York River Art Market
August 2017
Congratulations to Val and Gill who last month both completed their Care Certificate. Well done ladies!
York River Art Market is a beautiful summertime, riverside arts event. Artists from all over Yorkshire and beyond exhibit and sell their unique artworks. The event takes place every Saturday 9.45am – 6.00pm up to and including the 2nd September. The market is situated between Marygate car park and Lendal Bridge along Dame Judy Dench Walk beside the River Ouse. It’s a wonderful atmosphere with a creative buzz – a must for your Saturday afternoon if you are in York!
Debbie’s travels Our CAREGiver Debbie travelled 1,000’s miles to Nova Scotia, Canada for a welcome holiday. On the first evening she arrived in Halifax N.S. the weather was so lovely she went for an evening walk down the main street. Everywhere closed at 7.00pm, but there were lots of interesting windows to look in. Debbie was drawn, somehow to a familiar coloured sign on a large building. There it was – Home Instead Halifax Nova Scotia. She could not believe it, the first thing she came across after travelling so far. Sadly, they were closed and Debbie left Halifax early the next day or she would have popped in.
Heart of York bike ride Cycle from the city of York, through the scenic moors and countryside of North Yorkshire, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Spread the message of the BHF and support the 22,990 local people who are fighting serious heart and circulatory conditions. Experience an exciting challenge and choose from a 22 mile or a 40 mile route and join the fight for every heartbeat. The ride takes place on Sunday 3rd September 2017 and your entry will include: Training Guidance, fundraising Support, Heart of York T-shirt and a medal for all finishers. To find out more go to www.bhf.org.uk.
Quality Matters The Care Quality Commission (CQC) along with the Department of Health have worked together to produce an approach to providing care which puts the needs of the person right at the very heart of everything. You will recognise the type of care that is championed as the care that Home Instead is all about delivering. The office team are working hard to ensure that things like our Care Plans and all our processes support this approach so bear with us if you see a few things changing over the next few months. We are hopeful that CQC will recognise the fantastic quality of care you give during their next inspection visit due towards the end of the year. A short and easy to read version of the report ‘Quality Matters’ is now on the CAREGiver Information Portal so take a look and if you have any suggestions on how you think we can improve the things we do then let us know. Go to www.caregiversupport.co.uk for access to the CAREGiver portal.

Memory Walks 2017
Andy’s Advice
Last year the Alzheimers Society organised a series of walks across the country to promote, raise awareness and raise donations for a world without dementia. They are doing it again this year with the aim of getting over 100,000 people to join them. Currently, the nearest walks are The Knavesmire, York on 3rd September and Hull, which will take place on 10th September or Leeds on the 23rd September 2017 and new walks are being added regularly. Alternatively, you can even organise your own walk. People of all ages, from grandparents to grandchildren, and even furry four-legged friends are welcome and to find out more and register for a walk you can go to www.memorywalk.org.uk.
Documentation is highly important when supporting our clients. The paper trail is used as part of communication and as a standard to local authorities and CQC. Remember to complete all relevant documents during your call and ensure there are spare copies within the journal. It’s a good idea to carry spares on you, so then next time you’re in the office be sure to stock up!
Exclusive CAREGiver Holiday Home
It’s our aim to be the care provider of choice in York and Ryedale, whether it is for people working in care or for those receiving care. That’s why we bought the holiday home at Amble Links for the people who do an amazing job supporting Home Instead Senior Care clients. As well as the incredible beaches and castles of Northumberland on the doorstep, there’s a pool and gym together with a pub and restaurant on site – everything you need for a relaxing break. There’s no rental cost to use the holiday home – this is one of the benefits of being part of the Home Instead team. We just ask for a small contribution of £70 towards gas, electricity and running costs each time you stay.
To make an enquiry as to availability please contact the office on: 01904 690884 or email: info@hiscyork.co.uk
