HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

Calling this a dramatic transformation might be an understatement. This beautiful home was revived by the award-winning design team of Rhett Josey and Wilfredo Emanuel. According to Josey, the design partnership on this home was as magical as the transformation itself. The kitchen was updated by refinishing the existing cabinetry in white with a contrasting gray island. The tops were replaced with Cambria in a dramatic, veined pattern with sparkling embedded crystals. Narrow tower cabinets were removed on the left and the wall finished with paved Abalone tile. The bar-height counter was brought down to counter height for a more modern and open feel. The kitchen remodel was completed with the addition of professional-grade stainless steel appliances. Wall-to-wall carpet in the living room was replaced with a marble that complements that in the foyer, creating a flow from one area to the next, and allowing a continuous lineof-sight to the water outside. Color-blocked, double-height draperies showcase the dramatic two-story living room. All the walls and trim are painted in Sherwin-Williams Shoji White to create a light, bright, and airy background. “Paint is our great friend when updating and unifying a home,” states Josey. All of the furnishings were replaced with crisp, tailored pieces. Aquamarine accent colors were chosen for the master bedroom. The ceiling and rug anchor the room and give it the punch of color it needed. Carpeting was replaced with marble. All furnishings were replaced with pieces that share a clean and simpler design. Natural silk was applied to the alcove above the bed. The flooring in the family room was replaced with French white oak with cathedral graining. The pass-through counter height brings an open cohesiveness to the kitchen and family room. The same Cambria in the kitchen is used at the bar. Soft goods were replaced with more inviting and comfortable pieces; simple linen panels accentuate the height of the room. “The dining room needed to be more inviting and commanding,” comments Emanuel. An octagonal dining table was chosen to mirror the alcove shape above. The original chandelier was painted gloss white as a contrast to the lacquered cobalt blue, drawn from the patterned draperies above. An existing credenza and a mirror, originally in the foyer, were lacquered to match the alcove ceiling. HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

The coastal architecture of London Bay Homes’ two-story Claremont design echoes its location, just a block from the Gulf of Mexico in Old Naples. Mature oak trees frame the custom five-bedroom, six-full bath home, awash in white and accented with Bahama shutters, board-and-batten and lap siding, transom windows, and even a porthole. Two

freestanding

islands

offer

in-room

and

additional work space in the Claremont’s sizable kitchen. Equipped for the master chef, the space was designed with double ovens, a built-in espresso maker, a cooktop with subway tile backsplash and a hidden catering kitchen featuring a butler’s bar and wine room. Whether hosting intimate gatherings or elaborate parties, the Claremont is the perfect home for entertaining. Pale gray wood flooring and a pyramid ceiling paneled in driftwood tones recall an elegant beach cottage in the Claremont’s ground-floor master bedroom. Just steps from the pool and spa, the private retreat’s ocean blue accents and dark anigre wood furniture stand out against calm ivory walls. The Claremont was designed with multiple outdoor living destinations and a blending of indoor and outdoor spaces,” notes Mark Wilson, president of London Bay Homes, a leading homebuilder and developer in the luxury custom home market for more than 25 years. The tiled fireplace wall and wood paneled ceiling of the alfresco living room give the feel of an indoor space. An outdoor kitchen, dining area, TV and bar complete the space. A sunken fireplace and lounging area, chaises under a pergola, and multiple spillways and water features create the home’s private resort. Ocean blue glass mosaic tiles shimmer on an illuminated accent wall and around the perimeter of the custom pool and floating spa. Courtesy of London Bay Homes, www.londonbay.com

This unique home in the Moorings was built for a New England couple with distinct tastes. The home is a transitional craftsman style, designed to truly be one-of-a-kind. The design team of Jinx McDonald, Minka McDonald, and Janine Blume furnished this eclectic home with handsome custom pieces sourced by Century, Old Biscayne Designs, Hickory White, Vanguard, and Taylor King. A large, asymmetrical sectional was created to perfectly fit the angled lines of the great room. The great room features a soaring vaulted ceiling with expansive skylights finished with gray shutters, creating a sleek modern look that juxtaposes with the traditional craftsman beams. A Chippendale stair rail adds a romantic touch to the architecture. The great room focal wall, made from ten slabs of blue calcite and lighted from behind, features a linear fireplace, a large flat screen TV, and a curved bar. The unique bar continues into the outdoor living area when the sliders are pulled back, creating an expansive indoor/outdoor living and entertaining area. The open kitchen’s cabinets are finished in both light and dark grays and topped with Berwyn Cambria quartz countertops. Rich gray wood floors run throughout the open floor plan. A java barn door with ostrich leather inserts divides the great room from the master wing, which carries the home’s color palette of grays, whites, and blues, punctuated by dark java accents for weight and impact. A glass bottle Curry & Co. light fixture accents the dining room and an enlargement of a stunning photo from the clients’ recent trip to Antarctica. MCGARVEY CUSTOM HOMES The Mon Paradis grand estate model is a country French design with 5,141 square feet under air. Designed by Alberto Abad of New Architectura, the plan also features a formal dining room with refrigerated red and white wine storage, a study/parlor, four bedrooms, four full- and two half-baths, a pool bath, and a split design two- and a three-car garage. The home’s interior is designed by Ruta Menaghlazi, senior interior designer at Freestyle Interiors. Menaghlazi’s graceful design for this open home is juxtaposed with the rustic French influence evident in the vaulted dark wood-beamed ceilings and wire-brushed white oak hardwood flooring in the living areas. A massive great room with a soaring vaulted ceiling flows easily into a double-island kitchen and breakfast area. The kitchen commands attention with contrasting black lower cabinets and classic white uppers. The outer island, with backless wooden bar stools, features a stained walnut top. The food preparation island and perimeter have granite countertops. The 14-foot high windows are insulated to allow an unimpeded view while blocking the sun’s heat. The breakfast room extends from the kitchen and features two walls of windows and broad views of the pool and lanai. Menaghlazi installed banquette seating along the windows. The symmetry of the master en suite bath features his-and-her vanities, a bathing alcove with open shelving, and his-and-her water closets. The master suite includes a morning kitchen, two wardrobes, and a sitting area for two. The rear lanai features multiple gathering areas, an outdoor kitchen, and a fireplace displaying a split-face textured travertine cladding rising to the ceiling. The covered outdoor spaces feature rolldown screens. Courtesy of McGarvey Custom Homes www.mcgarveycustomhomes.com

ID•ÓL• O•GY INTERIORS Perfectly placed between the Gordon River and the golf course at Bear’s Paw is an enclave of 22 single-family homes known as the Landings at Bear’s Paw. The newly decorated, 3,905-square-foot under air Cayman II model offers an open living concept with a large great room, open dining room, and a large kitchen adjacent to the outdoor living area. “The design concept was based on accentuating the expansive golf course views, architectural detail, and open concept plan,” comments Libby Marx of ID•ól•o•gy Interiors. By creating a neutral backdrop with rich fabrics and textures, the design team chose to add vibrant pops of color to complement the vivid greens and blues outside. These pops of color paired with soaring ceilings and glass pocket sliders in the main living area draw the eye up and out over the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. The overall feel is tailored, fresh, and exceptionally livable. The stage has been set for enjoying a day by the pool after a round of golf, dining al fresco after a day on the boat, or entertaining at a moment’s notice. HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

When describing how the Pennsylvania owners wanted their Royal Harbor dream home to look and feel, it was clear the exterior would read urban modern and the interior California coastal. With its sleek linear lines, the finished home provides the owners everything on their wish list. The exterior of the home is a modern, beach house style. The unique glass garage door, and an array of tropical full-size palms and river rocks lining the landscape beds, set that stage. Inside the tall glass entry doors is a cascading, opentread staircase with stainless steel cable railings. The light fixture, sourced through Wilson Lighting, complements the unique design. Interior designer Maria Caruso provided a deeper level of tone and textures, adding warm colors, natural stone, and glass elements to the interior of the home. Legno Bastone Wide Plank European oak hardwood flooring from Naples Flooring runs throughout. A Venetian plaster finish completes the fireplace. The kitchen features clean, white Shaker cabinets and stainless steel professional grade Thermador appliances. The oversized island–one side for food prep and the other for guests–features Macaubas quartzite tops and a waterfall edge. The tiles on the backsplash are set vertically, adding to the contemporary look. A large walk-in pantry offers abundant storage. The spacious master bath features a walk-in, open-air shower with rain head and body spray fixtures. Italian Porcelain tiles are used on the floors and walls, with an on-trend vertical accent inset. The grand finale of the home is the tranquil outdoor living space, with its 360-degree cascading, glass-tile spill over spa. The tiles feature all the colors of the sea and the pavers the colors of the sand. A long-standing Naples resident and builder Thomas Martin understands that a smooth building project, requires a harmonious working relationshiop between client and builder. “When the perfect team comes together—builder and homeowner with one vision–it is the best opportunity to create something spectacular.” Courtesy of Thomas Martin Construction, www.thomasmartininc.com Photography: Blaine Jonathan Photography HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

Beauty is in the details as can be seen in this stunning condominium remodel. Beginning in the kitchen, Naples Kitchen & Bath in-house designer Angie Keyes chose Ovation cabinetry in a combination of Pearl White paint and a maple pantry wall stained in Truffle Montage for contrast. The unique ceiling detail and matching stained wood trim incorporates it into the overall design. The artistic tile mosaics under the matching wood hood and behind the faucet are from Ceramic Matrix. Flooring is a gray finished maple. The master bathroom was renovated by removing the tub and redesigning the space to allow for a large shower and a spacious alder vanity Calder Suede Montage. The countertops are Fusion Gold granite which was also used to create a wall detail in the shower. The glass subway tiles are the perfect backdrop for the Holland crystal lights from Wilson Lighting. 12-by-24-inch polished Cream Marfil natural stone is used on the shower walls and honed for the floors. The guest bathroom uses an Ovation cabinet painted in Gray Goose with Schaub Symphony knobs. A Toto Guinevere sink in Cotton is under-mounted to the granite tops, with a backsplash of 1-by1-inch Lunda Bay Tomei glass tiles in Petra Natural. Shower features a combination of Lunda Bay tiles sourced from Ceramic Matrix with 2-by-2-inch limestone tiles from Dal-tile. The fixtures is from Access, sourced through Wilson Lighting. The laundry design with pooch in mind shows a dog-wash sink with commercial grade extending faucet surrounded by 3-by-6-inch white subway tiles. The cabinets, in Pearl finish, include a pull-out drawer that accommodates doggy essentials. Courtesy of Naples Kitchen & Bath, www.NaplesKB.com

THE SWEET ART GALLERY “When the home itself is a modern masterpiece, choosing the right artwork is paramount to the overall project,” says Dede Sweet, owner of The Sweet Art Gallery. That statement is illustrated the moment you enter this modern home and are greeted by a bright, colorful abstract original painting which sets the mood by declaring “this home is alive!”

Opposite the foyer in the formal dining room, an oversized painting commissioned by Miami artist Kurt Merkel, makes a statement. The piece, painted on wood with stainless overlays, echoes the freeform metal light fixture above the glass table. K2 DESIGN

Modern Italy was brought to Naples during the design of this penthouse master bathroom. With international influence playing a heavy role into the inspiration and emotion behind this space, CEO and design principal Jenny Provost brought inspiration from Francesco Rota, LaCava and Selvaggio Mosaics to create a masterpiece. Cabinetry is IRPINIA in Apco Polyluxe. A Oluce sconce and Hubbardton Forge pendant provide lighting. LaCava plumbing fixtures were primarily used. Countertops are Cambria Menai quartz. With modern simplicity being the focus in this penthouse kitchen, dimension, neutral colors, and fine lines became the inspiration behind this design. Custom IRPINIA cabinetry was used in matte Charred Maples and White Gloss. Countertops are Silestone Unsui quartz and backsplash tiles are from Walker Zanger. Island countertop is a blend of Cambria White Cliff quartz and Unsui. Stools are Lowenstein Bistro and the lighting pendants are Viso Round Zebra. Perfectly even back-lighting is no longer a designer’s challenge. EOS panels provide even back-lighting to the Wild Agate stone slabs on the surround. Cabinetry is by IRPINIA in white matte. KGT REMODELING

BEFORE

Built in 2003, this home needed more living space with a fresh and open feel. KGT Remodeling met with the owners to establish their dreams and design style, which resulted in removing the wall between the living room and the kitchen. The new design created a more functional kitchen while keeping the tile flooring intact per the owner’s wishes. A tile border was created with new inset tiles around the island. White Shaker cabinets are by Conestoga. The glass tile backsplash is PietraArt Bliss in Twilight Mist; the color chosen for the Pompeii quartz countertop in Urban.
