Luke becomes trustee at national charity

Tremendous support for Macmillan Cancer Last month we took part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Many thanks to all of you who got involved by sending in pictures of your bakes. In total, we raised £80 for an amazing cause!

Owner of Home Instead York, Luke Norbury, has become a trustee with a national charity, The Home Instead Senior Care Bring Joy Foundation, which was founded to bring joy into the lives of older people across the UK. Luke joined the charity this month as a new trustee. Luke comments: “My aim at Home Instead is to enable older people to carry on living in their own homes, improving quality of life for them and their families.” The Bring Joy Foundation is the charitable arm of home care company, Home Instead Senior Care, whose mission is ‘To become the most admired care company through changing the face of ageing’. The charity itself is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the lives of older people across the UK. It does this by funding local community events that enhance and enrich the lives of older people with a focus on combating loneliness and preventing isolation, both of which are real issues amongst the elderly. Luke adds: “By becoming a trustee of the Bring Joy Foundation I hope to set a positive example of how the public and private sector can come together to put some fun and adventure back into the lives of older people and reduce the loneliness that many sadly experience.” The Bring Joy Foundation has supported trips to the seaside, provided funding to support regular tea parties and during lockdown has funded the purchase of tablet technology to allow older people to remain connected with family and friends. With Christmas just around the corner, we thought we would let you all know our plans for this year. We have bought every client a Christmas gift, which we would really appreciate your help in delivering to them over the next few weeks.

As a way of saying Merry Christmas and to thank you for all your incredible hard work in this year that has been like no other, we also have a £20 gift card for you all to use towards your Christmas shopping. Along with this, we are running a ‘Be a Santa’ campaign where we are asking you to

Care Managers Lorna and Kerry both recently became ‘Cancer Champions’ by attending a Cancer Champion Awareness Session with Humber, Coast and Vale Cancer Alliance. The free awareness sessions teach people about the key facts, statistics, symptoms and screenings which are linked to a number of cancers. Now Lorna and Kerry are Cancer Champions, they are equipped with the knowledge needed to raise awareness about cancer, engage in conversations which could help to reduce the risk of cancer and encourage early diagnosis of cancer – when treatment could be simpler and more successful.

Session dates:

Thursday 19th November 10.30am

The session was hosted by Sarah, who is also a CAREGiver part time with us here at Home Instead York. She came in to deliver Lorna and Kerry’s certificates last month. Keep an eye out as 2021 is going to be the year of the Cancer Champion. Sarah and her team are going to put on specific sessions just for Home Instead employees, so if you can’t get on one of the public online sessions featured below, then don’t worry as there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the coming months. Many thanks to Sarah and her colleagues for an informative session on an incredibly important subject.
