THANK YOU! 2024 HORIZON OPEN HOUSE March 5-7, Kaohsiung, Taiwan LATEST EVENT

Horizon would like to extend our sincere appreciation to each owner and guest who attended our 2024 Open House. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

STRENGTH UNDER CONTROL

On January 13th, 2024, Taiwan held a democratic election and its people demonstrated their continued support of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by electing current Vice President, Lai Ching-te, as the new president, to be inaugurated on May 20. In recent years, international conflicts such as the U.S.-China trade war, the Russia-Ukraine war and the escalation of the Israel-Palestine conflict have turned the spotlight on Taiwan. A country that was once on the verge of being forgotten quickly became a region of concern—even being considered one of the most tense regions in the world.

China claims that Taiwan is a part of China. Such claims inevitably create tension among international trading partners, particularly when similar situations appear to be unfolding in other regions. Some customers who want to purchase yachts from Taiwan are concerned about whether their deposits can be adequately protected when they hear reports commenting on the ongoing tension between Taiwan and China.

The Taiwanese people have been living amid verbal attacks and threats from China for over 70 years, but we continue to live our lives at the same pace, with economic activities continuing to flourish. The fact is that the vast majority of Taiwanese people believe that the probability of a conflict occurring in the Taiwan Strait is very low. It is also unrealistic to engage in a large-scale military operation that would require crossing over 200 nautical miles, and China would pay an unbearable price. International allies would not sit idly by, and Taiwan also has a certain level of counterattack capability.

Regardless of the reality of the situation, foreign buyers’ concerns can be exacerbated by exaggerated media reports. We feel that it is important to communicate and explain fully to customers that they can safely do business with Taiwan. For customers who still have doubts, we respect their concerns and are willing to propose payment terms or low-interest loan plans that make them feel at ease based on different scenarios, ensuring that their investments are fully protected and there will be no financial losses.

The Horizon Group is a very financially sound company that has been in operation for 37 years. It has nearly 900 official employees and land and factory equipment worth over 400 million US dollars. It stably produces 20 to 25 large yachts every year. Not only do we accept customized orders, but we also produce a certain number of inventory yachts for our global offices to reduce customer waiting time and alleviate their concerns about deposit risks. We can proudly tell all of our business partners and customers that Horizon Yachts has the resources and a robust operating model to overcome a variety of challenges and continue moving forward.

15 Awards and Counting

Once again Horizon Yachts has been lauded for its innovation and achievements in yacht building. This year, it was the highly customized RP125 yacht that took home the company's 15th Taiwan Excellence Award, which was presented during an annual gala ceremony at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center on December 6, 2023. Horizon is the only yacht builder to receive a Taiwan Excellence Award this year, which further underscores the continuous innovation displayed by the Kaohsiung-based shipyard.

Established by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs in 1993, the Taiwan Excellence Awards recognize innovation and excellence across a variety of industries. Held annually, the awards are presented to nominees who surpass a rigorous selection process that analyzes four major areas including R&D, Design, Quality and Marketing. The Taiwan Excellence symbol has become a standard for Taiwanese products with innovative values that are renown on the international market.

12 new wave VOLUME 63 // 2024
The customized Horizon RP125 wins 2024 Taiwan Excellence Award. THIS PAGE Horizon is the only yacht builder to receive a 2024 Taiwan Excellence award; this year’s honor goes to Vin Xan , an RP125 built for a repeat owner.

Designed and built for a repeat owner, the Horizon RP125 combines preferred elements from the popular RP (Raised Pilothouse) and FD (Fast Displacement) Series of yachts. Innovation was the genesis of this particular yacht, which is based on the Horizon RP platform but built with an FD Series High Performance Piercing Bow for enhanced performance. At 125 feet in length, the RP125 is the largest Horizon yacht sold in Australia.

The first notable layout variation of the RP125 is the absence of a raised pilothouse, which was eliminated from the design to allow for a spacious salon and an exceptional galley area with high ceilings and large windows on the main deck. The wheelhouse is instead situated on the bridge deck along with Captain’s quarters and a dayhead with a shower just forward of an enclosed skylounge and bridge deck dining area aft.

Christened Vin Xan, the RP125 is the second Horizon build for the owner, who previously owned an RP100. The five-stateroom yacht boasts generous interior space, which is outfitted in a sophisticated interior style highlighted by rich South American walnut and ebony accents. Similar to the FD Series layout, the RP125 sees the master stateroom positioned forward on the main deck with a sunken ensuite.

Other innovative features are found throughout the RP125. The interior staircase features a leather-wrapped handrail that can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. Spacious crew quarters and a large crew mess with ample soundproofing are situated aft of the engine room, while a large beach garage with laundry has been designed with custom storage for the owner’s favorite waterborne activities such as fishing and diving.

The main tenet of the Taiwan Excellence program is the recognition of innovative products that are rooted in the quest for solutions to improve life and lifestyle. With the RP125, Horizon demonstrates innovation that improves onboard comfort not only with layout design but through overall performance.

Defined by a well-planned layout, the new FD75 is unrivaled in her class.

A new Horizon FD75 is now available on the American market.

The stunning four-stateroom yacht made an appearance at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where she was lauded for her compact design, well-planned layout and contemporary European-inspired interior style.

Attendees of the show were welcomed aboard via the swim platform of the yacht, where the transom door provides access to her crew quarters for two, with storage and access to the engine room housing the yacht’s twin CAT C18 ACERT engines of 1,136hp each. An additional stairway to the crew quarters is positioned on the port side of the aft deck for ease of access while underway. The aft deck itself is outfitted with an inviting L-shaped seating area and a Hi/Lo table with coffee-to-dining functionality.

A Horizon Rendezvous Reunion in the Land Down Under

The 2023 Horizon Yacht Australia Owners’ Rendezvous brought 10 Horizon yachts and 100 guests to Airlie Beach, in the stunning Whitsundays, for a fifth year of laughter, libations and, of course, the Long Table Lunch.

Nestled in the heart of the Whitsundays, Airlie Beach is a paradise of white sand and turquoise waters, perfect for celebrating all things yachting—which is why this stunning location has been the home of the Horizon Yacht Australia (HYAUS) Owners’ Rendezvous for the past five years and counting. For 2023, the highly anticipated Owners’ Rendezvous gathered at the Coral Sea Marina and Resort, where more than 100 guests and 10 Horizon yachts spent three fun-filled days socializing, sharing their diverse yachting experiences, and making countless memories with family and friends.

Day One commenced with a casual poolside soiree, where those who arrived by sea could stretch their land legs and those who arrived by plane—from as far away as Perth, Adelaide and New Zealand—could unwind and relish the fragrant tropical air. The Horizon Yacht Australia team— comprised of HYAUS Director Mark Western, Erica Rae, Tony Jones, Jessica Pyke-Nott, Brad Flexman and Liam Phibbs—welcomed owners and their families and friends with a presentation of the Rendezvous kit: a hibiscus-print duffel bursting with useful gear including sunscreen, a wine cooler, a towel, a buoyant keyring, and a vivid blue 2023 Horizon Owners’ Rendezvous t-shirt. Against the sublime backdrop of swaying palms, sparkling waters and islands beckoning in the distance, guests got down to the serious business of “meet and mingle” with new and old friends.

After settling into the impeccably renovated Coral Sea Resort, some guests chose to dine at the poolside restaurant while, spoilt for choice, others ventured to the restaurants along the marina or into the village a short walk away for some evening fun.

THESE PHOTOS Owners and guests mingled with new and old friends against the backdrop of a stunning island vista.

Day Two dawned in customary Whitsunday style—sun peering through atmospheric clouds and then clearing to intense azure—and the next social occasion on the agenda was the traditional Melbourne Cup White Lunch. Held alfresco on the beach, the lunch was the ideal opportunity for owners and guests to learn more about each other and savor the exceptional cuisine the region’s famous for; not to mention to place a few bets on the epic “race that stops the nation,” complete with emcee Steve “Hawko” Hawkins from Ladbrokes offering tips and calling out the action. Once the race was run and won, the Horizon team presented guests with lucky door prizes and awards for Best Dressed. Gifts were generously donated by sponsors The Boat Works, Benson & Brown, AusCoast Yacht Management and Highfield Boats, and also included a range of Horizon apparel.

Day Three spurred excitement for the pinnacle Rendezvous event: the entire fleet traveled in formation from Coral Sea Marina to iconic Whitehaven Beach, famous for its powder-fine silica sand lapped by iridescent turquoise water. The fleet comprised the brand new Horizon RP100, the FD103 Askari, the E98 Sovereign Lady, the E94 Black Legion, the E84 Le Bateau, the E75 Wine Down, the E75 Laguna, the V72 Placidity and the PC52 Aurora. The early start for the nine Horizon yachts was rewarded with breakfast, a reviving coffee (or two), and more time to get to know each other and discuss boating aspirations.

The impressive-looking fleet was captured from above with drones and from a helicopter by the team from Ocean Creative House, who gave guests gathered on the foredecks a thrill with several close passes. Before anchoring in the picturesque Whitehaven lagoon, Mark Western organized owners or their captains into a line and coordinated the most thrilling race of the week: nine Horizon yachts vying for the title of the 2023 Rendezvous Race Champion. These majestic vessels steaming to an indeterminate finish line was a sight to behold from the beach, and with Highfield RIB tenders following alongside at 40 knots, it was even more stirring for the owners and guests of the nine-strong yacht armada.

THESE PHOTOS Helicopters and drones captured incredible footage of the Rendezvous fleet traveling in formation to Whitehaven Beach.

Despite some contention, the contest ended in a victory to Horizon E84 Le Bateau, owned by Cameron and Larna from Ballarat, Victoria, who were extremely pleased to emerge with this year’s honor.

“There was a formal dispute lodged by Askari, but we know we won!” owner Cameron joked. “It’s a lot of fun, great people and they’ve been so helpful. It’s our first boat and we had a lot to learn.”

Cameron, Larna and their two children, as well as Cameron’s brother and father, all use Le Bateau to explore Port Phillip Bay and around Queenscliff.

“My brother and I are six-foot-six so we had to have a boat with heaps of headroom,” says Cameron. “None of the other brands matched Horizon. And the enclosed flybridge is important for us, because of the unpredictable weather in Melbourne.”

From Airlie, Cameron and Larna cruised Le Bateau to the Gold Coast for berthing and servicing at the Horizon headquarters at Sanctuary Cove, after which they spent New Year’s Eve on Sydney Harbour before heading back to their home port.

Once transported nimbly to shore by the Highfield RIBs— a Sport 660 and Sport 700 provided by Northside Marine in Brisbane—the 100 guests were greeted by the expert team from Fish D’vine, an Airlie Beach institution popular with visiting yachts for local delicacies, for Horizon’s famous Long Table Lunch. After a lavish spread of seafood, cold cuts and salads of all sorts to rival a royal feast, guests spent the rest of the afternoon swimming in the serene and salty waters, trying their skills on the Red Shark aquatic bikes and wishing time would stand still.

For some owners this was their fifth Horizon Australia Rendezvous, “an unmissable event on the calendar,” as declared by Maurice, owner of the Horizon E84 Kokomo based in Auckland.

"The Horizon team are really excellent; they can't do enough to help, whatever is needed. Getting together like this, sharing our love of boating, is the icing on the cake. It’s marvelous.”

Hailing from Mandurah, in Western Australia, Tanya and Phil have enjoyed many years of cruising adventures aboard their Horizon V72 Placidity. They’ve cruised from the Kimberley Coast over the top and along the east coast, basing themselves at Mackay, Queensland for a season. They love the laid-back hospitality and warm welcome from the Horizon Australia team as well as meeting owners from all over the country and New Zealand.

Rebecca and Scott, from the Sovereign Islands in Queensland and owners of the Horizon E94 Black Legion, said they were thrilled to be a part of the 2023 Owners’ Rendezvous. “It is like a family reunion,” said Rebecca. “We enjoy seeing other Horizon owners who share common interests and a love of boating.”

They chose Black Legion, which Scott described as “a very social boat” for its layout, performance and seaworthiness. “It looks tough,” he said. “And it’s a game boat and a white boat, all in one. We can reach 26 knots and host 15 people on board, the galley is very social, and the layout separates the crew for privacy. On the day we bought it, we went out through the seaway under the worst conditions and it handled beautifully.”

Bruce and partner Kerry arrived from the Sunshine Coast aboard the Horizon V68 Larica—an amalgam of his granddaughters’ names. Aboard Larica, Bruce and his family and friends have explored the Whitsundays, Noosa and Tin Can Bay.

“I have four daughters, a son and grandchildren,” said Bruce. “I’ve had several boats, and when I was looking for a motoryacht with more volume, lots of room to spread out and dedicated crew accommodation, Horizon was the best choice for our next stage of boating.”

Victorian couple Rod and Shelley own the Horizon E75 Wine Down based at Port of Airlie. Their Rendezvous highlights included the Melbourne Cup White Lunch on the expertly decorated beachfront tables. “Excellent views, fantastic company, a lot of fun and laughter—what more could you want?” said Rod.

From Brisbane, Debbie and daughter Sam, owners of the Horizon V74 SAMM, joined the group this year without their boat but eager to reconnect with fellow owners.

“It’s a lot of fun and it is like an extended family,” said Debbie. “Everybody has inspiring stories and we all get along.”

Representing event sponsor Mulpha and Sanctuary Cove where he is the General Manager of the Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, Steve Sammes traveled to Airlie Beach with his wife Helen.

“Horizon is the longest standing tenant at Sanctuary Cove, and we’re proud to sponsor their Owners’ Rendezvous,” he said. “As well as enjoying the water, the fun events, good food and great company, it’s important to listen to our customers and take on board their observations and requests. Meeting Horizon owners in a relaxed, social setting is a great way of finding out what we can do to enhance their experience.”

Owners of the awarding-winning Horizon FD103 Askari which features a custom-designed, full-beam flybridge, a massive swim platform and dog-friendly designs—Malcolm and Peter praised Mark and his team for the “wonderful and well organized” event.

“They managed the logistics really well, especially the Whitehaven lunch, with tenders, jet-skis and such fabulous food,” said Malcolm.

Askari had at least ten guests on board, making for a highly social atmosphere, and probably some extra ballast when it came to competing in the Horizon race. Said Malcolm of the contentious victor’s claims, “The only reason Le Bateau won was because they kept going after the rest of the fleet stopped and turned around! Anyhow, we’re happy for them to take the lid this year. It’s all a bit of fun.”

Chris and Leanne, who have owned the Horizon E73 Orea for two years and are now moving up to a Horizon FD90, first came to the Whitsundays from Melbourne 12 years ago. They got hooked on the fishing and laidback lifestyle and bought their first Horizon to enjoy with family, friends and their staff.

“The biggest highlight for us is meeting new people, sharing experiences and listening to their stories,” said Chris.

Drew and Jenny, formerly owners of a Horizon V74, divide their time between homes in Adelaide, Sanctuary Cove and the Hamilton Islands and have a motoryacht suited to their boating lifestyle at each locale. “We wouldn’t miss the Horizon Rendezvous,” said Jenny. “Always fun, friendly, and a great experience. We have to go home afterwards for a rest!”

Graham and Sharon from the Sunshine Coast are owners of a 65-foot multihull and are keen to eventually move into the Horizon brand. They were besotted with the dazzling scenery and camaraderie of the Long Table Lunch at Whitehaven Beach. Graham couldn’t get over the delectable feast and the breathtaking backdrop and described the experience (topped off with an impromptu boogie and snacks aboard the Horizon RP100) as, “the best day of my life, bar none!” A mighty big claim, but one he was sticking to.

Owner of Horizon E98 Sovereign Lady, Greg Alder agreed and commented, “This year’s Rendezvous was seamlessly run and extremely enjoyable. As well as seeing people I’ve known for many years, it was awesome to meet new and long-time Horizon owners. Three days was just the right amount of time to have some fun, get out on the water and make some great contacts.”

Greg Alder is Managing Director at Alder Developments and is building the master-planned residential community Airlie Summit—positioned above Airlie with spectacular views and surrounded by the Conway National Park—where in March 2024 the first architecturally-designed homes will be built.

“Seven lots of 16 in the first stage have already sold,” said Greg. “It’s a rare opportunity to build in this sought-after section of Airlie and make the Whitsundays your playground.”

Greg and his team graciously hosted the farewell breakfast at the site of his company’s planned residential community Airlie Summit, and allowed the Rendezvous group one last gathering in which to reminisce on the three fantastic days spent together. From there, owners and guests departed at their leisure, either returning home for well-deserved rest and relaxation or cruising onward for more exciting adventures in the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier reef.

Justin Lye, Queensland State Manager for Club Marine, was excited to join such a passionate community of boat owners and see them sharing their knowledge and experiences.

“Meeting customers from all over Australia is fantastic,” he commented. “For Club Marine, partnerships like these are all about advocacy, safety and confidence on the water. Making a long passage like that can be daunting, and migrations such as these are really valuable for raising owners’ confidence and skills, which in turn, raises their enjoyment of boating. The Horizon team really went out of their way to make everyone feel like part of the family. It was fun, friendly and a great time. It’s a real credit to them.”

THESE PHOTOS Former Horizon V74 owners Drew and Jenny (left) have the rendezvous on their can’t-miss list; the Long Table Lunch (below) is a highlight for many owners.

After wrapping up the 2023 Horizon Owners’ Rendezvous, HYAUS Director Mark Western said he was ecstatic with the effusive feedback from owners and guests. “The very next day people emailed or called to say ‘top event,’ which is very pleasing. A lot of work goes into organizing and executing our event, and it’s heartening for the entire team to hear the owners’ appreciation. In addition, many owners make great efforts to bring their boats and invite friends and family, and that’s what makes the event such a success. It’s a magic combination.”

Not missing a beat, the HYAUS team are now back at their Sanctuary Cove headquarters and already working on the 2024 Horizon Open House in March as well as planning the 2024 Owners’ Rendezvous, which they promise will have “a Western twist”—a not-so-cryptic reference to the mystery destination and a play on Mark’s surname.

“You’ll have to wait and see, but we can tell you the new destination will be as thrilling and mesmerizing as the Whitsundays and just as much fun,” hinted Mark.

Horizon Yacht Australia would like to extend a sincere thank you to our dedicated staff and event sponsors for another wonderful event; and to the Horizon yacht owners for their loyalty and enthusiasm—you are what makes the Horizon family so special.

EXPERIENCE
53 horizon life DEFINE YOUR HORIZON

Owner-operation can be an exhausting job. While it may have been the fatigue that led lifetime boater Mario Benedetti to his “dream come true” Horizon E88, in reality, it was simply the next logical step.

Mario grew up in Venezuela, where his family had been in the car dealership business since the 1920s. His father was a rep for Chris-Craft in the 1940s, so boating was another prominent aspect of his childhood. “I got my first boat when I was seven years old—[it was] aluminum with a 4hp Evinrude outboard,” he says.

There were several boats between that aluminum runabout and the Horizon E88, of course, including a Luhrs 37 sport fishing convertible he owned when he and his family moved to the U.S. in 2009 to establish their Toyota dealership operations. In 2012, Mario purchased the molds and everything related to the bankrupt Luhrs brand with the intent of reviving production in St. Augustine, Florida. The dream of building his first boat was cut short when an Italian corporation made him a purchase offer he couldn’t refuse.

Life continued for Mario and his family with regular extended trips to The Bahamas, hosting family and friends aboard a Hatteras 54 Convertible they ran themselves. “We’ve been doing Bahamas trips for the past twelve years,” he says, and while they loved the trips, the work involved was extensive. “Even when we would go out for a weekend on Elliott Key in Miami, I would be at the boat early in the morning getting everything ready for our guests to arrive, then when we got back in the evening I would

stay late to clean; I couldn’t enjoy the whole day. At night my wife would say, ‘Mario, you look so tired.’ Last year I told her, ‘I’m the captain, the mate, I have the full responsibility of the boat. I want to enjoy our boat, but in a different way.’”

So, Mario and his wife began looking at larger boats in the 75- to 80-foot size range, focusing on the Hatteras and Viking brands before a friend suggested Horizon Yachts. “At first I thought Horizon only built the FD Series yachts,” he says, until one day, while browsing the internet, Mario came across “this amazing, beautiful boat,” a Horizon E88. He figured he would take a look and drove to Stuart, Florida to see her in person. “It was an instant click,” says Mario. “Her lines were beautiful, she was a very sexy boat. I thought, ‘this is the one.’”

The final decision came down to the Horizon E88 and a Viking 75, which Mario, his wife and their daughter went to visit in West Palm Beach. “They didn’t like the Viking’s decor, and I knew the answer already,” laughs Mario. “We drove up to Stuart and when my wife and daughter saw the E88, their expressions said it all. There was no question about it. While it was a little bigger than we had planned, it was within our budget. We went to The Bahamas, came back and closed on the boat.”

Mario’s Horizon E88 was christened Island Soul, the name of the family’s previous yacht and the moniker that represents the essence of their cumulative experiences on the water.

“The name Island Soul is a reflection of us and what all of our boats have meant to us in precious and long-lasting memories of special times with friends and family.”

“IT’S ABOUT FAMILY, IT’S ABOUT LOVE. THE BOAT IS FAMILY.”
54 horizon life VOLUME 63 // 2024

NEW CREW, NEW YOU

The transition to having crew has been an interesting segue for the experienced owner as well as for his wife, who generally assumed the stewardess responsibilities. “This is my first time having crew, and my friends make fun of me,” laughs Mario. “I took the boat to Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center to have some work done and when we were being towed down the river, the joke was how long it would take before Mario takes the helm or touches a line!”

Insurance requires that the E88 be fully crewed, so Mario and his wife hired a full-time captain, first mate and stewardess. “I told the captain that he’s in charge, but we work as a team,” says Mario. “They have worked together before and are a fantastic crew. We clicked from Day One. Our crew area has two bedrooms—one with bunk beds and one double—and we have one female crew member from Venezuela. Our captain offered her the double room. He’s a true gentleman.”

As for his onboard responsibilities now? “I help with the lines. I usually take the tender and the captain takes the big boat. Since I’ve been boating all my life I understand that sometimes things happen on a boat, so if anything goes south we put our heads together and solve the problem. I’m like a back-up captain!”

55 horizon life DEFINE YOUR HORIZON

FINDING ONE’S SOUL IN THE ISLANDS

Mario and his family didn’t waste a moment and set off for a cruising adventure as soon as the boat was delivered. Spending time in the islands is what they love most. “Our normal route is Miami to Nassau, where we will spend three days at Atlantis as a pit stop to make sure everything is good and get any parts or supplies necessary. Then we cruise to Highbourne Cay Marina where we spend about 15 days—we’ve been going there for over ten years and have our reservations and secured dockage. We spend another 10- to-14 days on Cambridge Cay, exploring Sampson Cay and Staniel Cay, then head to Georgetown for another four or five days. From there, we go to Calabash Bay on Long Island for about three days, back to Georgetown, Cambridge, Highbourne and Albany Marina for about a week, then Chub Cay and return to Miami.” Through all of this, Mario and his wife are joined by visiting friends and their grown children, who work with Mario in his business.

“At first I thought the speed would affect me,” says Mario, whose previous boat could achieve 33 knots, “but my father had a Bertram 58 and I recall that 20 knots is a good speed. As a passenger it becomes like a cruise ship experience. I can visit different areas of the boat and enjoy them now.”

Mario says he doesn’t have a favorite spot onboard, because every area has its own “magic.” “The aft deck is special; sitting on the sunpads on the bow is amazing. The flybridge is magic. When the tender is deployed we put a dining table up there, which gives us four separate dining areas onboard—like the cruise ships we used to make fun of!” he says. “The salon, the master, the skylounge—they are warm and beautiful. My wife and my sister enjoy doing puzzles on the games table, I enjoy sitting on the sofa as much as the swim platform… every area is simply magical.”

On a recent trip, Mario was able to have a quiet moment on deck, where he contemplated the sea and gave thanks for his blessings. “My father was also in the auto business and boats were a passion that we shared. He would ask me often about this boat. He recently passed away and as I had that moment I was able to connect with him mentally and spiritually right there on the boat. I enjoyed him there with me in spirit.”

The Benedetti family loves to cruise The Bahamas, from Nassau to Long Island, and explore their favorite spots along the way.

BLESSED

Not only is Mario extremely happy with his new Horizon, he says the experience working with the Horizon teams has been equally enjoyable. “I love the way Horizon works with their customers,” he says. “This is a ten-year-old boat and even though it was refit in 2021 and I put my own money into it to bring it to my standards, Horizon has been there to guide me in the process. They respond immediately and make me feel important, like a VIP. They have everything organized; their customer support goes above and beyond. They pamper me, even though it’s a brokerage boat.”

A self-proclaimed brand ambassador, Mario says that while he likes the popular FD Series, he is a fan of Horizon’s other series and models, and has already encouraged a friend to purchase a Horizon E84. “He asked me what I thought about Horizon,” he says. “I said, ‘Sign the contract and get the boat.’ I also have an admiration for Horizon’s CEO John Lu. You can see his legacy in the quality and passion of his team and the sense of ownership.

“I really, really, really love the boat,” he says. “She is beautiful, seaworthy, the way she turns, the fit and finish, all of the details, the layout… It doesn’t get any better than that. When I walk away, I always have to turn back to look at her. We are blessed. Blessed with the boat and blessed with the crew.”

2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Four Brand New FD Series Yachts Welcomed Attendees During the Four-Day Show

Under breezy and mostly sunny skies, Horizon Yachts’ signature blue banners waved proudly, heralding in the 64th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), that took place October 25-29, 2023. Horizon Yachts had quite the lineup, with a stunning display of brand new superyachts welcoming Horizon owners, friends, industry colleagues and valued prospects. Each of the hulls making their debut at FLIBS featured unique aspects to showcase the options available for clients.

The four yachts on display comprised the new FD110 Tri-Deck, an FD100 Tri-Deck, an FD90 and an FD75. Stern-to docking highlighted the huge swim platforms, ample volume and beach club customization. Positioned along the show’s main face dock and aside to the vendor tents gave the Horizon fleet great exposure to attendees. Nestled in the corner slip, the FD100 drew much attention, showcasing its high-performance, wave-piercing bow structure, ample freeboard and impressive size compared to competitors in its class. The FD100 debuted as the first of its series to feature a Jacuzzi on the tri-deck.

58 horizon life VOLUME 63 // 2024
THESE PHOTOS Horizon’s fleet consisted of four brand-new FD series yachts, drawing first-time and seasoned visitors to the display.

The largest in the lineup was the prominently displayed FD110 Tri-Deck M/Y Crowned Eagle—the fifth launch in the series of this model and a semi-custom build for a repeat owner who stepped up from an FD92. Crowned Eagle is distinguished from earlier U.S.-based FD110 models by a five-stateroom layout with forward crew accommodations for six. With its on-deck master, custom projector screen in the skylounge, spacious beach club and circular dining set up on the aft deck, Crowned Eagle showcased some of the various options available and sparked interest in current and potential Horizon owners.

Collaboration with prestigious yacht designers such as J.C. Espinosa
and
paves the way for innovative new models.

During the show, the Horizon Yacht USA team and several representatives from the shipyard in Taiwan hosted a delivery ceremony for the FD100 Tri-Deck. Christened Christine, this is the fourth Horizon build for American yachtsman Mr. Jim Loomis. Horizon Yacht USA Director Roger Sowerbutts recognized Mr. Loomis and family with a poem and champagne toast. Showered with Horizon Yachts swag, the owners received a gift set that included a photo book of the yacht’s build process and sea trials.

Horizon Yachts also distinguishes itself from the competition with its collaborative relationships with the world’s leading yacht designers. Luxury yacht designer and FD Series visionary Cor D. Rover was on hand to meet with current and potential clients and discuss the evolving FD Series, which has sold over yachts to date. Cor D. Rover's expertise in yacht design has made the high-volume FD Series highly sought after among yacht owners yearning for the perfect combination of style, space and functionality.

Also in attendance was world-renowned designer J.C. Espinosa, who has been collaborating with Horizon Yachts for over 30 years. Espinosa has played an integral role in the design of Horizon's raised pilothouse models and other notable series.

The fun continued at the Horizon Yachts’ display with afternoon happy hours and the annual FLIBS cocktail party on Friday evening, with live music by the Jutt Huffman band. Owners and guests danced and laughed well into the late hours.

According to Informa Markets, this year’s FLIBS saw over 100,000 visitors to the five-day event. Local dignitaries echoed how important FLIBS is to the local economy and this year’s show did not disappoint.

New Builds, New Sales, and New Models Galore

A highly successful 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show brings sales, new clients, old friends, and a hint of what’s to come.

Judging by the flurry of activity at the Horizon Power Catamaran display, interest in multihulls is on the rise and many of FLIBS 100,000+ visitors made a point to see the latest powercat offerings, including a brand-new PC52, the popular PC60 and the first of the acclaimed PC68 model, which was located offsite for private viewing.

Heavy interest in PC52 and PC60 builds was the theme of 2023 FLIBS, with The Powercat Company securing a new-build contract for an on-deck master PC60. While this will be their first Horizon powercat, these U.S. owners are experienced boaters as well as previous guest attendees of the Horizon Power Catamaran rendezvous. They plan to extensively cruise The Bahamas, including their favorite locale in the Abacos, and are a welcome addition to the ever-growing Horizon family.

New builds were not the only thing on clients’ mind at the show, however. Yachts available immediately as well as new products coming down the pike also garnered much attention. During the show, The Powercat Company sold the displaying PC60 Encore to first-time Horizon Power Catamaran owners in the U.S. and hinted at some exciting design news for larger powercat models coming in 2024.

“We are thrilled with the momentum that our new PC68 model and the newly redesigned PC60 generated at FLIBS,” says The Powercat Company Founder and CEO Richard Ford. “The enthusiasm, the interest in new models, and the relationships we forged indicates this energy will continue well into 2024. As always, we are ready and eager to see what the future holds.”

The next Horizon Power Catamaran showcase is at the 2024 Palm Beach International Show, held March 21-24, where the first on-deck master PC68 will make her worldwide debut.
