Care Quality Commission - Achieving Outstanding
Hopefully 2021 is going to be a much more positive year and as concerns about COVID-19 recede we can focus on preparing ourselves for achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating again when the Care Quality Commission (CQC) assess us against the standards of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive & Well Led. Despite the challenges of the last year we have not rested on our laurels and have continued to develop our care services against the CQC standard to ensure we are delivering care that is right and personalised to all our client’s needs. Family access to IQ and our ability to audit and review our care as it happens take us a long way in achieving what the standard is all about. We have invested in developing our CAREGivers and the office team and we continue to receive super feedback and comments about our services. We don’t know when CQC will decide to assess us but we are determined to be ready! Watch this space as we continue our journey to change the face of ageing and hopefully achieve a CQC rating that represents the quality of personalised care that our CAREGivers deliver.

Douglas on Look North
Home Instead York Client, Douglas was interviewed recently by BBC Look North for an independent study, funded by Home Instead
UK, that The University of York are conducting into home care. The University aim to identify the effects of receiving care in your own home, compared to in a care home, understand a bit more about the service Home Instead delivers and use Douglas as an example of showing the fantastic relationships that clients can build with their Home Instead CAREGivers. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Douglas’s CAREGiver Mel, who helped organise the interview, and featured herself in the Look North report. But of course, a special thank you should go out to the real ‘star of the show’ Douglas!

There’s an abundance of health and care apps available. That’s why it’s difficult to know what you should use to boost your own wellbeing. ORCHA gives you a library of hand-picked apps, which have all met quality assurance and gone through rigorous reviews. 85% of health and care apps don’t meet their standards, so ORCHA has worked hard to highlight ones that are effective enough. It gives older people the ability to manage their health successfully with some tried-and-tested resources. And to make this even better, you don’t need to be a Home Instead client to use the service. We’re making this available to all, so share with family and friends if you think it will help.

Beware of scams!
Be wary of people offering or selling:
Protect yourself and others:
• Vaccines or miracle cures – you will be sent an invitation by the NHS • Over-priced or fake goods • Shopping or medication collection services – many shops will deliver free and your surgery or pharmacy can help deliver prescriptions • Offers to clean your home of coronavirus.
• If you’re unsure, check with family and friends before accepting offers of help • It’s OK to refuse or ignore approaches. If someone tries to pressure or rush you, they are unlikely to be genuine • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is • Only buy goods or services from trusted sellers • Think carefully before parting with money or personal information.
For advice on scams call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 2231133 or email public.protection@york.gov.uk
We are delighted to introduce to you our new name and logo. Over the course of this year, you’ll begin seeing the new Home Instead name and logo more and more in our communications, signage and community outreach efforts. The Home Instead name Since being founded 16 years ago, the Home Instead UK network has expanded far and wide across the country. We’ve positively impacted the lives of millions of clients and families, and we’ve continually sought out new and innovative ways to support those who trust us with their care. By removing ‘Senior Care’ from our name, we’re showing our commitment to helping individuals age well at home wherever they are on their ageing journey. That still – and always will – includes serving seniors, a privilege that is ingrained in what we do.
About our new logo
When Lori and Paul Hogan started Home Instead in the US in 1994, they set out to redefine what it meant to care for ageing adults. This was an experience that was very near and dear to them after fostering a warm and joyful environment at home for Paul’s Grandma Manhart to
thrive in until she was just three months shy of her 101st birthday. After seeing first-hand how human connection contributed to Grandma Manhart’s happiness, vitality and growth, Paul and Lori selected the tulip as the symbol for Home Instead: an icon that reflects optimism, hope, continued growth and friendship. The circle surrounding the tulip in our new logo symbolises a full life and the community of support that contributes to one’s wellbeing and the continuation of growth and experiences to come. Throughout the years, Home Instead has remained steadfastly committed to our mission: to enhance the lives of ageing adults and their families. This remains – and will always remain – the same: we’re deeply committed to providing the same level of compassion, care and support needed to fulfill a joyful and quality life at home. Our transition to Home Instead and our new logo does not change that; in fact, it amplifies it.
