Newsletter - Oct 2010 Greetings! This is the first issue of our newsletter. It marks the beginning of our society’s fruitful events this year. Moreover, the newsletter published last year can be found on our website. We hope you will enjoy reading our newsletters.
An Introduction to HKJSMS The Hong Kong Joint School Mathematics Society (JSMS) is a non-profit-making organization aimed to promote students’ interest in mathematics and to cultivate friendship among schools. We held a variety of activities in the past, including the Inter-school Mathematics Contest, workshops, camps, talks and exhibitions. These events can provide opportunities for students to exchange their experience with others.
Major Events of 2009-2010 JSMS held several activities last year. Among them, two major events were the Pre-ISMC Game Day and the ISMC. Both of them were held in May 2010 at Tang King Po School. • Pre-ISMC Game Day 2010 In the game day, the participants played mathematical games together and had a chance to make friends with students from other schools before the Inter-school Mathematics Contest. • Inter-school Mathematics Contest 2010 (ISMC) JSMS invited the member schools to send teams to ISMC. 22 teams from 14 schools participated in the competition last year. There were two events: the individual event and the group event. The individual event consisted of 3 long questions and 12 short questions, while the group event consisted of 8 short questions. • Group Event Results Champion: Ying Wa College First Runner-up: La Salle College Second Runner-up: St. Paul’s Co-educational College
