“ I did my maxillofacial surgery residency at The Medical College of Virginia and loved the area and wanted to make it my home. When I began facial surgery over 30 years ago, cosmetic facial surgery was limited. As it grew, I grew and it became my passion and life’s work. Since 2004 my practice has been limited to only cosmetic facial surgery.”

What are the 3 most important things a patient should consider when choosing a cosmetic facial surgery provider?
A:
“Number one is experience. Check out the entire team because no
surgeon can do it alone. It takes a highly specialized staff to provide excellence in cosmetic surgery. It is not just about looking good, but also it is about safety in surgery, anesthesia and a fully accredited surgery center. Number two is to evaluate the surgeon’s outcomes. Make sure the surgeon is board certified. Experienced surgeons should be able to show you hundreds of before and after pictures and provide detailed information about cosmetic procedures. 3. Stay away from fad doctors and fad procedures. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Although cosmetic surgery has advanced, the miracle facelifts you see on TV and the lasers that heal in two days, just don’t do much. The tried and true procedures that have proven safe and effective for decades have not been surpassed.”
