“Eat right and exercise daily.” It’s a motto we hear over and over again in regards to getting fit and staying healthy. The problem is that as humans, we seem to overcomplicate the process. There’s the calorie counting and the protein vs. carbs not to mention getting motivated to go to the gym before getting dinner made and laundry done. Well, there’s good news! Being fit and healthy doesn’t have to be that hard anymore. New on the scene in Omaha is Koko FitClub. The approach to health is inside out: an exclusive, scientific process that makes it simple and easy for anyone to get healthy. It centers on building and preserving lean muscle using Smartraining. Revival by Design

by Amber Weinacht

2013 Designers Showhouse May 3-May 19

out on the town

One of the things Omaha is most known for is a perseverance and dedication to honoring, maintaining and encouraging the preservation of its older buildings and historical landmarks. The Smyth House, located at 710 N. 38th Street, will have a second turn at life from May 3 through May 19 when the American Society of Interior Designers Nebraska/Iowa Chapter and the Joslyn Castle Trust presents the Designer Showhouse 2013. The Neo-Classical Revival style home was built in 1906 for Constantine and Kate Smyth and was previously featured as a Designer Showhouse in the 1980’s. The current owners Robyn Tait and John Campbell approached the Joslyn Castle Trust about having the home updated again and designers are thrilled to get another hands-on experience inside the historical home. “We are excited to revive this 1980 Designer Showhouse,” said Showhouse Design Chair and designer with Interiors Joan & Associates, Beth Settles. “Updated colors and modern conveniences are incorporated into the design, while still honoring the home’s historic past.” Proceeds will go to the Joslyn Castle Trust, which perpetuates the goals of Sarah Joslyn by serving as an advocate for the historic home of the Joslyn family, located in the same neighborhood at 3902 Davenport Street. The landmark Smyth House in Historic Bemis Park Joslyn Castle and estate grounds are used to educate and enhance the cultural aspects of the Omaha community. Purchase of a ticket for entrance to the Smyth House also includes a free tour of the Joslyn Castle. While viewing the Showhouse, attendees can enjoy other related events for free including wine tastings, a chance to meet the designers, and more. Showhouse ticket holders can also purchase tickets for dinner parties under the backyard tent, Sunday jazz brunches, a Mother’s Day Brunch, a Scotch tasting, and Garden Party Decorating with Voila! See the Editor’s Letter for a chance to win two free tickets.
