M
att Ozturk, president of The Granite Place, knows Southwest Floridians have impeccable taste. He travels the world — Italy, Brazil, India, Turkey and Spain — in search of the best quality natural stone available. That commitment to quality shines through the moment you walk through the showroom door. With an inventory of more than 200 colors, the showroom is like an art gallery of stones ranging from classic Carrera marble to bold Blue Bahia granite. Each stone is top quality, from basics to truly breathtaking exotics with vivid color patterns and motion. In fact, the Granite Place’s selection is so unique that customers fly in from out of state — even out of country — to select exotics that cannot be found anywhere else! Ozturk believes that a key to success is to personally inspect and hand select the stone he imports. He searches for balanced pattern and movement, popular stones that are “of the moment,” rare finds, and quality. Area fabricators, designers, builders, contractors and cabinet makers rely on The Granite Place to provide the products their own clients demand and expect. To ensure only the highest quality is delivered, the well-trained staff at the Granite Place only utilizes stones that are free of fissures and cracks to avoid problems during fabrication. Since opening its doors in 2005, this small family business has grown every year. The Granite Place now operates in two locations — Sarasota and North Port. Both locations have built their success and reputation on unrivaled customer service and the best selection of stone anywhere in the region. To see all that The Granite Place has to offer, visit the Sarasota showroom at 2328 N Washington Blvd., or view the full inventory online at thegraniteplace.net.

I am honored and proud to present another Suncoast edition of Home & Design that is packed full of design and inspiration. This is my seventh edition and I am still awestruck at all the projects that we are able to feature. The professionals and resources in this area are top notch! In this edition we proudly present our first Home & Design Suncoast Signature home, which is a collaboration with international celebrity interior designer Thom Filicia and local builder David Weekley Homes, and local interior designer Stephanie Nolan of Distinctive Interiors. We are thrilled to have Thom on board the team for this feature, and I hope you agree that this two-story contemporary farm house, located in the historical district of downtown Sarasota known as Laurel Park, is stunning. A little secret I heard is that this house sold in just 48 hours after it was opened to the public. Congratulations to the team. Each edition we aim to assemble the best of the best to provide you, our readers, the top resources in our luxury home market. As the market continues to soar, we aim to grow with it. We are proud to say that with our hard work, we continue to be the #1 luxury home publication. INSIDE THE PLUMBING PLACE
Traditional farmhouse design is evident in the standing seam metal roof, gabled ends, and cedar tongue-and-groove ceilings. The travertine porch floor, five-glass-panel front door, and the dining room’s storefront windows depart from the traditional and give a modern edge to the design. The home by David Weekley Homes features CMU construction (concrete masonry unit) on the first floor and frame on the second. Both stories are covered with HardiePanel vertical siding accented with white brick.

When Emilio Sadez, president of International Design Source, met with David Weekley Homes’ Division President Jeff Waddle about the company’s plan to build a “Modern Farmhouse” on a corner lot in Sarasota’s historic Laurel Park neighborhood, he immediately thought of international celebrity designer Thom Filicia for Home & Design Magazine’s Suncoast Signature Home. “I thought, ‘Hey! This is the right fit’,” recalls Sadez, who had read Filicia’s book American Beauty: Renovating and Decorating a Beloved Retreat and knew the designer’s propensity to create modern, yet meaningful, and classic interiors. Filicia readily agreed to serve as the design consultant on the project, saying, “I was excited to be a part of the downtown Sarasota area. I love being able to connect with neighbors in a walkable environment, to bring energy to a community, and architect Alan Anderson did an amazing job. He was respectful of the neighborhood, making the home feel authentic and appropriate. He was adept at utilizing the lot—I liked the way he connected it to the environment.” “The lot was a challenge,” admits Anderson. “This lot is one of four in this neighborhood that we are working on with David Weekley Homes. It is the corner lot and the smallest of the four, so maximizing the size of the house as much as code would allow, was critical. We feel we did this, yet gave the rooms good sizes and created great spaces. Corner lots can be exceptionally challenging, but we embraced this with the corner dining room opening out.” For interior designer Stephanie Nolan of Distinctive Interiors of Sarasota, the challenge was to find ways to modernize traditional farmhouse design and make it work in a coastal locale. “We did a Thom Filicia house. I tried to do it from his point of view. I studied his work, asked myself, ‘What would Thom do?’ I took myself out of the equation.” u
Right: Crisp blue and white dominate the great room, with fabrics from the Thom Filicia collection for Kravet gracing the walls and draperies, covering the seating bench, and sewn into plump pillows nestled on the white Rugby Road sofa and Armory Square upholstered chair, both from the Thom Filicia Home Collection by Vanguard. The cocktail table is actually a pair of triangular-shaped Edgewood Nesting Cocktail Tables in a glossy white finish, also from Vanguard’s Thom Filicia Home Collection. Cobalt blue table lamps from Currey & Co. rest atop twin Drumlins end tables in a mirrored polished stainless steel finish with glass tops. The slender cast aluminum accent table with recessed top in a polished nickel finish is from Prima Design. A white stacked-stone focal wall houses a 42-inch gas fireplace. A Feiss Corinne six-light globe pendant provides whole-room light.

Above: In a departure from the pure white walls found elsewhere in the main floor rooms, strips of Montana Ghost Wood in Silver City run horizontally across a dining room accent wall. Natural light pours in from the trio of floor-to-ceiling fixed windows. Color-blocked draperies in a Thom Filicia fabric for Kravet soften the edges. A quartet of Vanguard Thom Felicia Home Collection Brattle Road side chairs featuring polished nickel casters, and top handles, surrounds the 48-inch Brownstone dining table. The mirror-front four-door Vanguard Durston Road sideboard has two shelves, and two drawers with silver liner.
Left: A collection of top-end stainless steel appliances such as the Thermador wine cooler, Bertazzoni dishwasher, refrigerator, speed oven (electric convection plus microwave), and six-burner dual fuel gas range with the Cattura telescopic downdraft range hood by Best punctuate the simple lines of gleaming white cabinetry. A built-in Bosch coffee machine utilizes a Home Connect app, allowing the homeowner to prepare coffee from anywhere. Appliances are courtesy of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. White wood bar-height dining chairs tuck under the quartz-topped kitchen island. The handmade Italian tabletop setting is courtesy of MĂŠlange Home. Overhead a Feiss Jonah chandelier casts a decorative glow, while recessed cans in the tongue-and-groove ceiling and under-cabinet fixtures provide task lighting. The frontfacing kitchen window is dressed with a Roman shade from Kravet in a Thom Filicia fabric.
HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

Above and Left: Deluxe finishes and furniture-style, built-in cabinetry give the master bath a decidedly modern, luxurious vibe. Carrera marble lines the floors and faces the walls up to a pencil line wainscoting. In the shower, the marble takes on new dimensions as an inset of basket weave surrounding the high window, and a hexagonal mosaic on the floor. A full-body spray, as well as a rain head, pours water lavishly into the frameless glass enclosure. The shower’s interior wall creates a nook for the freestanding solid-surface resin tub. Glossy-white plantation shutters filter light and maintain privacy.
Opposite: Deep, vibrant blues underscore the driftwood tones of the Salt Springs case goods, the pure white tufted headboard of the Chatfield king bed. Custom Euro shams, bed linens, and draperies all feature Thom Filicia fabrics. The ensemble is set against an accent wall painted with Sherwin-Williams Dignity Blue. An area rug from Surya anchors the bed, while a silvery Monte Carlo ceiling fan from the Butterfly collection flutters overhead. Filicia points to the versatility of his collection, saying, “The Chatfield bed, a timeless classic, could be dressed in all white to look fresh, clean, and Floridian, or in sumptuous color to suit an older home or a New York loft.”
28
HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2
Filicia enjoys the process and the creative result. “With these collaborations, I become the muse for the local designer; it’s always fun to see how another designer uses our product; to see his or her interpretation of me.” On the first floor, Nolan used blues from Filicia’s fabric collection to convey the coastal ambiance. Upstairs, she says she went “a little more urban, a little unexpected, masculine” in the bonus room. She pulled the whole house together by mixing wood finishes to give it “a collected look” and “added detailing to give it an upscale, Signature look.” The resulting 2,908-square-foot, three bedroom, four full- and one-half-bath home proved to be so popular that it sold the very evening that it was revealed at an open house. Waddle says David Weekley Homes will build custom “Modern Farmhouse” designs on the three additional Laurel Park lots. The trend will also feature prominently in the Reserve at Honore, the company’s intimate Sarasota community of 19 homes currently under development. n

Above: A pair of Surya area rugs adds shades of blue to the home office. A dark wood dining table, and four x-back chairs do double duty as a conference table. Twin side chairs from Fairfield Chair Co. face the Barton Creek desk from Lexington-Sligh. A window seat covered by Kravet with Thom Filicia fabric, nestled between custom built-in bookcases, creates a cozy seating nook.
Opposite: Pools by Design tucked a 10-by-20-foot custom-built saltwater pool into a corner of the backyard. It features a sheer descent waterfall on a two-foot raised wall at one end. A four-foot-square floating glassbead fire table is centered on the split sun shelves. One-by-two-inch glass mosaic tile sparkles at the waterline and on the raised wall. A blue LED fixture casts its light on the custom black and blue quartz pool finish. The silvery coping and decking is Turkish travertine. Tropitone outdoor furnishings are arranged around the pool and lanai. “The way the home opens to the outdoor space is one of my favorite features,” says Anderson. “The outdoor kitchen and pool area really expand the space and make the house feel larger than it is.”

A long driveway of gray pavers gently curves under a gleaming Cypress porte cochere that extends to the front door of the home. The entablature was custom designed to resemble butcher block, differentiating it from the ceiling. Black slate roof tile caps the design. Textured stone surrounds the elevator shaft, which spans the three-stories. The CBS construction is embellished with precast concrete cladding and stone elements.

Steps away from the tranquil aqua waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Asian influence and modern tastes are evident in this a three-story beachfront home of contemporary design from architect Bradley John Smith. Although this 7,000-plus-square-foot home, with five bedrooms and six full- and two half-baths was a private commission, it would appeal to many homeowners says builder Brent Whitehead. “Modern design is popular with sophisticated, high-end clientele,” explains Whitehead. “The Asian influence makes it attractive to younger homeowners, as well as those of European descent.” In keeping with traditional Asian design, natural wood and stone were used extensively. Sophisticated natural materials like mahogany, tiger wood, and natural and man-made stone were used in simple ways in the cabinetry, countertops, ceilings, and floors. Working closely with the homeowners, interior designer Debbie Stevens added furnishings, fixtures, and finishes that would weather the beachfront elements while preserving the continuity of the warm, contemporary design. “My goal was to create a simple, clean design using neutral colors accented with architectural elements of wood and stone. I achieved this through multiple-wood ceiling designs, floor inlays, custom doors, and trim details. It’s also important to me to complement the exterior materials and elements by continuing them on the interior in a slightly more refined manner,” notes Stevens. u
Right: An oversized sectional with double chaises custom-designed and covered in Momentum Soho Sapphire velvet, dominates the generously-sized living room. Behind it, a series of five-panel shoji-style sliding doors pocket into the wall, opening the room to the adjacent dining room. A pair of swivel barrel Lexington Kava chairs in creamy, stain-resistant Crypton fabric completes the seating group. Polished Limra limestone runs up the fireplace wall. Twin mahogany bookcases are connected by a mahogany beam set low on the wall. Glass shelves are illuminated by lights tucked behind the front. Backlighting on the split-coffer ceiling design makes it appear to float. The clever design also conceals motorized sunshades for the western-facing sliding doors.

Above: Since the dining room is open to the living room, the chandelier above a unique table from Epoch Solutions crafted from a slab of Bubinga wood featuring a live edge provides continuity. The table rests on two Bernhardt Argent polished stainless steel bases. Ten arm chairs surround the table. Visible in the corner is the wine room, where treasured bottles rest on racks crafted from a system of cable wires. Designed by Epoch Solutions the bar features high gloss Sapele Pommele Lauriermax cabinetry outfitted with bar sink, Scotsman ice maker, and an under-the-counter refrigerator. The bar top and full backsplash are brilliant blue Vetrazo Cobalt Sky counters made from recycled glass from Skyy Vodka bottles, beer bottles, condiment jars, demolition architectural glass, and aquariums. The gas fireplace does double duty for the parlor, accessed through either of the doors flanking it.
Right: The focus of the kitchen by Epoch Solutions is the center island with its carved-glass waterfall counterheight table. The lightly brushed-finish of the Thinkglass countertop designed by Epoch Solutions resembles waves. LED lighting tucked under the table edge gives the piece an ever-changing glow from within. A wall of Lauriermax lacquered wood cabinetry in Macassar Ebony houses a Thermador gas range with pot filler, and steam and traditional single ovens by WOLF. Miele and Sub-Zero refrigerators are faced with custom doors. Twin Asko dishwashers and a Scotsman ice maker round out the fully equipped kitchen. Above the sink, motorized Roman shades are hidden when fully retracted. A trio of glittering Letizia pendant lamps hangs above the island. Each cascading fixture is two- tiers of connecting circular blown-glass pieces. The Cambria countertops are Torquay quartz.

Above: Floating vanities with Toto undermount sinks, Watermark polished nickel fixtures, and storage towers line each side of the master bath. Made from Taj Mahal quartzite, the top and apron edges are mitered to give the appearance of a six-inch thick slab. Light from the twin Fine Art Lamps Allegretto wall sconces in silver leaf finish bounces off each of the John Richards mirror-framed, gold-trimmed oversized mirrors. Frameless glass walls and door surround the extra-large shower. Backlit floating walls inlaid with green opal-stone bullet-mosaic from La Casa Tile contain full-body shower sprays. The ceiling by Epoch Solutions is African Sapele mahogany accented by strips of burled-wood. Recessed lights around the ceiling edges give it the appearance of floating, while lights in the panels themselves provide illumination for the room.
Opposite: The foyer exemplifies the fusion of mathematics and nature. One-by-one-inch mother-of-pearl was carefully embedded in two-by-two-inch laser cut pieces of the Turkish Limra white limestone from La Casa Tile which were installed following the Golden Mean proportional design of a Nautilus shell. The metallic powder-coated aluminum stair-rail and spindles echo the curvature. Months of research, samples, and drawings went into the creation of the chandelier, which resulted in the selection of thick Murano glass tiles, assembled into 18 glass tubes. Attached to a three-foot diameter stainless-steel plate, the entire fixture is motorized to descend for maintenance. Carpathian Burl and Carvalho veneers on a planked Sapele from Epoch Solutions crisscross the ceiling in a 3D design, complementing the shape of the room.

“Learning what my clients like and dislike typically guides my design process,” continues Stevens, who has worked with the homeowners before, completing two renovations of their previous home. “In this instance, that included a trip to The Ulmstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, North Carolina. The homeowners had recently visited there and were enamored with the warmth and feel of the interiors. I wanted to get a first-hand feel for the actual elements that made them happy.” n
Left: Serene in shades of silver and gray, the parlor is simply furnished with a plump sectional and a circular ostrich-patterned leather ottoman. A striped cowhide rug anchors the seating group. Naturalwoven Roman shades at each window are easily controlled and offer sleek styling. Overhead, the ceiling presents another floating coffered design, but this time the grid is three-dimensional.

Above: The lanai runs the entire width of the house, offering multiple possibilities for outdoor living and entertaining. The 36-by-36-inch precast flooring tiles from La Casa Tile are enhanced with embedded bits of shell and stone. Split-faced stacked stone covers the entertainment wall housing both a fireplace and large screen television. Tongue-and-groove mahogany gleams overhead. Furnishings such as the barheight mesh and metal dining chairs are impervious to the elements. The vanishing-edge pool features a hidden spa just under the surface of its crystalline waters.
Opposite: The harmony and balance of the Asian contemporary design is evident when the home is viewed from offshore. The symmetrical wings of the top floor and the equal spacing in the alignment of the outdoor areas on the main floor exemplify parity. The simple, low-growing landscaping at the rear of the home allows for an unimpeded view of the Gulf of Mexico beyond the natural shoreline border of grasses and reeds.

“This family home on Sarasota Bay features a standing seam metal roof, painted shutters, and bungalow rafter-tail details,” states Murray. “The contrast in light colors and darker woods and how the overall mass is broken down into a more human-scale, with breaks in walls, roof lines, and porches give it that distinct British West Indies architectural style.” This is a fully integrated smart home which includes Crestron controlled audio, video, lighting, shading, thermostats, and more, provided by Wicked Smart Homes.

This stunning British West Indies-style house on Harbor Drive in Sarasota Bay is everything the homeowners—a pair of empty-nesters with grown children and grandkids—wished for and more. Interior designer Gail Carlson of Studio G Home collaborated with builder Steve Murray of Murray Homes and architect John Potvin to build the clients’ forever home. With this tried-and-true team, the odds of creating something special were very good. “It all started with finding them the right acreage,” says Murray, who specializes in finding just such land. “This lot is in a great central location. It’s close to downtown, near good schools, and has navigable water and stunning views.” The half-acre pie-shaped lot is smaller on the street side but opens up laterally on the bayside, allowing for great indoor-outdoor connectivity at the rear of the home. “Because we’re in the flood zone, we had to raise the home’s elevation,” says Potvin. “What’s special about the architecture is that we brought the feel and spirit of water inside, starting in the foyer, where you see the infinity pool, also raised, straight out the glass pocket sliding doors in the back. The pool is literally 12 feet away.” Once inside the 5,100-square-foot home, waterfront views are paramount from glass doors and covered balconies. The home is divided into two wings—one with the main living spaces, the other with the master suite. Upstairs are three guest rooms, including a bunkroom with play area on the open landing. “The décor is transitional in style,” says Carlson. “I wanted it to feel sophisticated. There are subtle references to coastal elements throughout the home, but nothing is stereotypical.” Whether in pops of blue, or in the cypress paneled and beamed ceilings, or the weathered pine floors, a refined coastal look prevails, but the selected mix of materials and furnishings are timeless for any location. “I like to juxtapose the dark against the light, the textured against the smooth, the coastal against the refined,” notes Carlson. “I find it creates an interesting space when you combine contrasting and different materials and elements.”
Right: In the great room living area, which opens onto a furnished and covered porch, furnishings are both comfortable and elegant. A pair of velvet sofas—one in cocoa brown and one in French blue—creates an L-shaped area capable of seating many when the homeowners are entertaining. A custom cabinet with television sits to the far right. The trapezoidal coffee table is by Hickory Chair, and the cocktail ottoman in white cowhide is from Studio G Home. The fireplace is stacked ledger- stone from La Casa Tile.

The island’s lighter based cabinets are similarly treated in Worldly Grey. “We wanted to create a strong focal point,” says Carlson of the dramatic chevron-patterned marble feature wall, with open wood shelving on iron brackets. The kitchen features an integrated paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator, and Wolf oven-stovetop range.

Limited to just eight fortunate residents, One88 offers the finest in luxury living in the very heart of Sarasota. Overlooking Sarasota Bay from Golden Gate Point, One88 offers these select few ever-changing vistas of sunsets and city lights. The creation of the Florida division of Toronto based Vandyk Group of Companies. The building is designed to be as enduring structurally as it is visually. “This building has been built to last,” states Albert Luper, Regional Vice President of the Florida division. The interior design team of Kurt Lucas and Christopher J. Sloan of JKL Design Group were commissioned to stage this 3-bedroom, 3 full- and one-half bath unit in a coastal modern design. “We wanted to have the new owners just bring their toothbrush and move in,” comments Lucas. “I believe we accomplished it with the very unique pieces we choose.” “From the moment you enter the unit’s private foyer, the selection of finishes, furnishings, accessories, and art create living spaces that are cohesive, yet individually unique,” says Sloan. The unit offers a large great room with an oversized balcony at floor level, designed to meld the two together. “The unit is perfect for entertaining large numbers of guests, so we incorporated ample seating without losing the spaciousness of the room,” adds Lucas. Meant to be a model, the unit sold quickly, giving testimony to their design talents.

The clients wanted two seemingly divergent feelings in their vacation home on Sarasota’s Harbor Drive— modernity and warmth. But architect Mark Sultana is in the business of realizing people’s vision, and doing so without drama or conflict. “I listen carefully to my clients and give them what they want,” explains Sultana. “I am an easy-going guy without a huge ego. I get a good feeling when I am able to design something that delights the clients and then be invited back months later for the party where they are proudly showing off their new home.” Sultana particularly enjoys working with builder Mike Voigt, whom he has teamed up with on many other projects. “There’s no reinventing the wheel with Mike, who understands what I’m looking for and does the highest quality work,” says Sultana. “I am passionate about exceeding expectations,” agrees Voigt. “I never want to settle for anything but the best. I really enjoy building things. My hands-on approach means I am actually on the job site to oversee all of the details during construction.” The third member of this successful team is April White. She served as interior designer on the project and had the most challenging, yet fascinating experience, of the whole team. “Besides a handful of in-person meetings, the majority of the project was done via email, since the homeowners spend majority of their time in Europe,” explains White. “We made sure to use our limited time together very efficiently, making color, fabric, and finish selections. The homeowners had a lot of input on the design direction and I made sure to pay strict attention. I came to understand their tastes, likes, and dislikes very well.” White summed up the project, “The whole thing came together incredibly smoothly.”

Surrounding the custom built base of the Ben Nettles linear fire-pit table, are woven hemp and bronze Babylon settees and chairs with durable Sunbrella fabric. The outdoor kitchen at the far end of the lanai is set on a wall clad in taupe limestone tiles from Sticks and Stone Flooring. The kitchen is equipped with a 36-inch Lynx grill from Monark Premium Appliance Co. The Babette table designed by Marc Sadler is paired with aluminum side and armchairs.
Opposite: A living wall of plants adorns the lower level of the home, as seen from the pool deck. A sculptural cantilevered staircase has a landing made of glass to offer a view of the water feature below. That waterfall pours into a lap pool lined with polished glass beads for a delightful feeling underfoot. A quartet of stepping-stones offers a line of demarcation to the corner spa shaded by the living area overhead.

This five-bedroom 4,800-square-foot Anna Maria Island beach house is the result of a close collaboration by Lee Ross of Ross Built Construction and interior designer Lisa M. Guild of LMG Design. Two things about the home are especially striking. One is the coastal color palette; the other is the creative use of divergent, yet harmonious materials. “It’s right on Holmes Beach, with amazing ocean views,” says Guild, when speaking of the home’s first distinguishing feature. “The decorating palette comes from what’s right outside: the driftwood, the sand, the different colors of the water, as it recedes and gets deeper,” she says of the browns, grays, blues, and sea-foam greens used throughout. By contrast, the trim work and shaker-style cabinetry are mostly crisp white. The second standout statement is the liberal use of rich, diverse, textural materials, such as hand-poured Italian kitchen tiles, distressed pine floors, cypress ceiling beams, porcelain tile work, black marble, a flagstone hearth, and more. Nowhere is the material interplay more apparent than in the foyer. “The turret entry to the home is a key feature,” shares Ross of the hexagonal foyer, with porcelain tile floors and a hexagonal wood ceiling medallion. “It’s a unique three-story-high space, with the stairs hugging the wall and floating all the way up.” “Though the palette is consistent, tying all the spaces together, we created visual interest using different materials or different approaches with the same material,” says Guild. For example, the kitchen has hand-poured Italian tile as a backsplash in a herringbone pattern on the stove wall and in a bricked pattern on the sink wall. The kitchen also has a huge stainless-steel-topped island that seats up to eight. “The homeowners love to cook. They have large family gatherings in the summer, with lots of kids and grandkids, who range from very young to college-age, so the great room was really designed to be the heart of the house,” adds Ross.
Right: Lush landscaping including varietal palm trees and fuchsia bougainvillea surrounds the front driveway of the coastal shingle-style house designed by Ross Built. The home fans out on the lot, with dual D & D Garage Doors to the left. The natural drive is a prelude to the textural experience inside.

The Florida coastal style is epitomized in this Anna Maria Island home. Historical architecture is adapted to the tropical climate and demands of modern living. The traditional exterior welcomes family and visitors alike to the beach, and a casual yet sophisticated lifestyle. Architect Allison Kaffka partnered with Whitehead Construction on this project. She explains, “The client’s, the builder’s, and my ideas merged seamlessly on this project to create a residence that allows space for family activities, recreation, guests, and quiet relaxation.” Whitehead adds, “We are blessed to have customers who are willing to let us build what is so important to them.” Each family member’s room looks out on a direct view of the Gulf with a calm sense of place amidst the lively energy of family life. “When you step inside the beachfront residence, you are immediately welcomed by the simplistic charm of the color palette,” notes interior Designer Gail Carlson of Studio G Home. “Oyster white and warm neutrals inspire a coastal setting that’s calm and comfortable. While surrounded by traditional yet classic architectural elements, interior spaces flow with ease and create a sense of relaxation and hint of barefoot elegance.” The three-story residence is spread over two Gulf-front properties that were combined to create a 1.34-acre plot. The home includes five bedrooms, five full- and one half-baths. The ground level consists of the entry foyer, stairs, elevator, a three-car garage, and storage for beach equipment. At the rear, a large recreation lanai spreads out adjacent to the pool and spa. The second floor houses a great room comprising of living, dining, and kitchen areas. An additional butler’s pantry, food pantry, and laundry are just beyond the kitchen. The sunroom, off a large covered porch and open sun deck, overlooks the multiple water views of pool and Gulf. The master suite on this level is tucked to the side and is approached via a hallway behind the sunroom. The third level, or “second living space,” as it is called, contains four additional suites, and a secondary living or family room. The façade of this large home is a judicious mix of openings that symmetrically line each floor. Andersen Stormwatch windows are used along with transoms, casements, and picture windows to create an eclectic mix.

A coffered, tongue-and-groove ceiling and woodwork in Benjamin Moore White Heron define the great room. The Century Furniture sectional and occasional chairs in linen-cotton are accented with textured pillows with mother-of-pearl buttons. A sliding white marble waterfall table layers over the charcoal tufted-leather ottoman with exposed nail-head trim. Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in Lancaster European white oak is from La Casa Tile. A hand-made oyster-shell and crystal-drop, candelabra-style chandelier coordinates with the antique mirror-paneled TV console.

Side chairs are in charcoal leather and wood, painted, and wax-finished in marble. Ottomans upholstered in woven, textured fabric are fitted with casters, and the fliptop console table, cater to large gatherings.

Lighting reminiscent of ship’s lanterns glows over the Rohl apron front fireclay sink and polished chrome faucet from The Plumbing Place. Bahama-style shutters, decorative corbels, and dramatic trim work embellishing the three gables are the first indicators that a British West Indies vibe heavily influences The Victoria design. The home’s symmetry begins here as well, with a triple-arch entry spanning two wings of the home presenting identical exterior features. A sideloading garage features doors from D & D Garage Doors. Twin monuments on each side of the approach set the boundaries of the lushly planted gray paver courtyard.

Symmetrical yet inviting, sophisticated yet warm and casual, The Victoria model designed and built by John Cannon Homes surrounds you with trademark touches of its island-inspired West Indies design. Underfoot, dark wide-planked solid hardwood floors topped with light-toned area rugs in natural fabrics emphasize the classic play of dark and light that is characteristic of West Indies décor. A resort-style pool and spa with water features offers a sparkling welcome. An airy gallery leads to four spacious bedrooms, four full- and one half-baths and his-and-hers studies. In the great room, a soaring double-vaulted, cabana-style ceiling of glossy white tongue-andgroove paneling accented by dark-stained wood beams transports you to the tropics. “We captured the essence of traditional West Indies design while adding the John Cannon Homes modern flair,” explains builder John Cannon. “Throughout the home, we combined timeless features such as the coffered ceiling in the master bedroom, with current trends like the waterfall-edge quartz countertop at the kitchen island. We also added a separate executive suite which includes a fully equipped morning bar, dining nook, inviting living space, sleeping quarters, and lavish bathroom. Wrapping windows and a private French door entry from the front porch create all the benefits of a guesthouse.” The Victoria’s extensive outdoor living spaces add more than 1,600 square feet to the home’s generous 5,193 square feet of living area. The resort lifestyle they embody resonates with Cannon and interior designer Roy Davis. The large open kitchen with the oversized waterfall island is also one of Davis’ favorite features. New technology has its place in the home as well. A digitally-controlled, multi-function, chromo-therapy, walk-in master bath shower and a temperature-controlled wine room are just two examples. The flawless execution of design and function earned The Victoria a “Best Overall” honor in the Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association’s 2017 Parade of Homes, one of four such awards bestowed on the John Cannon team. According to Cannon, The Victoria is popular with a wide range of clientele, from young professionals to retirees, primary homebuyers, or those building a second home. ]

A pair of Rowe wingback chairs covered in teal chenille fabric with nail-head trim faces a Ballard Designs linen daybed across an oversized square wooden cocktail table. Plump throw pillows in fabrics from Vervain, Robert Allen, and Duralee splash color onto the Rowe linen-covered sofa. AN EXCLUSIVE ENCLAVE IN LONGBOAT KEY
HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

The glorious and exclusive Longboat Key barrier island has only 10 miles of beach frontage, so beachfront development is a rarity. The new Infinity Longboat Key condominium, a private enclave of just 11 luxury residences, is a welcome anchor to the island. Designed in the coastalcontemporary style, Infinity Longboat Key is a mix of modern and traditional styles with large exterior overhangs, clean lines, and abundant floor to ceiling azure windows. The units sit atop four stories of private parking and each lucky owner enjoys endless sight lines. Many single-family coastal homes boast about bringing the outside in, but Infinity Longboat Key has managed to achieve that desirable goal both as a structure and for each individual unit. The building’s footprint offered architect Mark Sultana the opportunity to create unusually deep balconies that run the full length of both the Gulf and Bay sides, equipped with upscale outdoor kitchens and enough space to host a party on either side. With condominiums that live like single-family homes and unmatched views of the Gulf and Bay, every unit was sold long before construction was completed. The Infinity units open from the elevator directly into the foyer, with a great room, kitchen, and owner’s suite on the Gulf side, and additional en suite bedrooms on the Bay side. Every bedroom and the great room walks right onto the balcony. Because the condo was sold-out midconstruction, each unit was customized to the owner’s specifications. Carrie Riley of Riley Interior Design worked on the core design, adornments, and finishes for all of the units as well as the common areas and the club house. A good portion of the buyers hired Riley for the complete interior design of their homes as well. “Your view is your canvas, your focal point,” explains Riley about her approach to the interiors. “The view. That’s what they are here for. We want the interiors to embellish upon it.”
Right: The generously sized kitchen is open to the great room and is a gathering area in its own right, featuring cabinetry sourced from Italy in a wood grain texture. The silver coral chandelier is from LyteWorks. The backsplash wave tile with matte finish brings interesting shadow play into the room from the under-cabinet lighting, supplied by Tile Market of Sarasota. The island countertop has a waterfall edge and cantilever effect. The island features Silestone in Bianco Rivers, while the other countertops are Silestone in Mediterranean Ocean. All appliances are Wolf and Sub-Zero. The owner brought in her own whimsical and colorful painting.

HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2
A
Architect Don Cooper was charged with designing a tropically-styled house in Palmetto that was simple yet iconic and created both indoor and outdoor circulation while maximizing views of the Bradenton River. Cooper knew just where to look for inspiration—the Parlange, a French Colonial plantation house, built in 1754 in Pointe Coupee Parrish, Louisiana. The full wrap-around porch, symmetrical columns, and many graceful nuances supplied much inspiration. “I was able to study how the house had stood the test of time in the tropical weather and make use of the proportions and details which such beautiful historic architecture provides,” says Cooper. “It was like mining for treasure.” Builder Kenneth Keating of Camlin Custom Homes, a friend of the homeowner, even drove on a research trip to visit homes in Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry. “I was eager to get the details correct, from the rafters and shutters to the interior and exterior trim, but I also wanted to make use of modern technology. We used Versatex, which looks exactly like wood with none of the problems that wood can present in such a humid environment,” explains Keating. “Working with such talented professionals like Don Cooper and interior designer Susan Hritz was just a joy, and the owners love the finished home. The proof is that we’re still friends,” Keating laughed. Hritz was delighted to work on a project where she could mix styles, textures, and colors to create a truly livable and comfortable home, while never straying far from the design’s classic roots. “I do my job best when I work together with the client to understand and fulfill their vision,” said Hritz, “I pushed the envelope ever so slightly and created an interior design that is both exactly what the homeowner wanted but is even more beautiful than they could have imagined.”
Left: Taking its color scheme from the water, sand, and lush landscaping that surrounds the home, the great room invites visitors “to sit a spell”. The Hickory White sofa and loveseat are upholstered in oatmeal linen, accented with brass nail heads. A MotionCraft recliner in taupe leather, adds additional seating and throw pillows contribute spots of color. The Palecek coffee table is made of distressed driftwood with a cane-matting top. The GJ Styles pine buffet sports a crossover design on the door fronts, and plays host to a seascape triptych from Art Classics. The entire room is wrapped in the soft blue of Sherwin-Williams Intensely Aqua paint which seems to glow in the reflected light from the Currey & Co. crystal and iron chandelier, and matching iron and crystal sconces.

The two nail-studded high-back chairs are upholstered in Lillian August Normadic Teal fabric and the two custom Hickory White side chairs are clad in Lillian August Deleo Blue fabric. Lighting the scene is the Hannah chandelier by Currey & Co. Window transoms and window frames were all hand-crafted by specialized trim carpenters and allow for long views of the wrap-around porch, the properties lovely landscaping, and the water beyond.
Right: Simple and clean design allows for fabulous finishes to be displayed prominently in this ship-shape gourmet kitchen. Cambria Berwyn quartz countertops make light work of food preparation and also provide counter seating via Noir Furniture’s whitewashed mahogany barstools with mushroom cotton-velvet seats. Dove gray and crisp white cabinetry allows everything to have its place with no clutter. Whitewashed shelves on either side of the chrome-banded range hood hold essentials. Appliances, including the wine cooler between two refrigerators, are by Wolf and Viking. A trio of pendant lights from Visual Comfort is warmly reflected in the dark-stained hickory floor.

A FLEXIBLE LIFESTYLE DESIGN HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2

Architectural designer Paul Fletcher set out to create a model home that any future buyers could easily make their own and that took advantage of beautiful views on whatever type of lot it was built. With The Marquesas, he succeeded in both goals. The home is situated on a wide preserve-view lot in The Concession, a golf club community surrounded by 1,200 acres of century-old oaks, towering pines, and protected wetlands. The 4-bedroom, 4-full and one-half bath home, with 5,105 square feet under air, was built by Fletcher’s long-time collaborator, Roy Dupuis of Anchor Builders, who terms the style Island Colonial. “The style is less formal than British Colonial and is very popular, especially with those homebuyers looking for a different style from the traditional Florida designs,” says Dupuis. “This type of home works very well on a preserve, golf course, lake, or any lot with a water feature.” “I designed the home with both formal and casual features and made great use of glass windows and doors to maximize the views from many of the rooms,” explains Fletcher, adding, “The home is also perfect for extending hospitality to out-of-town visitors.” “Every bedroom is ensuite and allows the homeowners to entertain a crowd or make use of the private ‘zones’ in the design. I like to suggest the different lifestyles that could be accommodated in this wonderful home,” says Fletcher. Interior designers Diane MacAndrew and Molly Walker envisioned the eventual homeowners relaxing with family and friends when they plotted their design and made use of what they considered the home’s biggest asset— the amount of light that floods the interior. “Your spirits lift and you get a great sense of energy,” says MacAndrew. “We tried our best to capture that in our design,” agrees Walker.
Right: A restful palette of soft blues and grays set the tone for The Marquesas’ interior design, created by the team of Walker and MacAndrew. In the living room, Walker pulled the softest of indigos to use in the built-ins framing the simple fireplace with painted mouldings. Twin streamlined chairs are slipcovered in light denim cotton and the sofa is clad in a warm ivory cotton blend, accented with pillows in shades of navy and white. A Century bench in a patterned indigo allows for extra seating. The Lexington coffee table is polished travertine with a bronze base and the end tables are of dark-stained driftwood. Visual Comfort ice blue porcelain lamps feature parchment shades. White linen window treatments are banded in blue and the Wedgewood blue rug features ribbed details. Lighting the scene is an exuberant starburst chandelier.

This two-story, two-bedroom, two full- and one-half bath guesthouse has an octagonal screened gazebo and four-car garage, offering plenty of room for out-of-town guests and entertaining needs. The homeowners host parties where several hundred guests attend and they needed both the main house and guesthouse to be lightly connected to allow the party to flow from one space to another.

This 3,900-square-foot guesthouse in The Concession was conceived by the owners and crafted for hospitality, whether it’s their daughter, out-of-town visitors, or a few hundred of their closest friends. The owners of the 7,000-square-foot Tuscan-themed main residence told architect Clifford Scholz, of Clifford M. Scholz Architects, that they wanted the guesthouse to provide total privacy for anyone staying there. But they also wanted to use the space for an additional party setup location, and desired a design which would allow partygoers to easily move from one home to another. Scholz, whose trademark is designing one-of-a-kind spaces, agreed to the project as long as he wasn’t tied to matching the main house’s architecture. “I wanted to kick it up a notch and introduce something truly unique—in this case a Palm Beach-style.” Scholz says. “I approached the room-for-entertainment challenge by attaching the two homes via a covered walkway, with a built-in bar and humidor. There is also a screened gazebo that can either be used either as party space or for an intimate group to smoke cigars, drink Scotch, and solve the problems of the world. The owners call it all ‘The Compound,’” notes Scholz. Interior Designer Lea Jackson had some other future houseguests to consider—four-legged ones. “The family has many dogs and those visitors who travel with their animals are welcome, too, so everything I used in the design had to be durable, cleanable, and pet friendly.” Furry friends aside, Jackson also wanted some lux touches to the home, the most highly visible being the hand-finished Venetian plaster walls. “I particularly love using Venetian plaster in Florida,” she says. “It is so softly reflective of the light, smooth, and even cool to the touch.” Applying Venetian plaster requires a team of artisans who must trowel, then wax, and finally burnish the surface. Fortunately, builder Richard Perrone of Perrone Construction employs such a team. “Ours is a true custom-home building business, so we have highly-skilled tradesmen in all areas,” says Perrone. “Our team takes great pride in each project we build and I believe it shows in the end product “ That perfectionism held Perrone in good stead for this project. “Not only were the homeowners very happy with the outcome, but they loved it so much we are actually now building another home for the family,” says Perrone, adding, “We’ve had a lot of fun working with this client and I think it says a great deal when we have clients who recommend us to family and friends.”
Right: Venetian-plastered walls in a burnished peach tone warm-up the long hallway that serves as a foyer. To prevent the foyer from feeling too cavernous, interior designer Jackson selected a Century Furniture settee in durable soft aqua Crypton fabric. A Century stone-topped occasional table is convenient for holding wine glasses. A greyhound statue, a tribute to the owners’ quartet of dogs, guards a custom-built cabinet designed by Jackson. The doors fold back to reveal a full wet bar. Abstract paintings by local artists Olivia and Debbie Danheisser add bursts of color. The banister is made of opaque glass panels. Underfoot is Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in Authentic Vienna sourced from La Casa Tile.

The Fine Art Lamps pendant chandelier is made of glass quartz carved to resemble rock crystal. The coffered ceiling is painted in two tones to provide depth. The thin black lines that follow the beams are actually the HVAC vents.

The leathered granite countertop holds a decorative Kohler bronze vessel sink. Dark gray cabinetry by Cabinet Design Studio has open shelves to help guest find towels and other necessities. Twin bronze-framed mirrors reflect the light of two bubble pendant lights from Bee Ridge Lighting.
Right: A Highland House metal, four-poster bed makes use of the circle shape found as part of the guest room tables. That shape is also repeated on the railings of the Juliet balcony outside the French doors. Soft-blue, organic-cotton bedding picks up the subtle color of the aqua linen curtains. Twin Currey & Co. adjustable reading lamps and recessed lights in the two-toned coffered ceiling adds layers of light. Century end tables, in a soft gray, play host to some carved feathered friends.

Above: The octagonal shape of the screened gazebo is highlighted by the vaulted cypress wood ceiling in a pickled finish. A large palm leaf fan keeps the air circulating, especially during cigar smoking sessions. Columns hold a metal and glass sconces which softly light the room. A granite-topped fire table of octagonal sliced rock holds center stage. Surrounding it are comfortable Century woven resin chairs, all of which swivel to catch a different view—of tropical landscaping, the home’s private putting green, or the lake. Between the chairs are fiberglass-topped occasional tables. The flooring is made up brushed and chiseled Versailles natural stone from La Casa Tile set in a random pattern for visual interest.
Opposite: A walkway, set with flagstone and bordered by pebble stone and ornamental plants, leads to the custom-designed fountain in the courtyard behind the guesthouse. To the left of the courtyard is the gazebo that the owners call “the heart of the compound.” A balcony above gives visitors a bird’s eye view of the entire lovely property.

I
It takes a special team to build something of lasting beauty in Sarasota’s sub-tropical climate. Residential designer Jon Coulthurst of JC Drafting & Design worked alongside builder Richard Rosenberg and interior designer Toni Vecchitto to craft a home of such enduring quality. The materials used to build this five-bedroom, 4,473-square-foot home made all the difference. “To protect
the house against the extremes of humidity, the exterior is sand-finished stucco applied over concrete. We also used cement-based HardieTrim, in place of wood. Even the porch columns are wrapped in synthetic wood-look Kleer,” says Rosenberg. The only real wood used outside is the painted tongue-in-groove board on protected porch ceilings, and the front door, which is made of an African wood called Sapele that thrives in its native tropical climate. All other doors are of fiberglass. u
Above: The foyer trim and wainscoting are Sherwin-Williams Dover White. Classic wood flooring is accented with a lattice-designed flat weave rug from Rugs as Art. The hutch, artwork, and aged-zinc 6-light chandelier are all from LyteWorks.
Left: The great room seating area sofa, loveseat, and ottoman are upholstered in tufted microfiber with contrasting brushed-nickel nail-head trim. Pattern is introduced in a geometric rug from Rugs as Art. The light fixtures, including the blown-glass table lamp, are from LyteWorks, as is the ceiling fan finished in a brushed bronze. The staggered brick fireplace is marble.
HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2
211
Inside, however, the move is decidedly toward more natural materials. Floors are engineered Hickory in a distressed finish, and the kitchen and bathrooms are outfitted mostly in marble and quartz. “The fireplace in the great room has a beautiful feature wall of a staggered marble brick,” says interior designer Vecchitto. “We added a custom wood mantle to it for softness and to layer in a warmer element.” Throughout the house, ceiling finishes vary with respect to trim and detail. “The great room is defined by a two-piece linear cove ceiling,” says Rosenberg, when speaking of what he calls a “dramatic and elegant space,” with living, dining, and sitting areas. Most ceilings are custom-fit with recessed LED lights, as well as with striking contemporary light fixtures, all from and installed by LyteWorks. u
Above: The dining room, which is open to both foyer and kitchen, is defined by a deeper taupe Sherwin-Williams Mega Greige paint. A traditional chandelier from LyteWorks with a modern nickel finish hangs above a rectangular driftwood dining table with a carved wood scroll leg. Tufted linen dining chairs, art from LyteWorks, and an Ikat patterned rug from Rugs as Art complete the space.
Right: The kitchen features shaker-style white cabinetry from Contemporary Cabinetry & Closet Concepts. Some cabinets reach up to 10-feet-high and are accented on the back wall by a marble subway tile. The dramatic waterfall island has a Taj Mahal quartzite top. Lighting is layered and tantamount in the kitchen, from recessed LED lights both above and beneath cabinets, to inside-cabinet fixtures in the upper cabinets, which have bubble-glass doors for an airy feel. The suite of stainless steel Thermador appliances is from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. The bar-height chairs are woven rattan, imparting a casual coastal feel.

Vecchitto designed the interior with a measured approach, picking a thoughtful palette of warm grays, which is neither too modern nor too traditional. “We were going for a transitional look,” she says. “We wanted the house to flow and feel upto-date, yet be timeless. It has the right balance of warmth and coolness with respect to colors and materials.” Furnishings are a mix of upholstered clean-lined neutral pieces, with some color and pattern layered largely through artwork and rugs. The brighter colors of blue and aqua are drawn in from the water outside. u
Above: The master bathroom has textured blue-gray wallpaper from York, adding warmth and intimacy to the luxurious space. The shower features a Sahara Carrara marble tile in an over-scale herringbone pattern, extending to the ceiling. By contrast, the shower flooring is set in a petite hexagonal mosaic. The chandelier and vanity fixture in recycled glass framed in a gunmetal finish are by LyteWorks.
Left: The master bedroom’s coffered ceiling extends to 11-feet. Furnishings are in a coastal cottage-style in white-painted wood and sit atop an aqua blue patterned rug from Rugs as Art. The walls in Sherwin-Williams Quietude borrow their soft color from the exterior pool views.

“One striking architectural feature is the way in which the entire rear of the house opens out onto the expansive pool and lanai area via sliding-glass pocketing doors,” mentions Coulthurst, adding, “It creates a sense of lifestyle with the indoors and outdoors connected. The custom screened pool cage also keeps the entire backyard insect-and-debris-free, while almost doubling the square footage of the living area for entertaining.” n
Above: White wood furniture, accented with natural wood, along with an organic wicker side chair, impart that relaxed Florida look in the guest bedroom. Table lamps with glass bases are from LyteWorks. The walls are painted Sherwin-Williams Rain.
Left: The upstairs family-bonus room opens to a landing overlooking the pool. Furnishings include a leather sofa, loveseat, and armchair, as well as a dark wood coffee table topped in glass. The medallion design carpet adds a dash of pattern to the space. The art and table lamps, including one in a mottled mercury glass, are from LyteWorks.

BEGINNING TO END INTERIORS Colors that emulate the feel of Siesta Key such as whites, creams, and blue-greens were chosen for this remodel to give the master bath a look that is light, airy, and effortlessly clean. Glamourous lighting now fills the recessed ceiling where a dated ceiling fan once hung. Openness was created by leaving any glass unframed, such as the mirrors and shower.

RILEY INTERIOR DESIGN
The goal for redesign of this Sarasota residence according to interior designer Carrie Riley was, “…to create a clean, classically interesting appeal with a touch of opulence in each of the spaces.” To accomplish this, Riley combined tranquil colors and textures set off by the juxtaposition of metallics and interesting patterns in wallcoverings and fabrics. The use of “purposely placed” accessories plays a role in each of the spaces. The kitchen space speaks to this classically chic style with ultra-white cabinetry and statuary marble countertops. The dual island with seating, combined with a rustic table, and chairs in a neutral linen with nail-head finish, adds to the functionality desired by the family of five. The master bedroom is soft and elegant, with pattern noted in the ceiling detail, draperies, and sitting area. A soft metallic in the bedding and sheen in the deep pile rug add comfortable luxury to the space. The master bath retreat, inspired by the owner’s desire for a resort-spa-feel, makes use of specific materials and tones. The symmetry of the room lends to the overall appeal. Dramatic windows in the formal living space are punctuated by neutral draperies with metal hardware corresponding to the staircase design. A similar mix of metallics and pattern is seen in the office. Courtesy of Riley Interior Design, www.riley-id.com

LMG DESIGN CONSULTING
This restful remodel of this condominium residence in Tavira at Bonita Bay, Naples yields vistas of the Gulf below. The contractor and design team worked in tandem to create a turnkey reveal in less than six months. LMG Design Consulting used a palette of soft blue, silvery taupe, and refreshing white. Ombre fabric from Clark and Clark is paired with the periwinkle cocoa bead chandelier. Benjamin Moore Beach Glass, Super White, Silvery Moon, and Winter Solstice was the paint palette used throughout. The living room is anchored by four chairs positioned to capitalize on the water view. The chairs, cocktail table, and consoles were sourced from International Design Source. The now clean-lined and modern kitchen was a complete removal. LMG imagined a concealed walk-in pantry and full sized wine refrigerator. The ultra-white cabinetry contrasts with the distressed barn house finish on the center island and hood over the Wolf gas cooktop. The final touch on this waterfront retreat was the complete remodel of the master bath, creating a walk-in shower, relocating the tub and adjusting the ceiling to mimic the new layout. New custom cabinetry and tile by Abbey Carpet & Flooring are highlighted by the glow of the Regina Andrew Grey Diva chandelier overhead. Courtesy of LMG Design Consulting, www.lmgdesignconsulting.com

HOME & DESIGN 2017 V2
This magnificent estate dubbed Aqua Vita or Water of Life captures the beauty of Longboat Key and Sarasota Bay. The 11,151-square-foot estate was designed by architect Clifford M. Scholz and build by Perrone Construction. A grand front faรงade with second-story balcony overlooking the front courtyard and custom entry leads to the striking interiors of rich wood, ultrawhite walls, and extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows to preserve the views. The home features five en suite bedrooms and upper level master suite with private balcony and elevator access. White kitchen cabinetry with glass display is accented by statuary marble counter tops and stainless steel Wolf appliances. Built for a discerning homeowner, the kitchen details are left for customization by the buyer. A circular great room creates an interesting architectural departure and allows for easy movement from inside to the expansive outdoor living areas. Outside enormous Bay views toward downtown and the Ringling bridge can be enjoyed from upper and lower terraces, and a custom designed pool and spa. Multiple outdoor lifestyle spaces include a fit pit and gazebo. Lush landscaping completes this oasis for Florida living. Courtesy of Perrone Construction, www.perroneconstruction.com

TILE MARKET
Tile Market worked with the homeowner to achieve her vision of a clean, updated look for her home. The client desired a signature look for the kitchen backsplash and wine room that visually related the two spaces. To achieve this, two different graphically inspired patterns were selected that were created using the same color palette. The wine room is clad in a chevron pattern assembled from off-white shades of glass and antique mirror. The backsplash features prominently in the double island kitchen. A water-jet cut arabesque inspired pattern of the same glass and antique mirror as used in the wine room creates the distinctive design. In the two-story living room white quartz split-face cladding on the fireplace gives it a clean white, textured appearance. Rich wood floating shelves and built-in lighted display cabinets flank the fireplace. In the guest bathroom, the neutral tones and simplicity in design are punctuated by a shower wall accent created from a combination of porcelain tile and marble in tones of gray, white, and black providing a dramatic focal point. EPOCH SOLUTIONS The client’s love of art and their collection of glass pieces inspired this modern makeover. The homeowners wanted to update their vacation home, creating a light and airy aesthetic that would showcase the colorful accents of their collection. The simplicity and beauty of the cabinetry assisted in achieving this understated, yet sophisticated backdrop. High gloss upper cabinetry contrasts with the soft horizontal grain veneers of the base cabinetry. The gallery of glass is showcased behind clear glass lift doors above the window and hidden coffee station. As part of the same renovation, Epoch solutions replaced the existing living room wall unit with a built-in design that repeats the high gloss finish of the kitchen and features contrasting floating shelves lit with LED lights to enhance the treasured pieces it displays. POOLS BY DESIGN The lot of this home backs up to a community wall so the customer was looking for something of visual interest to distract from the wall. The split wall water feature with artistry mosaic glass tile and silver travertine coping, and twin sheer descent waterfalls accomplish the goal. The pool is 13-by-27-feet with a midnight-blue pebble interior and silver travertine for the deck and coping.
This gracious outdoor living space fronting a large lake required maximizing the water view for the customer. The infinity edge pool and spa, together with a clear view screen, give that ultimate water-look in this backyard retreat. The pool features a midnight-blue pebble interior, artistry mosaic glass tile, and ivory travertine coping.
This inviting outdoor living area complete with pool, spa, fire pit, and outdoor kitchen, features dual 31-inch Essex brown water bowls. A 12-inch raised spa with 3-foot raised split level water wall is a California gold stone veneer, as is the 2-foot sheer decent spa front with scuppers. The deck is Country Classic travertine. The pool is a brilliant royal blue pebble finish with Noce coping and a slate-look stone waterline tile.
A remodel of a rock pool and deck required the removal of big rocks and a 6-foot high grotto. Transforming the existing area into a modern beauty, Pools by Designed used turquoise poured -glass tile, a blue pebble interior, and ivory coping. The fire bowls are stainless steel sitting on columns with golden-honey colored stone veneer. A curved, 2-foot sheer descent dualwaterfall feature caps it off. To accommodate the large walls of the spa, a step down water feature was used to maximize the effect. Courtesy of Pools by Design, www.poolsbydesignfl.com
