Orleans Hotel
Old Sacramento, California
The Orleans, a Gold Rush-era hotel, again takes its place as an iconic building in Old Sacramento. Monighandesign painstakingly recreated the three-story street-front to match the original 1865 architecture. Contributing to the replica, Kolbe provided ten-foot tall, wood double doors that open onto the boardwalk, as well as windows with performance divided lites. Double hungs and casements were chosen for the two-story addition, which is concealed from direct view to preserve the historic façade. It reopened in 2008 as a mixed-use space, including 24 lofts, ground-fl oor retail, and a high-end restaurant.
