Len Celebrates 100th Birthday! In May we were delighted to help longstanding client Len celebrate his 100th birthday. To mark this truly special occasion we presented Len with a new DAB radio so he can tune in to listen to all his favourite programmes. Len wrote a thank you note and said, “An easy to use radio was exactly what I needed. The sound quality is excellent. A splendid thought. May I add that it is a pleasure to know your staff, who give me great support.
Cup Cake Day – 16th June
Jogging memories with jigsaws Sometimes getting clients to engage with us can be tricky, however one of our CAREGivers who was struggling to get her client interested in even doing a jigsaw came up with a great solution. She found out that the lady she was caring for had been brought up on a farm so she found a jigsaw with farm animals on it. Problem solved, they are both now jigsawing regularly!

Newby Hall & Gardens This summer Newby Hall will house a new display of 1,000 Teddy Bears collected over many years by Gyles Brandreth and his wife Michele. The bears will be on permanent display in a new purpose-built Bear House and includes Fozzie from The Muppet Show, Children in Need’s Pudsey Bear and Winnie the Pooh. Newby Hall invites you to take your own bear along for a selfie and of course, teddy bears’ picnics
will be taking place throughout the year! Newby Hall, near Ripon, was built by Sir Christopher Wren in the 1690s and is thought to be one of Britain’s finest examples of Adam-style architecture. It also has wonderful grounds, an adventure playground, miniature railway and a permanent collection of dolls’ houses. Check out the web site at newbyhall.com for further information.

Equipping staff with needed skills Home Instead CAREGivers Julie and Rete this week received their City & Guilds Accredited Certificates in Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias Training. The CAREGivers along with seven other members of staff have recently undergone in-house training over three sessions as part of Home Instead Senior Care York & Ryedale’s commitment to raising awareness for the benefit of CAREGivers and clients. General Manager Daphne Ellis (pictured) said, “We aim to equip our CAREGivers with the skills, tools and techniques to deliver outstanding care for our clients”.

From their website you can choose a walk which is suitable for your ability and fitness level that lasts from 30 to 90 mins. How do I take part? Simply turn up on the day – no need to book. The office staff are painting their nails!
My Red Thumb Is a campaign to encourage as many people as possible to stop using their phone whilst driving. Research has shown that drivers who use a mobile phone, whether hand held or hands
free, are four times as likely to crash or kill themselves or others. The 12th May 2016 was the third year of the campaign, and in support the office team painted their thumb nails a very fetching
shade of red. So the message from the campaign is really simple – do not use your mobile phone whilst driving. More information on the campaign can be found on myredthumb.com
Dementia Friends workshops During Dementia Awareness Week we held a number of workshops at the office which were open to our CAREGivers and the public. We will be holding more sessions, so watch out for more details, or alternatively, call the office for more information.
