Published six times per year in addition to the Plains Builder, Permits Plus aims to provide a concise report on building permit numbers and a timely update on Association advocacy efforts.
Fargo Updates Environmental Health Policy Affecting Lots The city of Fargo has updated its policy associated with stagnant water, excavations, dirt piles, noxious or other weeds and tall grass. You can access it at hbafm.com by logging into the member’s only page, or contact Chelsea Diederich at (701) 232-5846 or chelsea@hbafm. com. For more information, contact Fargo Cass Public Health Director of Environmental Health Grant Larson at (701) 241-1388 or glarson@ fargond.gov.
Fargo Mulls Special Assessment Changes HBA of F-M leaders attended public forums hosted by the city of Fargo’s Special Assessments Task Force this month. Specials are an important infrastructure financing tool used in construction and the homebuilding industry. The task force will accept opinions on the changes through an online survey until June 28. Citizens’ ideas will be summarized and presented to the Fargo City Commission. Read more at fargond.gov/citygovernment/boards-commissions/special-assessments-taskforce. Watch HBA communications for updates as the Fargo moves ahead on this issue.
NFIP Reauthorized For 5 Years But Change Is Coming According to the National Association of Home Builders, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee voted June 12 to advance bipartisan legislation that would reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program for five years through Sept. 30, 2024. HBA of F-M is hearing of proposed changes to the NFIP that would significantly change how insurance rates for homes are calculated and assessed. Stay tuned for more details!
New Opioid Crisis Resources Available The National Association of Home Builders has new resources available to you as a member to address the opioid crisis facing the homebuilding industry. People who work in construction are significantly more likely to become addicted to opioids, like prescription painkillers, than other workers in the general population and are six times more likely to die as a result of an overdose. In addition to the health and well-being of the employee, the impact on a business can be significant and includes loss of productivity, healthcare expenses, absenteeism, turnover and much more. Visit nahb.org/opioids.
