How To Banish Pet Odors From Your Home Dogs, cats, birds, and lizards have evolved from wild animals and outdoor companions to become beloved, largely domesticated members of the family. The number of pets in homes across the country continues to grow. According to Statista, as of March 2018, 94.2 million cats and 89.7 million dogs were estimated to live in the United States as pets. Over time, pet owners grow accustomed to their pets' antics, messes and even their odors. Even though it will take effort, homeowners can freshen their homes and eliminate unpleasant pet-related smells:

· Find ways to ventilate. Odors can build up inside closed environments and prove overpowering. Opening windows when applicable, using exhaust fans and encouraging cross-breezes can air certain odors from the home. · Clean frequently. Cats and dogs can leave behind fur, dander, food messes, and more. Eliminating the debris that pets create can reduce odors. Don't forget to vacuum draperies and furniture. · Purchase an air purifier. Air purifiers can help remove odors and allergens from the air. They're relatively inexpensive and can be placed in rooms that pets frequent. · Wash pet blankets and beds. Launder pet beds, cloth toys, blankets, and any other items that pets lounge on. Sweat, saliva and dander can cause these fabrics to become stinky, and, in turn, make the house smell worse. · Keep pets clean. Most pets are very good at self-grooming, but can benefit from a spa treatment once in awhile. Dogs that spend ample time outdoors or frequently get wet and dirty may need routine baths. Neutralizing pet odors takes effort, but it can make for a more pleasantsmelling home environment.

Keep summer road trips safe · When taking to the open road, it is important to focus on safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that planning and prevention can spare road-trippers from the consequences of breakdowns, traffic accidents or other road emergencies.

· Stock emergency preparedness items. Prior to a trip, drivers should make sure their vehicles are equipped with necessary safety items. · Schedule a service call. Regular maintenance can keep vehicles from breaking down. Drivers should take their cars in for tuneups before long road trips. · Plan your route. Map out the route before heading out. Be aware of potential road closures, obstacles or construction. Thanks to real-time GPS updates through mobile phones and other devices, some drivers like to rely on tech to get them through. · Join a roadside repair service. Breakdowns happen even if trips are carefully planned. Automotive clubs can help drivers when breakdowns occur. · Avoid distractions. Keep children and other passengers occupied so they are not a distraction to the driver. Set out with favorite music, books, video games, or even a pad and paper for doodling. · Plan fun breaks along the way. Breaks give drivers a reason to rest and passengers an opportunity to get out and stretch their legs. · Stay over if necessary. According to the NHTSA, driving while drowsy is a contributing factor in 100,000 accidents every year. Road trips are all about fun, but drivers must emphasize safety before and during such excursions.

HUNGRY

Are meal delivery services right for your family? Working parents are busy with commitments to work, family and their children's school and extracurricular activities. As a result of such commitments, families may find they have little time to devote to cooking, let alone shopping for food. As an alternative to dining out, which can be expensive, many families are exploring home-delivery meal kits. For those who value convenience and fresh foods, meal delivery services could be the way to go. Here is a look at the advantages and disadvantages to them.

Pros * Meal delivery kits' biggest selling points are convenience and ease of preparation. Such kits may it possible for even novice home cooks to prepare restaurant-quality meals in their own kitchens. * Meal kits can provide a great way to try new foods, enticing eaters to try different recipes. They're also a good idea for families or singletons who may be bored preparing their typical staples. * Another advantage to meal kits is the portions of the meals are already determined, helping people better control how much they eat. Cons * Cost is usually the biggest detriment to meal kits. Even though meal kits may cost less per person than dining out, they're still on the expensive side. Meals may cost anywhere from $50 to $200 per week, with the average at about $7-10 per meal, per person. * Another potential problem with meal kits is that consumers may be at the mercy of the company in terms of the variety of foods available to them. Picky eaters may find the kits include items they will not eat, which can make kits a waste of money and food. Families who want to give meal kits a try are urged to read reviews on services and check out available menus to ensure the investment is worth it. If convenience is key, meal kits may be the ideal fit.

Exploring the options in mommy makeovers Women frequently notice changes in their bodies after pregnancy. Although many things can be modified through diet and exercise, some new moms may benefit from a little extra help. In fact, an entire niche in health and wellness, The Mommy Makeover, helps women adjust to life post-pregnancy.

Here are some things women should know about mommy makeovers: · Procedures are unique for each woman and are customized based on individual goals. · The desired amount of restoration, placement of incisions and techniques used will dictate appearance and recovery time. · Mommy makeovers may occur in a single operation or at different appointments. · The cost of a mommy makeover varies depending on the procedures and where women live. Many plastic surgeons have financing options that can help make the costs of the procedures more manageable. · Because mommy makeovers are surgeries, other precautions and procedures are necessary. These include surgery pre-clearance, an examination of one's health history, cessation of certain medications or smoking prior to the surgery, and other recommendations from the surgeon. · Recovery periods vary, but doctors will help patients through this time. According to Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics, recovery may be six weeks or more depending on the procedures chosen. However, every measure to reduce recovery time and limit discomfort is made. Mommy makeovers can be an option for women who want help reshaping their postnatal bodies.

HEALTHY Kayaking

Kayaking is a water sport that can be beneficial to the mind and body. Just about anyone willing to spend a day on the water can benefit from learning about kayaking and how to get started with this rewarding activity. The history of kayaking is interesting. The word "kayak" means "hunter's boat," and the Inuit used to rely on these small vessels to catch food by sneaking up on their prey from the water's edge. Some people still hunt and fish from their kayaks, but many are happy to use them for sightseeing and exercising.

Exercise, fresh air are just some of the many draws of kayaking.

Power of attorney protects loved ones Life is full of the unexpected. But just because the future is unpredictable does not mean adults cannot prepare for what lies ahead. Estate planning is important, and establishing power of attorney can be essential for men and women looking to protect their financial resources and other assets. What is power of attorney? A power of attorney, or POA, is a document that enables an individual to appoint a person or organization to manage his or her affairs should this individual become unable to do so. Why is power of attorney needed? Many people believe their families will be able to step in if an event occurs that leaves them incapacitated and unable to make decisions for themselves. Unfortunately, this is not always true. If a person is not named as an agent or granted legal access to financial, medical and other pertinent information, family members' hands may be tied.

What is covered? An agent appointed through POA may be able to handle the following, or more, depending on the verbiage of the document: · banking transactions · buying/selling property · settling claims · filing tax returns · managing government-supplied benefits · maintaining business interests · making estate-planning decisions · deciding on medical treatments · selling personal property · fulfilling advanced health care directives Although a power of attorney document can be filled out and an agent appointed on one's own, working with an estate planning attorney to better understand the intricacies of this vital document is advised.

Handling major life changes Change can be both exciting and frightening. Men and women facing major life changes like divorce, moving, switching careers or retiring can take the following tips to heart to make such transitions go as smoothly as possible.

路 Embrace the positive. Change has its advantages and disadvantages, but once men and women have decided to make changes, they should shift their focus toward the positive aspects of changing instead of worrying about the potential negatives. For example, if moving, focus on the adventure of living somewhere new and the opportunities to explore new places and make new friends. 路 Accept your decision. Many people spend ample time mulling the pros and cons of major decisions before ultimately deciding to make major changes. People who decide to change careers may have spent years trying to decide if such a change was the right move. Once they have come to a decision and started the process of changing, whether it's giving a boss two weeks' notice or putting a house on the market, men and women should accept their decision and rest easier knowing they exercised their due diligence before making a final decision. 路 Commit to your decision. Fully committing to change can increase your chances of making a successful transition. If moving to a new place, look for opportunities to connect with neighbors and other members of your new community. Parents can be active in parent organizations at their children's schools, while professionals can make a concerted effort to connect with coworkers in an effort to build strong relationships that can help their transition go smoothly. 路 Maintain existing relationships. Professionals who are moving on to new companies and adults moving to new communities don't have to give up their relationships with current coworkers, neighbors and friends. Maintain contact with valued friends, neighbors and coworkers through channels such as social media, email or even the telephone. These people have likely been valuable resources and friends for years, and there's no reason you cannot continue to look to them for support and provide a source of support for them should they make a major change in the years ahead. Change is rarely easy, but you can take several steps to make transitions go smoothly.
