A BRIEF PREVIEW

• The Sacramento State football team will make its 2021 home debut when it hosts No. 21/15 UNI on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Hornet Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, the University will recognize the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as well as the COVID front line workers. • The Hornets are coming off a 19-7 season-opening victory at Dixie State on Sept. 4. Sacramento State never trailed in the game, outgained the Trailblazers, 401-213, and held the ball for 37:56 of the game. The team’s offense was balanced with 208 coming on the ground and 193 through the air. • There will be multiple ways to follow this week’s game. Hornet fans can tune in to ESPN 1320 AM to hear the radio call of Jason Ross, Steve McElroy and Danny Sullivan. SACRAMENTO STATE NOTES

• Sacramento State never trailed in a season-opening 19-7 win at Dixie State on Sept. 4. The Hornets controlled the ball with over 15 minutes more possession time than the Trailblazers, and also outgained DSU, 401-213. • Quarterbacks Asher O’Hara and Jake Dunniway split time leading the offense, and the pair combined to complete 19 of 30 passes for 193 yards without an interception. • Six Hornets caught passes in the game, led by a career high seven receptions for tight end MarshelMartin who finished with a team-high 56 yards and had two touchdown receptions. Pierre Williams had three grabs for 43 yards and running backs Elijah Dotson and BJ Perkinson also had three catches each. • Perkinson led a balanced rushing attack with eight carries for 75 yards. O’Hara finished with 65 net rushing yards while Dotson had 32 yards. • Defensively, Josiah Erickson led the Hornets with five tackles and also had a tackle-for-loss. Armon Bailey led the team with two TFLs and Marcus Hawkins had an interception in the season-opening game for the second year in a row.

OPPONENT PREVIEW: UNI

• UNI battled Iowa State to the wire before coming up just short in Ames, Iowa, 16-10. UNI scored the first points of the game on a 52-yard pass from Will McElvain to Quan Hampton. That lead help until Iowa State moved ahead, 10-7, midway through the second quarter. After a Panther field goal tied the game, 10-10, ISU claimed the lead for good with a field goal as time expired in the first half and added a field goal in the fourth quarter. • McElvain completed of 21-of-34 passes for 230 yards with a touchdown and also had two interceptions. Hampton was his favorite target, bringing in eight passes for 99 yards. Deion McShane added five receptions for 65 yards. The Panthers’ leading rusher was Dom Williams who compiled 43 yards on 12 carries. • The UNI defense limited ISU to 4.0 yards per carry and 199 passing yards. Austin Evans and Alfonzo Lambert led the team with nine total tackles. • Defensive tackle Jared Brinkman was named to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List and was a preseason all-MVFC selection. Linebacker Spencer Cuvelier and kicker Matthew Cook were also first team all-MVFC. • Mark Farley is in his 21st year as the head coach of UNI. The Panther alum has finished among the top five in the FCS seven times, has 15 top-25 finishes and has won seven Missouri Valley Football Conference titles. • This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
