How to Repot a Plant Gardening time is here, with people enjoying plants both inside and outside of their homes. Container gardening, which is a planting method in which flowers and other plants are grown in pots and other containers, is quite popular because of design versatility. Containers can be moved from location to location if plants are not thriving in a particular spot.
Repotting may seem like it is easy, but it actually takes a little finesse so not to damage the plants. · Be sure the plant is well watered for a few days prior to the repotting process. Watering also will help loosen the root ball from inside of the smaller pot. · Consider repotting outside because the process can be messy. Have all of your materials, which include a trowel, gloves, scissors, and potting soil, handy so that you can tackle the process smoothly. · Remove your plant from the pot carefully. Place the plant on its side, then support the main stem in one hand and use the other hand to gently pull the pot away. Be careful not to pull on the main stem or break the stem. Tread gently. · Cut away any rotten or dead roots, and trim really long ends. Make three or four vertical cuts about a third of the way up the remaining root ball. This also will help with water and nutrient absorption once the plant is in its new pot. · Gently untangle any remaining roots and prepare to place the plant in a new pot. · Choose a new pot that is slightly larger than the root ball. Fill the pot with soil so that the root ball sits about an inch below the rim of the pot. Add more soil around the roots to fill the pot. Be sure to leave enough room so that with each watering the pot can hold water. · Thoroughly water the plant after repotting to moisten the soil. Pickup Trucks Remain Popular Among Car Buyers · A recent study from the Automotive News Data Center found the big three pickup
manufacturers, which include Ford, GM and Dodge, sell an average of 6,500 trucks every day in North America. The automotive news resource The Drive points out the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck for 40 consecutive years. While the popularity of pickup trucks may be evident to today's motorists, just who is behind the wheels of those trucks may come as a surprise. According to a recent study from MaritzCX, covering the 2016 model year, more people from affluent families are opting for pickup trucks than economy cars. The Ford F-150 was the most popular vehicle among households earning more than $200,000 a year. Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda Pilot and Jeep Wrangler were also tops among high-income Americans.
Motorists who have never before driven pickup trucks but are mulling whether or not to join the truckloving masses can consider a host of factors as they begin looking for trucks. · Size: Pickups are larger than many other vehicles and tend to be heavier. As a result, when driving a pickup, leave more space for braking and do not tailgate. · Blind spots: Because pickup trucks are longer than cars, they may have larger blind spots. Drivers should adjust the mirrors to diminish as much of their blind spots as possible. Also, give ample notice when changing lanes or making turns. · Reverse: Upon purchasing a pickup, first-time truck owners may benefit from practicing driving in reverse so they can grow accustomed to doing so in a truck. · Hauling gear: Be sure to properly restrain items that are hauled in the pickup truck bed, or invest in a bed cover so nothing is lost and safety is not compromised. · Inclement weather driving: Pickup trucks have very little weight in the back when their beds are empty. This can cause trucks to fishtail on wet or snowy roads. Alleviate this by placing some sandbags in truck beds before driving in poor weather.
· Pickup trucks are among the most popular vehicles on the road, but drivers may need to alter their driving habits when operating them.

HUNGRY
Heart-healthy lifestyles begin in the kitchen Weight-loss initiatives and dieting often go hand-in-hand, but healthy diets can do more than help women shed pounds. Heart disease is the primary killer of females, but embracing heart-healthy diets can help women reduce their risk of develop cardiovascular disease.
Fortunately, healthy choices, including the right diet, can help reduce women's risk for heart disease risk. Here are a few easy ways to modify eating habits to be more heart-healthy. · Avoid consuming too many calories. Eat larger portions of nutrient-rich foods and go sparingly on highcalorie, high-sodium and/or refined foods. Being overweight can contribute to heart problems. · Increase produce consumption. A variety of low-calorie fruits and vegetables can provide ample nutrition and plenty of healthy antioxidants. Make fruits and vegetables your largest portions when eating. · Reduce sodium intake. Hypertension is a major risk factor for heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular problems. · Add more whole grains to your diet. Fiber from whole grains may improve blood cholesterol levels, thereby lowering your risk for heart disease. Dietary fiber also can lower risk of stroke, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. · Choose healthy fats. Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, olive oil and flax seed reduce a person's risk of developing arrhythmia and atherosclerosis. Eating fatty fish at least twice a week as a way to boost omega-3 fatty acid levels. · Load up on berries. When choosing fruits, go heavy on berries. Health magazine reports that according to a 2013 study by the Harvard School of Public Health , women between the ages of 25 and 42 who ate more than three servings of blueberries and strawberries a week had a 32 percent lower risk of heart attack. · Indulge in smart ways. When eating sweets, choose dark chocolate. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids called polyphenols, which may help lower blood pressure and reduce clotting and inflammation. In addition to a cardiac-friendly diet, women concerned about heart health should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week. Also, pay attention to food labels to make smarter choices.

Reasons to embrace cycling now As warm temperatures return, many people renew their interest in spending time outdoors. Spring and summer are peak times of year to enjoy the great outdoors. A popular activity in spring, summer and fall, cycling benefits the mind and body in various ways.
Mind:
One of the more common mental health benefits of exercise is that working up a sweat can help alleviate physical and mental stress. Reducing stress is important for overall health and can reduce a person's risk of developing certain illnesses. Cycling is a great way to get outdoors, meet people and see the scenery. Getting outside to exercise also can reduce anxiety and depression. A study conducted in 2007 by researcher Charles Hillman indicated that exercise boosts brain power and may be able to stave off Alzheimer's disease in the elderly. Dr. Phil Tomporowski has studied how children with ADHD may be positively affected by bike riding, and how control issues were improved without the use of medication.
Body:
The Victoria State Department Better Health Channel says that cycling for health and fitness is a good idea. Riding a bicycle is a low-impact form of exercise for people of all ages. Cycling can be fun and doesn't require expensive equipment. Cycling generally causes less strain on joints and other areas of the body because it is low-impact. However, cycling provides enough resistance to be an effective muscle workout. People who want to improve their cardiovascular health and manage their weight can turn to cycling to achieve their goals. Cycling raises one's metabolic rate to help the body burn fat when combined with a healthy diet. Cycling Weekly says cycling burns between 400 and 1,000 calories an hour, depending on the intensity of a ride and the rider's weight. Individuals can modify the distance and intensity of a cycling workout to suit their fitness goals. Disease risk and adverse health outcomes can be reduced by hopping on a bike. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Glasgow examined more than 260,000 individuals over the course of five years. The study found that cycling to work can cut a rider's risk of developing heart disease or cancer in half. Those eager to get started on cycling are encouraged to begin slowly, especially if it has been awhile since they last exercised. It's also important to find the right-sized bicycle to reduce strain and injury. A full-service bike shop can help bike shoppers find one that is the right height and frame size for the rider's body. The height of the handlebars and the seat also can be adjusted for comfort. Did You Know?
According to the American Heart Association, half of the men who die suddenly of coronary heart disease do not exhibit symptoms. The AHA also says that between 70 and 89 percent of sudden cardiac events occur in men. For example, men in their 20s can make sure they exercise regularly, avoid smoking and secondhand smoke, and schedule routine wellness visits with their physicians. Men in their 50s may need to be more diligent in their efforts to prevent heart disease, especially if they have already been diagnosed with conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes. While young men and older men may need to employ different strategies in their fights against heart disease, men of all ages can benefit from routine exercise, nutritious diets and healthy lifestyles. More information about combatting heart disease can be found at www.heart.org.

Factors that impact auto insurance premiums Auto insurance rates vary from person to person, even though it may seem like the offerings are the same. But no two drivers are the same, and certain factors may be affecting drivers' auto insurance premiums without the motorists even realizing it. Recognizing which situations can increase or lower costs can help drivers get the best rates and coverage needed. Although it can be tempting to reduce the price of insurance by choosing lower amounts of coverage, there are other ways to make insurance more affordable. · Move. Insurers typically look at where a person lives when calculating rates. Those people who live in highly populated, urban areas likely will have higher premiums than others who live in more rural towns. That's because greater population density often translates into more people on the road - and a greater chance for insurance claims due to fender benders or theft. By moving, a person may be able to cut rates. · Gender and age are factors. One can't step into a time machine, but it's helpful to know that growing a little older can lower insurance premiums. However, as a person moves into his or her senior years, the roles reverse. Older women may see higher rates than men the same age. · Keep make and model in mind. The type of vehicle driven can affect insurance premiums. Vehicles that are desirable to car thieves also may cost more to insure. Researching vehicles prior to purchase and checking the rates for those cars or trucks with insurance companies can help keep costs low. · Commuters may pay more. Individuals who use a car for business or frequent commuting may pay more than people who drive less because statistically there is a greater risk for an accident, says State Farm. Reducing commute times can lower premiums. · Tie the knot. A study by the National Institutes of Health found that single drivers were twice as likely to be in an auto accident as married drivers. Combining policies also can help married people save. · Follow the rules of the road. Drivers who have moving violations, drink and drive or engage in otherwise risky behavior behind the wheel may see their rates soar.
Insurance companies weigh factors such as driving record, age, locality, when assessing premium costs. Drivers have some room to get lower rates by knowing the factors that determine their premiums.

According to a study from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, housing is the greatest expense in dollar amount and as a share of total expenditures for households in which a person 55 and older is considered the primary owner or renter of the home. Total annual household expenditures, which were culled from the BLS' 2014 Consumer Expenditure Survey, totaled just over $49,000. These expenditures included food, housing, clothing, transportation, health care, and entertainment, among other expenses. The BLS study found that housing accounted for nearly one-third of annual household expenditures in households headed by people age 55 and older. In households headed by people between the ages of 65 and 74, housing expenses accounted for a slightly smaller percentage of overall annual expenditures, while housing accounted for 36.5 percent of overall expenditures in households headed by men and women age 75 and older. Such figures illustrate the need for men and women to account for housing expenses in their retirement planning.
