CAREGiver of the Year 2019
Huge congratulations to Bex Taylor who we’ve nominated as Home Instead Senior Care York & Ryedale’s CAREGiver of the Year for 2019. Bex has been part of the CAREGiver team for nearly 5 years now, getting by with the help of her trusty bicycle, a great mode of transport in the summer but a little more challenging in the winter… She actually does so many miles that she has to replace her bike every 18 months! During her time as a CAREGiver, Bex has supported around 26 regular clients and has become invaluable to all those she sees. Well done Bex, congratulations from everyone for a welldeserved nomination.

Enjoying the sun with your clients
We’ve been enjoying some great weather over the last month or so and it’s really great seeing pictures of your clients out and about enjoying the sunshine. Two different CAREGivers sent across pictures over the Bank Holiday weekend of client Elizabeth, who said she was really pleased as she has managed to have her lunch outside twice now this year thanks to the glorious weather,

and that her garden is her favourite place. Julie also sent this great photo of her clients Diane and Edgar, again sat out enjoying the Easter sunshine in their garden. Keep sending your pictures in, they’re lovely to see. If you can make sure you ask for permission, we can then use them in future editions of The Elder/Companion if they are happy to be featured.
If you’d like to add an article to next month’s edition of The Companion, please contact Jack by the 3rd June. You can tell us about an event that’s happening or about something you’ve achieved – we’d love to hear from you. Just give Jack a call or email him at

Ready, set… Bake! We don’t really need an excuse to have a cuppa and a slice of cake here at Home Instead York, so what better way to raise some cash than to sign up to the Alzheimer’s Society annual Cupcake Day! Held on the 13th June, if you would like to be involved, either bake us a cake and bring it into the office for your colleagues to enjoy, or just send us a picture! Even better, why not spend some time baking with a client? For every bake we see, we will donate £5 to the Alzheimer’s Society. Don’t fancy yourself as a star baker? Feel free to just pop into the office and enjoy a cuppa and a slice on the 13th June, we will have a charity box where you can leave your donations!
Dave joins the ‘Gold Club’ Big well done to CAREGiver Dave who recently joined our ‘Gold Club’, a group of CAREGivers who have all completed over 5 years of service with Home Instead York & Ryedale! Lynn also celebrated last month as she came in to see Karen following completing her first year of service with us. Great stuff guys, delighted to have you as part of our fantastic team of CAREGivers!
Pursuing Excellence by Advancing Quality PEAQ week is fast approaching! During the week Monday 3rd – Friday 7th June, we will be inviting you all in to the office to complete our annual employee satisfaction questionnaire ‘PEAQ’. There will be lots going on in the office, and we will even have our very own ‘PEAQ n Mix’ sweet collection for you to come and help yourself to. PEAQ is your opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions on what it is like to be a Home Instead Senior Care employee. In the past this questionnaire has provided valuable feedback so that we have been able to make those changes that matter most to you. PEAQ is managed independently by research company Work Buzz and is completely anonymous, so you can be open and honest with your opinions. We are committed to making Home Instead the employer of choice and we really need your help to enable us to achieve this vision. Each employee who completes the survey will be entered into a national prize draw to win £1,000 of LOVE2SHOP vouchers. Locally we will also be holding our own prize draw for a chance to win a £25 voucher! Clients of Home Instead Senior Care will also be sent a postal copy of PEAQ, so they are able to provide their feedback, so if you spot this around the house, please encourage your clients to complete the survey. We look forward to seeing you all during PEAQ Week!
What do you think? Your chance to share
Jayne and Kerry step into the office We’ve had two new starters join us in the office over the last few weeks. Say ‘hello’ to Jayne and Kerry! Both previously CAREGivers, but will now be taking up more office-based roles of Administrator and Key Player Assistant respectively. Kerry kindly brought in cakes for her first day, as she knows we are way too easy to please… Best of luck in your new roles guys!
