Weekly Service: Sundays 10:30 AM

Sunday Service: February 14, 2016

The Art of Forgiveness Rev. Helen Carroll Forgiveness gets a lot of press in religion and spirituality circles. World traditions admonish us to forgive one another, to forgive ourselves. And the carrot to entice even the unbeliever is an assurance that as we forgive, we receive a more peaceful, grounded existence. An existence with minimal upset and maximum awareness where one more block to becoming who we want to be is removed. With such weighty reward, why is forgiveness so elusive?

Your Board of Trustees is charged to represent the interests of Horizon's Congregation and to regularly monitor progress to fulfill the mission of this vibrant church. The Board recognizes that, in order to do these things effectively, we must have open communication with all of our members so we are informed about both concerns and the things you most appreciate. The Board meets in the church library every third Wednesday, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and normally ending between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Any interested member of Horizon (or the community at large) is welcome to attend. Each meeting includes a specific opportunity for public comments (which we ask be limited to three minutes in length). You are encouraged to join us at our monthly meetings and/or to talk with us individually to share your thoughts and interests.

Horizon’s February 21 Share the Plate

The North TX Region American Red Cross helps people impacted by disasters who need help to overcome tragedy. Contributions will bring much needed support to the community in times of crises. Just $17.50 can provide a hot meal, warm blanket and comfort kit containing necessities to a neighbor in need in North Texas. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the American Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. Last year, local giving to the American Red Cross North Texas Region enabled them to respond to over 2,000 emergencies and assist over 2,600 families.

Southwest UU Spring Conference April 8-10, 2016 Wildflower Church, 1314 E. Oltorf St, Austin, Texas 78704

Differences that Make a Difference: Multicultural Justice Making Inside and Out In today’s world, conversations about difference are both difficult and necessary. Unitarian Universalists, with our theology of and commitment to pluralism, are called to lead the way in navigating a respectful discourse around emotional topics such as diversity in culture, ethnicity, and theology in a world that is increasingly divided. At this year’s Spring Conference, we will be exploring the differences in our congregations and how they make a difference in the way we chose to be in the world.

STEWARDSHIP NEWS

Clean-up Day Clean-up Day was a huge success, allowing us to cross off a number of items from our to-do list, as Horizon volunteers came out on a beautiful Saturday morning to lend a hand. Over 35 volunteers washed windows, floors, walls and counters. Walls were spackled and painted. Spots in the carpet were removed, the Sanctuary chairs were dusted and the upholstery cleaned. The portable doors were sanded and primed and the ramp to the portable was pressure-washed.

STEWARDSHIP NEWS Will you volunteer? Recognizing that the work of the church requires many hands, Horizon has developed an Admin Support Team. A team of volunteers, working under the direction of the Office Administrator, who makes things happen. From minor maintenance and clerical tasks to artistic support and special projects, this is the team that takes care of the many day-to-day details necessary for Horizon to prosper. As Helen Keller wrote, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” The Admin Support Team offers 

General clerical support, such as filing, inventorying supplies, answering phones, making copies and updating the data base.

Minor facility maintenance, such as changing batteries and filters and making minor repairs requiring no special skills or equipment

Grounds support, such as watering, weeding or trimming trees, plants and shrubs, adding mulch

Artistic support, such as taking photographs and helping with posters or flyers

Special projects, such as spring cleaning

Once a week?  Once a month? Contact Office Administrator Rebecca Stanczak 972-492-4940 administrator@horizonuu.org Your participation makes a difference. 
