Her son, Roland, 21, currently studies at McGill University in Canada, and her youngest, Anna, 18, will be attending community college before heading off to Florida to be part of the Disney University program. There is a level of communication and understanding we share.” Upon returning to California in 2002, Julie moved to Lafayette, where she embarked on a new chapter in a region she feels lucky to have landed in. “We’re blessed to live in an area that’s accessible to so many great places. Whether it’s Napa, Muir Woods, or San Francisco, it’s such a little gem,” she says. “My friends who visit from Europe say ‘This is the California dream we hear about. Fantastic weather, beautiful surroundings and an amazing location close to everything!’” Unlike those who were born and raised locally, Julie built her network from scratch, initially through volunteer teaching at Lafayette’s renowned schools and reaching out to the community. “I worked hard to build personal relationships because I truly didn’t know anyone when I arrived here. Getting involved in the community was a great way for me to meet people, but it didn’t happen overnight. It takes time to develop meaningful friendships,” she says. A naturally driven person, Julie received her license in 2007 amidst the economic downturn, forcing her to learn the nuts and bolts of every aspect of the business. “I really learned from the ground up. I was a new agent,
