Wishing our CAREGiver Daphne a happy retirement
CAREGiver of Home Instead Senior Care York, Daphne, came in to see us at the end of last month as she recently took the decision to retire from her role. Daphne will be greatly missed by the office team and all her clients that she built up great relationships with over the last three years. Daphne was also a key part of our monthly ‘Companionship Cafés’, which we were hosting at Dean’s Garden Centre on Stockton Lane, before lock down. Daphne attended the event to offer her expert support to those in attendance each month. We are incredibly grateful as Daphne has kindly agreed to continue to volunteer her time to support us when we are able to safely restart the Companionship Cafés. Wishing you a happy retirement Daphne!
Home Instead passes important milestone The brand new Home Instead Senior Care Scarborough & Ryedale franchise has passed an important milestone by successfully registering with the care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), to provide services to elderly people in Scarborough and Ryedale. Managing Director, Luke, and the Care Manager, Becky, both successfully completed the CQC vetting process and as a result Home Instead is now registered to provide personal care. Having successfully run the Home Instead franchise in York since 2009, owner, Luke, is now bringing Home Instead’s trademark high quality care at home to older people in Scarborough and Ryedale. Here’s what Luke had to say on the opening, “It is particularly important in these challenging times that elderly people’s needs are considered. Home Instead can assist with a range of daily living activities such as shopping, meal preparation, washing and dressing, but just as importantly with companionship and, when the time is appropriate, going out.” The service is intended to help people maintain their quality of life as they grow older. If you would like to find out more please contact Care Manager Becky Volans on 01723 333022.
Home Instead CAREGivers make the perfect Care Friends It’s people like you who make Home Instead special and enable us to do the very important job we do every day. We’re always looking for more amazing CAREGivers to join our outstanding team, people who make a difference to our clients and provide them with the best possible care. You will already have a network of friends and family on social media who would make great CAREGivers. We want to make it simple for you to recommend us as a great place to work and to reward you for doing so. To make it easier for you to refer people to us we are launching a new referral app called Care Friends and it’s really easy to do. Download the app from Google Play store or Apple App store and use the code hys-235. Once that’s done you can start earning points and share our CAREGiver role with your friends. You will get a point for sharing a job, 2 points for someone expressing an interest, 50 points when they complete the initial CAREGiver Programme, 75 points on completion of shadowing calls and a further 75 points when they reach 3 months in post. There’s even an additional 25 point bonus for anyone who is new to care. The points add up and you can convert them to cash (1 point = £1) whenever you wish and we will pay you via payroll. So get downloading, become a Care Friend, earn points and enjoy seeing our CAREGiver team grow.
Client mileage reminder Just a reminder that from the start of July you should have all been recording client mileage via the IQ Mobile app. Just select the ‘add additional mileage’ option when it comes to clocking out. If you are having any problems with this, please let Jack know as soon as possible.
Don’t forget to read Kerry’s message on the back page.
100 and

Home Instead York client, Walter, marked his 100th birthday last month with some socially distanced celebrations. Congratulations Walter, it looks like you had a wonderful day!
James inspired to raise money for St Leonard’s Hospice Inspired by Captain Tom, Home Instead Senior Care client James marched 50 laps of his local park throughout the course of May to raise money for St. Leonard’s Hospice.
Accompanied by CAREGiver Lisa, James, who has autism, marched along to ‘Is This the Way to Amarillo’, after seeing Peter Kay’s sketch on the BBC’s ‘The Big Night In’ a few weeks back. James has so far raised an incredible £915.00 for St Leonard’s
Hospice. If you would be interested in sponsoring him, a ‘Just Giving’ page has been set up, just search for ‘The Amarillo Challenge’. Congratulations James, and huge thanks to Lisa, who was with James every step of the way!
Douglas marks D-Day landings Client of Home Instead York, Douglas, was one of York’s last three Normandy veterans to gather in York’s Memorial Gardens, to mark the 76th anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. CAREGiver Mel, who accompanied Douglas to the memorial service, described it as her proudest moment as a CAREGiver.

Since the introduction of the online logs, the feedback has generally been very positive from CAREGivers and clients. The information that is being provided by you all is insightful and allows us to react to any issues or concerns quickly. You have shown great enthusiasm and willingness in moving into using IQ, and we are incredibly grateful for this, as we appreciate that for some
of you, embracing technology is not necessarily a strong point. One thing that is hugely important though, is to ensure that you proofread your notes before submitting them to the app and continue to use appropriate and respectful language at all times. If you require any further training on this, please do not hesitate to have a chat with the office team.
