Health At Work Plant Ahead
Would you pay $100 to have health insurance that worked while you did? Norwegian horticulturists have proved that plants in the office reduce noise levels while lowering symptoms of cough, fatigue, hoarse throats and itchy skin. Office plants are not only energetic, they are an art form. A jade plant on the left as you enter signifies prosperity. Plants with many, smaller
leaves are most effective at diffusing sound. Office favorites are peace lilies, philodendrons and ficus. Disperse them throughout the office rather than clump them, and remember, you can buy and maintain plants yourself or lease them for upkeep and seasonal rotation. Once you add plants to your office, you are likely to hear your customers say, “It smells so fresh in here!”

In Hot Water
Hydronic heating can be a cost-effective, “green” alternative to gas or oil. Hot water is circulated from a centrally located boiler through baseboards, radiators, or tubing embedded in
floors, walls, ceilings, sidewalks, and driveways. Heating units are stylized to match a variety of decors, from contemporary baseboards to Victorian radiators.

What a Hoot! The Father of our Manners
Before George Washington turned 16, he wrote 110 Rules of Civility. Daunting for a boy who was a planter and surveyor, but perhaps the distinctive feature of excellence that made him firm but gracious with those who wanted his country to be theirs. Among George’s gems of decorum were: • In the presence of others, sing not to yourself with a humming
noise, nor drum with your fingers or feet. • Put not off your clothes in the presence of others. • Shift not yourself nor gnaw your nails in the presence of others. • Eat not in the streets, nor in the house out of season. • Take no salt nor cut bread with your knife greasy.

The balancing act
Sometimes we don’t even know we’re under stress. If you are having trouble sleeping, are irritable, or are feeling anxious and you’ve ruled out illness – you may just need to slow down and gain your balance. Here are some tips to consider: • Curtail your activities by a certain time of night. When you work right up until bedtime you set the stage for a restless night’s dream and sleep. • Be sure to get enough sleep. Sleep needs vary. Take note of how
many hours of sleep truly makes you feel refreshed, alert and happy. Then stick to it. • Walk. Take a break from the grind and stroll somewhere inspiring – a park, shoreline, country road. • Stretch. Take short breaks often to ease out tension, especially if you sit at the computer. Do a few yoga stretches every hour or so. • Try a new hobby or class. Get involved, get engaged! • Share time everyday with someone who makes you smile and feel good about yourself.

Get fit, not broke
According to a Better Business Bureau report, complaints in fitness clubs have risen 90 percent in the past five years. Most complaints are related to contract disputes and billing issues. To avoid these pitfalls, read your contract carefully. Find out what’s included in the monthly fee and what services cost extra. What’s the total cost and
payment schedule, including enrollment fees and finance charges? Is there an automatic renewal? This practice catches many people unaware. Is a month-to-month membership an option? What are your cancellation rights if you move, are injured, or the club closes? A fitness club membership can be a wise investment in your future—but read the fine print.
Styling
“I wear my sunglasses…”
Sunglasses make a fashion statement (think Jackie O) and protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and prevent wrinkles. With so many sunglass styles available, how do you choose the shape that’s right for your face? If your face is oblong, according to the experts at Real Simple magazine, pick large, glamorous frames that are round or square. Round faces should don rectangular frames. Heart-shaped faces
look even cuter in Aviator glasses with colored lenses. If your face is square, soften the lines with oval shades. Whatever style you choose, make sure the sunglasses provide protection from ultraviolet radiation. In accordance with the American National Standards Institute, lenses should block 99 percent of UVB and 95 percent of UVA rays.

Jolee’s Food Rev ie I have said it before and I’ll say it again… Dickey’s BBQ is GREAT for kids because it’s messy and it’s yummy!!! I ordered the Kids Meat Plate with a side of beans… I thought about ordering the mac and cheese for a side, but I wanted to try something new. My mom ordered a side of mac and cheese, so I tried a bite of that and it was delicious! The kid’s meat plate came with 2 ribs covered in the most delicious BBQ sauce ever, a dinner roll, a side and a drink. The ribs were so tender and east to chew. I just recently lost my front teeth, so food being easy to chew is a pretty big deal to me right now. The dinner roll was really good, and the beans I ordered were PERFECT! For those of you that like extra BBQ sauce, you can pick from sweet, regular, and hot-n-spicy. I like the regular sauce the best. There were 2 other kids plates you could get, Chicken Nuggets and the other was a Kid’s BBQ Sandwich. And just to make things even more fun at Dickey’s, they serve FREE soft serve ice cream! And on Sunday, kids meals are free with an adult entree.
-Jolee
I hope you enjoyed reading this review as much as I enjoyed eating there. See you next month!

Studies show that pet owners tend to have lower blood pressures, which translates into huge health benefits considering that uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure or kidney failure. A 2005 study showed that hospitalized heart patients
who had a therapy dog who snuggled with them had lowered blood pressure compared to other patients. Those with human visitors actually had an increase in blood pressure! Harnessing willpower Will power and self-discipline are sisters living in the same house. One controls harmful impulses, the other bestows stamina. The biggest hurdle in changing our lives for the better is assuming it will be hard. Not! It’s just like throwing a ball. You start as a rookie, but the more you do it, the better you get. Do it for your kids
Children model your behavior; if they see you eating healthy, they will, too! Plan your meals and snacks carefully to keep your whole family slim. Eat foods that fulfill the body’s fruit, vegetable, protein, grain, and dairy requirements daily. Cut deep-fried foods out of your diet, along with preserved meats like hot dogs and bologna. Eliminate sodas, juice drinks, or
pre-sweetened drinks. Make water your go-to beverage. Also choose skim milk, fresh fruit juice and fresh vegetable juices for variety and the nutrients they provide. Don’t skip meals. This slows the body’s metabolism and also makes it more likely that you’ll overeat come dinner. Keep healthy snacks like nuts and fruit on-hand for the whole family!

Working Right On the Ball
Strengthen your stomach muscles and improve your posture by replacing your office chair with an exercise ball for 15 minutes, three times a day. When you make the swap, do a set of crunches on the ball to help burn off that doughnut you ate during the meeting. This practice also helps your practice balance and keeps two feet flat on the floor.
Paper or Plastic?
While credit cards are more appropriately used as debt cards, we don’t always have the cash flow when we need it. But the piper must be paid. If your budget allows you to appropriate a certain amount to credit debt monthly, apply the bulk to the highest interest card until it’s paid off. Paying minimum on lower interest cards until their turn comes can save your company thousands of dollars.

Road and destination become one… An auto maker once used the advertising slogan, “Getting there is half the fun.” You’ve probably heard sayings encouraging people to “stop and smell the roses,” “take it one day at a time,” or “live each day to its fullest.” All these ideas point to the possibility that there’s more to achieving a goal than the mad dash to get there. Perhaps the way we get there and who we become
on the way is a goal in itself. “Once you realize that the road is the goal and that you are always on the road, not to reach a goal, but to enjoy its beauty and its wisdom, life ceases to be a task and becomes natural and simple, in itself an ecstasy.” – Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
