Mark Curtis spent three-and-a-half decades as an advertising agency owner and creative director based in Reno, handling a range of clients around the nation. In 1990, he became a founding member of Reno’s first arts commission: C.I.T.Y. (Culture In The Year) 2000. In 1996, he conceived and co-founded Reno’s month-long arts festival, Uptown Downtown ARTown — later shortened to Artown — and marketed the festival through its first eight years. The annual July event grew into America’s largest visual and performing arts festival. Curtis was the 2000 recipient of Reno’s annual Shakespeare Award for “sustained excellence in support of the arts.” He also received the Platinum Star from Truckee Meadows Tomorrow and the 1998 Outstanding Achievement Award from the city of Reno. In 2015, he received the Thomas C. Wilson Award from the Reno chapter of the American Advertising Federation, recognizing his lifetime contributions to the field, and his community involvement. His book is a story about Reno, NV....It’s about how a city born as a railroad town leading up to the Comstock Lode, a city steeped in both sophistication and an inexhaustible anything-goes independence, was perceived as a declining casino town and erstwhile divorce capital by much of the world – then began the long, grueling process of becoming something else. A father of three, Curtis, his wife Valerie and their son, Henry, live in one of Reno’s most historic residences.

Reno Rotary Foundation Election Elections will occur in March for 2 seats on the Board of Trustees for our club’s Reno Rotary Foundation. The term is for 4 years, with attendance and participation at monthly meetings a requirement. Elections will be held later in March. Those interested should send a short bio to Jim Pfrommer, President, at jpfrommer@pfmccpa.com. Deadline is March 15 for nominations

Club Board

Earn your Paul Harris Fellowship Award Fast with 300 Free Recognition Points! If you already have your first Paul Harris Fellowship pin and are working on a multiple PHF, then take advantage of a new policy approved by the club Board of Directors: you can now earn your second or third or higher PHF for a cumulative gift of just $700. The club will award you 300 Rotary Recognition Points to make up the $1000 required for a PHF. That means if you currently have $400 or $500 contributed towards a PHF, you can earn that gem-studded pin for an additional gift of just $300 or $200. Your total contribution would then equal $700, and the club will donate 300 Recognition Points to make up the $1000 needed for your next PHF. If you’re unsure how close you are to your next PHF, you can check your donor history online at www.rotary.org. You can also check with TRF committee chair Anne-Louise Bennett or club treasurer Harvey Fennell.

There’s never been a better time to “ring the bell” at a club meeting! You can designate your gift to the Rotary Annual Projects Fund, Polio Plus, or for a particular Global Grant project. If you don’t want to make your pledge during a club meeting, you can donate directly online or by giving a check to our club secretary, treasurer, or TRF chair. Contact Carl, Anne-Louise, or a club officer to take advantage of this great way to leverage your gifts to The Rotary Foundation. Your contribution will help fund Rotary projects across the globe, plus 50% of all you donate will rebate to our District to augment District Grants, scholarships, and local project grants. New members: remember you can earn your first Paul Harris pin with a contribution of just $400. The club awarded you 100 Recognition Points when you joined, and as soon as your cumulative gifts reach $400, the club will give you another 500 points free, making up the $1000 needed for your first PHF. We’re proud to be Rotarians, doing good in the world!

The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
