Rev. Rob Moore and Director of Lay Ministry, Marianna Seaton

What do a commitment to a daily spiritual practice, working monthly with a spiritual director, studying and reflecting upon Unitarian Universalist theology and history, participation in a small group of seekers, and putting our faith into action, have in common? These are the five “spokes of the wheel of a unique spiritual deepening program called Wellspring. Horizon is in its fifth year of offering this program to Unitarian Universalists seeking deeper meaning in their chosen faith. Rev. Rob Moore and Director of Lay Ministry, Marianna Seaton will share their personal experience with the program, and shine a light on the benefits of the Wellspring process. The service will be followed by an information session for people interested in participating in this unique program beginning this September.

HORIZON’S TRANSITION TEAM by JuLane julane@judithlane.com

The Next Steps Horizon is about to meet our Interim Minister, Reverend Helen Carroll, and to welcome her with great expectancy and with as many different ideas about how our transition will progress as there are members and friends of our religious community. Reverend Carroll wants to hear them all, from your experience of Horizon’s history, your awareness of our strengths and weaknesses as you see them right now, to your dreams for our future.

The Board of Trustees has appointed the Transition Team members. They are Beth Bargar, JuLane, MC Meador, Madira McKee, Acie Nobles, and Patsy Roe, all long-time Horizon members who have played many different leadership roles. Working with Reverend Carroll, they will be taking the lead in projects and activities designed to help carry out interim tasks. Our first task is to make it possible for each of you to have a

time to speak with Rev. Carroll and tell her your story, your history and your hopes for Horizon. Early in August we will begin holding Cottage Conversations hosted in homes of members of the different Neighborhood Groups, with some groups held here at the church. Beginning before August, we will recruit hosts for small groups of 8 to 12 people. Then we will call each of you to arrange your time to take part in

Page 4

a Conversation. The gatherings are planned to last around 90 minutes. We want to gather members and friends of Horizon who may not have shared their stories with each other yet so don’t be surprised when close friends and spouses or partners are assigned to different groups. Your voice, your opinion, your dream is important! Rev. Carroll will be there, leading each of these Conversations where we will share our history and dreams with her and with each other. From these will arise the realizations that will show us where we have work to do, and the understanding of where we want go from here. So be expecting a call from a Transition Team member sometime in the next two to six weeks to set up your time to talk with Rev. Carroll.
