Notion Plan Target Market: Originally targeted at ages 18-25 although applies to the interests of any festival goer.
What will the magazine achieve? Business! Generating lots of interest and sales the insert magazine will be a huge hit with customers new and present, after the reader puts the mag down thats not the end of it, with tutorials and competeitions the interest will continue and continue. The readers will also be familier with the company more and hopefully this will make them more inclined to buy Notion magazine monthly. Most importantly ‘when you open our magazine, we want it to blow your face off.’
Where will it be sold? - It will be apart of Notion magazine, as an insert to the magazine. - An anually printed seasonal magazine
Style? I love love love the constant change in layout and overall style that the mag Asos produces each issue they bring out, dipping in and out of collage, colour, proportions and typography. I also want to incorporate a zine style. For me, a zine is different, it strives to defy the rules of graphics and so creates new rules. From everything from the type used to the paper its printed on zines are different. Different from your average high shine glossy celebrity based magazine.
Paper My magazine will not be a shiny, high glossy mag, I’m thinking more down the recycled route perhaps. Not only will recycled paper give me more of a rough textural feel, it also compliments the roughness of the content of the magazine, festivals!! If you were to liken a festival to a magazine you wouldn’t put it under the high shine glossy section! My final choice of paper is recycled ‘eco natural’ paper from eco-craft. The 100gsm paper is rough in texture and fairly light in weight, I will use the eco natural colour for the majority of my magazine but one sheet (four pages) will be in a darker ‘Hairy Manilla’ colour which is more of a light brown as appose to the other creamy beige colour. What’s in it? So it’s a magazine publication - within the festival theme. I will create a lifestyle-esque magazine going into all the details of festivals, what to wear, where to go, who to listen to, etc, etc. The layout of the publication will be fairly different and a little odd perhaps! Being a denim project I have thought deeply about how to include denim in the most minimalistic way - Denim and I have a very love hate relationship, i.e. I hate it all year round until the sun hits my cheeks and then we’re the best of buds! My idea of the perfect way to wear denim is paired with a pair of Hunter’s splattered in mud at the festival of the moment. So I’ll create a one off insert magazine to accompany the latest issue of Notion Magazine. A short mag, on all things festival, articles on a few of the top festivals and where to head this summer. It will be packed full of sweet outfits and festival kit lists; anything you need to know to have an amazing, musical summer!
Who are we?
We at Notion would like to claim that quote as our modus operandi: when you open our magazine, we want it to blow your face off. In fact, that’s also the quality we look for in what we cover. Today in an age where there is so much cultural detritus that is in every way unremarkable, we look for the exceptional. That’s not particularly amusing but it’s true. Here are the basics: we are an internationally distributed, independent bi-monthly magazine featuring music, fashion and culture. We are an alternative voice made up of the clamouring of the creative underclasses: we are unsentimental and uncompromising, cool and clinical. Sometimes we are insurgents and firebrands; sometimes we are so amused that we fall over. We are entertaining and we want to be entertained. We disdain and we rejoice. Our first and only love is creativity. We came from music because music is everywhere around us and inside us. We came wearing clothes, because it was cold and we want-
ed you to know how good we could look. We came talking about something, because you wanted to know about it. And then we got drunk with you and it was kinda fun. There are no more definitive voices in the world: where once upon a time a couple of music magazines would vie for your ears and a couple of style magazines would vie for your pretensions, now there is a colossal babble, a hellish clamouring of voices each with something to say. A lot of it is good, and a lot of it is rubbish. We spend all our time reading and listening and watching because that is what we love. We are epic consumers of all kinds of shit. And often it is shit. But sometimes music makes us feel like we’re floating above dancefloors; and sometimes clothes help turn us into the people we want to be; and sometimes we see something that makes sense. We’ve got great taste. So we tell you about it. That’s what you can rely on us for.
