.Make cake batter as per recipe on cake box. .To make the heart shape, place a small marble or a 1/2-inch ball of aluminum foil between each liner and one side of the tin (a great job for kids). This will push the paper into the batter to form the notch in the heart. .Pour into the prepared pans and bake according to the times listed on the box, but check for doneness a few minutes early or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Let the cupcakes cool, then remove the marbles or foil balls. .Frost and enjoy!!!

February is National Children's Dental Health Month National Children’s Dental Health Month is meant to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Why is this type of celebration—and year-round attention to children’s dental health important?

Despite the fact that it’s almost entirely preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children. More than 40 percent of children ages 2 to 11 have had a cavity in their primary (baby) teeth, and more than two-thirds of 16- to 19-year-olds have had a cavity in their permanent teeth.

Although overall rates of tooth decay have decreased over the past four decades, decay has actually increased in preschool age children in recent years.

The good news is there are safe and effective preventive measures that can protect teeth. Good oral hygiene practices such as thorough brushing with a fluoride toothpaste can help keep children from getting cavities. In addition, dental sealants and community water fluoridation are two other strategies that can help prevent tooth decay.

Milo James Satterfield is Dixie Regional Medical Center’s Baby New Year 2014. “He’s a big, healthy boy,” said his father, T.J. “We’re very grateful he and his mother, Crystal, are doing so well.” T.J. and Crystal Satterfield reside in Veyo with Milo’s new big brother, Maximus.

Milo was born at 12:52 a.m. on New Year’s Day. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 6 oz. and is 21 inches tall.

The toothbrush, that is. Since baby teeth eventually fall out to be replaced by new teeth, many parents wait until then to begin training in oral hygiene. It’s a general assumption that oral hygiene is not an issue for younger children.

Not true. The American Dental Association (ADA) says that cavities in baby teeth can cause a number of problems in addition to early tooth loss. The effects might

include ear and speech problems, crooked permanent teeth, severe pain, poor self-image, and tooth decay.

The ADA even recommends starting children’s dental care when they are still babies! They say a dentist’s visit should occur in the first year and brushing should begin at age two and be supervised until a child is six or seven.

The 15th Annual Dixie Power Kite Festival is Coming!

The Dixie Power Kite Festival will be held on April 12, 2014 from 10am - 7pm at SunRiver Golf Course. Admission is free.

Activities for the Kite Festival include Open Kite Flying, Continuous Entertainment and Music, Concessions, and Vendors.

The Kite Festival was started to provide a wholesome, uplifting, family-oriented event and to promote reading as a fundamental basis of education for every child of elementary school age. A child who reads has a tremendous advantage over a child who doesn't read.

Children who read have a better understanding of grammar and spelling, as well as sentence structure.

It is the responsibility of parents to first read to their children. Secondly, they should encourage their children to spend a certain amount of time reading daily. Parents should also read alongside children to model good reading habits.

Admission to the Kite Festival is free. Concessions and additional activities are available at nominal charges. Plan ahead and bring cash.
