting system to the Ludowici clay roof, this home features the highest construction quality,” concludes Thornhill. Builder Anthony DelDuca of BBA Development, Salem’s collaborator on many successful home projects, concurs. “No expense was spared on this home. It was built to last many lifetimes. The state-of-the-art construction methods and products, including the Lennox XC 25 air conditioning system with PureAir filtering technology (and an efficiency rating of up to 26 SEER) make this home unparalleled. “The air quality inside this home is that of a hospital operating room,” describes DelDuca. The solid concrete construction includes the second floor as well, and the 8,100 square feet under air reveals a home that has a fully integrated ELAN g! entertainment and control system with fingertip touch screen panels. The four mahogany garage door bays, and the integrated landscape lighting system, show that the quality begins on the outside. Designer Jeffrey Fisher of Jeffrey Fisher Home worked on this project from the initial selections and is responsible for all the furnishings and decorative elements. Unique pieces, such as the seven-panel art installation in the foyer called “Flight of the Butterflies” created by artist Juan Carlos Collada make Fisher’s design stand out. “This piece sets an elegant tone from the moment you open the front door. It really is awe-inspiring in person,” raves Fisher. The use of repetitive elements, such as the 12” wide custom-designed plank wood floor from Legno Bastone creates fluid movement from room to room. Arturo Guido, President, Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, partnered with Fisher to bring to life the vision of “personal resort living” by creating a floor flavored with a coastal casual elegance. “The design was a thrill. It was creative and fanciful in some areas because Legno Bastone European artisans were given the leeway to create based on the client’s vision as well as their wants and needs,” expresses Guido. A prominently placed custom orchid arrangement on the center table welcomes you into the space. “We use only the most lifelike flowers,” explains Saundra Riccardelli with Sweetgrass

Designs. “[We] always strive to create the most original and stylish creations to be the perfect accompaniment to any room.” A pair of fiddle leaf fig trees, also from Sweetgrass Designs, flank the entrance and provide a nod to the current trend of this popular indoor/outdoor tree. Low-back chairs paired with a streamlined lacquered table give the dining room a clean look. The waterscape artwork and glass urns used as the centerpiece add subtle color to the space, as do the patterned drapery panels framing the window. The three-tiered chandelier, made of woven coco beads, adds a natural element to the contemporary coastal scheme. Double islands in sleek walnut, wrapped in marble, add drama to this kitchen while the white shaker-style cabinets give the room an understated grace. Four ivory bone and antique brass chandeliers placed over the double islands add a touch of formality and compliment Fisher’s vision without overpowering the room. Gourmet Miele appliances, including a coffee system, Master Chef Combi steam oven, wine storage, paneled refrigerator and dishwasher supplied by Design Studio by Raymond make this kitchen complete. Another distinctive product is the Euro-Wall folding door separating the great room from the outdoor living area. “This product is ideal for making indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly from one to the other and allowing the look of the outdoors to come inside even when doors are closed,” explains Jimmy Martin of Design Studio by Raymond. The living room is perfect for gracious living whether entertaining family and friends or privately enjoying the view of the lush landscaping as owners-in-residence. The seating plan is maximized with an oversized sectional, paprika colored linen swivel chairs and antique bronze frame leather chairs. “The room was designed to function just as well for two people as it does ten,” describes Fisher. To tie in the bold abstract art, pillows made with Robert Allen’s colorful embroidered linen fabric were used. Anchoring either side of the room are sculptural floor lamps that add soft lighting to the room after walking home from sunset at the beach. In the master bedroom, an understated color palette of natural materials married with a vibrant patterned upholstered bed give this master bedroom the panache Fisher’s interiors are known for. Traversing linen window treatments hanging from natural wood poles, shagreen nightstands and architectural wood-framed chairs are the luxurious yet understated details that help to create a five-star residential retreat. The impressive photograph over the bed of a pool in Tuscany by Paul Alexander equals the breathtaking views the homeowners see as they look out onto their resort-like pool and professionally landscaped backyard. The tranquil, timeless master bathroom continues Fisher’s design of understated luxury. “I’m not drawn to flashy finishes or materials that date themselves in five years,” Fisher states. True to his vision, he chose cabinetry constructed from walnut

and wrapped them waterfall-style in marble. The sconces handcrafted in walnut and capped with linen shades are installed directly onto the mirror. Selecting the right materials is crucial in keeping the level of design consistent. Gina Gilberto of Ceramic Matrix worked with Fisher to ensure that the tile selections would be a tribute to the overall design while still maintaining their own character. A leatherfinished marble used in several of the bathrooms adds a rich texture to these spaces, while products like a wood basket-weave mosaic bring in an unexpected pattern. Being able to collaborate with designers to make their visions come to fruition is one of the things Gilberto enjoys so much about this process. “I love working with designers, the exchange of creative ideas, the receptiveness to new products,” adds Gilberto. Whether you’re an invited guest or the owner of this spectacular property, everyone appreciates a room to escape and cozy up in. And that’s exactly what Fisher created when he transformed the den on the east side of the house. “I love to take at least one room in every house I design and create a layered space for intimate gatherings,” says Fisher. Though it’s only a small factor in the entire scheme, Fisher started his design process with a Jim Thompson linen print on the windows and worked out from there. Grasscloth wall covering in the most updated shade of teal, a large linen sofa, comfy caned chairs covered in a fresh stripe and a woven rope coffee table all work together to achieve Fisher’s end goal: a room worthy of adult conversation. “I love when guestrooms are lively yet sophisticated, so guests have a special experience in a room that continually reminds them of being on holiday,” says Fisher. In this bedroom guests are treated to a bold Ikat print combining lemongrass green, blue and purple on the window treatments and the bed covering. The king size bed is upholstered in a solid green fabric and the artwork ties it all together.

Cream, gold and copper are a succulent mix in the master bedroom. The cork wall behind the bed grounds the room while the ceiling recesses, finished in a beautiful Phillip Jefferies textured copper wall covering, adding depth and interest.

Mimicking aspects of the interiors and incorporating them into the exterior design is something Jerry Hunt with Jerry Neal Designs worked diligently to accomplish when designing a custom poolside planter for this home. This one-of-a-kind piece, completed by Hunt in only four days, separates the outdoor kitchen from the pool area. “The poolside planter was made from a wood called Cumaru, commonly referred to as Brazilian Teak. Completed, it weighed in at a breathtaking 325 pounds, describes Hunt. From the flooring to the window treatments, each element pulls together to give this lavish home a resortstyle design that is original and inspired. It embodies the style of Old Naples while still bringing its own character to the neighborhood.

Port Royal has long since been known as one of the most prestigious addresses in Naples, and this home built by BCB Homes is one of the most regal in this enclave. The challenge for this expansive estate included creating a place that was supremely comfortable and inviting regardless of its square footage. BCB Homes, Inc. was tapped to tackle the tear down, and they skillfully built the home that suited the resident couple perfectly. “Our building process is efficient and enjoyable, minimizing stress for our customers, allowing them to be very personally involved with every aspect,” explains BCB Homes’ President and CEO, Joe Smallwood. “We are great at technical proficiency and very focused on the performance of the building, making certain it is sustainable and water resistant, as well as beautiful.” The homeowners chose Joy Tribout for the interior design, and one of the focal points they chose together is a brilliant orange accent color throughout. The hue appears on the accent pillows on the living room’s swivel chairs and picks up the color of the abstract print above the fireplace, done by a local Naples’ artist. Chairs, clad in a navy and white geometric print, flank a glass-topped table by Century Furniture. The Oscar de la Renta chest (also designed for Century Furniture) fits in a side alcove and is the piece around which the entire design scheme was built. One of the most dramatic features in the center atrium of this home is the multi-panel sky lights perched above the foyer area. “It is a spectacular detail that we put in several projects that always delights the homeowner,” describes Barbie Kellam, Sales and Marketing Director of BCB Homes, Inc. The transitional kitchen, by owner and senior designer of AlliKristé Fine Cabinetry, Bob Ostrowski, makes a nod towards the owners’ original traditional plan. He uses rich ebony in the leaded glass frame above the bar and tall highboy cabinet, contrasting the stark white cabinetry, and keeping the ambiance warm.

Ostrowski, who has been in the cabinet business since the 1980’s, has seen tastes change. “Less is more now and design has become crisper and cleaner,” describes Ostrowski, “There is beauty in simplicity.” A raffia wall, the only one with wallpaper in the residence, flames orange under the skylights of the coffered ceiling of the hall leading to several of the five en-suite guest rooms, each sporting the painted name of one of Port Royal’s coves above the door. Jeffrey Harrell, who drew this home for the client, and ensured that each room has a distinctive ceiling. The walls pick up the color of the Century dining chairs with coral embroidered white linen backs and tangerine velvet seats, which surround the walnut table. A vintage look chandelier with large crystals lights the scene, aided by hand-blown glass fish lamps on the stone-topped Century credenza. Signature blue and white Ralph Lauren stripes festoon the window treatments of one of the guest rooms. The color scheme is picked up on the custom fabric adorning the Century chair and bench, the latter upholstered in Sunbrella fabric to accommodate wet bathing suits. The blanket cover and bed skirt are by Peacock Alley. Custom chandeliers by Whitman grace the foyer to the master bath. The magnificent outdoor living area is highlighted by royal blue spots and dramatic uplighting of the majestic palms, designed by Edward Westwood of GardenBleu Design. The idea was to create a resort like setting while maintaining a comfortable feeling that could be enjoyed on a daily basis. The clients wanted drama, but were very interested in the outdoor spaces working as a daily part of their outdoor lifestyle. The built-in fire table and surround seating was conceived as a transition space between the terrace off the lanai and the lower swimming pool. This space is surrounded by water and fountains, but feels like an extension of the outdoor living space, rather than a ‘pool side’ space. Shallow water actually wraps around the cushioned seating and flows down stepped water terraces to the swimming pool below. “The colors of the outdoor fabrics and finish materials extend from the interior spaces to the point that we had window boxes

Signature blue and white Ralph Lauren Home striped drapes set the color scheme of this guest room where a bench, thoughtfully upholstered in Sunbrella fabric, awaits guests’ wet bathing suits. made to mimic the fabric of interior chairs. This attention to detail can only happen when the landscape architect is intimately involved with the other designers and has an on-going relationship with the owners,” describes Westwood. A sculptural handrail to the spa was added to create a simple arch leading out into the pool, where the spa is located. Ivy-covered walls and Date palms add the classical touches that fit well with the architecture. “We ended up adding clusters of ‘sunbrellas’ that attach directly to the shallow water areas or sun shelves of the pool so that groupings of chairs can be arranged under colorful shade fabric umbrellas. This allows for sitting in a shaded lounge chair on a pool shelf while taking in incredible views of Port Royal waterways,” concludes Westwood. The whole outdoor area feels like luxury and shows you really can build a resort right at home, although different than a resort in that in fits completely into the owner’s lifestyle and design preferences. Probably the most unique feature of this home is the indoor/outdoor room. This room has pocketing lift and slide doors that can close off the room to be airconditioned space when the weather is not so nice. Or it can be opened up and used in conjunction with the pool and boat. “The homeowners are equipped with a pizza oven, a large bar with a Viking grill, a refrigerator, and a warming drawer. The beautiful blue Vetrazzo countertop ties the indoor design into this space and continues the elegant flow of the home,” adds Smallwood. The view itself is enough to take one’s breath away. That is if the home itself doesn’t leave you breathless already.

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

Grand homes of sensational design are not uncommon across many of South Florida’s finer neighborhoods, yet the desire to astound and surprise remains at the heart of those who create these masterpieces. The bar rises ever higher, as homeowners look for that something special to catch their eye. This gorgeous West Indies inspired home exceeds expectations by providing a tropical twist on traditional design. It’s just this type of challenge that energizes John Cooney, principal at Stofft Cooney Architects. “This home is a great example of what we’re producing from a stylistic and quality perspective,” says Cooney. “It flows wonderfully while meeting the custom requirements of the client,” adds Cooney. Offering solitary distinction while still meeting specific criteria is no small task. It takes a dedicated team of professionals working in unison to make the magic. With an all concrete construction on both floors, including concrete arches, lanai, and pool deck, this home was built to the highest construction quality and standards. “The client had a vision and we, along with interior designers and other professionals, helped bring that to life,” says builder Michael Diamond, President, Diamond Custom Homes. The result is a property that not only offers the allure of a tropical winter escape, but also allows the home to stand out as something significant and special among other showpieces of architectural artistry. Inside the home, authentic detailing indicative to West Indies style is complimented by a flair for the dramatic. The home’s dining room, which is open to the kitchen and great room, reveals the striking contrast between dark, ebony stained box beams and a white painted ceiling. Two impressive, climate controlled, custom wine rooms flank an impressive chandelier, designed by Pacifica Interior Design and fabricated by a custom metal worker. The custom fixture incorporates three tiers of sapphire blue Waterford cut crystal stemware, acting in place of traditional hanging crystals. These glasses are actually removable and usable and can then be rehung on the light fixture, similar to on overhead wine rack. “We believe good design is not about trends or rules, but creating enduring beauty that enhances one’s daily life,” says Lusia Shafran of Pacifica Interior Design. Another impressive chandelier is perched above the elegantly appointed dining room table. A large Ralph Lauren Home equestrian-style lighting fixture, in polished nickel and black leather creates additional visual interest up high. The designers opted for a custom mural depicting an island plantation landscape in multiple shades of blue colored pencil to give the dining room that ‘je ne sais quoi.’

The splendor of this custom kitchen with bright white cabinetry will entice all who enter to hone their culinary talents. The glass and metal diamond shaped backsplash repeats many of the blue tones. The integration of the television in that area was designed by the builder Diamond Custom Homes. Opposite: The home’s spacious dining room invites entertaining, while the jewel of the space, two climate controlled wine cellars, adorn the backdrop in a most distinctive manner.

In the foyer, stately mahogany doors with milk glass beckon guests into a world of luxury. Chic marble flooring laid on the diagonal combine with a coffered tray ceiling with multiple crown molding to emphasize impact. An Asian inspired alter table designed by Pacifica Interior Design and huge pediment topped mirror grace the entrance. However, it is the grand, custom-created chinoiserie cabinet, finished in a deep, warm blue with antique silver painted scenes, which attracts the eye. Illustrating an image of what today’s market portrays as desirable, the kitchen is crisp and clean as opposed to heavy with moldings and profiles. Designed as a team effort between designer Marcus Jelley and Pacifica Interior Design, this kitchen features inset shaker cabinets in a bright white that adds an airy feel to the room. Accentuated by the occasional use of glass-fronted cabinetry, the design features a rich ebony stain. Adding an element of the unusual, the television above the range was a special request of the owner and is protected by a glass cover.

Of course, state-of-the-art appliances are a must in a home of this caliber, “We pride ourselves on elevating the way you specify and purchase home appliances,” says Bruce Zachritz of Monark Premium Appliance Company. With unrivaled selection, the trusted advisors at Monark take great satisfaction in creating inspired spaces where builders can set plans in motion, designers can bring their visions to life and homeowners can dream. The warm and inviting great room continues the home’s design theme and features a built-in, ebony entertainment center. Mixing classic, timeless style with a touch of modern aestheticism ultimately provides a home that feels timeless and classic, but without feeling old-fashioned. French doors open to a large outdoor lanai with scenic views of the picturesque lake and golf course. In the luxurious master bath, multiple beams with crown molding painted in a radiant white, lend an incandescent glow to the contemporary space. The glimmer of the room’s sparkling chandelier and wall sconces sweep one’s thoughts away from the worries of the day and off to more peaceful places. Always in search of something to provide a little extra impact, the room’s shower features a decorative glass mosaic by Mandala sourced from Ceramic Matrix. “We specialize in personalized treatment and offer the latest and greatest decorative tile accents,” says showroom manager Gina Gilberto. The more formal master bedroom emphasizes a contrast between dark wood floors and a magnificent multiple tray ceiling with crown moldings, again in a brilliant white. Wainscot adds just the right element of romanticism to this gorgeous room. A custom designed and manufactured four-poster bed by Pacifica Interior Design is the focal point. The seating area, with a deep blue velvet sofa and white linen swivel lounge chairs, offers homeowners a comfortable sanctuary to watch television or simply relax while getting ready for a night out.

Restful and romantic, the home’s master suite provides an oasis from the cares of the world – with a luxurious seating area, two large walk-in closets and elegant his and her separate bathrooms. A custom designed and manufactured four-poster bed by Pacifica Interior Design is the focal point. Opposite: Life’s complications slowly dissolve as one is invited to slip into this free-standing tub for a restorative bubble bath. The incandescent glow of this bright white room reminds us of the power of peace and purity.

272

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

The powder room offers singular characteristics that arouse interest and admiration. The cabinet custom designed by Pacifica Interior Design, finished in a warm brown, houses an Asian-style blue and white porcelain vessel sink with dragon motif. In this home, even the smallest details have been attended to with care. Designers chose to have the walls faux textured and finished in a crinkled silver blue, adding a luster that reflects the light from the sconces and the silver-and-glass bead flush-mounted ceiling fixture. The end result is a wonderful balance of materials, finishes, drama and elegance in a room that will regularly be used by guests. In the more formal study, built-in cabinetry offers a dramatic flair and is lit by sconces, gallery lights, and LED lighting that highlights the various accessories. Dark hardwood floors add richness to the space. However, the focal point is the artwork named, ‘Winged Victory’ cleverly incorporating nine meticulously placed colored prints mounted behind plexiglass. The study also features a beautiful Ralph Lauren Home rug and elegant writing desk. Another multi-coffered ceiling maintains the level of elegance to which the homeowners have grown accustomed. Since outdoor living is a mainstay of the ultimate Florida lifestyle, landscape architects have the unique challenge of balancing several different elements. “We try to play off of the architect’s inspiration and incorporate the client’s lifestyle needs, while ultimately combining functionality and usability to complete the design,” says Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design. This home features a symmetrical pool with vanishing edge, detached edgeless spa and wet wall--all balanced by a trellis on the opposite side. The result is simply spectacular.

This coastal contemporary home was designed by architect Matthew Kragh, who worked with Dreamhouses of Old Naples to create a light-filled residence.

The British West Indies architectural style of this lovely home, built by BCB Homes, Inc., makes use of a balcony and graceful portico, as well as many French doors to capture gentle breezes off the cove on which the property is located in Naples’ fabled Port Royal neighborhood.

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

A shared vision of dazzling light is what inspired Karen and Bruce Larson when they began to plan their latest home in Old Naples. Co-owners of Dreamhouses of Old Naples, Bruce speaks for the pair when he says, “We are always looking for openness and flow and, in this home, we wanted as much light coming in as possible.” The partners’ signature look is ever-present in the coastal cotemporary style of the four bedroom, five-and-a-half bath residence designed by architect Matthew Kragh, President of MHK Architecture & Planning. “The sharp stucco lines, undulating rooflines, accented by the dark roof, and what is probably the coolest outdoor living area we have ever put together, make this home a little gem,” describes Kragh. Karen Larson, who designed the interior of the home with Katie Frank, Owner and President of St-Tropez Home, made great use of a simple palette of neutral colors and crystals, as is found in the living room where smoked glass globes shine down on white twin leather sofas and grey suede basket chairs. “The collaboration between Karen Larson and myself results in a sophisticated, clean-line, contemporary look which is exactly what Naples is looking for today,” describes Frank. Much of the art was sourced at Bay Design Store. The first is a series of three botanical prints by British artist Amanda Ross shown on the left in the hall leading from the living room. The others are two sea fans mounted on white grass cloth in shadowbox frames by Jamie Deitrich. “We are thrilled be part of Karen’s beautiful home project. Bay Design Store has a fabulous collection of art available, from gorgeous original oils to signed limitededition prints. In addition, we have a wide range of unique accessories, lighting, and fine furniture,” describes Susan Bay, Owner of Bay Design Store. The showstopper of the home is the unique glass-enclosed office lit by a custom cube chandelier. “We wanted to have no interruption in the light coming in from outside,” explains Bruce. Sliding barn doors of glass were used in the creation of this surprising room, and they presented some challenges for the builder, who enjoyed rising to the occasion. “We searched out an artisan to cut the glass to the perfect specifications, and we think the room and the rest of the house, with all of its highest end finishes, came out beautifully,” says Mike Assaad, Owner of Waterside Builders, Inc. “We always stay true to the architect’s vision, and we were very happy to be involved in creating this lovely home.” The glow from the dining room’s custom chandelier is reflected in the dark framed mirror, Starfire glass shelves, slit faced ½ inch marble “Sugar Cube” backsplash and “Taj Mahal” quartzite buffet top on a Hyland Custom Cabinetry smoked oak cabinet. A walnut ebony-stained table and chairs of brushed cotton chairs accented with nail head details, invites enlightened dinner conversation. No rug mars the beauty of the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, part of the European Elegance Line, named “St. Moritz.” H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

The handcrafted floor was skillfully laid by experienced craftsmen from Naples Flooring Company, a premier dealer in Naples that exclusively showcases a Legno Bastone Gallery. “We are passionate about our oak flooring and proud of our work. We always go the extra mile to ensure that the customers are fully satisfied with the whole process—from supplying the material to fitting the oak flooring,” says Cristian Longo, Founder and Owner of Naples Flooring with wife Laurie Longo. Arturo Guido, President, Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring adds, “To us, the house inspired visions of great gatherings of friends and family and the finish of this fine floor is, like a fine wine, another way to enjoy life.” The streamlined kitchen benefits from the subdued beauty of flat slab doors and door front “Driftwood” cabinetry by Hyland Custom Cabinetry. Uplit floating shelves, another Karen Larson signature, take the place of upper cabinets and help continue the clean lines and low profile of the kitchen. Chris Hylemon, Director of Hyland Custom Cabinetry enjoyed the slight differences from other projects in which he has been involved. “This kitchen puts a more contemporary spin on the coastal cottage feel,” he says. “Yet it is laid out beautifully and is incredibly functional.” That function is provided courtesy of Ferguson Enterprises who installed the latest in SubZero/Wolf appliances. These included, “The convection steam oven, one of the hottest ideas on the market,” explains Ferguson’s Gregory Bennett. “It is more efficient than gas and steam is and much healthier, as no oils are needed.” Bennett also points out that all appliances are flush against the cabinetry, adding to the sleek look, as does the minimalist range hood and industrial chrome pendant lights illuminating the island. The master bedroom is a study in restful neutrals and textures. Accordion pleated linen-wrapped nightstands flank a French bed upholstered in buff linen. The sisal rug and a contemporary chair, whose footrest sports men’s suiting in a soft grey flannel, serve as the perfect complement to the room’s neutral balanced vibe.

They allow us to explore the renewed Old Florida-inspired architecture in the heart of Old Naples, with modern elements of elegant water features, and lush landscape and to merge the old and the new in the same place. When you visit these homes, it’s like being in the past and the present at the same time,” concludes Andrea.

Realtor Andrew Arreola of Gulf Coast International Properties took on the task of marketing the home. “The demographic of Naples is changing, and the younger buyers don’t want the heavy ornate look that was once so popular, yet some developers aren’t willing to change their formula,” he says. “But the Larsons bring a creative influence and are willing to take things in a different direction. Their homes reflect the clean feel, continuous flow, and outdoor living access that homebuyers want today. It is no wonder this home was put under contract within only a few weeks. It was an exciting residence to represent.” “We created a joyful house and one that is very welcoming,” Karen Larson shares. “It is just begging for an intimate gathering of good friends. We are sure the buyers will find living in it a delightful experience.”

The idea behind the Residences at Mercato was to bring the charm of an Old Naples home to the Mercato setting, specifically the courtyard style home. The challenge that was undertaken was to achieve a flowing courtyard home design without the opportunity for an alley-loaded configuration. According to Architect Matthew Kragh, owner of MHK Architecture & Planning, “The solution to the puzzle was to create a truly interactive great room concept. “ The Le Jardin model, at 3,250 square feet under air and four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, is a natural example of the great room concept. “The idea of the great room is the place where “everything” happens. This space includes a gracious and cleverly placed kitchen with a large functional island,” says Kragh. The room is balanced by an open dining area and living space with a focal wall. The entire view-oriented wall of the space opens to the exterior where the pool area becomes an integral part of the great room environment. The house literally lives inside-out. The lavish two story ceilings give the home a lofty feeling with communicating spaces. The pool stretches its wet wall and climbs up the adjacent privacy wall creating an outdoor room with incredible privacy. This house lives so inside-out that the pool deck area will actually become part of the homes circulation pattern. Le Jardin is a stunning example of our Florida style of living and a true testament to the talents of the Lutgert’s well-rounded and intuitive team. The houses give a tremendous level of sophistication that will cater to the lover of the urban dwelling right here in Naples.

It is a rare treat for a designer to work with clients that give creative free reign. Laura Parsons, owner of Pure Design, found herself in this position with the new owners of a home in Port Royal. Their visual direction was given over lunch at Old Collier Golf Club. They wanted their new home to have a similar look and feel as the club. As the design developed, it turned to a lighter, more modern and glamorous version, yet retained the comfort and classic elegance of the club. The architecture was inspired to meet the needs of a family with an appreciation for beauty, taste, and elegance, while maintaining an active and full lifestyle. As you enter the Port Royal Neighborhood, a canopy of foliage embraces the boulevard. Designed by Don Stevenson, President Don Stevenson Design and Lotus Architecture, this home’s extraordinary architecture abounds throughout taking every advantage of its gorgeous waterfront view. “The expansive glass window elements were designed to take full advantage of nature’s color to bring light accent views to every part of the home. This spacious home affords a sense of individual freedom and privacy, while an abundance of amenities within the home promote an active lifestyle,” describes Stevenson. This subdued Tuscan style marries classic beauty with all the latest home technology and comforts. The home has a full range of textures including the finest stone, wood, and marble to accentuate design features such as the custom ceilings, floors, and trims. Custom designed stone details trim the exterior of the home in exquisite style.

Adds Stevenson, “The layout is a spacious open floor plan with large master suite and dramatic bath with walk-in closets. The expansive radius glass window walls create a view that takes your breath away.” Teresa Gilger and Liz Brown, interior designers at Pure Design, collaborated with Parsons on this project. “We were fortunate to have the clients complete trust with our selections. It is a beautifully built spec home, our job was to transform it to a comfortable yet chic family retreat. We began with changing the exterior color from a dull gold and repainted it a creamy white,” concurred Gilger and Brown. Custom wood shutters painted a soft, vapor blue replaced brown shutters. All of the dark espresso stained woodwork was painted a warm white, this color was also used on the walls. Bevolo copper lanterns and coach lights replaced the builder spec lighting. Knowing the clients wanted a fresh take on a classic look, Pure Design set out to lighten and brighten, while remaining elegant and sophisticated. “We redesigned the

We removed thick shelving flanking the fireplace so we could accommodate a lovely pair of Austrian chests that we procured for our clients” states Brown. Gorgeous fabrics in tones of cornflower blue and peridot green complement the expansive oil painting by Belgian artist Luc Leestemaker. “It was great fun to incorporate antiques such as the Biedermeier chests, circa1825, along with Harvey Probber footstools from 1950, which we had reupholstered a labradorite blue,” says Parsons. Custom down-filled sofa and club chairs paired with carved, gilded armchairs look chic yet welcoming in the sun-filled parlor. Linking it all together is a stunning art nouveau silk rug.. According to Jim Freeman, design consultant of Busby Cabinets, “when we were designing the kitchen cabinetry we intended to hit that fine line of ‘transitional.’ We encompassed traditional detailing, but in a clean relatively sleek way, using a clean lined stainless hood, free floating stainless shelves, minimal moldings, and some simple geometries in the door configuration.” “In the master bath, the intent was to make this space more elegant with the longer length doors and curved details in front of glass. The transitional look takes traditional styling, with a clean more tailored look,” adds Freeman. An elegant table and chairs by Dessin Fournier grace the dining room. The curved shape of the chairs is echoed by the curves of the tray ceiling.

The decorative ceiling in the parlor and dining room were both accented by a misty blue color and applied silver leaf panels. “The silver leaf reflects a soft glow from the chandeliers,” states the lady of the home. “Drawing from factory cues, the Industrial Chic trend celebrates functional form with designs that complement both masculine and feminine spaces. Strong materials are offset by smooth curves, muted tones, and softer textures,” states showroom manager Henry Jeannin of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery in Naples. Missing caption

The couples’ main residence is in Colorado. Their mountain home is rather masculine, and so the husband wanted their Florida home to be whatever his wife wanted. She requested a feminine guest bedroom for her friends. “This room is like a fairytale. We had a good time creating this ladylike guest bedroom complete with pale pink papered walls, antique French chandelier and pink mohair throws,” notes Parsons. The tastefully designed pool, spa, and terraced deck area create a perfect setting to enjoy the tranquility of Gulf Coast living. The rear exterior of the home is true oasis for the couple,” states Stevenson.

H&D RESOURCE GUIDE

Nestled in the heart of downtown Naples at the crossroads of 5th Avenue and Tin City, Mangrove Bay on Goodlette-Frank Road is exceptionally well-situated. The tagline of “saving the exceptional for last,” refers to it being sited on the last remaining significant waterfront property for residential development in Olde Naples. The development team at Mangrove Bay, namely Jon Rubinton, has developed myriad multi-million dollar communities and constructed hundreds of luxury custom homes in prestigious neighborhoods. This appears to be the jewel in their crown. Architect Matthew Kragh, president of MHK Architecture & Planning was tapped to provide his signature ‘cottage chic’ look to the 2,600 square foot to over 4,000 square foot residences available to homeowners priced from approximately $2.63M. “One of my favorite architects Alvar Aalto once said, ‘Building art is a synthesis of life in materialized form. We should try to bring in under the same hat not a splintered way of thinking, but all in harmony together.’ Harmony is the way I would describe these homes in one word,” states Kragh. The design process included putting together puzzle pieces in a complex way to come up with a simple solution. The end result became an elegant flowing plan that brings the exterior Naples Bay experience inside the house. Adds Kragh, “The home is deceiving from the street presence as the second floor detached guest house soars over the garage area. Once in the main house, a flowing one-story configuration is peeled away one layer at a time.” The Amelia III model, a four bed, four-and-a-half bath waterfront residence, is approximately 3,640 square feet of living space and enjoys a private entry guest home above the garage. As with all the models shown at Mangrove, the interior design is skillfully executed by Freestyle Interiors. Faith Fix, ASID, principal of Freestyle Interiors has enjoyed being part of the Mangrove project team and providing design direction on the interiors of such a unique project. “The architectural styling of the homes provides much inspiration for varied design concepts which means we can really let our creative juices flow in working with future homeowners in the customization of their interiors,” states Fix. Senior designer of Freestyle Interiors Julie Roy brought the Amelia III to life. “I would call this look, ‘upscale cottage’ because even though it has a casual, coastal feel, the interior architecture and detailing includes intricate trim details and a grand two-story beamed, tongue-and-groove ceiling in the great room. According to Roy, “it’s luxurious, yet still feels approachable.” One deciding design element in the living room was a striped Kravet fabric chosen for the built-in upholstered bench seat cushions flanking the brick, whitewashed fireplace. “The wonderful combination of navy, teal, and sand colors in that fabric set the tone for the palette I used throughout,” says Roy. amount of fully customizable selections and design options, make each home unique,” states Stephen Ruffino, vice president of Ruffino Cabinetry. One of the most charming elements in the kitchen is the perfection of the paint color. Roy selected Sherwin Williams ‘Upward’ for all the cabinetry to pick up the grayish blue graining of the marble. “I love this blue. It really set the tone for the project, and I refer back to it in other areas of the project,” says Roy. The ten-foot long island features a stunning marble top, which is called the Bianco Raffaello, and was sourced at United Materials, Inc. UMI provided all the hard surfaces and countertops throughout the Amelia, including the Pompeii Quartz Barcelona in the laundry room. The vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom suite features painted tongue-and-groove wood and beams perched above the four-post bed from Hickory White. The soft cream and pale blue fabrics are carried from the bed and draperies to the cozy built-in window seat. All the bedding comes from the designer’s favorite custom source in Massachusetts named Matouk, a new line being carried by Freestyle Interiors. The rugs are sourced from nationally renowned NYC-based Stark Carpet. The main paint color Roy used throughout is ‘Pure White’ by Sherwin Williams, and it provides a crisp backdrop for the fabrics and furnishings she selected and overall, lends to the cottage feel of Amelia III model. The developer’s affinity for Vermont actually inspired a good many of Roy’s choices. According to Amy Jimenez, Naples Showroom Manager of Kravet, Inc., “Julie Roy and her team at Freestyle Interiors have captured the relaxed ease of Florida living. The serene color palette travels from room to room and crisp architectural finishes provide a backdrop

The team at Freestyle Interiors has impeccable taste and their attention to detail and innate understanding of the comforts of home is unparalleled.” Architect Kragh summarizes, “The kitchen, dining, and great room areas create a cinematic approach to one of the best waterway and mangrove-lined views in town. The master suite is well-organized, flowing, and promotes activity to the exterior with its exterior-oriented reading nook, and the great room includes incredible vaulted ceilings perpendicular to the view direction to give the space a cottage-like ambience. “ It is a landscape architect’s dream to be involved with designing a waterfront community in the heart of Naples,” describes Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design. “Mangrove Bay focuses on Old Florida inspired architecture, quaint courtyards, and rain gardens. It has a nostalgic essence in a modern era. The community is a modern day reflection of a nostalgic past. It exhibits a feeling of a simpler era, with its brick lined streets and sidewalks, its boardwalks and docks where boating and fishing are only a few steps away,” concludes Andrea.
