★★★★★ 5 Star feedback from families The team at Home Instead Senior Care are always very proud to receive positive reviews from clients. Our aim is to provide a standard of care and support that we would be happy for our own families to receive. It means a lot when our clients or their

families take the trouble to give their feedback and recognise the effort that our CAREGivers have made. Earlier this month, Christine, the daughter of two of our clients, provided this fantastic feedback via the independent review service homecare.co.uk

“Home Instead Senior Care (York & Malton) have been absolutely amazing and I can’t praise them highly enough. Every member of the team has shown respect, concern and a determination to do their absolute best for my parents. As a result, mum and dad feel secure seeing the same friendly faces every week and this allowed me to feel more relaxed knowing they are being so well looked after.” Thank you.

Julia’s day out with Jean CAREGiver Julia took some pictures of her recent trip out with her client Jean. They went to York Minster and lit candles, admired the flower boxes at Dean Court Hotel and then went for a cuppa at Cakes D-licious at Clifton Green. Have you been out and about with a client of yours recently? Send us your pictures of what you’ve been up to!

where the light gets in by Lucy Dillon is an inspiring, life-enhancing and evocative novel which tugs at the heartstrings. The main character, Lorna, goes home to fulfil a long-held dream, but she knows, deep down, there are ghosts she needs to lay to rest first. This is where her tight-knit family shattered into silent pieces. It’s where her unspoken fears about herself took root and where her own secret, complicated love began. It’s not exactly a fresh start. But as Lorna – and the little dog – tentatively open their cracked hearts to old friends and new ones, facing hard truths and fresh promises, something surprisingly beautiful begins to grow into something so inspirational. If you would like to borrow, recommend or donate a book get in touch with Karen.

CAREGivers Sarah (above) and Carolyn both celebrated long service with Home Instead York & Ryedale last month. Sarah has now been here two years, while Carolyn celebrated completing her first year as a CAREGiver. Congrats!

Cupcake Day for Alzheimer’s Home Instead York & Ryedale baked for this year’s annual Cupcake Day. The aim of the day is to nationally raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society to enable them to continue the great work they do. Dementia devastates lives. In the UK, someone develops dementia every three minutes, and there is currently no cure. Until the day they find a cure, the Alzheimer’s Society will be there

for anyone affected by dementia – wherever they are and whatever they’re going through. Hosting a Cupcake Day means you get to enjoy some tasty treats with your workmates, friends and family knowing you are helping them work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society have raised over £1.4 million since 2016, by holding the annual Cupcake Day.

When it’s HOT, HOT HOT! Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it’s too hot for too long there can be health risks. If a heatwave hits this summer, make sure the hot weather doesn’t harm you or anyone you know. The very young, the elderly and the seriously ill are the groups who are particularly at risk of health problems, in particular, very hot weather can make heart and breathing problems worse. Knowing how to keep cool during long periods of hot weather can help save lives and it’s mostly common sense. The main risks posed by a heatwave are dehydration, overheating, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. To keep cool here are some useful tips: ▲ Shut windows and close curtains when it is hotter outside than in. You can open them for ventilation when it’s cooler. ▲ Stay out of the sun particularly between 11am and 3pm. ▲ Keep rooms cool and have cool baths and showers or splash with cool water. ▲ Drink cold drinks regularly but avoid tea, coffee and alcohol. ▲ Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat if you go outdoors. If someone does feel unwell, get them somewhere cool to rest. Give them plenty of fluids to drink and seek medical help if symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pain, confusion, weakness, dizziness or cramps get worse or don’t go away.

Competition Winner

Congratulations to CAREGiver Ruth who was the lucky winner of a £25 restaurant voucher. Ruth’s name was picked out of a hat containing the names of all CAREGivers who came into the office to complete the PEAQ Survey during PEAQ week. Enjoy, Ruth!
