Fellows News – New Publications Dr Peter Cunningham’s Politics and the Primary Teacher is newly published by Routledge. This new book encourages and supports primary teachers in reflecting critically on the politics of the important work they do. Primary teachers deploy an impressive array of knowledge and skills in their work. It is a rewarding job but one that makes huge demands. Professor Jim Campbell’s review describes the book “A distinctive and much needed analysis of primary teaching as political activity, Dr Cunningham’s new book is scholarly and stunningly well written.” Professor Maurice Galton calls it “A must read for anyone concerned for our children's wellbeing." Further details are available online.

The Charter Choir (founded in 2009) will be going on its first international tour from 2-9 July 2012. Professor Morag Styles’ Children’s Picturebooks:The Art of Visual Storytelling, co written with Professor Martin Salisbury, was launched at Heffers in January. Martin runs the MA in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. They have been running joint seminars with their respective Masters’ students (in Morag's case, those studying children's literature) and collaborating in various ways for some time. It seemed the right moment to write a book together on visual literacy. Martin is very much the lead author, using his wide knowledge of international picture books and drawing on his students' outstanding artwork (many go on to get published professionally after taking the course).
