Support Housing, Cultivate New Members Our local Association is the largest in both North Dakota and Minnesota and truly

represents strength in numbers. Whether it is at a picnic or in the halls of the capital, our incredible membership numbers are vital to the success of the Association. As a member, you are the key to our growth. When you speak highly to industry peers about the experiences you have in the Association, it makes a difference in the engagement and the recruitment of new members. Here are three steps to help your peers invest in the homebuilding industry: 1. Ask those you do business with regularly if they are a part of the number-one professional organization in town and, if not, ask them why. 2. Share the experiences and benefits that your business has utilized over the years. Why are you a member? What’s your favorite thing the HBA does? How has it helped you become more professional in your job? What do you love about the HBA of F-M? 3. Connect them with the HBA. Whether it’s sending them to the website or contacting staff or a member of the Membership Committee, someone is ready to listen and share. Every company, owner and employee has a need that the HBA can fulfill. Health insurance, discounts through the National Association of Home Builders, networking opportunities or reduced rates to be part of events like the Home & Garden Show or Parade of Homes, are just a few examples. Being a member pays in so many ways that discounts often add up to cover the cost of annual dues. Don’t Blow It: The Importance of Energy Audits

by Summer Hammond, Education & Development Coordinator Why should you have an energy audit, including a blower door test, performed on your new or existing home? Energy audits: • Identify leaks which are wasting your hard-earned energy dollars. Finding and fixing these leaks cuts down or eliminates drafts in a home, making your customers happier! • Are required by the state of Minnesota • Can result in tax credits and help with green building certifications • Boost home resale values. • Help you make the home air-tight, which is as important as high R-values of insulation in the wall • Help the environment since your newly built home will expend fewer greenhouse gases HBA of F-M hosted a Lunch Session in June covering this topic, taught by Russell Schell, RJ Energy Solutions. Members gathered at an Eid-Co Buildings, Inc., worksite to observe Schell while he performed the energy audit on the home.

The process is performed in two parts inside the home:

1. The actual test: The house is placed in a state of negative pressure and testing equipment reads the resulting pressure inside and outside the house. During this phase, the home should score 3.0 air exchanges per hour (ACH) in order to meet code. The lower the ACG, the better. 2. Thermal imaging camera: If the home’s ACH is 3.0 or higher, the thermal meter is used to

locate areas in which air is escaping from the home. This allows the builder to correct the problems in construction where air leakage occurs.

Air Exchangers In Relation to Energy Audits Compared to ten years ago, homes are being built to keep the extreme elements out. Air exchangers are an important component of tightly built homes as they regulate moisture. They help keep windows dry by regularly exchanging moisture-laden air inside of the home, with fresh air outside of the home. Many home owners are not educated on the cause of the moisture on their windows in the winter, which is usually caused by low air circulation. A certain level of moisture is ok and necessary in a new home. The problem is when excessive moisture builds up and cannot escape.

Requirement & Suggestions

North Dakota Requirements • Does not require homes to have an air exchanger. • As a suggested best practice (not required), builders should have all home owners sign off if they forego installing an air exchanger in their new home. • Does not require blower door testing. • Requires insulation inspection before sheetrock installation Minnesota Requirements • Requires air exchangers. • Requires homes to meet 3.0 ACH. Energy audit/blower door testing costs range from $250 - $850 depending on the level of service and stage of the home. Those considering using tax credits for energy audits should check with an accountant. Eligibility is based on yearly finances.

7 Noteworthy Milestones InIn terms HBC’s Saga of human age, Home Builders Care of F-M

Foundation is a young adult, celebrating its 25th birthday this year. The Foundation has hit some major milestones in terms of fundraising, events and community projects. Here’s a quick look back as we reflect on the first 25 years and look to see what else this young organization can accomplish in coming decades as it continues growing and impacting the F-M area. In 1993, the Foundation was started to focus on raising funds for causes such as skill training, education and projects related to the housing industry, and has stayed true to that purpose.

1. SCHOLARSHIPS

1995: Post-secondary scholarships were established. Over the past 23 years, HBC has awarded over $260,000 and helped over 250 students.

2. FEATURED HOMES

2003: Luxurious Featured Homes were established during the Spring Parade of Homes. Ticket sales have raised over $165,000 in the past 15 years.

5. HOME BUILDERS CARE BUILD FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

2012: HBC built a home with Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity that was the first National Association of Home Builders’ designated green build in the Fargo area. The Foundation, assisted by HBA of F-M, raised $85,000 toward the build in funds, materials and volunteers.

2003: Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo was created by our industry leaders to expose students to the industries though “hands-on” exposure. The Career Expo has connected with over 18,000 students, 42 schools and 50 businesses.

2007: The RENEW House helped provide workforce

2013: HBC became the beneficiary of the Fargo Motor Patrol’s annual Fish Fry. In 2016, the HBC became the sole proprietor of the fundraiser. Over the past five years, HBC has raised almost $53,000 toward scholarships, workforce development, community builds and home rehabilitation through this event.

7. ENDOWMENT

2016: A North Dakota Permanently Restricted Endowment was established for permanent funding for scholarships. Total contributions to date are at $10,000.

Mid-Summer Home Maintenance Checklist After the dust settles on your Independence Day celebration, you may notice that

your home has begun to show the signs of an active summer – both inside and out. Take the time now to do a few maintenance tasks to keep your home humming through the rest of the summer. Keep hot air out. Hopefully you’ve already had your air conditioner serviced this year to ensure it can hold up during a heat wave. Now it’s time to re-check your windows and doors for drafts and air leaks that may have developed with kids more frequently coming in and out of the house. Caulk any seams and re-glaze windows if needed, and replace any worn weather-stripping around doors to help keep cool air from escaping. Also, replace or repair any screens that have tears. Swap your HVAC filter. If your air conditioner has been working overtime this summer, check to see if the filter needs to be replaced. While some manufacturers recommend replacing your filter about once a month, the actual time will depend on your household: how often the air conditioner runs, the number of furry pets in your home, the age of your unit, etc. Secure loose fittings. It’s a good idea to check the railings and posts on your deck to ensure that they are not becoming loose. If you have a play set in your backyard, check to see if any connections need to be tightened. This is especially important during the summer months when play sets get the most use. Drain the rain. Summer rains bring extra water that can take a toll on gutters and downspouts. Visually inspect your downspouts to be sure they are draining away from the foundation. Clear your gutters from the debris that gathers during summer storms. Also be sure there is no standing water around your yard, which attracts mosquitoes and other pests. Water pools around your house also attract termites, so be sure to drain all the excess water. Today’s Families Choosing Multigenerational Households The growth of modern multigenerational households – which once began as a fall-

out from millennials moving back home during the Great Recession – shows no signs of slowing down. Households are now choosing this option to address the needs of other generations as well, including health issues of aging parents and child care concerns of working parents. The latest numbers from 2014 Pew Institute show that nearly 20 percent of the U.S. population lives in households consisting of two or more adult generations. Home builders and remodelers are building and renovating homes to meet the needs of multigenerational households. These designs allow many generations of the same family to live together under one roof yet have private areas as well as combined living space. Features of multigenerational home plans can include in-law suites within the main home and separate living area, and can include kitchenettes and private entrances from the outdoors. Other homes may share the living space but have an additional master bedroom and bath to accommodate privacy for everyone. Builders also frequently include “universal design” features and products, which focus on maximum usability by people of all ages and abilities. Examples include wider hallways, walk-in showers, smooth flooring transitions, and cabinets with pullout drawers. Building professionals who have earned the National Association of Home Builders’ Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation have received training on how to build or renovate a home so that the occupants can live in the home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of their age or mobility level. They have been taught the strategies and techniques for designing and building aesthetically pleasing, barrier-free living environments. While most CAPS professionals are remodelers, an increasing number are general contractors, designers, architects and health care professionals. • The four area mayors from Dilworth, Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo declared June National Homeownership Month in each respective city at a press conference coordinated by the HBA of F-M. • The HBA’s July Golf Outing was sold out! The day had beautiful weather which made for an awesome round of golf! Nearly $1,500 was raised for NDAB-PAC through selling stringballs and mulligans. • The HBA of F-M is looking forward to its Associate Appreciation & Family Picnic Aug. 9. This event will feature a dunk tank to raise funds for Home Builders Care of FargoMoorhead Foundation. • The HBA will be hosting a legislative social to meet new candidates and incumbents running for election. In addition, Candidate Forums will take place to educate members on those running for Moorhead’s city council (including mayor) and Clay County’s commission.

West Fargo has the third largest school district in North Dakota by student population. The Mayor’s favorite West Fargo snack spot: Sandy’s donuts. His favorite thing to do in his free time: Cruise Nights, sporting events (especially when the Sheyenne Mustangs play the West Fargo Packers) and West Fest in the fall.

by Chelsea Diederich, Communications Coordinator It’s 8 a.m. and, stepping into the office of newly elected Mayor Bernie Dardis, I am greeted by a warm smile and a joke about making sure I don’t ask too many hard-hitting questions. His character from the campaign trail to now, sitting in his office as mayor, has held steady. His focus? Listening. “During the campaign I really wanted to listen more than try to develop my own agenda. I thought it was important to truly understand what West Fargo needs,” Dardis says. “The taxpayers want us to be as efficient and as frugal as we possibly can with their tax dollars. Also, there was a lot of feedback on the addition of a library and senior citizen center.” Dardis moved to the area when he attended North Dakota State University. Busy with weekend practices for football, he didn’t have time to go back home often. His freshman college roommate was from West Fargo and would invite him over for Sunday family dinners. Originally from Killdeer, N.D., Dardis appreciated the small-town feel of West Fargo. After meeting his wife Louise in English class, the couple bought their Plains Builder August 2018


first home five houses down from his roommate’s childhood home along the river on Oak Street. Bernie and Louise have been married for 43 years. What keeps him a part of the community over 40 years later? “It’s all about the people. Working with the staff, taxpayers and community organizations is the most enjoyable part. You can tell people have passion for West Fargo,” Dardis says. He has high praise about working with HBA members and staff over the years. “The first thing that comes to mind is that your Association’s public engagement has been amazing. The things the members do within the community is exactly the type of Association citizens need,” Dardis says. He looks forward to the continued relationship and is reminding city staff and commissioners to keep open lines of communication with developers,

Currently, if West Fargo was divided into two zones, there are about 1,100 available lots in one section and approximately 1,600 in the other. Infrastructure would cost around $40 million to fully develop those areas. In addition, Dardis is impressed with the agreements West Fargo has made with Fargo on water. Once the sewer hookup has taken place, there will be 640+ acres of usable land after the lagoons are gone and the land has been developed. Optimistically, this could take as long as ten years, but probably longer. The opportunities in West Fargo continue to be as exciting as ever. The mayor challenges all developers and builders to bring their residential, commercial and multi-family projects forward because West Fargo is open for business!

Trade shows have been a staple event in communities for centuries! Even our very own Red River Valley Home & Garden Show has been a long-standing event for consumers for almost 60 years!

1. Consider the marketing power of over 300 exhibitors. Not only do you have marketing dollars being spent on behalf of you by the Association, but your fellow exhibitors are amplifying the show’s marketing messages. If every exhibitor sent a mailer, advertised the show on social media or placed a radio or TV ad, your marketing efforts are multiplied by 299 other people! 2. People need convenience, and we offer it! This is no longer a question of want or need, people are busier than ever! With online shopping being more convenient than ever, what makes a person need to go outside of their house to make a purchase? One thing the show offers that people can’t experience online is face-to-face interaction. Think about online dating, you might swipe right based on pictures and information you researched online, but you aren’t going to commit to a relationship with that person until you meet in person and see if the product matches up with what you saw online! Consumer research starts online, but the sale often ends in person, take advantage of that opportunity. A consumer might be scoping out potential builders online and then come to the show to meet them. Your competitor is one step ahead when you aren’t there to show off what you could really do for them as a company. Continued on page 33 16

Habitat Builds Home For Single Mom

by Chelsea Diederich, Communications Coordinator Audrey Dominguez, a single mother of four, has been working diligently for the past six years to repair her family’s mobile home. Plagued by constant issues including water damage, black mold and bad wiring, Dominguez has been watching do-it-yourself videos and enlisting help from friends and family. Her only wish was to get her mobile home in a more livable state for her four children ages 4 months to 14 years. With limited funds and time, it seemed as soon as a wall was replaced, the floors needed replacing, then the cupboards started pulling away from the wall revealing more moisture damage. The to-do list just kept growing. She learned about Habitat through her cousin and decided to apply, not expecting to be chosen. When she received the news, Dominguez says, “I burst out crying when Jackie from Habitat called.” This build wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support from the community through volunteerism, donations and sponsorships. See the next page for a list of sponsors. The children are excited about having their own rooms and getting to see the house take shape. While there are still many unknowns including when the house will be complete, the Dominguez family knows that soon they will have a safe haven – a Habitat Home to call their own. This year, Habitat is still trying to raise around $50,000 for the projects being completed in 2018. Future Projects

Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity recently held a press conference to announce its exciting 2019 project. Out of 1,400 Habitat organizations, Lake Agassiz was chosen to partner with Blitz Home Builders. Blitz Home Builders is a non-profit organization that partners with a Habitat for Humanity organization every year. Around 75-90 volunteers travel from around the U.S. to volunteer for ten days and build three homes! The build will take place June 19-29, 2019.

Tariff Trouble

Imposing tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese goods with one-for-one Chinese retaliation will shave onefifteenth of a point off GDP and cost 100,000 jobs by 2019; manageable. Imposing tariffs on $450 billion, as Trump’s suggesting, would have substantive negative economic impacts, and China might retaliate by devaluing its currency - as China only imports $130 billion/year from the U.S. - to offset weaker export growth. The U.S. could then similarly retaliate. Yikes.

Solid Shelter

While May single-family starts are up 18.3% Y-o-Y and multifamily are up 25.1% Y-o-Y, those numbers are deceiving as 5/17 was, by far, the worst month for starts last year! YTD, a better way to compare volatile monthto-month data like this, starts are up a solid 11%, but below the 15% growth rate starts have averaged since their climb began in 2/11. Going forward, 10% growth should be considered excellent.

More Money

In 18Q1, U.S. household wealth increased 1% to a record $100.8 trillion, or 6.83 times disposable income, close to the peak of 6.85 set in 17Q4, and well above the pre-recession 2006 peak of 6.50. These steady increases in household wealth since early 2009 are juicing the economy less than in previous decades because average age is rising, wealth inequality is worsening, and memories of the Great Recession remain fresh.

Extreme Exports

China is the world’s #1 exporter with $2.263 trillion in 2017. Next comes (surprise) the USA, with exports of $1.547 trillion; Germany’s a close third at $1.448 trillion. In distant fourth 24

is Japan, with $698 billion, followed by Netherlands at $652 billion. Canada is 11th at $421 billion, then Mexico at $410 billion. The top three nations export more than the next ten combined. Export activity is highly unequally distributed.

Fine Financing

There is currently a record amount of share buyback activity. While many find this development troubling, it isn’t. First, buybacks really aren’t financial engineering. They total just 2% of stock market value/year, and only 25% of the largest firms that are re-purchasers have EPS as part of their executive pay plans. Second, buyback activity is dominated by firms that specialize in intellectual property, and they can’t productively reinvest all earnings.

Pluralistic Population

2016 was the first year since at least 1790 that the white, non-Hispanic population of the US declined. The number of whites fell by 9,000 between 2015 and 2016, and by 31,000 between 2016 and 2017. Conversely, the minority population increased by 4.7 million between 2015 and 2017. Also, there are for the first time more children who are minorities than whites at every age from zero to nine.

Darn Dwellings

May pending sales of existing houses declined 0.5%, are at a 4-month low, and have declined Y-o-Y for 5 straight months. Similarly, existing home sales in May declined slightly and through 5/18 are down 1.4% compared to January-May 2017. They are down Y-o-Y for three straight months. Lastly, first time mortgage applications for the week ending 6/29 are down 1% Y-o-Y. Is it rising rates, higher prices, or tax changes?

Jumpin’ Jobs

Net June job creation was a strong 213,000, and April and May numbers were collectively revised up 37,000! The unemployment rate rose to 4% from 3.8% as the labor force participation rate pleasantly climbed to 62.9% from 62.7%. Wage growth remained quiescent at 2.7% Y-o-Y; 0.2% M-o-M. This is economic Goldilocks; how long it lasts is the question. Tariffs aside, two more quarter-point Fed rate hikes this year seems appropriate.

Trade Tariffs

Already announced trade tariffs should reduce GDP by 0.1% at peak impact in mid-2019. If widened to include all proposed tariffs including autos, a 10% tariff on $400 billion of Chinese goods and equivalent retaliation, the temporary maximum hit to GDP would be 0.5% by summer 2019. The worst-case scenario, of not a 10% but a 25% tariff on all Chinese imports with retaliation, temporarily depresses GDP 1.5% before lessening.

Mighty Moderation

While June housing starts and permits were disappointing, these data are very volatile, and YTD starts remain up 7.8%; good given the headwinds this sector faces. More interestingly, a key reason the current expansion is now in its tenth year is because housing starts were MIA the first few years of the recovery, due to a glut of foreclosures, and have risen unusually slowly since their recovery began in mid-2011.

Did you know that, within the past 25 years, your Foundation has awarded $260,000 in scholarships to graduates of the Herdina Academy for the Construction trades, and high school and post-secondary students interested in pursuing careers in our industry? Home Builders Care of Fargo-Moorhead Foundation was created in 1993 by the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead. It is a local 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization. HBC Connects With Teachers On ALastWhole New Level month I had an eye-opening experience. For the first time ever, close to 20

high school teachers gathered in the conference room at the Home Builders Care Foundation and HBA of F-M office. They came to learn how the four Cs of education (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity) relate to the trades workforce. They came to learn more about HBC and HBA. They also came to learn how they, as teachers, can help YOU, our members! All of them were engaged, taking notes and asking questions. Education & Development Coordinator Summer Hammond and I spoke about how HBC and HBA can help lead students down a path into the trades. We explained our ability to assist teachers in helping students find this path. Dave Anderson, Dave Anderson Construction, and Dan Parrow, ISR Homes, joined us during the presentation. Dave explained that art class can be just as important as math in our industry. For example, a tile installer is a type of artist, creating beautiful mosaics in homes. He and Dan also spoke about programs like the Herdina Academy for the Construction Trades; Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo; Lego Homebuilding Competition; student tours of the Parade of Homes; career fairs; classroom visits; and the biggest one: scholarships! We all had meaningful conversations with the teachers after the presentation about the needs they have for HBA/HBC. I would like to thank Julie Wellnitz from Moorhead Public Schools who reached out to us regarding this wonderful opportunity. I can’t wait to host another group of teachers at the HBA. HBA and HBC have been engaged in many ways throughout the years with our schools, but this was unique. Through communicating with these teachers in this type of setting, I saw the depth of what we can be doing to assist in getting the K-12 arm engaged in our workforce development efforts through connections with curriculums and thinking outside the box. Job Service of North Dakota projects nearly 22,500 construction-related job opening through 2024. Many of these careers are very fulfilling and education for them can be completed in less time for less cost than a four-year degree. A sure way to guide youth into our industry is assisting educators with the resources that HBA, HBC, National Association of Home Builders and Home Builders Institute provide. We can share how rewarding and lucrative a career can be by entering this industry. We need to host more teacher sessions like this. After the presentation, the HBA/HBC received many thank you notes from the teachers expressing their appreciation for what they took away from the presentation. One West Fargo teacher said, “The connection between tiling work and art was interesting and can be a great connection to real-world activities for students.” This is just the start to an exciting year of witnessing how these local teachers and counselors will apply their new findings to students and guide them on a meaningful path.

MESSAGE

Remodeler’s Council Message Last month the Remodelers Council held a packed agenda meeting to discuss

upcoming projects for the Fall. There are many ramp project on the docket and volunteers have generously taken the lead on them. From gathering a materials list to organizing volunteers, the council hopes to complete two to three projects by the end of September. In addition the council discussed developing a new process for screening requests. As the councils generous work is recognized in the media many requests have come in from those in need and sadly we cannot keep up with them all. Therefore a taskforce was created to identify how we can better work to meet the needs of the community so stay tuned for this taskforce to roll out a new application that you can share with anyone who may ask you how the council can help them or those they are aware of that may need help. In addition there was much discussion on the Remodeled Home Tour. As a representation of the remodelers of the industry the council urges you to talk to your consumers about allowing you to put a home on the tour. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your work and a great way for the industry to show why consumers should stick to hiring a professional versus taking on a DIY fail.

Goetz Paves The Road To Success by Sami Eidenschink, Membership & Marketing Coordinator Growing up in rural North Dakota, Lucinda Goetz found many different hobbies to keep herself and seven brothers and sisters busy One of her favorites ended up being finding a love for cars in her dad’s salvage yard. “Other girls would talk about how much they loved horses, but I loved something with horsepower; anything with a motor!” she says, her face lighting up, as she recalls the falling in love with cars. Though she has been working in the industry for many years, her passion has led her to HBA of F-M member, F. F. Fisher Sales & Leasing. As their business development officer, Goetz has been able to morph her passion for cars, and people into one. “Leasing construction equipment to contractors led me to learning more about the HBA and eventually going to member events and getting involved on committees” Goetz says about her journey to discovering the Association. Goetz has been an active part of the HBA for just under a year but has yet to hit a speed-bump in her involvement. She has taken on the role of vice chair of the Events Committee, has introduced new members to committees and volunteered to help staff with various tasks, including helping with the monumental undertaking of taping booth spaces on the floor of the Fargodome for the Home & Garden Show. F. F. Fisher Sales & Leasing is an annual silver sponsor of the Awards Gala & Annual Meeting and hosted the Chili Cook-Off. Goetz also volunteered to take time out of her day to be a part of the HBA’s strategic planning session, assisting in guiding the future of the association. She has also offered to help Home Builders Care of F-M Foundation by raising funds during the HBA’s July Golf Outing, raffling off a prize for one lucky winner at her sponsored hole.,. “We are all here to connect with one another, but meeting people in the HBA offers a different type of connection. This industry has a lot of genuine people who are all willing to collaborate together to see each other be successful, and that’s what I love about it,” Goetz says, reflecting on her involvement over the last year. When Goetz is not volunteering her time at the HBA she loves to travel, ride motorcycle, enjoy outdoor activities and, finally, bake. “Baking is kind of my thing. I love it. I try to share it as much as I can. My husband and I prepare meals at the Ronald McDonald house and, when we are done, I always try to bake something special and leave it for the residents,” she says. HBA Membership & Marketing Coordinator Sami Eidenschink says, “From the first time I had coffee with Lucinda, I was so excited to have her become part the Association. I love that she is so authentic and truly wants to connect members with each other. I appreciate all she does behind the scenes and am excited to watch her grow in role as chair of the Events Committee.” Goetz continues to pave the way to success for herself and the Association with all of her help. HBA staff and leaders cannot wait to see where this road takes her. Goetz, along with Sandra Vigen, Mama Ducks Cleaning Services, Emily Herbranson, Fabricators Unlimited; Mary Aure, Fargo Tractor; Erick Roder, Signs 4 Work; and two other nominees, will be up for the Extra Mile Award to be presented Oct. 25 at the Awards Gala & Annual Meeting.

Dakota Supply Group’s Karl Wrobel Named To The NEWS’ Top 40 Under 40 List DSG’s Karl Wrobel, branch manager of the company’s La Crosse office, was recently acknowledged as one of the “Top 40 under 40” in the HVAC/R industry by The News, a weekly industrial periodical. Wrobel got his start in the HVAC/R industry working with an HVAC and plumbing contractor before starting his own Texasbased HVAC contracting business in 2001. He then joined DSG (known as W.A. Roosevelt at the time) as a sales manager in 2008, and became branch manager of the La Crosse location in 2014, where he still serves today. Wrobel has been a member of the advisory board at Wisconsin Technical College and is an advocate for the HVAC/R industry through the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. 3. It’s your time to show them what you’re made of. Listen, the days of putting up a folding table and chair in a booth is over. People come to the HBA of F-M’s event to be impressed by unique displays and cool products. If you are investing dollars into this show, you need to invest dollars or time into your booth! Are you stuck and need help thinking of ideas? Contact the HBA of F-M office for help brainstorming. In addition, we understand how exhausting it can be working an entire weekend, but a smile on your face and no distractions is a must. Nothing will turn off a consumer more than an uninterested worker at a booth. Trade shows began as a way to showcase new products all in one place, back before there was a mainstream way to advertise. Even now with a multitude of advertising options (TV, radio, websites, etc.) trade shows are still popular because of their one-stop shopping aspect. Nothing beats the convenience of having everything under one roof, while still being able to discuss certain products or services in person before making large purchases. The Red River Valley Home & Garden Show began in the halls of the West Acres mall and currently fills the lobby, concourse and field level of the Fargodome. With most of our exhibitors returning year after year, it’s important to change up not only the products that are on display, but also the overall design and layout of your booth so consumers aren’t left feeling as though they saw the same thing as the year before. If you are interested in exhibiting in the 58th annual Red River Valley Home & Garden Show, booth sales are now open to all HBA members.
