Merrie Monarch Festival
The Merrie Monarch Festival is a hula competition named for and held in honor of Hawaii’s last King, David Kalakaua, and is one of the Big Island’s most prestigious cultural events. For participating halau, this is just part of their lifelong mission to perpetuate hula. Of the many hula events and competitions held throughout the year, the Merrie Monarch Festival is considered to be the pinnacle.
