SKIN MODEL 1:500 Made by Zhang Hongyu & Guan Rui

Skin & Structure in VARIATION The structure is made of steel frame, ensuring its stability, and the roof surface and louvre-board is made of bamboo rich in NING BO. The skin of the structure enables the terminal to blend more with its environment in the daylight, but stand out more in the night time, both made possible because of the flexible louvred system. The similar repeated units of modified portal frame creates a visual rhythm with aesthetic feeling, while the changeable louvre-board produces an ocular variation with optical feeling.

A BOUNDARY WITH THICKNESS

INTERIOR & OUTSIDE FOOD HALL DESIGN INDIVIDUAL WORK

San Francisco, CA, USA 2017.08.23---2017.12.04(16 Weeks Project) TUTOR Roddy Creedon

UC Berkeley

The goal of this project is to create a boundary with thickness which can not only divide the interior and outside, but also act as a protector from noise and collector and processor for air and solar energy. The way I put this goal into action is by creating a double-skin system in the west facade of the building. Firstly, the double skin can block the noise outside the building, for which I found that it’s pretty noisy on the west side of the site during daytime. Secondly, the air cavity between the two skins can absorb the solar radiation from outside. This kind of “thickness” make the boundary a transformation medium between outside and inside.

The outlet vents and intake vents located on the top and bottom of the out layer can open or close for different modes in summer daytime, summer night and winter daytime.

INVISIBLE MEMORY

In the past, people memorized LEI FENG --a civilian hero in China with a huge statue in an open square. The size of the memorial statue renders it an overly heroic portrait in the eyes of the public. The government asks designers to preserve the old 8-meter statue of LEIFENG in the centre of the square and create a new memorial hall for LEIFENG.

FRAGMENTS & TOTALITY MEMORIAL PAVILION INDIVIDUAL WORK Changsha,P.R.China 2012.10.5---2012.11.5 (4 Weeks Project)

Nowadays, I attempt to find a new way to memorize LEI FENG in a more civilian-sized form.

TUTOR Xia, Bing Southeast University

To memorize a hero, what we should preserve in our mind is not the specific image memory, but the emotional memory. It is the invisible memory but not the visible statue that we need to cherish the most. So it is better to awake LEI FENG’s warm-hearted and kind spirit in people’s mind than to build a grand figure that leaves people with a formidable impression.
