Pottery Basics for Fun & Function

Clay Sculpture I

Grades 1-6 Kris Holtmeyer Explore how to manipulate a slab of clay using techniques such as wedging, scoring, and meshing. Use plastic tools to sculpt and mold a threedimensional subject of your choice. Clay sculptures will need to air-dry for approximately one week before painting and sealing applications are done at home. Observational Drawing with Young Rembrandts

Grades 6-9 Young Rembrandts Drawing from observation consists of seeing an object in different perspectives. Grades 1-8 Center for Academic Excellence Learn the physical, political, economic, and cultural geography of the world! Geography bees are popular with elementary and middle school students. The training in this camp sparks interest and helps prepare for competitions. Explore important rules, top strategies, essential insider tricks, proven study techniques, and how to avoid common pitfalls. Hopkins Youth Spelling Bee

Grades 2-4 & 5-6 Center for Academic Excellence Join us for the Hopkins Youth Spelling Bee! Compete against kids from Wayzata, Lakeville, and Eastern Carver County in a daylong event. There will be two levels this day (grades 2-4 and 5-6). The morning will consist of written and oral exams, then lunch will be served, with the day culminating in the final oral round in the afternoon. Grades 1-8 Center for Academic Excellence Spell checkers are wonderful tools, but can they take away the importance of knowing how to spell? Learn how to be a great speller in this fun camp! Improve your spelling, increase vocabulary, and develop correct English usage. Increase your understanding of new words through engaging exercises. Learn skills such as self discipline, concentration, memorization techniques, and more. This preparation helps students to excel in vocabulary and improve their standardized test scores, including MAP, MCA, PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Students can participate in the Hopkins Youth Spelling Bee and demonstrate their knowledge! Red Cross Babysitting

Ages 11-16 Sari Johnson Whether you are experienced or just beginning to care for children, this is the class for you! Learn basic child development, first aid, unique care for babies, how to deal with emergencies, and more. You will receive a Red Cross certification, but you must be 11 years old by the end of this class and attend the entire course. Receive a Red Cross Babysitting book and a CD that are yours to keep. Non-School Day Fun! Youth Horse Camp Ages 6-12 Andrea Keacher Learn how to groom, tack-up, lead, and work with horses. Enjoy horse crafts and other activities such as horseshoe painting, braiding a horse’s mane, horse tag, and helping feed horses. Proper attire includes sneakers or boots (closed toe and heel), long pants, and layers for weather. Bring nut-free snacks, lunch, and a water bottle. ASTM/SEI certified helmets provided. Signed waivers are required. Bus will pick up students at 8:00 a.m. outside Door B at Eisenhower Community Center to go to the Boulder Pointe Stables in Anoka. Grades 1-6 Jane Kleinman The Hopkins Alpine Spring Race Camp will provide alpine racing skill development in a fun and safe environment for Hopkins elementary students. Focus is on strong alpine ski technique and slalom and giant slalom ski racing tactics. This camp is for Hopkins Elementary students, grades 1-6, who have alpine (downhill) skiing experience that ranges from being able to successfully ski down the North hill at Hyland Hills and ride the chairlift by themselves, to those students who are already ski racing. XinXing Enrichment Chinese immersion opportunities XinXing enrichment classes are taught in Mandarin Chinese. Enhance and develop Chinese speaking skills in standard Mandarin including Chinese poem recitation, program announcement, and master of ceremony (emcee). This class will provide opportunities for students to speak in public settings and serve as an emcee for the Chinese New Year Celebration. Family Swim Saturdays Join us for a season of fun family swimming at Eisenhower Community Center pool. Lifeguards are on duty during all family swim hours. (This is not a swim lesson.) Swimmers must furnish their own suits and towels. All youth swimmers must be accompanied by an adult 18 years old or older who is dressed to swim. Swimmers may use approved masks/ goggles, fins, and snorkels. Please register and pay in the Eisenhower Community Center reception area before heading to the pool.

Hopkins Youth Spelling Bee Join us for the Hopkins Youth Spelling Bee! Compete against kids from Wayzata, Lakeville, and Eastern Carver County in a daylong event. There will be two levels this day (grades 2-4 and 5-6). The morning will consist of written and oral exams, then lunch will be served, with the day culminating in the final oral round in the afternoon. Trophies will be awarded to the top three winners from each level.
