To date, she has produced three super colts for our stud. The first, Hollingrove Salzburg (imp) by St Moritz, now owned by Primrose Court Warmblood Stud in WA, has recently gained AWHA Stallion Approval and already has some beautiful foals on the ground. Like they say, wait there’s more – there is our imported EM Lady de Luxe (Londonderry / Akzent II), there’s Santa Fe (Sandro Hit / Donnerhall) and our two imported three year old fillies, Dream of Romance (Don Romantic/Londonderry) and Amarice (Ampere/Weltmeyer) purchased at the Elite Hanoverian Foal Auction have been recently broken in, showing great potential and will be prepared for next year’s DWTS. The latest purchase- a Destano/Sandro Hit/ Rubinstein filly will remain in Germany for performance testing and competition. Embryo transfer now makes it possible for us to keep these fillies as competition horses as well important additions to our elite broodmare band for the future.

W
e are a smallish stud, breeding 6 – 10 foals per year on our 140 acre stud in the lower Hunter Valley. We almost exclusively use frozen semen from German and Dutch performance stallions as we do not stand our own stallions. We perform all the breeding work ourselves – scanning, inseminating and all post AI care of the mares. We also offer reproduction packages to other breeders and our services are increasingly in demand, especially for frozen semen work. Other services include AI for cattle, agistment of mares and foals, foaling down, weaning and handling, and foal and young horse agistment in large paddocks with safe fencing.
In the coming season we are moving into producing foals that have three and four generations of frozen semen blood which will give our foals a more international looking pedigree. Our mare lines include Sir Donnerhall, Desperados, Fidertanz, Belissimo M, De Niro, Jazz, Sunny Boy, Lord Sinclair, Alabaster, Locksley 11, Sarkozy, Metall, Flemmingh , Ruiz Soler , Royal Hit and Sirocco. We still have some Australian favourites such as Salute, Calypso Classic, Lander and Falkland.
Last season we had foals by Desperados, Belissimo M, De Niro, Furstenball and Wynton, some of whom are still for sale. This coming season we are expecting foals by Quaterback, De Niro, Status Quo, Damsey and Scolari. It is very important to us that each foal is placed in the right home and will be loved and cared for like a true friend, as well as ending up in the hands of competition riders who will nurture their talents and take them as far as possible up the ranks of competitive sport.
Our young stock are raised with good nutrition in large 30 acre paddocks, and are well handled with good manners so they are a pleasure for their new owners. At Remi Stud we breed for performance and Fishermans Friend is proving just that. A multiple Grand Prix Champion, he completed 2012 by being awarded EA (Qld) Big Tour Horse of the Year. As well as his successful dressage career, Fish has sired multiple Champion Foals as well as many Elite Mares in Europe as well as Australia. His progeny are also successful in dressage internationally as he has now also produced Grand Prix dressage horses in at least 3 countries to date - USA, Germany and Spain. What more can you ask of a stallion?!! This justifies our belief that temperament and rideability are paramount in producing successful performance horses. His latest Champion, the beautiful EMC Remi Frangelica, was the 4 y/o Young Horse Champion at DJWTS 2013, as well as being awarded Aust Champion Hanoverian in Australia in 2012. There are not many stallions that can compete so successfully, as well as complete full breeding seasons each year, so it is a testament to the wonderful temperaments of these amazing stallions that they continue to do so. A very exciting new dimension was added to our breeding program last year with the successful combination of Fishermans Friend mares bred to Lauries As. This combination produced several Top Hanoverian Foals awarded by our German Classifiers, and this year we are expecting the first of our Lauries As mares to foal to Fishermans Friend. There are exciting times ahead!! The strict selection criteria used at Remi Stud is what results in producing such exciting competition horses. We have a band of top broodmares with international bloodlines such as De Niro, Walt Disney, Locksley II, Sandro Hit, Lanthan, Rotspon, Florestan, Brentano II, Wolkenstein II, Anamour and Londonderry. There is a smorgasbord of genetics usually only found in Europe. For the discerning breeder, we also offer a Designer Foal Program to breed one of our mares to a stallion of their choice. This year we are expecting foals by such international sires as Fidertanz, Foundation, Don Frederico, Callaho’s Benicio, and Furstenball, so together with our wonderful stallions, Fishermans Friend (imp) and Lauries As (imp), we look ahead to the future with much anticipation. The Olympic Grand Prix stallion, Quando Quando may be standing in Australia, but his fame continues to grow in Germany, where his son (out of a Donnerhall mare) was the star of the 2012 Hanoverian licensing, and was sold to the famous breeder Burkhard Wahler for €200,000 where he joins such illustrious sires, De Niro and Hohenstein. t really took Australian breeders a long time to ‘get it’, the secret to successful breeding is to start with proven mares. Talk to the European breeders, and when they talk breeding they talk mares and mare lines. Sugarloaf took the big step of importing two really top mares, from Holland, Anouk (who has recently had a son licensed by the KWPN) by the world number one dressage stallion, Jazz, and from Germany, the elite mare, Rubinell, by one of the rising stars of international dressage, Romanov (the best stallion of the R line) out of a mare by the great Hanoverian dressage sire, Warkant.

Stallions are not only chosen to complement our breeding program and for superior temperaments, they are researched to insure OCD is not likely to be passed on to Woodleigh Horses. Temptation is strong to breed with some of the flashiest stallions, but if OCD is known, or difficult temperaments, we will refrain from using these horses.
With just a few foals born at Woodleigh, the results have been nothing short of outstanding. 2012 brought us our 3rd Champion Foal at the AWHA Gala with both foals winning their respective classes. 2012 also saw the debut of Raphael’s first foal come out under saddle to be awarded the highest place of all the young horses at the Royal Melbourne show. This year has followed on from previous years with the Champion Mare at the Royal Melbourne show ahead of a strong line up, Reserve Champion Foal at the AWHA Gala and great success in the eventing with Loxley winning the 2* at Camperdown with William Wordsworth by Woodleigh Don Giovanni placing second.
