Pony Confidential
ChristmasHappy C s m s st t tmp p H h
written by Lauren Allen
Grab a blanket, pour yourself a warm drink, and settle in—Pony Confidential will have you laughing, gasping, and guessing until the very end. Our unlikely hero? A snarky, world-weary pony who has, somehow, become a detective.
After a string of tough breaks, this clever yet cynical equine narrator is content to live out his days tormenting small humans and avoiding his past—until his beloved Penny, the “heart human” who abandoned him, suddenly reappears. The twist? Penny’s been accused of murder.
Driven by a mix of guilt, curiosity, and something close to affection, our prickly pony hero defies all odds, embarking on an adventure to find Penny and clear her name. Against all odds, our prickly hero sets off on a journey to find his beloved Penny and clear her name.
Penny, reflecting on her childhood, finds herself wondering how her life would have turned out if she hadn’t been forced to give up her pony. What really happened that night? Now, she must revisit her past as she awaits trial in her hometown, holding on to the faint hope that she might uncover the truth about that night. But as her memory replays those events, she’s forced to confront whether her cherished memories are quite what they seem.
Along the way, he’s reluctantly forced to open up, trusting unlikely allies and discovering a deeper friendship than he thought possible. It’s not all smooth sailing; he faces plenty of obstacles, but his determination to reach Penny drives him forward. Along the way, he’ll uncover secrets about that fateful day, leading him closer and closer to discovering the truth. But can he make it in time?
Packed with humor, charm, and a touch of magic, Pony Confidential delivers a delightful twist on the classic whodunit. This one-of-a-kind story is for anyone who’s ever loved an animal or found friends in the most unexpected places. Whether you’re a horse lover or just in need of a quirky, heartfelt read, Pony Confidential will steal your heart.

Favorite Holiday Traditions
Every Christmas my grandmother would make coffee cakes for her friends and family, my mom kept the tradition going, and now I enjoy making coffee cakes for friends and family during Christmas! It’s one of my favorite parts of December, and one of the most delicious.
—CARLY ANTHONY, SHOW JUMPER
When I was about 9, I got my first saddle, and it was a huge deal— honestly, I remember it even more vividly than getting my first horse! Every year, Santa would come early on the 23rd because we’d spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at my grandparents’ (though really, my mom just couldn’t hold off on surprises!). We’d always hear rustling and noises and have to hunt down where Santa had hidden our gifts. That year, the sounds led me outside, where I found my saddle draped over our little bouncing horse toy. I was so thrilled I could’ve cried!
—TAYLOR HALL, TRIED EQUESTRIAN
Every Christmas, I travel back home to Chile, where my mom transforms the entire house and garden into a festive, beautifully decorated space for a summery holiday celebration! We always add a bit of humor by wearing funny Christmas-themed hats for dinner and while opening presents. It’s a family tradition that makes the day even more special.
—GABY REUTTER , SHOW JUMPER
I am German, so German holiday traditions are especially dear to my heart. The first one is Saint Nicholas Day. I believe it’s on December 6, but need to double check that. In the morning when you wake up, and when you’re a kid, St. Nicholas has filled your shoes with treats and gifts. It’s the sweetest thing ever.
My other favorite tradition, is Advent Sunday – in Germany, you sit down on every Sunday with your family and friends to eat cookies drink tea, and connect slowly while lighting just one candle per week, that way they burn down a different heights throughout the month. It’s a wonderful way to slowly enjoy the ramp up to Christmas.
—BETTINA NORTON, ARTIST
We’ve made it a tradition to get an ornament of something she really likes or has been into over the past year. She’s only 1, so we’re looking forward to getting her second one this year! Another fun activity I do with my daughter is making holiday cards. We create one to give to her grandparents.
—MELEVAI LAUTI, ARIAT
Being from an Italian Family, Christmas Eve is where we do the Feast of the Seven Fishes. We host a big family dinner party that includes dishes made from seven different fish. It's so delicious!

Equestrian Inspired Decorations
Turn those old stirrups and bits into chic holiday equestrian decor. With a few basic supplies, you can create a fun and stylish accent for your home.
SUPPLIES:
• Old stirrup irons
• Stirrup Leathers (or thick ribbon)
• Old bit
• Greenery of your choice
• Holiday bow or ribbon
• Berries, pine cones or other
decorative elements
• Floral wire
• Scissors
• Wire cutters
• Tacky glue
These festive pieces are a fun way to re-use old bits of tack you probably already have but aren't using. If you don't have these items, antique shops are great places to find unique alternatives.
STEPS FOR WREATH:
1. Gather your supplies and lay them all out onto the table. Be sure to clean your old bits, stirrup irons and leathers before crafting.
2. Lay your stirrups flat. Think about where your decor will go and choose the greenery and other elements accordingly.
3. For the stirrup irons, gather your greenery into a bunch and fan out the pieces unevenly to create a more natural look.
4. Once you have the greenery in place, hold the branches together and use the floral wire to secure the pieces.
5. Secure the greenery onto the stirrup irons with the floral wire. Tuck the leathers down behind the greenery, leaving the stirrups to hang down below the greenery.
6. Add a bow in the middle. Then, use more greenery wire to create a loop around the greenery and stirrups for hanging.
7. Using the lid of the apothecary jar as a guide, trace and cut a circular Bristol board base for your winter scene. Place the circle at the bottom of the jar.
STEPS FOR HANGING BIT:
1. Lay the bit flat on the table and test out different sizes of greenery to go over the bottom ring. Secure the greenery with floral wire.
.2. Add berries, pine cones, a bell, or whatever accents you choose and secure them to the greenery with floral wire.
3. Hang and enjoy!
