Baking our way to a better future We are whisking up another fantastic fundraising treat for you all to enjoy. Join us on the 25th June to raise some (cookie) dough for Bring Joy Foundation and help us bake a better future for ageing adults in our community. To mark the end of National Loneliness Week and hopefully the end of COVID restrictions, we are inviting you into the office to take part in The Bring Joy Bake, so come join us for a cuppa, grab a slice of cake (or bring your own) and help us raise money for the Bring Joy Foundation. The Bring Joy Foundation are the charity of Home Instead. Their vision is to help local community groups and organisations to bring joy and happiness into the lives of our elderly communities. They do this by funding local community events that enhance and enrich the lives of seniors to combat loneliness and sometimes isolation ensuring seniors stay fit, active, healthy and more importantly connected and contributing to their local communities. Getting older brings

many challenges but also many opportunities. The Bring Joy Foundation help to fund activities including day trips to the seaside and stepping out at a vintage tea dance to gardening and golf lessons.

Amble Holiday Home Availability

Farewell to Lorna We’re sad to announce that Care Manager, Lorna Hoegh will be leaving the organisation in June. Lorna has worked for Home Instead for nearly six years, fulfilling a range of different roles after originally starting as a parttime CAREGiver back in 2015. In her role as Care Manager, Lorna played a key part in the organisation being awarded a CQC outstanding rating in September 2018. We would like to wish Lorna all the best with her future and thank her for all her hard work over the years, you will be missed by all the team.

Lorna had the following to say, about her upcoming departure: The time has come for me to reassess my life and so, for that reason, I am taking some time out from working. I plan to devote more time to my children, myself and the things that bring me joy in life. I have loved working with (most of) you lovely lot and shall miss you dearly. Thank you for all your hard work and co-operation along the way, you’ve been a credit to the company. Donations of cake prior to me leaving will be most gratefully received!

Update on expenses procedure At the start of the pandemic, to comply with restrictions and keep clients safe, we took the temporary decision that if a client wasn’t able to go shopping or didn’t have access to cash, that CAREGivers could pay using their own card and we would reimburse anything over £20.00 immediately. Following the lockdown restrictions easing and to put the onus back on clients, we have decided to revert to the original expenses’ procedure. From 1st July 2021, clients will be required to pay for any shopping/ expenses using their own card or cash.

We will no longer be reimbursing CAREGivers immediately for shopping expenses. If you do end up spending money on your own card, (which you should discourage) the receipts should be collated together and submitted at the end of the month, to be paid along with your monthly pay and included on clients’ invoices. We apologise if this brings about any awkward conversations with clients who you have been shopping for over the last year, but the time has come for us to bring an end to this temporary arrangement. If you do have any questions, please just give us a call.

With lockdown measures easing, we have seen lots of interest in our Company Holiday Home in Amble. If you’re thinking of going, we only have the following dates remaining available over the summer. Contact us now, if you’d like to book one of them in!

A helping hand post-lockdown There is no doubting the last year has been difficult for everyone, but it has been especially so for our elderly population. The covid-19 pandemic and resulting months of lockdown restrictions have brought with it increased cases of loneliness and isolation and confidence in leaving the home alone, is lower than ever before. We want to play our part in helping our clients regain their confidence. To coincide with expected easing of lockdown measures in June, we will be running a summer campaign to encourage our clients to get back out into the community once more. Throughout the months of July, August and September, we will be offering a promotional rate, of £20 per hour for additional hours of our companionship service.

With your accompaniment, we hope that our clients will be much more open to navigating life post lockdown and take advantage of our summer promotion. Why not have a chat with your clients about our summer campaign? They will all be written to with further details, but why not suggest organising a trip out somewhere one afternoon. If you would be available to pick up any extra hours, to help with additional companionship calls over the course of our summer campaign, please let us know! *Please note: all visits are subject to availability of CAREGivers, the promotional rate is only available on additional companionship visits and any mileage and/or expenses occurred during the visit will be charged direct to the client. *
