About Camp Royal Hopkins Camp Royal Summer 2019

At Hopkins Community Education, we are pleased to bring to you our exciting Camp Royal summer youth program. Designed to work around your schedule, our summer programming offers: • Flexibility: Our Monday-Thursday camps are designed around half-day blocks, with drop-off times starting at 8:00 am, and pick-up by 5:00 pm. Lunch is provided at no additional cost. See detailed lunch information below. • Variety: Our classes cover a variety of interests — from art, pottery, sports, and technology, to LEGOs®, cooking, engineering, and drama. We’re sure to have something for every child. • Affordability: We’ve priced our camps at an affordable pricepoint for families. Payment plans are available at registration. • And most important — our camps are fun! Make it the best summer ever at Camp Royal!

Camp Royal staff

Our Camp Royal staff is comprised of District staff, teachers, college students, and local community professionals, with a broad range of knowledge and experience working with youth.

Camp Royal 2019 location

Camp Royal camps will be primarily located at Eisenhower Elementary School, 1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins (next to the Eisenhower Community Center). Please check individual camp descriptions for camps that are held in other locations.

Drop-off and pick-up

Youth need to be signed in and out of Camp Royal every day by a parent/guardian between 8:00-9:00 am and 4:00-5:00 pm at Eisenhower Elementary. Students attending morning-only camps must be picked up at 12 pm. Drop-off for students attending afternoon-only camps begins at 12:45 pm. Students attending a half day of camp who would like to attend lunch must be escorted and supervised by a parent or guardian.

Bus information

Starting on Week Two of the 2019 program (June 17), Camp Royal participants will have the availability of an early morning and late afternoon bus with pre-determined stops. Register for a bus when registering for camps. See page 40 for detailed busing information.

Lunch

Lunch runs from 12:00-1:00 pm for Camp Royal participants and is provided at no additional cost. Your student may bring a bag lunch if they wish, and eat during the scheduled Camp Royal lunch time. Lunch supervision by Camp Royal staff is provided for students attending a full day of camps. Students attending a half day of camp who would like to attend lunch must be escorted and supervised by a parent or guardian.

Before- and after-camp supervision

Our Camp Royal staff will supervise drop-off, lunch, and pick-up time periods outside of the regular camp programming time. During this time, youth have the option to participate in gym games and other activities.

Staff-to-kids ratio

Camp Royal follows state guidelines for out-of-school time ratios, which are 15 to 1. Some class offerings will be below this ratio.

Electronic devices

Camp Royal youth will be very busy during programming time. Please leave electronic devices at home. Cell phones are welcome, but need to remain in backpacks while participating in programming. Hopkins Community Education is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken devices.

Payment plans

We realize many families will be signing up for multiple weeks and would like a payment plan option. Payment plans are available at registration.

Cancellation and refund policy

We will gladly refund your class registration fee if you cancel and request a refund 5 business days prior to the first class. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. In that case, we will call and make arrangements to refund your class fee.

Summer Field Biology

at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center

Join us at for an all-new season of Summer Field Biology at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland, Minnesota! Join us as we head north for another great summer at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center! The 34th year of Summer Field Biology is just around the corner, and this year’s theme is “Fire & Ice — The Making of Minnesota’s Geological Landscape.” Join local experts in the field of geology and study our Minnesota state gemstone, the Lake Superior agate. Learn how agates formed billions of years ago and how they have traveled all across our state via glaciers, then search for an agate of your own! Our program is technology-free to maximize our time in nature and develop long-lasting friendships. Tie-dye your own Summer Field Biology T-Shirt and explore the world of Minnesota’s geology. Get prepared for activities that you will experience up north! This includes selecting Wolf Ridge activities and dorm groups. Attendance on July 9 is essential, as we use this day to prepare for what you will experience at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center.

July 15-19, Wolf Ridge

Adventure: Climb indoor rock walls, traverse tree tops rope courses, paddle canoes, test your compass skills in orienteering, and explore lakes in kayaks (high school students). Cultural Learning: Learn about the Voyageurs and Ojibwe people who are part of our Minnesota history. Nature/Animal Life: Learn about the land and creatures with which we share the Earth. Hiking: Hike to an elevation of 1,450 feet and watch the sun rise or set over Lake Superior. Conservation: Renew your commitment to sustainable living. Teamwork/Challenge: Work in mixed-age teams to compete in our annual Wolf Ridge Amazing Race. Fun: Sing songs at an outdoor bonfire with s’mores as we laugh and connect with new friends.

Our group will leave West Junior High on July 15 at 6:30 am. We will return to West Junior High on Friday, July 19 shortly after 6:00 pm.

Multiple child discount

$50 off for each additional child enrolled. You must enroll through Hopkins Community Education staff in order to receive the discount.

Camp Royal Bus Information Hop on the bus to Camp Royal! Starting on Week Two of the 2019 Camp Royal Program (June 17), participants will have the availability of an early morning and late afternoon bus with pre-determined stops. This bus service is first come, first served and spots are limited. While this transportation service is offered to you without additional cost, registration is required. Busing will be provided by standard Hopkins School District Transportation. Exact bus stop times will be released in the weeks ahead. When you register for Camp Royal online, you will find information to indicate your need for bus service and to choose your preferred bus stop. If you want to use the bus, registration is required. Note: There will be no bus service Week 1 (June 10), Week 4 (July 1), and Week 10 (Aug. 12).
