Many new books are published by both debut and established authors every year. Fiction is entertaining and can prompt great conversations or thoughtful introspection. Here is a short list of this year’s publications that are worth adding to your to-be-read list:

by Tess Gunty Community is a chosen family of sorts and the main character, Blandine Watkins, has chosen a family of neighbors that rally around her after she is assaulted on day one of living in the apartment complex nicknamed the rabbit hutch. Tess, a debut author and National Book Award Winner, brings the audience in with both delicate and bold writing about life and the community within it. Our Missing Hearts

by Celeste Ng If you are a fan of Little Fires Everywhere, this book will not disappoint you. Celeste does a fantastic job developing characters and weaving reality with possibility. She dives into topics like paranoia, racism and government. The main character, Bird, is separated from his Chinese-American mother and reassigned to another family, and as this dystopian story unfolds, he seeks the truth about his mother and their family.
