 Welcome to the Easter Term Homerton College enewsletter. We bring you the latest College news and details of Roll events we have planned for Summer 2012. Miss Read Dora Saint (Homerton 1931-1933), who wrote dozens of popular novels under the pen name of Miss Read depicting the joys and charms of life in two fictional English villages, Fairacre and Thrush Green, died on April 7 aged 98.

HCBC Alumni Rowing Day This annual event was held on 14 April 2012 with many alumni turning up to enjoy a nostalgic row on the Cam. With thanks to Luan Wise for the film footage. If you would like to be added to the HCBC Alumni mailing list please contact HCBC.

Kazakhstan recently celebrated 20 years as an independent state, and continues to grow its national economy based on enormous mineral resources. Education is the key to its future, and further developments of its schools and teachers is one of its government's most urgent priorities. Cambridge University is privileged to be closely involved in this and members of Homerton College are amongst the team working with Kazakhstani colleagues. Both parties learn a great deal as we share ideas and practices. The seminar will convey the richness of Kazakh culture and the excitement of its educational opportunities through words, images and a multi-media presentation. The seminar will be followed by the Easter Term Alumni Formal Hall. Read more and download a booking form.

From the College Archive A short film of Homerton College Nursery in in the 1950s. The nursery was set up when Homerton, under the direction of Miss Skillicorn, became a centre of training for nursery school work. Miss Skillicorn's business acumen anticipated national educational and social needs. The evacuation of a group of mothers and children under the imminent threat of war in 1938 gave a feeling of urgency to the trustees' decision to build a nursery in the paddock of Trumpington House. The nursery was opened in 1941. Ten evacuees from the bombed

2012 Olympic hopeful, Erica Bodman (2006-2009) will be hosting a table at the Cambridge Sporting Celebration Dinner at the Painted Hall, Greenwich, on 12 May. Erica, part of the GB Rowing Squad, is focusing on selection for the Olympics in Rio in 2016, and currently training for the European Championships in September. Read more about Erica on her blog.
