THE
Autumn 2022
Summer Holidays! At Home Instead, it’s our aim to be the care provider of choice in York, Scarborough & Ryedale. That’s why Luke and AnnMarie, bought the holiday home in Amble, Northumberland for you to use and enjoy. It’s been wonderful to see so many of our team
making use of the holiday home for their ‘staycations’ over the course of the summer! The holiday home is still available to book until November so, if you fancy a welcome break now the School holidays are over, get in touch with Jack.
Yorkshire Energy Doctor shares information During Julys Care Pro Meeting we had Kate Urwin, the Yorkshire Energy Doctor along with us for an informative session on fuel poverty and all things energy safety. Kate informed us of a couple of important pieces of information, which we thought we would share with you, so you can be having a look into whether they would work well for you, or your loved one. The first was the Priority Services Register, which all our clients are eligible to sign up for, for free. The register is used when in an emergency such as, a storm or flood, which causes power or gas to go off. Everyone on the Priority Services Register, is prioritised to get power back up and running as soon
as possible. To register for the Priority Services Register, please visit https:/www. northerngasnetworks.co.uk/networksupply/priority-customers/ and enter partner code 006.
Kate also let us know about a really useful safety device, which we’ve never come across before! The Locking Cooker Valve. This simple safety device is fitted to existing gas cooker pipework and allows a Care Pro or relative to control gas supply using a key. When the valve is locked, the gas supply to the cooker is stopped eliminating the risk of the cooker being unintentionally turned on or left on, giving peace of mind that the cooker can’t be used, when a Care Pro or relative leave the house or room. For more information on how to get a Locking Cooker Valve fitted, free of charge, please visit: www.northerngasnetworks. co.uk/network-supply/locking-cooker-valve
Feel Good Friday
Go on
you’ve earned it
From all of life’s little emergencies to those must-haves and treat yourself moments, get instant access to the pay you’ve already earned in 3 easy steps.
You will have hopefully seen a new communication we have started sending out, called ‘Feel Good Friday’. As a team we do some amazing work and we also have individual achievements to celebrate - work related and personal. We want to share this with the whole team, clients and their families. Jack will do his best to choose some of the most positive events of the week, but please do share your news with him to include if you have something going on that you’d like to share such as a special birthday, wedding anniversary or a new arrival in the family. It’s a great way for everyone to get to know each other better and hopefully a more positive way to end the week than watching the news! You can email Jack on jack.fisher@ york.homeinstead.co.uk or post it in the Facebook group.

Keep an eye out for communication on Access Early pay over the next couple of weeks!
Due to lower numbers of COVID-19 infections being seen in the community, it has now been decided that ASYMPTOMATIC testing will be paused for now until further notice. This means that UNLESS you have any symptoms of COVID-19 or that you have been in contact with someone who has a current infection then you do not need to routinely test. Note that should cases begin to rise again, it’s likely public health England will re-introduce regular testing. Should you require any test kits, please don’t hesitate to call into the office.
‘Take a Seat’ on First Bus Earlier in the year, we launched our ‘Take a Seat’ initiative with City of York Council and Age Friendly York. Through research conducted by Age Friendly York, older residents said they would benefit from additional places to rest their legs and that there was a real lack of toilet facilities available, when out and about in our city. We therefore came up with the idea of ‘Take a Seat’, which aims to signpost people to businesses that have a seat or facilities available for use. Those taking part in the initiative display a sticker in their window, that indicates
whether a seat, facilities or, both are available. Already, over 50 local businesses throughout York, have signed up and displayed a sticker in their window. You can see a full list of these, by visiting: https://www.homeinstead. co.uk/york/take-a-seatinitiative/ We’re delighted to have also been able to promote ‘Take A Seat’ on First Buses in York. First Bus very kindly allowed us to feature an A3 poster with details on the initiative, to inform their passengers of Take a Seat and to be keeping an eye out for the stickers around York.
Joan wins raffle hamper Last month we had a stall at Easingwold Market, where we chatted with the passers-by about our services and the positions available to join our team. We we’re also there to raise donations for our charity, Home instead Charities, by selling cakes and raffle tickets, to win a Home Instead hamper. In total we raised £110, which will go towards bringing joy to the lives of older people
in your local communities. Big thank you to anyone who bought a cake or a raffle ticket! The lucky winner of the hamper was Joan, who called into our office yesterday to pick up her prize! Congratulations, Joan!
Welcome to Paul We’re delighted to welcome our new Head of Care, Paul Brandreth to the team! Paul joined us in early August and will be responsible for the overall quality of care we provide to each client. You may have already spoken to Paul over the last few weeks, but if not, he will be one of your main ports of call, should you have any client related issues. We hope you will join us in making Paul feel welcome and part of the team.
Welcome!
