any people say that they are thankful for having a new car or a new pair of shoes. But it’s very seldom when someone says that they are thankful for someone else. “Thankful,” it means, grateful, appreciative, pleased, or gratified. I am thankful for someone else – For Lily, she is the beautiful granddaughter of Mr. Sean Cononie. She has big blue eyes and a beautiful smile. It’s hard to think of yourself as being thankful for someone else but think of it as if someone else (Continued on page 3)

s the holiday season sneaks up on us, many people at the shelter are reminded of the families they came from and relationships that have been severed over the years. Thanksgiving may bring depressing feelings to some, but for a very special couple this Thanksgiving brings hope, a second chance, and in the future a new family. Recently I had the pleasure of talking to Victoria Eisler and

Sanford “Sandy” Mills about the upcoming holiday. Originally from New York Victoria found herself at the shelter after being abandoned by her boyfriend of eleven years. Sandy, who had grown up in Massachusetts took the hard road and also ended up at the shelter. We wave flags and sing songs but do we honor these heroes? body, to me this is the biggest tragedy because day after day they and their loved ones are reminded of their sacrifice. How much is the vet revered? Yes, revered, to honor and admire profoundly and respectfully. We wave flags and sing songs but do we honor these heroes? We have a lot of these heroes here at COSAC. They are young and old, black and white, some have had or still have some addiction problems stemming from their experiences in wartime. Gary told his story in the homeless voice about how he "had to" smoke crack to get rid of the demons in his head. He called them.... some are recovering and struggle to be normal. Society (some, not all) has labeled them "baby killers" and all these years later still remember (Continued on page 7)
