We faced unique challenges together in 2014, and those trials have bound us together as a stronger and more resilient island community. We were reminded this past year of the many things we take for granted in our day-to-day lives, and of the importance of stepping forward for our neighbors. This past year tested us, and reminded us of the value of aloha. Tropical Storm Iselle presented our Puna residents with hardships, but our community pulled together. Donations flowed in from across the island and across the state. Neighbors reconnected with one another, reaching out to care for our elderly and disabled persons. Residents banded together to cut fallen trees and remove debris to help neighbors who were trapped. Our residents emerged from the aftermath of Iselle with a renewed sense of pride in their neighborhoods.
