Home Instead welcomes four new CAREGivers to the team Last month we held our first new CAREGiver Introduction programme of the year. Four fantastic new members of staff joined us for the 3 day course, supplying them with all the training needs required to start providing care to our clients in the near future. Also in attendance was a special guest, Mac, a trainee guide dog who joined us with his trainer Helen. Mac sat patiently throughout and we think he would make a superb CAREGiver himself!

Keep up to date! We have gone through and updated some of the useful documents on your CAREGiver website www.caregiversupport. co.uk. We recommend the next time you login, you spend a little time going through to familiarise yourself with some of these. If anyone is having issues with accessing the website, please let us know.
Carol’s Advice Meeting new clients can be an anxious time for both CAREGiver and Client. Unless requested by the client there should be an introduction in place before the first meeting. It is also vitally important that you have had and read the care plan in good time before your first visit. If you are scheduled to a new client you haven’t met, give the office a call to check that an introduction is planned and to request a Care Plan.
CAREGivers receive their certificates We love a care certificate sign off here at Home Instead Senior Care York & Ryedale. Here’s CAREGivers Emma, Jill, Janet and Tracey collecting theirs after putting in some great work over the last few weeks!

Book review
Another addition to our CAREGiver book resource
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M P Irsig This book caused a sensation when it was first published in 1974. The story of the narrator, his son Chris and their month-long motorcycle odyssey from Minnesota to California profoundly affected an entire generation. Both personal and philosophical, this book is a compelling study of relationships, values, madness and, eventually, enlightenment.
Now wash your hands! Washing your hands is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself and clients from illnesses such as food poisoning and flu. Washing your hands properly should take about as long as singing “Happy Birthday” twice (around 20 seconds). Always wash your hands: ▲ after using the toilet ▲ after handling raw foods like chicken, meat and vegetables ▲ before eating or handling ready to eat food
diarrhoea. Using soap and water is sufficient to remove dirt, viruses or bacteria and can reduce the risk of diarrhoea by nearly 50%. Have a look at the video www.nhs.uk/Livewell/ homehygiene/Pages/how-to-wash-yourhands-properly.aspx
